Chantal Sutherland Un-Retires

Since I noted here last October when Chantal Sutherland announced that she was retiring, I thought it only proper that I now note that Ms Sutherland returned to riding Friday.  Sutherland was aboard Solidus (Final Odds 5.40) in Race 4 at Woodbine, riding the four year old gelding to a fifth place finish.

As to why she returned, Sutherland is quoted in the above linked article as saying, "I just started dreaming about it again.  All of a sudden I started waking up at 4 a.m.  I missed it too much; I love all the people at the racetrack."

I'm sure that you'll all join me in wishing Ms Sutherland the best of luck as she resumes her career in the saddle.

Peace and Love,

Chantal Sutherland Calls It a Career

In surprising (though not really shocking) news, Chantal Sutherland  announced her retirement from horse racing on Sunday.  Her last mount was for her father Hugh aboard Crushin Hard in The Bunty Lawless Stakes at Woodbine.  I'm sure that you all join with me in wishing Ms Sutherland the best of luck in all her further endeavors.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

7/7/12 BHP - Race 9 - The Hollywood Gold Cup - Results

Saturday Chantal Sutherland, to the surprise of virtually no one, rode Game On Dude (Final Odds 0.4-1) to victory in the 73rd running of the Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap.  So a little over three months after becoming the first female jockey to ride in the Dubai World Cup, and one year after becoming the first female rider to compete in this race, Ms Sutherland becomes the first female jockey to win the Hollywood Gold Cup.  Congratulations to Chantel, and best wishes for continued success.

The Equibase chart of the 2012 Hollywood Gold Cup Handicap may be viewed here, while the DRF version is available here.  DRF.com also has the video of the race up, which may be viewed here.

Peace and Love,
