Needless to say, I picked the wrong race to hit the "ALL" button; as having everybody in the second leg proved to be rather silly, as Hidden Zensation ran away and hid from the rest of the field, winning by as many as he wanted. Meanwhile, neither of my two "A" Selections in the featured race, # 7 G. G. Ryder (3.30) and # 8 A Red Tie Day (1.90*), were able to find their way into the Exacta, let alone the Winner's Circle; and for that reason, Saturday was a day for me to contribute instead of collect.
Oh well; onto the next race.

Thoroughbred racing continues at The Sonoma County Fair at Santa Rosa Saturday, with The Joseph T Grace Handicap serving as the featured race. I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at Wine Country Racing's Late Pick Four at Santa Rosa.

The talent is certainly there for Alsatian; perhaps the change of scenery will spur him to move up today.
Golden Doughnut and Harvest a Storm have taken turns finishing in front of each other of late. While I don't think either is of the same class as Grecian Fire or Alsatian, I do think that either Golden Doughnut or Harvest a Storm could get the win today with the proper pace setup (Harvest a Storm early or Golden Doughnut late).

Cheap O Charlie returns from an extended vacation after taking the Place against more expensive last time out. Cheap O Charlie appears to be working well for this; though the published workout of July 11 at Sacramento of three furlongs in over forty-two seconds is a bit of a head scratcher. Not sure if the clocker punched in the wrong number, or if Cheap O Charlie stopped midway through the work to sign some autographs before continuing on.
The "B" Selections are everyone else in the field. This one looks to be wide open to me, and if I make it this far in my play I don't want to lose out because I eliminated the wrong long shot from my big ticket.

Perhaps Urban Bourbon deserved better consideration in the opening leg; but how to justify including Urban Bourbon on the big ticket without also including # 1 Call Saul (3.90), the horse who had crossed the wire in front of him last time out? Of course, leaving that leg alone but upgrading Small Town Shuffle from a "B" Selection to an "A" Selection in the next contest would have had the same effect of turning a losing play into a winning one. But all these "what ifs" do nothing to change history, which will record that this was a day to contribute instead of collect.

8/5/17 Santa Rosa Late Pick Four - Preview
The California Fair Circuit makes its way to Sonoma County; but note that (correcting what I wrote last weekend) the Gold Rush Pick Six does not travel with it. Sonoma County / Santa Rosa has a standard two dollar Pick Six; not a twenty cent jackpot. So the $22,085 currently sitting in the pool will rest easy for the next three weeks, until racing moves onto Humbolt County / Ferndale.
So, with no jackpot to shoot for, and a Pick Six minimum wager that would destroy my budget, I'll be taking a semi-vacation this weekend and focusing my energies on The Late Pick Four. And, quite frankly, it's not a bad little Pick Four at that. Turf racing is back, as seventy-five percent of the final four races will be run on some California grass, including The Luther Burbank Handicap. So with all that let's get to it, as I take a run at Wine Country Racing's Late Pick Four at Santa Rosa.

Carville should move up with the return to turf. Call Saul and Urban Bourbon filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta last time out over the Gold Gate turf against slightly cheaper company. Undeniable U fits well here on class, but seems to settle for too many minor awards.

North Pacific took the Place against open (no conditions) $6.25k claimers last time out. Small Town Shuffle missed the Winner's Circle by just a nose last time out against $6.25k N2Y company, with Outlook taking the Show behind him.
Royal Alexei is expected to be a pace presence early, and could be tough to catch if he gets loose on the lead. Jet Seeker ships in from downstate, and may appreciate the change of scenery.

Laseen (Ire) fits well here on class, though she may need more distance to display her best. Charming Starlet appears to be in top form, and could be the one running best late.

So, with no jackpot to shoot for, and a Pick Six minimum wager that would destroy my budget, I'll be taking a semi-vacation this weekend and focusing my energies on The Late Pick Four. And, quite frankly, it's not a bad little Pick Four at that. Turf racing is back, as seventy-five percent of the final four races will be run on some California grass, including The Luther Burbank Handicap. So with all that let's get to it, as I take a run at Wine Country Racing's Late Pick Four at Santa Rosa.
RACE 7 - Clm $16k N2X - Eight and a Half furlongs Turf

Thirty Pepperonis won by daylight two starts back, the last time that he competed on the lawn. Thirty Pepperonis will also be going first off the claim for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.
Carville should move up with the return to turf. Call Saul and Urban Bourbon filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta last time out over the Gold Gate turf against slightly cheaper company. Undeniable U fits well here on class, but seems to settle for too many minor awards.

North Pacific took the Place against open (no conditions) $6.25k claimers last time out. Small Town Shuffle missed the Winner's Circle by just a nose last time out against $6.25k N2Y company, with Outlook taking the Show behind him.
Royal Alexei is expected to be a pace presence early, and could be tough to catch if he gets loose on the lead. Jet Seeker ships in from downstate, and may appreciate the change of scenery.

Laseen (Ire) fits well here on class, though she may need more distance to display her best. Charming Starlet appears to be in top form, and could be the one running best late.
