I had placed my hopes in the opening leg on the experienced entrants; but it was debut runner Night At the Opera who proved much the best. Meanwhile, the finale saw me landing on the wrong Kitten's Joy progeny, as Kitten's Royal achieved his first career turf victory in his fifth try on the grass, while "A" Selection # 5 Kittenmeister (3.00) could do no better than fourth. So for the second day this weekend my "A" Selections managed to avoid the Winner's Circle, making Sunday another day for me to contribute instead of collect.
Oh well; onto the next race.

8/27/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview
While I was playing Golden Gate Fields Saturday in preference to Ferndale, one lucky bettor took the opposite tack, taking down The Gold Rush Pick Six Jackpot with a single winning ticket that cashed to the tune of $27,426.40 for a twenty cent wager. May God bless them as they spend their winnings. As for me, I'll be attempting to do Sunday that which I had failed to accomplish on Saturday. So with all that let's get to it, as I take another run at at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

8/26/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview
Yes, Golden Gate Fields; not Ferndale. After giving the matter careful consideration I decided that, despite the jackpot carryover (of which a not insignificant amount is my money) I will not be following the Gold Rush Pick Six to Ferndale / Humbolt County Fair. Having looked at the card, I feel, for one, that I’d just rather not get involved with the quarter horse racing (which would be at least one leg of the sequence each day) at the fair; not because I think quarter horse races are lesser events, but rather because I know those are contests that I am not presently skilled at handicapping.
Another factor are the diminished fields (even by Northern California standards) that Ferndale offers; no doubt due to having to run concurrently with Golden Gate Fields. So for the above reasons, I will be focusing on the contests over at Golden Gate Fields rather than at Ferndale; at least for this weekend. So with all that let's get to it, as I take a run at at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

Perfect for Me has been working well for this event. Well Spoken Lady and A Brides Song are both trained by Cliff DeLima, who is reasonably successful when sending out debut runners.
Pasz the Pepper has posted a couple of bullet works over this surface. Evening Jazz has Indian Charlie as a grandsire; the progeny of Indian Charlie tended to do well as juveniles. Amba was sired by Tribal Rule, whose descendants tend to do well at first asking.

I had given strong consideration to making Blackjackcat a "B" Selection in The Del Mar Mile based upon his victory over # 1 Vyjack (3.60) last time out in the Wickerr. 8/20/17 Del Mar Pick Four - Preview
So it's Sunday, the day after the Pacific Classic; and it seems best to me to stay with Del Mar to close out the weekend, rather than shifting back upstate for closing day of the Santa Rosa meet. Good Lord willing, I'll be back to handicapping the fair circuit next weekend, chasing after the Jackpot Pick Six carryover that will (hopefully) be waiting for me in Humbolt County/Ferndale. But that's next weekend; let's now get to this weekend's puzzle, as I take another run at The Pick Four at The Place Where The Turf Meets The Surf.
RACE 7 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Six Furlongs Dirt

Go On Mary could improve with the hood being added. Sandy's Surprise could move up with the return to the main track.

Note that St Patrick's Day is a full brother to American Pharoah, which pretty much guarantees that he will be overbet in the Win Pool, despite the fact that his renowned older sibling did not win his debut.
Holy Ghost, sired by Ghostzapper, appears to have been working well for this, his first time out. Haulin' Freight, trained by Doug O'Neill, had a nice gate work back on the 6th.

Heavenly Thought could do well off the freshening. Pistol Packin Rose could be quick enough to overcome the outside post. Lucy De, Bombilate, and Ok Doll were third, fourth, and fifth (respectively) at this class level last time out, over this turf course.
