City Chapel, whom we have been following since he was claimed for $4k last August, made his fifteenth start for Trainer Victor Trujillo Sunday in Race 3 at Sacramento. The event, contested at a distance of six furlongs over the main dirt track, was a Starter Allowance; and thus, a step up in class for City Chapel, as this marks the first race that City Chapel has run for the Trujillo barn without a price tag on his head.
City Chapel (Final Odds 6.30) broke last from the gate, and was still last at the half-mile mark; but, in the words of the chart caller, he "finished steadily" and was able to secure the Place, two lengths behind the Winner, Classic Crusader (2.00*). The Place finish was worth $4,050 in purse money (more than City Chapel had originally been claimed for!) and brings City Chapel's total purse winnings for Victor Trujillo to $29,595.
Peace and Love,
Jimbo
