2/6/21 Santa Anita Rainbow Pick Six - Preview

Saturday has been designated a mandatory payout day for the Jackpot Pick Six in Arcadia; and while increasing the degree of difficulty while in the midst of a slump may not be the wisest of choices, I decided this weekend to not exercise the discipline required to pass on a pool filled with free money.  So with that let's get to it, as I take a run at The Rainbow Pick Six at The Great Race Place.

RACE 5 - (F) [S] Md $50k - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

Madusa's Gaze took the Place at this class level last time out, after having taken the Show at this class level two starts back.  Smoothlikebuttah drops in for a tag for the first time in her career, after having taken the Show against non-Claiming state bred Maidens in her most recent dirt start.

Allergic to Logic took the Show in her debut behind Medusa's Gaze last time out.  Half Hoping took the Place in front of Medusa's Gaze back on Boxing Day.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

Whisper Not (GB) took the Show in the Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile last time out, and looks to be much the best here.  So I'll be going solo on the big ticket this leg, with all others being used as backup "C" Selections.

In contrast to the previous leg, I believe that a legitimate argument could be made for hitting the "ALL" button for this contest.  The Chosen Vron and Found My Ball were both easy winners last time out, albeit against state bred company.  Uncle Boogie is the only runner here to have defeated winners.  Uncle Boogie is also Graded Stakes placed.

Ultimately, however, I decided to go just two deep here, using both of the Bob Baffert trained runners.  I give a slight edge to Freedom Fighter because it looks like he's been the quicker of the the two in the AM drills.  So it's two deep here, with the other three being used as backup "C" Selections.

More Bubbly looked sharp while winning his debut last time out, and this looks like a good placement for him.  Bird may need a race off the eleven month layoff; but Bird fits well here on class, and the turnback in distance should be to Bird's benefit.

Squalotoro could improve going third off the layoff.  Bob's Sniper took the Place at this class level two starts back.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

Aadhana is dropping in for a tag for the first time.  Aadhana, a daughter of California Chrome, should also appreciate the move to the turf.

Varoma could improve going third off the layoff.  Golden Journey will be making her second career turf start; Trainer Richard Baltas tends to do well with such.

Agreetodisagree and Lunatic are both dropping in for a tag for the first time.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.
