Race 1 - # 5 Grand Yodeler (Final Odds 1.60) - "A" Selection
Race 2 - # 4 Shysheisnot (2.00*) - "A" Selection
Race 3 - # 5 Broadway Nika (5.00) - No Selection
Race 4 - # 2 Blake's Magic (3.90) - No Selection
Race 5 - # 3 Tiz Futurity (8.40) - No Selection
Not exactly a banner day for us. Gary Stevens showed that he is indeed healthy enough to find the Winner's Circle; so even in a leg where we got an "A" Selection home we were actually wrong, because we spread needlessly. We had four of the six runners in Race 3 covered, and yet still managed to miss the winner, and a very logical contender at that. We also whiffed on the winner in Race 4, another very logical contender.
Oh well; onto the next race.
And yet, despite the rather poor showing, I can't be too hard on myself here; because even if I had played the first four legs of this sequence correctly, the only way I would have covered Tiz Futurity in Race 5 is if I hit the "ALL" button. Tiz Futurity going into today's contest was a lifetime one-for-thirty-four. Tiz Futurity had lost all ten of his previous tries on a synthetic surface; including four tries on the Del Mar main track. Tiz Futurity's last eleven races has been at either this class level or cheaper, and he had lost them all. Tiz Futurity had gone off as the Post Time Favorite three starts back against $8k N2X company, and had managed to lose by eleven lengths. So there was virtually no way I was hitting today's Pick Five; not with Tiz Futurity capturing one of the five legs.
Meanwhile, those who had the correct Pick Five sequence of 5 / 4 / 5 / 2 / 3 were rewarded with a payout of $1,844.40 for their fifty cent wager. May God bless them as they spend their winnings.
Peace and Love,
Jimbo
