It's the final Sunday of July, meaning that it is also the final day of the thoroughbred meet at the California State Fair in Sacramento. Now keep in mind that, even though this is the final day of the meet, there is no mandatory payout today for the jackpot pool. The jackpot will carryover to Santa Rosa, the next stop on the fair circuit; provided, of course, that is doesn't get scooped on Sunday. [EDIT - THIS IS INCORRECT - While the Jackpot Pick Six Pool (which reached $22,085 at the close of Sunday's racing) does carryover, it does NOT carryover to Santa Rosa. Rather, the carryover will be added to the pool when racing moves to The Humbolt County Fair (Ferndale). The Santa Rosa (Sonoma County) meet is separate from the other California Authority of Racing Fairs (CARF), which are being run this year as a single meet. Full details are here; and my sincere apologies for the earlier error and any confusion that it may have caused. - Jimbo] So with all that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Gold Rush Pick Six at Sacramento.
RACE 3 - Clm $8k N2X - Six Furlongs Dirt
A’s
# 2 Private Marini (Morning Line 9-5)
B’s
# 3 Jury (ML 2-1)
# 4 The Natural (ML 3-1)
C's
# 1 Southern Darling (ML 8-1)
# 5 Jackotree (ML 9-2)
Private Marini took the Place at this class level last time out, with The Natural taking the Show behind him. Jury could be the speed of the speed here. Southern Darling is on the ticket because everyone else is. Jackotree ran well enough last time out while defeating lesser that his form may hold with the class rise today.
RACE 4 - Md $5k - Eight Furlongs Dirt
A’s
# 2 Uncle Kimo (ML 5-2)
B's
# 3 Gunner Grey (ML 3-1)
# 6 Tailored (ML 8-1)
C's
None
Scratch # 5 Royal Charter (ML 9-5)
Uncle Kimo took the Show at this class level last time out. Gunner Grey just didn't have it last time out; perhaps Gunner Grey will return to the form that he showed two starts back. Tailored looks to be quickest here, though Tailored's stamina is a concern.
RACE 5 - Clm $10k - Eight Furlongs Dirt
A’s
# 4 Gurnick (ML 4-1)
# 6 Storm Fashion (ML 9-2)
B’s
# 1 Mon Mousse (ML 3-1)
C's
None
Scratch # 2 Neptune's Spear (ML 6-1) and # 7 Pocket Prince (ML 10-1)
Storm Fashion took the Place at this class level last time out, with Gurnick taking the Show behind him. Mon Mousse could improve with the change of surface.
RACE 6 - (F) MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt
A’s
# 1 Assemble (ML 5-2)
B's
None
C's
# 3 Daylur Bold (ML 12-1)
# 6 She's an Eagle (ML 3-1)
# 7 She's My Winner (ML 7-2)
Assemble took the Show in her debut last time out, and could be speed on the rail today. Daylur Bold is a first time starter that looks like she could be ready to roll at first asking. She's an Eagle could improve in this, her second career start. She's My Winner took the Place in her debut last time out with a price tag on her head; perhaps her form will hold with the class rise.
RACE 7 - (F) Alw 40000s N2L - Eight Furlongs Dirt
A’s
# 3 Unbroken Code (ML 9-5)
B’s
# 1 Awaken My Soul (ML 7-2)
C's
# 6 Golden Squeeze (ML 4-1)
Note for future reference that this contest is for fillies and mares which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass by having one (and only one) win not considered, if one of their two career victories was for $16k or less. For the record, # 2 Singapore Tune and # 3 Unbroken Code are the only runners in this field to have visited the Winner's Circle more than once in their career.
Unbroken Code made a nice move forward last time out off the freshening, and could improve upon that effort today. Awaken My Soul has taken the Place at this class level in each of her last two starts. Golden Squeeze graduated in her first try on the dirt last time out, and could be the one running best late.
RACE 8 - ALW N1X - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt
A's
# 3 Percy Fawcett (ML 4-1)
# 5 Mr. Shook (ML 3-1)
B's
# 6 Dixie Pistol (ML 7-2)
# 7 Cackle the Cuda (ML 9-2)
C's
None
Percy Fawcett and Mr. Shook crossed under the wire just a head apart at this class level last time out. Dixie Pistol ran well enough while defeating lesser by daylight last time out that his form may hold with the class rise today. Cackle the Cuda took the Show at this class level two starts back, albeit on the turf.
OK, that's the analysis. While this is a jackpot wager, I won't be putting all my selections on one ticket. While I still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of my life, budgetary constraints must be respected. I also think it's safe to presume that my "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket; so I should be safe in pressing those up. So with all that, playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:
All A Entries
$1.00 P6: 2 with 2 with 4,6 with 1 with 3 with 3,5 $4.00
All A Entries with All B Entries
$0.20 P6: 2,3,4 with 2,3,6 with 1,4,6 with 1 with 1,3 with 3,5,6,7 $43.20
A's with One C
$0.20 P6: 1,5 with 2 with 4,6 with 1 with 3 with 3,5 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 4,6 with 3,6,7 with 3 with 3,5 $2.40
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 4,6 with 1 with 6 with 3,5 $0.80
Total: $52.00
Post Time for Race 3 is 5:46 EDT / 2:46 PDT. Good luck to all.
Peace and Love,
Jimbo
