It's never a good idea to have a single on your big ticket in which you don't have full confidence; and Saturday was a good example of that. As I mentioned in the preview, my big ticket single, # 6 Knoll (2.80) in the opening leg, was a lifetime two-for-twenty-nine going into Saturday's contest. Such a runner should not be a single on any ticket, excepting the rarest of circumstances. But more importantly, the fact that I was expressing such doubts about Knoll's win chances in the preview should have been a clear signal that she was not the single that I was looking for, and I should have adjusted my play accordingly.
However, with that said, had I moved Contessa B from backup to the big ticket, I most likely still would not have collected Saturday. I certainly wouldn't have doubled the cost of my big ticket, which simply adding Contessa B while making no other adjustments would have done. And while I will never know exactly how the play would have gone down, I feel confident that I still would have had Kimberlea K and Blushing Bug on the big ticket. But Lucky Patrick almost certainly would have remained a backup "C" Selection, which would have doomed all tickets to the trash bin anyway.
Oh well; onto the next race.
Meanwhile, those who had the correct Gold Rush Pick Six sequence of 5 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 4 were rewarded with a payout of $528.96 for their twenty cent wager. May God bless them as they spend their winnings.
Peace and Love,
Jimbo
