9/30/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 8 - The FrontRunner - # 4 Bolt d'Oro (Final Odds 0.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - The Rodeo Drive - # 5 Avenge (2.00) - "B" Selection
Race 10 - The Awesome Again - # 6 Mubtaahij (Ire) (3.10) - "B" Selection
Race 11 - The Unzip Me - # 5 Storm the Hill (7.40) - No Selection

The last time Storm the Hill charged down the Santa Anita Hill she took the Show in the Special Goddess, over a length behind # 3 Kenda (4.30).  But Kenda didn't fire Saturday, and Storm the Hill was able to get past # 9 Spin Me a Kiss (9.10) in the final strides while holding off a late surging # 4 Tapped (4.90) at the wire to win the Unzip Me, and in the process make this a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

For the record, here are the $0.50 Will Pays for the seven runners to which I would have cashed in the finale:

# 3 Kenda (4.30) - $130.00 Finish: 8th
# 4 Tapped (4.90) - $170.85 Finish: 2nd
# 7 Isa Firecracker (56.00) - $1,506.80 Finish: 11th
# 9 Spin Me a Kiss (9.10) - $183.80 Finish: 3rd
# 10 Kathy’s Song (7.90) - $194.30 Finish: 4th
# 11 Miss Southern Miss (3.30*) - $140.75 Finish: 5th
# 12 Queen Laila (13.70) - $348.80 Finish: 9th

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  4 / 5 / 6 / 5  were rewarded with a payout of $231.15 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/30/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

It's a huge day of racing at Santa Anita today, with five Grade 1 stakes on the card, headlined by the Awesome Again.  So, as is my wont on such occasions, I will be taking my action Saturday (and probably Sunday) downstate, and taking a run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 8 - The FrontRunner (Grade 1) - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 4 Bolt d'Oro (Morning Line 2-1)
# 8 Solomini (ML 4-1)

B's

# 1 Zatter (ML 5-2)

C's

# 6 Texas Wedge (ML 6-1)

Bolt d'Oro and Zatter, in that order, filled out the Exacta in the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity earlier this month.  Solomini, the "other" Baffert, looked sharp in winning his debut last time out.  Texas Wedge, trained by Peter Miller, is taking a big jump up from the Maiden Claiming ranks.  But Texas Wedge won that contest by over a half dozen lengths against a next out winner, and he shows a nice solid work tab leading up to this event.

RACE 9 - (F) The Rodeo Drive (Grade 1) - Ten Furlongs Turf

A's

# 10 Goodyearforroses (Ire) (ML 5-2)

B's

# 5 Avenge (ML 3-1)

C's

# 2 Goldy Espony (Fr) (ML 8-1)
# 6 Amboseli (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 7 Beau Recall (Ire) (ML 8-1)

Goodyearforroses (Ire) has shown an affinity for this turf course in the past, and looks to have a clear class edge over the rest of this field.  Avenge took the field from gate to wire in last year's running of this event; and while Avenge may not make the early lead today, she has show the ability in the past to win by coming from off the pace.

Goldy Espony (Fr) could move up with the turn back in distance.  Amboseli could be the one running best late.

RACE 10 - The Awesome Again (Grade 1) - Nine Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 5 Breaking Lucky (ML 5-1)
# 8 Cupid (ML 2-1)

B's

# 6 Mubtaahij (Ire) (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 2 Dortmund (ML 8-1)

Breaking Lucky took the Show in each of his last two contests, both Grade Ones, and should appreciate not seeing Gun Runner on the track with him.  Cupid, winner of the Grade 1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita two starts back, has yet to finish out of the Exacta when competing over this main track.  Mubtaahij (Ire) could be the one running best late.

RACE 11 - (F) The Unzip Me $70k - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 3 Kenda (ML 6-1)

B's

# 4 Tapped (ML 10-1)
# 7 Isa Firecracker (ML 30-1)
# 9 Spin Me a Kiss (ML 8-1)
# 10 Kathy's Song (ML 6-1)
# 11 Miss Southern Miss (ML 5-1)
# 12 Queen Laila (ML 8-1)

C's

# 6 Noted and Quoted (ML 6-1)
# 8 Little Jude (ML 9-2)

Scratch the Also Eligibles, # 13 Chocolate Coated (ML 12-1) and # 14 Tillie's Lily (ML 5-1)

Kenda, winner of the Special Goddess back in June, has finished in the Exacta all four times that she has charged down the Santa Anita hill.  Tapped gets some class relief here, and could move up with the blinkers added.  Isa Firecracker tries California grass for the first time; her breeding suggests that she'll like it just fine; and her sharp work over at Golden Gate last Saturday suggests that Isa Firecracker is ready to run.

Spin Me a Kiss has finished in the Exacta all three times that she has charged down the Santa Anita Hill.  Kathy's Song has done well in the past at eight and eight-and-a-half furlongs on the flats; a sign that Kathy's Song could do well charging down the hill.  Miss Southern Miss fits well here on class, and has shown the ability in the past to win off just works.  Queen Laila's breeding suggests that she should handle the surface switch well.

Noted and Quoted is another whose breeding suggests that she will do well on grass; but Noted and Quoted is trained by Bob Baffert, who generally does not move his runners to the turf unless he has run out of ideas of what to do with them on dirt.  Little Jude has improved greatly for Trainer Peter Miller since her uninspiring debut down this course back in April.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 4,8 with 10 with 5,8 with 3 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,4,8 with 5,10 with 5,6,8 with 3,4,7,9,10,11,12 $63.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6 with 10 with 5,8 with 3 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 4,8 with 2,6 with 5,8 with 3 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 4,8 with 10 with 5,8 with 6,8 $4.00

Total: $76.00

Post Time for Race 8 is 7:03 EDT / 4:03 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/24/17 Oak Tree At Pleasanton Gold Rush Pick Six - Preview

"I'm a legend in this sport. If you don't believe me, ask me." - Bobby Heenan

Sunday marks the midway point of Part II of the California State Fair meet at Pleasanton, closing out as it does the first of two weekends here before the action moves on to Fresno.  And that's really all I have by way of introduction; so let's get to it, as I take another run at The Gold Rush Pick Six at Oak Tree at Pleasanton.

RACE 4 - (F) Md $5k - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Evening Up (Morning Line 8-5)
# 4 Reva Bella (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 3 Highland Rose (ML 6-1)

Note that, while this event was written for open company, all runners here are California bred.

Evening Up returns from an extended layoff; Trainer John Martin tends to do well with such.  Reva Bella gets some much needed class relief.  Highland Rose took the Show at this class level last time out, and just might prove that the third times ten time is the charm.

RACE 5 - (F) Alw 4000s - Eight and a Third Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Foreverinsummer (ML 5-2)
# 4 Exactamente (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 6 Contessa B. (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 Roianna (ML 4-1)

Note for future reference that this event has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any filly or mare that has started for a claiming price of $4k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Exactamente and Foreverinsummer filled out the Exacta at this class level last time out, with their order of finish being reversed when Exactamente was DQ'd.  Contessa B. won by daylight each of the two prior times that she competed over a Fast dirt track.  Roianna fits at this class level, and, like Exactamente, got to visit the Winner's Circle in her only previous contest over this track.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $25k B - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Rizzi's Honors (ML 9-5)

B's

# 1 Social Taboo (ML 4-1)
# 4 Maz Kanata (ML 6-1)

C's

# 7 Chocolate Goddess (ML 5-1)

This contest is restricted to fillies and mares three years old and upward which have never won three races OR fillies, three years old.  So if your distaff runner is four years old or older, then she must have fewer than three wins in her career.  However, if your filly is three years old, then she can have as many wins as she pleases.  Note that there are no qualifiers for the win totals (that is, no exceptions for maiden victories, or wins where the purse was less than a certain dollar amount).  For the record, # 4 Maz Kanata is the only runner here with more than two lifetime wins, having gotten her picture taken three times in her career.  By the way, these conditions will also be used for the boys running in the nightcap below.

Rizzi's Honors ships in from downstate for Trainer Peter Miller, having been claimed from her last race at Del Mar, which she won by nearly a half dozen lengths.  Miller tends to do quite well with runners going first off the claim; but it does seem rather curious that he would send Rizzi's Honors north to run on dirt rather than entering her at Los Alamitos.

Social Taboo is another shipping in from downstate, having taken the Place last time out at Los Alamitos at this approximate class level (lover claiming price, but no conditions).  Maz Kanata could be the speed of the speed here, while Chocolate Goddess might be the one running best late.

RACE 7 - (F) OC 62k/N2X - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Fast and Foxy (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 4 Princess Ashlyn (ML 5-2)
# 5 My Dynamo (ML 15-1)
# 8 Sky Forever (ML 8-1)

C's

# 2 Deb's Wildcard (ML 8-1)
# 7 Emmy and I (ML 4-1)

Fast and Foxy may be the speed of the speed here in a field that has a lot of fast runners.  Princess Ashlyn was a half length behind Fast and Foxy at the wire two starts back in the $50k California Governor's Cup.  My Dynamo, making her second start off an extended layoff, could be the one running best late.  Sky Forever is three-for-four lifetime over this track.

Deb's Wildcard was Princess Ashlyn's virtual equal at the wire last time out; but that was on the synthetic track at Golden Gate.  Emmy and I was victorious at this class level two starts back.

RACE 8 - MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Playing Through (ML 7-2)

B's

# 6 Ishi (ML 2-1)

C's

# 2 Power Times Two (ML 5-1)
# 4 Tortosa (ML 9-2)
# 5 Bold Charmant (ML 8-1)

These are juveniles, but all are experienced, as there are no first time starters in this field.

Playing Through ships in from downstate after a pair of troubled trips at Del Mar.  Ishi dumped his rider in his debut last time out shortly after leaving the gate as the Post Time Favorite; the fact that Jockey Irving Orozco has chosen to ride Ishi again tells me that he thinks that this horse has talent.

Power Times Two flashed good early speed in his debut last time out.  Tortosa took the Place at this class level last time out without ever threatening the winner of that contest.  Bold Charmant ran well in his only prior try on a Fast dirt track.

RACE 9 - Clm $6.25k B - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Foolish to Deceive (ML 2-1)
# 3 Kern Ridge (ML 3-1)

B's

None

C's

# 5 Sizzling Eddie (ML 5-1)
# 6 Oil Change (ML 4-1)

Similar to Race 6 above, this contest is restricted to runners three years old and upward which have never won three races OR runners three years old.  So if your runner is four years old or older, then he must have fewer than three wins in her career, per the conditions.  However, if your runner is three years old, then she can have as many wins as she pleases.  Note that there are no qualifiers for the win totals (that is, no exceptions for maiden victories, or wins where the purse was less than a certain dollar amount).  For the record, # 1 Foolish to Deceive is the only runner here with more than two lifetime wins, having gotten his picture taken three times in his career.  BUT FOOLISH TO DECEIVE IS FOUR YEARS OLD.  So it looks like someone messed up somewhere.

Foolish to Deceive, in addition to having been slipped into this one past the stewards, won by daylight in each of his two prior races over a Fast dirt track (the last victory was a Dead Heat; maybe that's what caused the confusion?).  Kern Ridge was victorious against open $10k claimers over the Sacramento dirt track two starts back.

Sizzling Eddie could move up with the turn back in distance.  Oil Change is two-for-four lifetime when competing over a Fast dirt track.

OK, that's the analysis.  While this is a jackpot wager, I won't be putting all my selections on one ticket.  While I still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of my life, budgetary constraints must be respected.  I also think it's safe to presume that my "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket; so I should be safe in pressing those up.  So with all that, playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 2,4 with 2,4 with 3 with 1 with 3 with 1,3 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 2,4,6 with 1,3,4 with 1,4,5,8 with 3,6 with 1,3 $57.60

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 3 with 2,4 with 3 with 1 with 3 with 1,3 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 1 with 3 with 1 with 3 with 1,3 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 2,4 with 7 with 1 with 3 with 1,3 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 2,4 with 3 with 2,7 with 3 with 1,3 $3.20
$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 2,4 with 3 with 1 with 2,4,5 with 1,3 $4.80
$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 2,4 with 3 with 1 with 3 with 5,6 $1.60

Total: $78.40

Post Time for Race 4 is 6:16 EDT / 3:16 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/23/17 Oak Tree At Pleasanton Gold Rush Pick Six - Results

Race 4 - # 5 Press Baron (Final Odds 1.70*) - "A" Selection
Race 5 - # 3 Four Leaf (2.00) - "C" Selection
Race 6 - # 2 Storm Fashion (1.10*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 4 Perfect for Me (5.50) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 2 Mended (0.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 7 Meadowlark (1.60*) - "A" Selection

You all already know how this song goes: had 'em all, but not all on any one ticket.  Four Leaf is now two-for-two lifetime competing on the Pleasanton oval, each of those two races marking the only two times in Four Leaf's career that she was able to grab the lead at first call in a one turn race.  Meanwhile, the early speed that Perfect for Me had flashed in her debut carried her all the way to the line Saturday in her second career effort, as she crossed under the wire a full length in front of # 3 Our Bold Princess (4.90), whom Perfect for Me had finished over a dozen lengths behind in that prior effort.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Gold Rush Pick Six sequence of  5 / 3 / 2 / 4 / 2 / 7  were rewarded with a payout of $152.14 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/23/17 Oak Tree At Pleasanton Gold Rush Pick Six - Preview

Back to the state fair circuit this weekend; Pleasanton, to be exact, for phase two of the 2017 Oak Tree meet.  Since there's already over ten grand in the Jackpot Pick Six pool (thanks to all fairs (sans Santa Rosa) being counted as one meeting for carryover purposes this year) I figure I might as well dive right in myself; so with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Gold Rush Pick Six at Oak Tree at Pleasanton.

RACE 4 - Clm $2.5k - Eight and One Third Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Blazing Image (Morning Line 5-2)
# 5 Press Baron (GB) (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

None

Blazing Image won by as many as he wanted last time out on the dirt at Ferndale at this approximate class level (higher price tag, but with conditions).  Press Baron (GB) gets some much needed class relief here; though it's fair to wonder just how well Press Baron will run on real dirt.

RACE 5 - (F) Clm $4k N2L - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 She Began Again (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 4 Dixie Spice (ML 3-1)

C's

# 3 Four Leaf (ML 5-2)

She Began Again could move up with the surface switch.  Dixie Spice, now trained by Steve Sherman, appears to have been working well for this, her first start in sixteen months.  Four Leaf took the Place at this class level last time out.

RACE 6 - Clm $8k N1Y - Eight and a Third Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Storm Fashion (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 1 Unusually Big (ML 7-2)
# 3 Lucky Views (ML 4-1)

# 4 Outdoorsman Gene (ML 15-1)
# 5 Canada (ML 9-2)
# 6 Nahem (ML 3-1)

C's

None

This contest is for runners three year olds and upward that have not won a race in 2017, excluding Maiden races, and Claiming and Starter contests for $6.25k or less.

Storm Fashion took the Place against classier competition in each of his last two starts on a Fast dirt track.  Unusually Big has more Wins over a Fast dirt track than the rest of the field combined.  Lucky Views closed well to win at seven furlongs last time out.

Outdoorsman Gene is on the ticket because everyone else is.  Canada could improve with the turn back in distance.  Nahem fits well here on class; but the lifetime zero-for-eight record when competing over a Fast dirt track is a concern.

RACE 7 - (F) MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Silken Queen (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 2 Royal Lookin (ML 8-1)
# 3 Our Bold Princess (ML 6-1)
# 4 Perfect for Me (ML 8-1)

# 6 Admonition (ML 5-1)

Scratch # 8 She's an Eagle (ML 3-1)

These are juveniles, but all are experienced, as there are no first time starters in this field.

Silken Queen missed graduation by just half a length last time out in her debut at Golden Gate Fields.  Royal Lookin took the Show at Santa Rosa behind a next out winner two starts back.  Our Bold Princess ran well in her debut last time out, once she realized that there was a race going on and that she was in it.

Perfect for Me showed good early speed in her debut last time out.  Admonition could improve with the surface switch.

RACE 8 - (F) OC 62k/N2X - Eight and a Third Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Mended (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 3 Blushing Bug (ML 5-1)
# 4 Mon Petite (ML 9-2)
# 5 Fervent Femme (ML 5-2)

Mended has yet to lose since joining the barn of Trainer John Martin, and all seven victories have been by daylight.  Blushing Bug was a winner in her only prior try over a Fast dirt track.  Mon Petite missed victory by just a nose in the $50k Luther Burbank last time out.  Fervent Femme, the "other" John Martin, was a winner at this class level over this track two starts back.

RACE 9 - Md $12.5k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Let's Havanuther (ML 6-1)
# 7 Meadowlark Thunder (ML 7-2)

B's

# 2 Stormin G A (ML 9-2)
# 3 Macandoo (ML 6-1)

C's

# 5 Woodford Surprise (ML 10-1)
# 6 Thisonesfordanny (ML 5-2)

Note that, while this race was carded for runners three years old and upward, all entrants are in fact three years old; none are upward.  It's also worth noting that # 7 Meadowlark Thunder is the only runner in this field that is not a California bred.

Let's Havanuther and Meadowlark Thunder filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta last time out at Golden Gate Fields.  Stormin G A could move forward with the class drop.  Macandoo took the Place against more expensive last time out; but last time out was eleven months ago.

Woodford Surprise closed well in his debut last time out, and should be more forwardly placed today with the blinkers being added.  Thisonesfordanny had stamina issues in his prior two starts; if he can last til the end, Thisonesfordanny could be the one getting his picture taken after this one is over.

$1.00 P6: 1,5 with 6 with 2 with 1 with 2 with 4,7 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 1,5 with 4,6 with ALL with 1 with 2 with 2,3,4,7 $19.20

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 1,5 with 3 with 2 with 1 with 2 with 4,7 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 1,5 with 6 with 2 with 2,3,4,6 with 2 with 4,7 $3.20
$0.20 P6: 1,5 with 6 with 2 with 1 with 3,4,5 with 4,7 $2.40
$0.20 P6: 1,5 with 6 with 2 with 1 with 2 with 5,6 $0.80

Total: $30.40

Post Time for Race 4 is 6:16 EDT / 3:16 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/17/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 5 - The Rolling Green - # 1 Force (Ire) (Final Odds 2.00*) - No Selection
Race 6 - # 3 Cut (1.70*) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 10 Swingshift Deputy (5.80) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 4 Regal Born (0.70*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 4 Small Town Cop (10.20) - No Selection
Race 10 - # 10 Marie's Mystere (31.50) - No Selection

I was able to get one of my two singles home Sunday; but really, just nothing happening on the day, as that was the only big ticket selection to find its way to the Winner's Circle, with the play being mercifully snuffed out after the first leg.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  1 / 3 / 10 / 4 / 4 / 10  were non-existent.  As was the case Saturday, nobody picked six on Sunday.  Nobody.  Those who picked five out of six were rewarded with a payout of $309.76 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/17/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

It's the final Summer Sunday of 2017, and with it comes the final day of Golden Gate's mini meet.  So that makes Sunday a mandatory payout day for the Pick Five, the Super High-Five, and (most importantly for us) the Golden Pick Six.  For the occasion there is a non-Graded Stake on the card, the Rolling Green; though its placement in the program as Race 5 is rather curious (perhaps they weren't expecting it to draw as well as it did).  So with all that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Golden Pick Six at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 5 - The Rolling Green $50k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 G. G. Ryder (Morning Line 5-1)
# 4 Street Lad (ML 7-2)
# 5 Camino Del Paraiso (ML 6-1)

B's

None

C's

None

Street Lad, Camino Del Paraiso, and G. G. Ryder were all within a length of each other (in that order) at the wire last time out in the $50k Joseph T Grace at Santa Rosa, and there's little reason to think that these three won't be closely bunched on the line again Sunday.  If I had to pick one of the three as top choice, I would probably lean towards Street Lad, as early speed seems to be holding up well this meet on the Golden Gate grass; but on the other hand, as the winner of the prior encounter, Street Lad is likely to draw a disproportionate amount of the Win pool funds relative to the other two contenders, thus making him a less attractive option as top choice.

RACE 6 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Zahabra (ML 5-2)

B’s

None

C's

# 3 Cut (ML 9-5)
# 7 Autumn Blitz (ML 4-1)

Scratch # 5 Bunker Buster (ML 15-1)

Zahabra looks to be the clear class of this field, having graduated last time out against $25k Maiden Claimers, after having taken the Show against non-Claiming Maidens two starts back.  The time away since that victory could be a concern, but Zahabra seems to have run well in the past after taking some time off.

Cut graduated by daylight over this main track last time out.  Autumn Blitz took the Place at this class level last time out; but the concern with Autumn Blitz is that he seems to settle for too many minor awards.

RACE 7 - ALW N1X - Five Furlongs Turf

A's

# 2 Mirror Image (ML 8-1)

B's

# 7 Oil (ML 3-1)
# 9 Brownie Finale (ML 4-1)

C's

# 6 Jen's Journey (ML 12-1)
# 8 Hot Lightning (ML 7-2)
# 10 Swingshift Deputy (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 11 Soap Box (ML 4-1), # 12 Luck Lasts (ML 9-2), and # 13 Incensed (ML 6-5), none of whom draw in off the Also Eligible list

Mirror Image will be trying the turf for the first time today, and if his speed carries over to the new surface Mirror Image should be very tough to beat.  Brownie Finale and Oil filled out the bottom two slots, respectively, of the Trifecta at this class level last time out.

Jen's Journey was a neck better than Mirror Image last December while cashing at odds of 14-1; maybe lightning will strike twice.  Speaking of lightning, Hot Lightning was a winner at this class level two starts back; but the concern with Hot Lightning is that he has finished off the board in each of his two prior turf starts.  Swingshift Deputy was victorious at this class level in his only prior try over this turf course.

RACE 8 - Alw 40000s N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Regal Born (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 3 Levitation (ML 6-1)
# 5 Red Car Mac (ML 5-1)
# 6 Pamper Me Now (ML 8-1)
# 7 Out At Eight (ML 5-2)

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass by having one (and just one) win not considered, if one of their two career wins was for $16k or less.  For the record, # 3 Levitation (ML 6-1) is the only runner in this field to have visited the winner's circle multiple times.

Regal Born took the Place against $40k open claimers down at Del Mar last time out.  Levitation, as mentioned above, is the only two-time winner in this field, and will be going first off the claim for Trainer Bob Hess, Jr.

Red Car Mac and Pamper Me Now took the Place and Show, respectively, at this class level last time out.  Out At Eight graduated by daylight against non-Claiming Maidens over this main track last time out.

RACE 9 - Clm $6.25k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Hittheroadrunning (ML 5-1)

B’s

# 5 American Aristocat (ML 9-2)
# 6 Mighty Marino (ML 20-1)
# 8 Gurnick (ML 3-1)
# 10 Sizzlin' Joe (ML 4-1)

C's

# 2 Hot Market (ML 12-1)
# 13 Belisarius (Ire) (ML 7-2)

Scratch # 7 Volkonsky (ML 20-1) and # 12 Kern Ridge (ML 20-1).  Bring in # 13 Belisarius (Ire) off the Also Eligible list.

Hittheroadrunning took the Place at this class level last time out, and was a winner by daylight (again at this class level) the last time that he competed over a firm turf course.  Gurnick and American Aristocat were just a head apart at the wire while filling out the Exacta at this class level last time out.

Mighty Marino could improve with the surface switch.  Sizzlin' Joe goes second off the claim for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.

Hot Market could move up with the class drop.  Belisarius (Ire), shipping in from downstate, could improve with the barn change and rider switch.

RACE 10 - (F) Md $8k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Dixie Avenue (ML 7-2)

B's

# 1 Warm and Sunny (ML 9-2)
# 4 Going Viral (ML 6-1)
# 5 Royal Chatter (ML 12-1)
# 9 Tiz Seeking a Win (ML 5-2)

C's

# 8 Kolocha (ML 10-1)

Dixie Avenue looks to be much the quickest in this field, and her early speed should carry her further with the class drop.  Warm and Sunny took the Place at this class level last time out.  Going Viral and Kolocha took the Place and Show, respectively, at this class level last time out.

Royal Chatter finished in the money against a next out winner last time out.  Tiz Seeking a Win took the Place against more expensive stock two starts back.

OK, that's the analysis.  Since this is a mandatory payout day, there are no concerns about having pressed up a single winning selection multiple times (the unkind readers out there are no doubt thinking that there is never such a concern with these selections).  So with all that, playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 2,4,5 with 4 with 2 with 4 with 1 with 3 $3.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 2,4,5 with 4 with 2,7,9 with 4 with 1,5,6,8,10 with 1,3,4,5,9 $45.00

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 2,4,5 with 3,7 with 2 with 4 with 1 with 3 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 2,4,5 with 4 with 6,8,10 with 4 with 1 with 3 $1.80
$0.20 P6: 2,4,5 with 4 with 2 with 3,5,6,7 with 1 with 3 $2.40
$0.20 P6: 2,4,5 with 4 with 2 with 4 with 2,13 with 3 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 2,4,5 with 4 with 2 with 4 with 1 with 8 $0.60

Total: $55.20

Post Time for Race 5 is 6:45 EDT / 3:45 PDT.  Good luck to all.

9/16/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 2 Synnin (Final Odds 0.40*) - "A" Selection
Race 5 - # 1 Monsajem Accrete (2.80) - "C" Selection
Race 6 - # 8 Smoked too Many (2.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 7 Exciting Dixie (6.30) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 6 Rebarules Again (4.70) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 5 Sunset Dragunn (5.90) - No Selection

Getting my big ticket single home to begin the sequence was certainly a highlight on the day; while having that be just one of two big ticket selections to cross under the wire first was certainly a lowlight.  On the whole it was a day where form just didn't seem to hold; for while there are no real bombs among the six winners above, there were seemingly a good many runners Saturday whose names aren't shown above because their efforts did not match the expectations that their past performances had created.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  2 / 1 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5  were non-existent.  Nobody picked six on Saturday.  Those who picked five out of six were rewarded with a payout of $639.26 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/16/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

So we reach the final weekend of  the Summer, and with it the final weekend of the Golden Gate mini-meet.  With the mandatory payout for the Jackpot pool Sunday, it made sense for me to get one in over the track prior to that, so Saturday's play will be a dive into The Pick Six pool.  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Golden Pick Six at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 4 - Alw 4000s - Five Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 Synnin (Morning Line 1-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 4 Ted Oliver (ML 3-1)
# 7 Nevadan (ML 12-1)
# 8 Good Stuff (ML 5-1)

Scratch # 1 Jury (ML 15-1)

Note for future reference that this event has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any runner that has started for a claiming price of $4k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Synnin has won at this class level in each of his last two starts, and neither contest was particularly close.  Ted Oliver took the Place behind Synnin last time out.  Nevadan and Good Stuff look to be the early speed here; perhaps one of them can hit the wire before Synnin gets into top gear.

RACE 5 - Alw 8000s - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Cackle the Cuda (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 2 Aventador (Fr) (ML 8-5)
# 6 My Friend George (ML 5-1)

C's

# 1 Monsajem Accrete (ML 9-2)

Note for future reference that this event, like Race 4 above, has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any runner that has started for a claiming price of $8k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Cackle the Cuda defeated classier company over the main dirt track at Santa Rosa two starts back.  Aventador (Fr), shipping in from Turf Paradise, has had prior success over this main track.  My Friend George took the Show against more expensive stock last time out at Santa Rosa.  Monsajem Accrete enters Saturday's event with a three race winning streak, albeit against lesser company.

RACE 6 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Crystal Dome (GB) (ML 7-2)
# 8 Smoked too Many (ML 5-1)

B’s

# 2 Not Chopped Liver (ML 8-1)
# 6 Wildcat Blues (ML 9-2)

C's

# 1 Candy's Martini (ML 3-1)

Crystal Dome (GB) gets some class relief for this, his second North American start.  Crystal Dome will also be donning the blinkers for the first time Saturday; runners for Trainer Dan Blacker tend to improve when he makes this move.

Smoked too Many took the Place at this class level last time out, and could be the quickest in this field.  Not Chopped Liver and Wildcat Blues are a pair trying the turf for the first time, whose respective trainers (Steve Sherman and John Martin) tend to do well when moving their runners to the lawn.  Candy's Martini could move up with the class drop; though Candy's Martini may be better suited to shorter distances.

RACE 7 - (F) Alw 40000s N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 No Spin Zone (ML 5-2)
# 8 Quick Song (ML 4-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Lovley Spy (ML 10-1)
# 6 Tiz Deliteful (ML 9-2)
# 9 C J's Dream (ML 6-1)

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass by having one (and just one) win not considered, if one of their two career wins was for $16k or less.  For the record, # 3 No Spin Zone (ML 5-2), # 6 Tiz Deliteful (ML 9-2), and # 8 Quick Song (ML 4-1) are the three runners in this field to have visited the winner's circle multiple times.

No Spin Zone has finished in the Exacta at this class level in each of her last three starts.  Quick Song was less than a length away from No Spin Zone at the wire last time out.  Lovley Spy took the Show at this class level over the Santa Rosa main track last time out.

Tiz Deliteful lost all chance at the start last time out.  C J's Dream closed well to graduate last time out; perhaps C J's Dream has finally figured it out.

RACE 8 - (F) ALW N1X - Five Furlongs Turf

A's

# 5 Papaclem'smidnight (ML 3-1)

B's

# 11 Bellanza (ML 6-1)

C's

# 6 Rebarules Again (ML 9-2)
# 9 Matter of Luck (ML 5-2)
# 10 Propeppy (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 1 Classy Lady (ML 20-1); bring in # 11 Bellanza (ML 6-1) off the Also Eligible List to replace her; but not # 12 Secret Thorn (ML 3-1), who gets the afternoon off.

Papaclem'smidnight won by daylight at this class level last time out.  Bellanza could be the speed of the speed in this field.  Rebarules Again took the Place behind Papaclem'smidnight last time out.

Matter of Luck took the Place in front of Papaclem'smidnight back in May.  Propeppy has taken the Show at this class level in each of her last two starts.

RACE 9 - MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Rule Number Eight (ML 4-1)

B's

# 4 Awhitesportscoat (ML 6-1)
# 7 Call the Boss (ML 9-2)
# 11 Uncle Hal (ML 15-1)

C's

# 8 Into Kings (ML 6-1)
# 9 Yerevan Song (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 13 Awesome Heights (ML 6-1) and # 14 Lil Awecim (ML 10-1), neither of whom draw in off the Also Eligible List.

Rule Number Eight missed graduation at this class level by just a head the last time that he competed over this main track.  Awhitesportscoat could move up with the turn back in distance.  Call the Boss took the Place at this class level two starts back.

Uncle Hal may have needed that last one, coming as it did after an eight month layoff.  Into Kings may be quick enough to retain his form with the class jump.  Yerevan Song could be the one running best late.

OK, that's the analysis.  While this is a jackpot wager, I won't be putting all my selections on one ticket.  While I still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of my life, budgetary constraints must be respected.  I think it's also safe to presume that my "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket, so I should be safe in pressing those up.  So with all that, playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 2 with 3 with 5,8 with 3,8 with 5 with 2 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 2 with 2,3,6 with 2,5,6,8 with 3,8 with 5,11 with 2,4,7,11 $38.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 4,7,8 with 3 with 5,8 with 3,8 with 5 with 2 $2.40
$0.20 P6: 2 with 1 with 5,8 with 3,8 with 5 with 2 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 3 with 1 with 3,8 with 5 with 2 $0.40
$0.20 P6: 2 with 3 with 5,8 with 1,6,9 with 5 with 2 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 2 with 3 with 5,8 with 3,8 with 6,9,10 with 2 $2.40
$0.20 P6: 2 with 3 with 5,8 with 3,8 with 5 with 8,9 $1.60

Total: $51.20

Post Time for Race 4 is 6:15 EDT / 3:15 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/4/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 2 Candy Pink (Final Odds 6.10) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 5 Giant Mark (3.20) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 2 Dixie Pistol (4.20) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 3 Fair Advantage (3.30) - No Selection

Did Giant Mark deserve greater consideration from me in the second leg of the sequence?  Giant Mark had failed to hit the board last time out against $6.25k N2X Claimers and was moving up Sunday to open (no conditions) $8k Claimers.  But Giant Mark was switching from turf (where he is a lifetime oh-for-three) to synthetic (where he was three-for-nineteen heading into Monday's action.  In addition, Giant Mark was switching to a barn that has been enjoying success with runners going first off the claim.  So perhaps more consideration should have been given to placing Giant Mark on the big ticket.

As for Fair Advantage, who on Monday was victorious on the Golden Gate main track for the first time in his ninth attempt, I would credit his victory to the contest's pace shape, which set up well for his closing abilities; an eventuality that perhaps should have been foreseen.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  2 / 5 / 2 / 3  were rewarded with a payout of $462.55 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

"If all the cars in the United States were placed end to end, it would probably be Labor Day Weekend." - Doug Larson

And so we make it to the holiday.  Hopefully this weekend has been everything that you had hoped that it would be, and that all of your plans for today come to fruition.  For me, those plans involving cashing on today's action at Golden Gate; so let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) Alw 4000s - Five Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Bellanza (Morning Line 1-1)

B’s

# 2 Candy Pink (ML 5-1)

C's

# 4 Shez a Griller (ML 3-1)
# 6 Panshir (ML 9-2)

Note for future reference that this event has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any filly or mare that has started for a claiming price of $4k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Bellanza took the Show against classier stock last time out.  Candy Pink tries some California grass for the first time Monday; and while Candy Pink's turf pedigree isn't especially strong, that's less important in sprints such as this, where speed is the determinant factor.

Shez a Griller took the Place at this class level last time out.  Panshir could be the one running best late.

RACE 7 - Clm $8k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Eddie and the King (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 6 Sizzlin' Joe (ML 9-5)

C's

# 5 Giant Mark (ML 7-2)

Eddie and the King has finished in the Trifecta against more expensive stock in each of his last two races, albeit on real dirt.  Sizzlin' Joe goes first off the claim for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.  Giant Mark could improve with the surface switch.

RACE 8 - ALW N1X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A's

# 3 Junior G Man (ML 3-1)
# 6 Lucky Bode (ML 2-1)

B's

# 1 Cackle the Cuda (ML 4-1)
# 2 Dixie Pistol (ML 7-2)

C's

None

Scratch # 7 Southern Loyalty (ML 8-1)

Junior G Man took the Show at this class level last time out, albeit on the dirt at Sacramento.  Lucky Bode took the Show in the $50k Robert Dupret Derby last time out.  Cackle the Cuda has finished in the Trifecta eight of the nine times that he has competed over this turf course.  Dixie Pistol could be the one running best late.

RACE 9 - Clm $16k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 He's a Tiger (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 1 Grand Palais (ML 8-5)
# 2 Van Lingle Mungo (ML 3-1)

C's

None

He's a Tiger missed victory by just a head last time out at this class level, albeit on real dirt.  Grant Palais took the Place against more expensive stock up at Emerald Downs two and three starts back.  Van Lingle Mungo could move up with the surface switch.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 5 with 4 with 3,6 with 4 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 2,5 with 4,6 with 1,2,3,6 with 1,2,4 $24.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 4,6 with 4 with 3,6 with 4 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 5 with 3,6 with 4 $1.00

Total: $29.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 7:22 EDT / 4:22 PDT.  Good luck to all.

9/3/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 5 Mototapu (Final Odds 0.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 4 Breakaway Dixie (20.50) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 3 Crown Kitten (1.20*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 8 Percy's Bluff (1.30*) - "A" Selection

Needless to say, I chose the wrong contest in which to use the full field.  I had everyone covered in some way, shape, or form in both the opening leg and the third leg, only to see the Post Time Favorite get their picture taken after each of those contests.  Meanwhile, I had absolutely no part of the big priced winner of the second leg, Breakaway Dixie; a filly who had not only been absent from the Winner's Circle for quite a spell, but who also had spent considerable time outside of the Exacta.  But that's one of the requirements to be successful at this game: you need to know when to pinpoint and when to spread; and having failed at that task Sunday made it a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  5 / 4 / 3 / 8  were rewarded with a payout of $141.00 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/3/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

It's the mid-point of a holiday weekend in the US, and the final four contests at Golden Gate Fields includes a Maiden Claiming contest where all the runners are first time starters, as well as a genuine Starter Allowance that doesn't have lifetime Win restriction.  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $20k N2X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Devil's Beauty (Morning Line 3-1)
# 5 Motutapu (ML 8-5)

B’s

# 2 Forest Wildflower (ML 5-2)
# 4 Classy Lady Liz (ML 5-1)

C's

# 1 Tough Penny (ML 8-1)
# 6 Vronilla Parfait (ML 12-1)

Devil's Beauty has won three of her last four contests, including her most recent foray over this main track.  Motutapu is Exhibit A as to why track announcers are worth every bit of their paycheck, as that's going to be a tough one to get right.  Motutapu should benefit from the class relief that she is receiving here.

Forest Wildflower and Classy Lady Liz are both dropping down from the open (no conditions) claiming ranks.  Tough Penny, a re-claim by Trainer Valerie Rhoden, could be the one running best late.  Vronilla Parfait is on the ticket because everyone else is.  No first round knockout today!

RACE 7 - (F) ALW N1X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A's

# 10 Emeralds Miss (ML 4-1)

B's

# 1 Lyrics (ML 3-1)
# 7 Please Do (ML 5-1)

C's

# 5 Hal's Buddy (ML 6-1)
# 6 Hawk's Journey (ML 10-1)
# 9 Gotham's Princess (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 11 The Incident (ML 20-1) and # 12 Rose Among Thorns (ML 12-1); but don't bring in the Also Eligible # 13 Tiburtina (ML 5-2), as she's scratched too.

Emeralds Miss returns from an extended vacation for Trainer Ricardo Perez, who has some success with such.  Emeralds Miss has finished in the Exacta six of the seven times that she has competed over this turf course.

Please Do took the Place in an N1X Optional Claimer last time out on the Santa Rosa turf, with Hal's Buddy taking the Show behind her.  Hawk's Journey, returning from downstate, has run well over this turf course in the past.  Gotham's Princess is undefeated after two career starts; perhaps she can keep that streak going Sunday.

RACE 8 - (F) Md $25k - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Marymoor Park (ML 9-2)
# 3 Crown Kitten (ML 5-2)
# 4 Carnaby Cat (ML 10-1)

B's

# 2 A Brides Song (ML 10-1)
# 5 Amers (ML 3-1)
# 6 Causeway's Girl (ML 5-1)
# 7 Shahali Shari (ML 4-1)

C's

None

These are all juvenile fillies, and they are all first time starters.  The "A" Selections are those who have sires whose progeny tend to do well at first asking, as well as coming from barns whose debut runners have not infrequent success.  The "B" Selections are the rest of the field.  Since all seven of these fillies are being offered for sale without having ever once competed, it's fair to presume that none of them are considered world beaters by their connections; so I will be playing this leg as such, with the belief that anyone of them could emerge as Sunday's winner.

RACE 9 - Alw 12500s - Five Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 8 Percy's Bluff (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Johnny Reb (ML 3-1)
# 6 Gloria's Angelo (ML 12-1)
# 7 Soap Box (ML 9-2)

Scratch # 4 Thirty Pepperonis (ML 8-1); # 9 Van Lingle Mungo (ML 12-1); and # 10 Private Joke (ML 10-1);  but don't bring in the Also Eligibles, # 11 Juansagain (ML 5-2) and # 12 Lucky Cotton (ML 20-1), as they are scratched as well.

Note for future reference that, unlike many Starter Allowances run in California, this event has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any runner that has started for a claiming price of $12.5k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Percy's Bluff, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, has won nine of his last eleven contests, and has finished in the Trifecta in each of his last sixteen tries.  Johnny Reb has finished in the Trifecta in each of his last two contests, both against classier competition.  Gloria's Angelo and Soap Box should be prominent early, and either could be difficult to run down should they break loose from the pack.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 3,5 with 10 with 1,3,4 with 8 $6.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 2,3,4,5 with 1,7,10 with ALL with 8 $42.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,6 with 10 with 1,3,4 with 8 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 3,5 with 5,6,9 with 1,3,4 with 8 $9.00
$0.50 P4: 3,5 with 10 with 1,3,4 with 1,6,7 $9.00

Total: $69.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 7:21 EDT / 4:21 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/2/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 1 Spring Heat (Final Odds 16.90) - No Selection
Race 7 - # 1 Midvale Magic (2.40) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 3 Force (Ire) (2.60) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 7 Pop Fizz Clink (1.30*) - "B" Selection

First round knockouts are never any fun; but not having the highest priced runner in the opening leg field on any of my tickets is a forgivable sin; at least in my book.  God bless you if you were smart enough to include Spring Heat in you play prior to the running, because I'm having a difficult time making a case for her even with the race long since over.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  1 / 1 / 3 / 7  were rewarded with a payout of $606.20 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

9/2/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Saturday kicks off Labor Day Weekend in the USA, and that's pretty much all I have by way of introduction.  So let's just get to it, as I take another run at at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $25k - Five Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 No More Twinkies (Morning Line 2-1)
# 7 Look Quickly (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 2 Elle Woods Too (ML 4-1)
# 4 Our Favorite City (ML 12-1)

No More Twinkies and Look Quickly were separated by less than a length at the wire when they filled out the Exacta at this class level over this turf course back in May.  Elle Woods Too could be the speed of the speed here; but the lifetime oh-for-seven record on the grass is a concern.  Our Favorite City could move up in this, her turf debut.

RACE 7 - Clm $12.5k N2X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Midvale Magic (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 3 Crawford's Glove (ML 5-2)
# 5 Tribal Again (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 6 Weyand (ML 2-1)

My Past Performances tell me that this is officially an N2L (non-winners of two lifetime); but a read of the conditions make it clear that it's actually an N2X (non-winners of two lifetime other than etc., etc.).  Note that all entrants in this field have two or more lifetime wins.

Midvale Magic defeated a next out winner last time out on the dirt at Sacramento, and seems to be well placed for a repeat victory.  Crawford's Glove was a winner the last time that he competed over this main track.  Tribal Again could be the one running best late.

RACE 8 - OC $62.5k/N2X - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 A Red Tie Day (ML 9-5)
# 6 Anythingscookin (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 1 Goodwood Mirage (Ire) (ML 8-1)
# 3 Force (Ire) (ML 5-2)

A Red Tie Day could improve going second off the layoff for Trainer Richard Baltas, who tends to do well with such.  Anythingscookin was a winner at this class level two starts back, albeit on the dirt at Sacramento.

Goodwood Mirage (Ire) could improve with the reduction in real estate.  Force (Ire) tends to do well when he ships in from downstate.

RACE 9 - (F) Clm $8k B - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Tizfit (ML 7-2)

B's

# 5 Ballerina Headline (ML 2-1)
# 7 Pop Fizz Clink (ML 9-5)

C's

# 2 Dizzy Tizzy (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 3 Handful of Pearls (ML 15-1)

This contest is restricted to fillies and mares which have either:

1) Not won a race since June 1, 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a runner has fewer than four career Wins, she's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come since the end of May (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $6.25k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, # 1 It Girl (ML 12-1), # 5 Ballerina Headline (ML 2-1), and # 6 Naughty Haughty (15-1) are the three runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

Tizfit was victorious each of the last three times that she competed over this main track.  Ballerina Headline, ambitiously placed last time out, returns to a more realistic class level.  Pop Fizz Clink fits well here on class, though she seems to settle for too many minor awards.  Dizzy Tizzy could improve with the return to the synthetic surface.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:
