1/29/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 6 Silver Beauty (Final Odds 10.20) - "C" Selection
Race 5 - # 1 Bronzino (Fr) (1.80*) - "C" Selection
Race 6 - # 8 Tiz Buff (28.50) - No Selection
Race 7 - # 1 Simply Charming (15.40) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 7 Mi Bouchon (7.80) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 7 Cherokee in Me (2.90*) - "A" Selection

We used half the field in Race 7 and still managed to miss the winner; worse still, we used three quarters of the field in Race 6 and had no part of the winner in that one either.  Needless to say, not a great day of handicapping on our part; thus making Sunday a day for us to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  6 / 1 / 8 / 1 / 7 / 7  were non-existent.  Nobody had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence today.  Those who correctly picked five out of six were rewarded with a payout of $10 454.90 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

1/29/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

It's the final Sunday in January, and that's all I've got by way of introduction.  So let's get to it, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - (F) Md $8k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Hay Dolly (Morning Line 6-1)

B's

# 3 She's Pretty Windy (ML 2-1)

C's

# 4 Hellacious Hadlee (ML 8-5)
# 6 Silver Beauty (ML 15-1)

I made Hay Dolly my "A" Selection here because I don't trust either of the top two Morning Line Selections to make it around two turns.  I give She's Pretty Windy the benefit of the doubt with the class drop; but Hellacious Hadlee has stopped both times that she's gone beyond six furlongs.  Silver Beauty has proven that she can make the distance, and she may upset; but Silver Beauty has finished behind Hay Dolly enough times that I think that we're best served making her a "C" Selection.

RACE 5 - Alw 40000s N2X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Village Kitten (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 4 Eddie and the King (ML 12-1)

C's

# 1 Bronzino (Fr) (ML 8-5)
# 3 John Paul's Bet (ML 3-1)

# 7 Tacola (ML 10-1)

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career but with an exception (N2X) as runners get a pass for having one win against winners, provided that it was for $16k or less.  So in this contest five entrants have two lifetime wins; # 2 Journey to Run (ML 10-1) and # 7 Tacola (ML 10-1) are the two in this field with just one career victory.

Village Kitten took the Place at this class level last time out.  There appears to be more than enough early speed here for Village Kitten to close into.  Eddie and the King is another that could be running well late.

Bronzino (Fr) ships in from downstate, going first off the claim for Trainer Doug O'Neill, who tends to do well with such.  John Paul's Best could move up stretching out to two turns for the first time.  Tacola took the Place at this class level two starts back.

RACE 6 - Md $25k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Sheer Prince (ML 12-1)
# 2 Atticism (ML 9-2)

# 5 Pick One (ML 7-5)

B's

# 6 I'mrockingthislife (ML 6-1)

C's

# 4 Meet the Truth (ML 8-1)
# 7 Pete and Jack (ML 4-1)

Sheer Prince and Atticism are first time starters conditioned by trainers (Blaine Wright and Ed Moger Jr, respectively) who tend to do well when sending out debut runners.  Pick One goes first off the claim for Trainer Bob Hess, Sr, who tends to do well with such.

I'mrockingthislife took the Place at this class level last time out.  Meet the Truth showed good early speed last time out.  Pete and Jack is another first time starter that could be ready to roll.

RACE 7 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Spot N the Line (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 3 Semper Gumby (ML 3-1)
# 8 Say Neigh (ML 10-1)

C's

# 6 Knust (ML 5-2)

Spot N the Line took the Place at this class level last time out.  Semper Gumby gets some class relief while going first time for the barn of Trainer Steve Sherman.  Say Neigh took the Show at this class level last time out, his last time racing around just one turn.  Knust has proven that he fits at this class level, though it seems that he's willing to settle for too many minor awards.

RACE 8 - ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 5 Pulmarack (ML 4-1)

B's

# 7 Mi Bouchon (ML 12-1)

C's

# 1 Logan's Moon (ML 8-1)
# 3 Sir Vronski (ML 8-1)
# 4 Brownie Finale (ML 9-2)

Pulmarack took the Show at this class level for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer last time out.  Mi Bouchon faces winners for the first time after winning his debut last time out.  Note that Mi Bouchon's trainer, Bill Delia, tends to do well when placing his last out winners.

Logan's Moon has shown an affinity for the synthetic surface since shipping in from downstate.  Sir Vronski and Brownie Finale are both horses for the course, though their best efforts have come primarily against weaker competition.

RACE 9 - (F) Clm $20k N2X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Cherokee in Me (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 4 Silver Spectacle (ML 8-1)
# 5 Bow Tie Belle (ML 12-1)

C's

# 2 Letmetakeaselfie (ML 6-1)
# 3 Loves the Crowd (ML 3-1)

# 9 Pretty Emma (ML 5-1)

Cherokee in Me won at this class level last time out, with Silver Spectacle crossing under the wire less than a length behind her.  Bow Tie Belle gets some significant class relief here.

Letmetakeaselfie drops down the class ladder into this one; but Letmetakeaselfie seems to prefer the turf over the plastic.  Loves the Crowd is another that fits well here on class, but may prefer running over the grass.  Pretty Emma won by as many as she wanted over this main track last time out at today's distance, albeit against cheaper stock for different connections.

OK, that's the analysis.  While this is a jackpot wager, we won't be putting all our selections on one ticket.  While we still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of our lives, budgetary constraints must be respected.  I think it's also safe to presume that our "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket, so we should be safe in pressing those up.  So with that, playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 7 with 5 with 1,2,5 with 5 with 5 with 7 $3.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 3,7 with 4,5 with 1,2,5,6 with 3,5,8 with 5,7 with 4,5,7 $57.60

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 4,6 with 5 with 1,2,5 with 5 with 5 with 7 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 7 with 1,3,7 with 1,2,5 with 5 with 5 with 7 $1.80
$0.20 P6: 7 with 5 with 4,7 with 5 with 5 with 7 $0.40
$0.20 P6: 7 with 5 with 1,2,5 with 6 with 5 with 7 $0.60
$0.20 P6: 7 with 5 with 1,2,5 with 5 with 1,3,4 with 7 $1.80
$0.20 P6: 7 with 5 with 1,2,5 with 5 with 5 with 2,3,9 $1.80

Total: $68.20

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:14 EDT / 2:14 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/28/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 2 Thirty Pepperonis (Final Odds 2.20) - "C" Selection
Race 5 - # 1 Positive Outcome (1.70) - "A" Selection
Race 6 - # 4 Pure Comedy (14.10) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 1 River of Champagne (0.50*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 5 Emmy and I (4.00) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 2 Perfect Come Back (2.70*) - "C" Selection*

* - While Perfect Come Back was not on our tickets for Race 9, Perfect Come Back was the Post Time Favorite, and therefore replaced # 4 Passed by Paul when Passed by Paul became a gate scratch.

We made some good calls in our play Saturday; we got our big ticket single, River of Champagne, home in the fourth leg; and the leg where we punched the "ALL" button was won by the largest price in that field, as well as the largest price in the sequence.  We even had all the winners on our tickets.  However, we didn't have all the winners on any one ticket, which is ultimately all that matters; and for that reason, Saturday was a day for us to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  2 / 1 / 4 / 1 / 5 / 2  were rewarded with a payout of $1,609.62 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

1/28/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

Arrogate and California Chrome, the two best horses currently in training, are having their Breeders' Cup rematch Saturday at Gulfstream Park, as part of a monster card centered around the inaugural running of The Pegasus World Cup.  Meanwhile, Santa Anita, where the rain has finally stopped and the sunshine has returned, is having, appropriately enough, their version of The Sunshine Millions, with several California Cup Stakes.

So with all that, why are we playing Golden Gate, where two thirds of the Pick Six sequence is for lifetime non-winners of one? Well, my thinking is that last week playing Golden Gate we found ourselves on the side of Providence; so why not see if we can find ourselves there once again.  So for this weekend our action will be in Northern California, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - Md $8k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Italian Fling (Morning Line 7-5)

B's

# 5 Cosmo's Sunset (ML 7-2)

C's

# 2 Thirty Pepperonis (ML 2-1)

Scratch # 3 Money Mine (ML 15-1)

Races 4 and 7 are two divisions of the same contest, both carded for three year olds.  Italian Fling should improve with the increase in real estate.  Italian Fling will almost definitely be leading the field early, and quite probably late.

Cosmo's Sunset flashed some early speed in his debut last time out.  Thirty Pepperonis ships in from down state and should benefit from the class relief; provided, of course, that he takes to the surface.

RACE 5 - Md $8k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Positive Outcome (ML 2-1)
# 4 Hopesky (ML 9-5)

B's

None

C's

# 3 Starting Lineup (ML 3-1)
# 5 Mookie's Wish (ML 6-1)

Positive Outcome and Hopesky each disappointed at this class level (in separate contests) as the Post Time Favorite; however, it's fair to say of each that they both needed their respective last race.  Likewise for Mookie's Wish, who took the Place last time out against cheaper stock in his first contest after a year and a half vacation.  Starting Lineup fits well with these on class, though it appears that Starting Lineup is better suited to shorter distances.

RACE 6 - OC 62k/N2X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Mal Verde (ML 5-2)
# 5 Allaboutaction (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 2 Top Pirana (ML 2-1)
# 3 Hypnatique (ML 8-1
# 4 Pure Comedy (ML 12-1)
# 6 Awesome Silver (ML 3-1)

C's

None

The entire field of six for this contest comes out of the same last race, where five of them were within a length of each other as they crossed under the wire.  Mal Verde and Allaboutaction seem to me to be the ones most likely to move forward off that effort; but, really, this is a group of runners that seem to just enjoy taking turns beating each other.

RACE 7 - Md $8k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 River of Champagne (ML 1-1)

B's

None

C's

# 4 Loma Cat (ML 5-2)
# 5 Hubel Heights (ML 20-1)
# 7 Sierra Sierra (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 2 Chatty Carl (ML 10-1)

Races 4 and 7 are two divisions of the same contest, both carded for three year olds.  River of Champagne disappointed as the Post Time Favorite at this class level last time out, when he had to settle for the Place, a little over two lengths in front of Show horse Loma Cat.

Hubel Heights is a first time starter by Swiss Yodeler, whose progeny tend to do reasonably well at first asking.  Sierra Sierra flashed brief early foot in his debut last time out.

RACE 8 - (F) ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 4 Redneck Girl (ML 8-1)
# 7 Matter of Luck (ML 6-1)

B's

# 3 Breakaway Dixie (ML 8-1)

C's

# 2 Kelly (ML 8-1)
# 5 Emmy and I (ML 5-1)
# 8 Run for Retts (ML 7-2)
# 9 Meet Miss Kitty (ML 4-1)

Redneck Girl won at this class level last time out; thanks to being a California bred, she gets to compete under these conditions again, though she has to carry some extra weight.  Matter of Luck returns after a bit of a freshening; Matter of Luck seems to do well when she has a chance to get some rest.

Breakaway Dixie took the Show at this class level last time out.  Kelly moves up in class after winning for the third time in her last five starts.  Emmy and I fits at this class level, but seems to have become camera shy.

Run for Retts ships in from downstate to try the synthetic surface for the first time (though she did work over this main track back on the 22nd).  Meet Miss Kitty has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of her last three starts.

RACE 9 - MSW - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 White Falcon (ML 5-1)

B's

# 1 Gallant Heat (ML 9-2)
# 8 Iz Invincible (ML 4-1)

C's

# 4 Passed by Paul (ML 3-1)
# 5 Whisky N Roses (ML 6-1)
# 9 Pambled (ML 8-1)

White Falcon has finished in the Trifecta at this class level since entering into two turn racing.  Gallant Heat took the Place at this class level two starts back, and could be speed on the rail.  Iz Invincible took the Show at this class level last time out.

Passed by Paul ships in from downstate for Trainer Doug O'Neill, who has been having success doing that with runners of late.  Whisky N Roses tries the synthetic track for the first time.  Pambled took the Show at this class level in his debut last time out, albeit while going around just one turn.

$1.00 P6: 4 with 1,4 with 1,5 with 1 with 4,7 with 7 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 4,5 with 1,4 with ALL with 1 with 3,4,7 with 1,7,8 $43.20

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 2 with 1,4 with 1,5 with 1 with 4,7 with 7 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 4 with 3,5 with 1,5 with 1 with 4,7 with 7 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 4 with 1,4 with 1,5 with 4,5,7 with 4,7 with 7 $4.80
$0.20 P6: 4 with 1,4 with 1,5 with 1 with 2,5,8,9 with 7 $3.20
$0.20 P6: 4 with 1,4 with 1,5 with 1 with 4,7 with 4,5,9 $4.80

Total: $67.20

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:08 EDT / 2:08 PDT.  Good luck to all.

1/22/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 6 Kronwall (Final Odds 3.10) - "B" Selection
Race 5 - # 4 Maz Kanata (0.80*) - "A" Selection
Race 6 - # 4 Call My Bluff (1.70*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 8 Stormy Endeavor (0.50*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 1 Rye Patch (4.20) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 3 An Khe Pass (7.50) - "B" Selection

Two of the three winning Post Time Favorites were singles on our big ticket, which helps make up for the fact that we had to use half the field in leg three in order to get that third Post Time Favorite home.  And apologies for not being able to provide the Will Pays for the other runners to which we were alive in the nightcap, as such were not available online (at least, not at any of the locations that I checked).

But the above are just minor quibbles.  The most important thing is that we got our money back from yesterday with interest.  Mission Accomplished!

The correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  6 / 4 / 4 / 8 / 1 / 3  paid $344.84 for a twenty cent wager.  That makes for a profit of $290.84 on our $54 investment, or approximate odds of 5.386-1.

I hope you all had it with me.  May God bless us as we spend our winnings.

Onto the next race!

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/22/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

Well of course we're playing Golden Gate again today; we have to try to get our money back from yesterday!  ðŸ˜Ž So with that let's get to it, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - Clm $6.25k B - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Cap Ferrat (Morning Line 4-1)
# 4 One More Roll (ML 9-5)

B's

# 6 Kronwall (ML 5-2)

C's

None

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since November 1, 2016; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a horse has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, than none of those Wins could have been since 11/1/2016 in order for the horse to be entered here.  For the record, Condiment and Cap Ferrat are the only two runners here that have four or more career victories.

Cap Ferrat gets some class relief after failing as the Post Time Favorite against more expensive stock in three of his last four contests.  One More Roll fits the same pattern, having failed as the Post Time Favorite against more expensive in two of his last three races.  Kronwall moves up in price after taking the Place last time out; but that contest featured open (non-conditioned) claimers, so I would say that this is at worst a lateral move on the class ladder for Kronwall.

RACE 5 - (F) Clm $12.5k N2L - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Maz Kanata (ML 9-5)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Happy Issue (ML 9-2)
# 2 Cheers to You (ML 7-2)

Scratch # 6 Lucky N Rich (ML 2-1)

Note for the record that I added the N2L to reflect the actual records of entrants.  I don't know if that was a part of the actual conditions and simply left off when the Past Performances were printed; but each of the runners in this field of three year old fillies has exactly one career victory.

With the scratch of Lucky N Rich, Maz Kantana should have things all her own way in the early going, and probably right up to and past the wire.  If Maz Kantana is to be caught late, Happy Issue and Cheers to You appear to be the ones most likely to be running best at the end.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $4k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Call My Bluff (ML 3-1)

B's

# 3 Sexy Code (ML 8-1)
# 6 Esperanza's Mobile (ML 6-1)
# 8 She'll Get'er Done (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 5 Skeeter Davis (No Line)

Call My Bluff missed by less than a length at this class level last time out.  Sexy Code finished much closer to the rear in that same contest, but Sexy Code was the victim of a very rough ride.

Esperanza's Mobile appears to be still working her way back from an extended layoff; but despite this not being her ideal distance, Esperanza's Mobile's back class makes her a threat to upset the field here.  She'll Get're Done may move up going second off the layoff.

RACE 7 - (F) Md $12.5k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 8 Stormy Endeavor (ML 6-5)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Lady Chardonnay (ML 12-1)
# 3 Keihl Crissia (ML 8-1)
# 5 Cocktail Lady (ML 15-1)

# 7 Mean Like My Momma (ML 20-1)
# 9 Seneca Sally (ML 10-1)

Stormy Endeavor returns to one turn racing on the synthetic, where she has twice taken the Place against more expensive stock.  Keihl Crissia made a nice move forward last time out with the class drop and the addition of blinkers; perhaps Keihl Crissia can move forward off that effort.

Lady Chardonnay, Cocktail Lady, and Mean Like My Momma are the three first time starters in this field.  Seneca Sally puts the blinkers back on after competing in her last four races without them.  There doesn't appear to be much early speed here; so if one of these four should show some early foot and break free from the pack, they just might steal this on one the front end.

RACE 8 - OC 62k/N2X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Rye Patch (ML 3-1)
# 7 Unusual Taste (ML 7-2)
# 8 Unusually Green (ML 10-1)

B’s

# 9 Pepper Crown (ML 20-1)

C's

# 2 Goodwood Mirage (Ire) (ML 6-1)
# 4 Its Allabout Jerry (ML 4-1)
# 6 Docs Legacy (Ire) (ML 10-1)

Rye Patch goes first off the claim for Trainer Doug O'Neill, who tends to do well with such.  Unusual Taste took the Place at this class level last time out, albeit on the grass.  Unusually Green finished well back in that contest; but Unusually Green should improve with the move to the main track, having won at this class level over this surface back in November.  Pepper Crown is another that could improve with the return to the main track.

Goodwill Mirage (Ire) and Docs Legacy (Ire), both trained by Manuel Badilla, fit well at this class level.  Its Allabout Jerry ships in from up north to try the synthetic for the first time.  If Its Allabout Jerry takes to the surface, then he'll be right in the mix here.

RACE 9 - MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Call the Boss (ML 8-5)

B's

# 3 An Khe Pass (ML 6-1)
# 4 Captain Ron (ML 3-1)
# 5 Caliente Shuffle (ML 15-1)

C's

None

Call the Boss took the Place over this main track last time out.  An Khe Pass returns from an extended layoff for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.  An Khe Pass showed good early speed at this class level last time out.

Captain Ron, a first time starter for Trainer Doug O'Neill, shows a steady work pattern in preparation for this contest.  Caliente Shuffle showed good early speed in his debut last time out.

$1.00 P6: 2,4 with 4 with 4 with 8 with 1,7,8 with 1 $6.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 2,4,6 with 4 with 3,4,6,8 with 8 with 1,7,8,9 with 1,3,4,5 $38.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 1,2 with 4 with 8 with 1,7,8 with 1 $2.40
$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 4 with 4 with 1,3,5,7,9 with 1,7,8 with 1 $6.00
$0.20 P6: 2,4 with 4 with 4 with 8 with 2,4,6 with 1 $1.20

Total: $54.00

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:14 EDT / 2:14 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/21/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 3 Black Sheared Anvil (Final Odds 1.00*) - "C" Selection
Race 5 - # 2 Trelawny (3.80) - "C" Selection
Race 6 - # 1 Makaha Heat (0.80*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 7 Anyportinastorm (1.50*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - The California Derby - # 4 So Conflated (3.10) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 4 I'm Tough (4.00) - "C" Selection

We played against the Favorite in the opening leg, leaving Black Sheared Anvil off our big ticket, only to see him win by daylight; so that when our "A" Selection in the next leg, # 7 Himalaya Star (3.20), tired before the wire, we found ourselves without any live tickets.  Overall, it was not one of our better days, as we only got two of our big ticket selections home, and those two were both Post Time Favorites.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  3 / 2 / 1 / 7 / 4 / 4  were rewarded with a payout of $612.96 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/21/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

It seems that there's just no escaping the rain this weekend; so with that in mind, I decided to play the track upstate, as I figure the wet weather will not affect the card as much as it will in Arcadia.  Besides, we'll have plenty of company from the SoCal circuit, as more than a few connections have made the trip north to be a part of the California Derby card.  So with that let's get to it, as we take a run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - Md $5k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Blazing Image (Morning Line 2-1)

B's

# 4 Global Event (ML 5-1)
# 5 Forever the Chief (ML 3-1)

C's

# 3 Back Sheared Anvil (ML 8-5)

Blazing Image took the Place against more expensive stock last time out, and took the Show at this class level two starts back.  Global Event drops in for the cheapest price tag of his career.  Global Event also had a sharp work over this track last Thursday.

Forever the Chief took the Show against more expensive two starts back, albeit for different connections.  Black Sheared Anvil could be the one running best late.

RACE 5 - Clm $3.2k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Himalaya Star (ML 9-5)

B’s

# 6 Sokudo (ML 7-2)

C's

# 2 Trelawny (ML 3-1)

Scratch # 1 Six Votes (ML 15-1)

Himalaya Star makes what is basically a lateral move after his victory last time out; for while Himalaya Star is in for a lesser price, this contest is for open, rather than conditioned, claimers.  There was a temptation to make Himalaya Star a single here; but there is a concern that he may need a race coming off the nearly four month layoff.

Sokudo ran out of gas on the lead last time out.  I expect Sokudo's early speed to carry him further today.  Trelawny probably needed that last race off the layoff; toss that effort and Trelawny fits well with the contenders here.

RACE 6 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Makaha Heat (ML 9-5)

B’s

# 5 Tiz Deliteful (ML 5-2)

C's

# 2 Chocolate Goddess (ML 6-1)

Makaha Heat, Tiz Deliteful, and Chocolate Goddess filled out the Trifecta the last time out for each at this class level, and it looks as if they could do likewise today.  Note that Makaha Heat, despite winning at this level last time out, is not in for a tag today, getting what amounts to a pass thanks to her being a California bred.

RACE 7 - MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 J C's Nightcap (ML 5-2)
# 7 Anyportinastorm (ML 9-5)

B's

None

C's

# 2 Raindance Rules (ML 15-1)
# 3 Into Kings (ML 3-1)

J C's Nightcap missed graduation by less than a length at this class level last time out.  Anyportinastorm took the Place on the grass at this class level in his debut last time out.

Raindance Rules looked like he was learning how to rate last time out.  Into Kings is a first time starter for Trainer Doug O'Neill.  Into King's pedigree suggests that he may do well on the plastic.

RACE 8 - The California Derby $100k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Vending Machine (ML 2-1)

B's

# 3 More Power to Him (ML 6-1)
# 6 Colonel Samsen (ML 9-2)

C's

# 7 Secret House (ML 3-1)

Scratch # 8 Aberdeen Island (ML 20-1)

Vending Machine, trained by Peter Miller, ships in from downstate after winning The Eddie Logan on the turf last time out.  More Power to Him has two Wins in three tries since moving to two turn racing.  Colonel Samsen is the only entrant in this field with a stakes victory on a synthetic surface.  Secret House, trained by Doug O'Neill, could get a nice trip pressing Vending Machine early.

RACE 9 - (F) MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 White Rock Lake (ML 3-1)
# 2 Gust (ML 5-2)

B's

# 3 C J's Dream (ML 5-1)
# 6 Chapter Ten (ML 9-2)

C's

# 4 I'm Tough (ML 10-1)
# 5 Hawk's Journey (ML 8-1)
# 7 Exciting Dixie (ML 20-1)

# 8 Nothin But a Smile (ML 6-1)

White Rock Lake took the Show at this class level last time out, and could move up with the return to one turn racing.  Gust ships in from downstate, going first off the claim for Trainer Richard Baltas, who tends to do well with such.  C J's Dream missed graduation by just a head at this class level two starts back.

Chapter Ten took the Show at this class level last time out.  I'm Tough and Exciting Dixie are a pair of first time starters by trainers (Rene Amescua and Ricardo Perez, respectively) who have been known to get high priced debuters home.

Hawk's Journey could move up with the return to one turn racing.  Nothin But a Smile goes first time for Trainer Steve Miyadi, who tends to do well with such.

$1.00 P6: 2 with 7 with 1 with 4,7 with 5 with 1,2 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 2,4,5 with 6,7 with 1,5 with 4,7 with 3,5,6 with 1,2,3,6 $57.60

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 3 with 7 with 1 with 4,7 with 5 with 1,2 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 1 with 4,7 with 5 with 1,2 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 7 with 2 with 4,7 with 5 with 1,2 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 7 with 1 with 2,3 with 5 with 1,2 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 7 with 1 with 4,7 with 7 with 1,2 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 7 with 1 with 4,7 with 5 with 4,5,7,8 $1.60

Total: $67.20

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:15 EDT / 2:15 PDT.  Good luck to all.

1/16/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - The Megahertz - # 2 Prize Exhibit (GB) (Final Odds 3.40) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 9 Singleforareason (2.90) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 9 Ipray (1.80*) - No Selection
Race 10 - # 7 Swinging Star (12.90) - No Selection

Not one of our better days of handicapping.  Our single in the opening leg, # 6 Tiz a Kiss (2.10*), was the last runner to cross under the wire in the Grade 3 Megahertz.  We used more than half the field in the third leg, and we not only missed the winner, but we missed the Place finisher as well.  Likewise for the nightcap, where we had no part of either half of the Exacta.  Not much to say after a day like that except:

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  2 / 9 / 9 / 7  were rewarded with a payout of $533.95 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/16/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

“Intelligence plus character; that is the goal of true education.” - Martin Luther King Jr.

And so we come to the final day of our holiday weekend, and Monday's card finds us gifted with the featured race as one of the final four contests on the program.  We'll be looking at that event, the Grade 3 Megahertz, below, as we take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 7 - (F) The Megahertz (Grade 3) - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 6 Tiz a Kiss (Morning Line 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Do the Dance (ML 6-1)
# 2 Prize Exhibit (GB) (ML 5-2)
# 5 Kenriya (Fr) (ML 5-1)
# 7 Into The Mystic (Ire) (ML 7-2)

Tiz a Kiss took the Place in the Grade 2 Goldikova over this turf course two starts back.  Do the Dance enters this contest with a two race winning streak, albeit against lesser company.  Do the Dance's best chance seems to be to sprint out on the rail and try to steal this one on the front end.

Prize Exhibit (GB) holds a huge class edge over most of this field, but it's been quite some time since she's shown her best form.  Kenriya (Fr) and Into The Mystic (Ire) have both won multiple Allowance races in France, and both seem well meant for this contest.

RACE 8 - (F) Md $40k - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Aura Rose (ML 4-1)

B's

# 7 Sly Humor (ML 7-2)
# 9 Singleforareason (ML 3-1)

C's

# 6 Her Big Moment (ML 20-1)
# 8 Fried Egg (ML 20-1)
# 11 Munny Spunt (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 1 Tattooed Kitty (No Line)

Aura Rose took the Place against more expensive stock two starts back.  Sly Humor moves a step up the class ladder after taking the Place last time out, finishing well in front of the Show horse in that contest.

Singleforareason has shown good early speed in her three prior tries, all against non-claiming maidens.  Her Big Moment, Fried Egg, and Munny Spunt are a trio of fillies all dropping in for a tag for the first time.

RACE 9 - (F) Clm $8k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Sooner Time (ML 6-1)
# 4 Public House (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 1 Private Terrace (ML 8-1)
# 5 Frandontjudge (ML 4-1)
# 6 Papaslilprincess (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Public House and Sooner Time crossed the wire just a head apart last time out over this main track while filling out the Exacta against slightly more expensive.  Private Terrace filled out the Trifecta in that contest, as well as completing the Trifecta behind Papaslilprincess and Frandontjudge in the outing prior to that.  In my opinion you can throw a blanket over those five; I'm expecting them all to be close at the wire.

RACE 10 - MSW - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 8 Avalanche (ML 4-1)

B's

# 2 Kona Dreams (ML 7-2)
# 3 Kimbear (ML 4-1)
# 9 Calle Kingpin (ML 12-1)
# 12 Magical More (ML 20-1)
# 13 Cut (ML 5-1)

C's

# 11 Electro (ML 5-1)

Scratch # 10 Bourbonmademedoit (ML 20-1) and # 14 Eaglemaker (ML 8-1)

Avalanche missed graduation by less than a length in his debut charging down the hill at this class level two starts back.  Kona Dreams has twice finished in the Trifecta at this class level while showing good early speed routing on the flat turf course.  Kimbear has demonstrated the ability to lead ans to close in his brief four race career.

Calle Kingping took the Show at this class level last time out, albeit on the dirt.  However,  Calle Kingpin was sired by Street Boss, whose progeny tend to do well well trying the lawn for the first time.

Magical More is a first time starter sired by More Than Ready, whose progeny tend to do well at first asking.  Cut has shown good early foot in his two starts routing on the flat turf course.  Electro is a first time starter sired by Ghostzapper and trained by Bob Baffert.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6 with 5 with 3,4 with 8 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 6 with 5,7,9 with 1,3,4,5,6 with 2,3,8,9,12,13 $45.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,2,5,7 with 5 with 3,4 with 8 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 6,8,11 with 3,4 with 8 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 5 with 3,4 with 11 $1.00

Total: $55.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 5:59 EST / 2:59 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/15/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 6 Bronzino (Fr) (Final Odds 10.50) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 7 Perfect Cocktail (1.40*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 7 Above Board (3.00) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 10 Westbrook (3.70) - "C" Selection

Our decision to hit the "ALL" button in the opening leg was rewarded when the second-largest price in the field crossed the wire first; and our decision to leave the Morning Line Favorite in the second leg, # 1 Honor Maker (Final Odds 1.70), completely off our tickets proved to be exceptionally insightful.  But the second half of the sequence wasn't as kind to us as the first; for while we had both winners on our tickets, we didn't have either on the one ticket that mattered; and for that reason today was a day for us to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  6 / 7 / 7 / 10  were rewarded with a payout of $347.90 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/15/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Our Late Pick Four takes a step up the class ladder today; for while three of the final four races at Santa Anita Saturday were carded for maidens, seventy-five percent of Sunday's final four contests have been written for lifetime non-winners of two.  So with the conditions set let's get to it, as we take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Wrightwood (Morning Line 4-1)
# 7 Devils Triangle (ML 12-1)

B's

# 1 Oh Marvelous Me (ML 5-2)
# 2 Gone With It (ML 4-1)
# 4 Mimis Big Boy (ML 5-1)
# 5 Unbridled Rocket (ML 9-2)
# 6 Bronzino (Fr) (ML 9-2)

C's

None

We're punching the "ALL" button here as far as our big ticket goes; though this contest isn't really "competitive" in the normal usage of the word.  The problem here is that there are several in this field who should have multiple career victories but do not, primarily because, while they have the talent to lead the field, they simple refuse to be the one in front at the wire.

Chief among them is Wrightwood, who has won over $100k in his career primarily by filling our the Exactor and Trifecta; but there are others here, such as Gone With It and Unbridled Rocket, who have chosen the same career path, though without that much in earnings.  And runners that make a career out of filling out Exacta and Trifectas aren't a bad thing for their connections, who can keep using these N2L races like an ATM, taking home the minor awards without ever having to concern themselves with swimming in a deeper pool.

But such horses can be headaches for those of us trying to fill out multi-race tickets, especially should you find more than one in the same field; for while they all wish to hang at the wire, one of them is going to be the one that hangs the least, and finds himself getting his picture taken.  And that's how I see this contest.  If Wrightwood finds himself in the shadow of the wire accompanied by Gone With It and Unbridled Rocket, well one of them has to Win; but if the opposition near the end is one of the more lightly raced runners, like Oh Marvelous Me or Devils Triangle, look for the ones that haven't yet learned how to consistently lose to take the top prize.  So for that reason, it's everybody into the pool for this leg on our big ticket.

RACE 7 - (F) OC 32k N1X/Alw 40000s N2L - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 7 Perfect Cocktail (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 6 It's Not So Easy (ML 4-1)

C's

# 3 Rcatcanscat (ML 3-1)

Scratch # 4 Road Test (ML 8-1)

A bit of imaginative carding by the racing secretary of combining two conditions into one race.  For the record, these are all three year olds.  The Starter Allowance price (that is, the lowest claiming price a runner would have had to have been previously entered in order to qualify for entry here) goes up to $50k for California breds.  None here have more than one lifetime Win.  None in this field are in for a tag, excepting # 5 Lilac Street (ML 12-1); which, near as I can tell, is not because these conditions required her to be for sale, but rather because her connections have opted to allow others the option to purchase her today.

Perfect Cocktail finished in the Trifecta at this approximate class level two and three starts back, and can be forgiven for not being quick enough to handle one turn racing last time out.  It's Not So Easy took the Place at this approximate class level last time out.  Rcatcanscat could move up in her first try stretching out to two turns.

RACE 8 - Alw 40000s N2L - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Foolish to Deceive (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 6 Elegant Street (ML 2-1)

C's

# 5 Vodka Texted You (ML 4-1)
# 7 Above Board (ML 5-2)

Foolish to Deceive missed victory by less than a length at this class level last time out.  Elegant Street took a big step forward in his graduation last time out; the question is can he repeat that effort against winners?  Likewise to a lesser extent for Vodka Texted You, who is also trying winners for the first time.  Above Board could improve in this, his third go after a freshening; but it's a concern that Above Board hasn't finished better than sixth since being claimed away from the barn of Trainer Bob Baffert.

RACE 9 - Clm $50k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Spanish Hombre (ML 8-1)
# 5 Boldly True (ML 4-1)

B's

# 8 Iron Rob (ML 6-1)
# 9 Annie's Candy (ML 3-1)

C's

# 3 Basinca (ML 5-1)
# 10 Westbrook (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 2 G. A. Betting (ML 15-1) and # 6 Jes Jaa (ML 15-1)

Spanish Hombre took the Show against classier stock two starts back.  Boldly True took the Show at this class level two starts back.  Iron Rob is a listed stakes winner running for the first time with a price tag on his head.  Annie's Candy defeated classier stock last time out, albeit on the lawn.

Basinca goes first off the claim for Trainer Robertino Diodoro, who tends to do well with such.  Westbrook drops in for a tag for the first time in his career.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 3,7 with 7 with 4 with 4,5 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: ALL with 6,7 with 4,6 with 4,5,8,9 $56.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,7 with 3 with 4 with 4,5 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 3,7 with 7 with 5,7 with 4,5 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 3,7 with 7 with 4 with 3,10 $2.00

Total: $68.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 5:59 EST / 2:59 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/14/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 13 Mistressofthenight (Final Odds 4.40) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 4 Valiant Minister (1.10*) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 1 Tipo Duro (2.50) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 9 We Go Now (1.80) - "A" Selection

Our big ticket single, # 3 Crosscheck Carlos (0.80*), lost the head bob at the wire to Tipo Duro in the third leg of the sequence; and the length of Tipo Duro's nose was the difference between us trashing or cashing our tickets today.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  13 / 4 / 1 / 9  were rewarded with a payout of $130.90 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/14/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

The Grade 2 La Canada, which drew a field of Vale Dori plus four others, is Saturday's featured race at Santa Anita.  However, we won't be looking at that event; instead, we'll be examining the final four contests on the card, three of which have been written for lifetime non-winners of one.  So let's get to it, as we take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - (F) MSW - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

EDIT: THIS RACE HAS BEEN MOVED TO THE MAIN DIRT TRACK

A’s

# 1 Goseecal (Morning Line 6-1)
# 2 True Testament (ML 3-1)

B's

# 3 Ghostzapping (ML 8-1)
# 5 Another One (ML 4-1)
# 13 Mistressofthenight (ML 5-1)

C's

# 10 Beauty Divine (ML 15-1)
# 14 Salten Sapity (ML 4-1)

Scratch # 4 Diva La Mousse (ML 9-2); # 6 Arrowsphere (ML 12-1); # 7 Go Argento (ML 6-1); # 8 Majestic Vixen (ML 12-1); # 9 Of Note (ML 15-1); # 11 Fried Egg (ML 30-1); and # 12 Siberian Iris (Ire).

As I type this there's been no official announcement; but the large number of scratches leads me to believe that this contest will not be run on the downhill turf course; and based upon the large number of scratches in Race 1 (the only other contest carded for the grass Saturday) I'm going to presume that this one is going to be run over the main dirt track.  EDIT - And now it's official; this race will be run over the main dirt track.

Goseecal was within a length of the winner at the wire at this class level last time out.  Goseecal could benefit from the cutback in distance to one turn racing.  True Testament has taken the Place at this class level in three of her four lifetime starts, all at this class level.

Ghostzapping is a first time starter for trainer Phil D'Amato.  While Ghostzapping's works haven't been sparkling, they have been steady.  Another One ran well in her debut last time out once she figured out that there was a race going on and that she was in it.

Mistressofthenight took the Show at this class level in her only prior try going around just one turn.  Beauty Divine is a first time starter who's on the ticket because everyone else in this field is.  Salten Sapity has posted some good works over the off track here.  If the track hasn't dried out too much, Salten Sapity could move up today.

RACE 7 - MSW - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Lord Simba (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Street to Indy (ML 10-1)
# 4 Valiant Minister (ML 3-1)
# 6 Gato Dolce (ML 4-1)
# 7 Hitters Park (ML 3-1)

C's

# 2 Aces Wild (ML 6-1)
# 3 Southern Keys (ML 12-1)

Lord Simba, trained by Bob Baffert, has taken the Place at this class level in each of his two prior career starts.  Street to Indy took the Place at this class level the last time that he only had to go around one turn.  Valieant Minister is a first time starter with the identical owner and trainer as Lord Simba.

Gato Dolce took the Place at this class level last time out; though last time out was over a year ago.  Hitters Park is a first time starter out of a Defrere mare who seems to enjoy dropping winners.

Aces Wild is on the card because everyone else in this field is.  Southern Keys showed some late interest in his debut on the synthetic upstate last time out.  Southern Keys had a couple of sharp works over this main track last month.

RACE 8 - Clm $50k - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Crosscheck Carlos (ML 2-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Tipo Duro (ML 4-1)
# 4 The All Button (ML 5-2)

Crosscheck Carlos missed victory by just a neck against classier stock last time out, albeit on the turf.  Tipo Duro cuts returns to one turn racing as well as getting some class relief.  The All Button has finished in the Trifecta all three times that he has competed over this main track; but The All Button seems to be a needs-to-lead type; and I'm not so sure that The All Button is getting that early lead today.

RACE 9 - Md $30k - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Quiet Dude (ML 9-5)
# 9 We Go Now (ML 5-2)

B's

None

C's

# 4 Thirty Pepperonis (ML 8-1)
# 6 Soft Trip (ML 30-1)

Scratch # 5 Baroque (ML 4-1)

Quiet Dude took the Place at this class level last time out.  We Go Now missed graduation by less than a length at this class level last time out.

Thirty Pepperonis took the Show at this class level over this main track back in October.  Thirty Pepperonis could contend today if he can be enticed into getting involved in the early going.  Soft Trip could move up getting Lasix for the first time.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1,2 with 5 with 3 with 2,9 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2,3,5,13 with 1,4,5,6,7 with 3 with 2,9 $25.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 10,14 with 5 with 3 with 2,9 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 1,2 with 2,3 with 3 with 2,9 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 1,2 with 5 with 1,4 with 2,9 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 1,2 with 5 with 3 with 4,6 $2.00

Total: $41.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:00 EST / 3:00 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/8/17 Turf Paradise Pick Five - Results

Race 4 - # 9 Angelnaule (Final Odds 2.20) - "C" Selection
Race 5 - # 6 Carson's Start (58.20) - No Selection
Race 6 - # 7 Lookin Awesome (4.90) - No Selection
Race 7 - # 3 Profound Visionary (1.00*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 7 Velocita (2.30*) - "A" Selection

Excluding his turn at Quarter Horsing on December 3, Carson's Start had finished 8th, 6th, 8th, and 7th in his four most recent races prior to today, all at today's class level.  It's therefore understandable that we would overlook him when filling out our tickets.  It's somewhat more difficult to justify not using Lookin Awesome in our play, as Lookin Awesome had taken the Show in his most recent race prior to today, at today's class level; and finishing in the Trifecta at today's class level in their most recent start is an angle that we love to use.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Pick Five sequence of  9 / 6 / 7 / 3 / 7  were non-existent.  Nobody had the correct Pick Five sequence today, making for a carryover of $3,419 into Monday's Pick Five Pool.  Those who correctly picked four out of five were rewarded with a payout of $59.95 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/8/17 Turf Paradise Pick Five - Preview

I decided to give the surface at Santa Anita another day to dry out; and, based upon the defections from Sunday's Grade 2 Santa Ynez (among them Noted and Quoted) it appears that I'm not the only one with serious concerns regarding how that track will play.  So with that, let's keep our action in Phoenix, as we take another run at The Pick Five at Turf Paradise.

RACE 4 - (F) Md $5k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 7 Daddy Please (Morning Line 3-1)

B's

None

C's

# 2 Flashy Gold (ML 9-2)
# 9 Angelnaule (ML 5-2)

Daddy Please ships in from SoCal to make her first start for Owner/Trainer Val Brienkerhoff, who tends to do well with such.  Flashy Gold has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of her last two starts.  Angelnaule drops in class while stretching out to two turns on the main track for the first time.

RACE 5 - Clm $3k N2Y - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Five Star Bert (ML 3-1)
# 3 Hush My Mouth (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 1 Another Bumper (ML 20-1)
# 7 Zoe's Cajun (ML 6-1)
# 9 Airborne Mark (ML 5-2)
# 11 Anillo (ML 7-2)

C's

# 8 Mr Red R (ML 12-1)

The cutoff date to qualify for this contest is July 8, 2016.  So as long as you haven't won two races since July 8, 2016 (excepting claiming races for $2.5k or less; they don't count, so you could've won as many of those as you wanted) you're good to go.

Five Star Bert took the Show at this class level last time out, disappointing as the Post Time Favorite.  Hush My Mouth made a nice move forward last time out, and Trainer Stetson Rushton tends to do well when placing his last out winners.

Another Bumper and Zoe's Cajun took the Place and Show (respectively) at this class level over this main track last month.  Airborne Mark moves up in class after winning by as many as he wanted last time out.  Anillo took the Show at this class level last time out, and beat Airborne Mark to the wire by three lengths two starts back.  Mr Red R could improve going second off the layoff.

RACE 6 - Clm $3.5k N3L - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Awesome Addback (ML 5-2)

B's

# 6 Tavern Law (ML 4-1)
# 10 Grand Sunset (ML 3-1)

C's

# 8 Roll Westward (ML 20-1)
# 9 Significat (ML 5-1)

Awesome Addback moves up in class after winning by daylight for Trainer Robertino Diodoro last time out.  Tavern Law and Grand Sunset dead heated for the Place at this class level last time out.

Roll Westward could have things all his own way during the early stages of this contest.  Significat may or may not have been injured last time out.   If Significat is in his usual form, then he fits well with the contenders here.

RACE 7 - Clm $3k B - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Profound Visionary (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 6 Joint Tenant (ML 7-2)
# 7 My T Quick (ML 8-1)

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since July 8, 2016; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

Excepting claiming races for $2.5k or less; they don't count.

So as long as a horse has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, than none of those Wins could have been since 7/8/2016 in order for the horse to be entered here.

Profound Visionary made a big move forward last time out in his first try over this main track for Trainer Robertino Diodoro.  Joint Tenant has taken the Place at this class level in each of his last three starts.  My T Quick gets some class relief, as well as a change in rider.

RACE 8 - (F) Clm $3k N1Y - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 7 Velocita (ML 8-1)

B’s

# 4 Sour Girl (ML 6-1)
# 5 No Slippahs (ML 6-1)
# 9 Surf Queen (ML 30-1)

C's

# 2 Lostinthismoment (ML 3-1)
# 3 Key Affair (ML 4-1)
# 8 Just After Sunset (ML 7-2)

Scratch # 11 Thunder Citation (ML 30-1)

The cutoff date to qualify for this contest is December 31, 2015.  So as long as you haven't won a race so far this year, and didn't win one last year (excepting claiming races for $2.5k or less; they don't count, so you could've won as many of those as you wanted) you're good to go.

Velocita could move up with the increase in distance.  Sour Girl took the Show at this class level last time out.  No Slippahs has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of her last two starts on the main track, and could be the one running best late.

Surf Queen could move forward with a decent trip.  Lostinthismoment has proven to be competitive at this class level.  Key Affair could be the early leader if she gets a good break.  Just After Sunset may be able to carry her early speed longer today.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

1/7/17 Turf Paradise Pick Five - Results

Race 4 - # 7 Blazonry's Song (Final Odds 6.30) - No Selection
Race 5 - # 1 Barn Party (2.60) - "B" Selection
Race 6 - # 3 Bullicious (1.70) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 8 Shrewd Move (2.70) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 9 Dance Floor Maniac (3.00*) - No Selection

We had the right idea in the opening leg, as we played against the odds-on Favorite, # 5 Inexcess Time (0.80*), by leaving him off our big ticket.  Unfortunately, we played against him with the wrong selections, as we had no part of the winner in that contest.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Pick Five sequence of  7 / 1 / 3 / 8 / 9  were rewarded with a payout of $1,069.70 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/7/17 Turf Paradise Pick Five - Preview

It's a big day of racing at Santa Anita Saturday, with three Graded Stakes.  Unfortunately, the rains have made a mess of the track, making playing the card in Arcadia unappealing (at least, to me).  So for that reason we're going to shift our Saturday action to the east; but not too far east, as we take a run at The Pick Five at Turf Paradise.

RACE 4 - Clm $4k - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Boozin Time (Morning Line 3-1)

B’s

# 8 No Ez Money (ML 6-1)

C's

# 4 Cozy Bar (ML 4-1)
# 5 Inexcess Time (ML 8-5)

Boozin Time was within a length of the winner at the wire at this class level last time out, and could benefit from the reduction in real estate.  No Ez Money has shown good early speed on the fake stuff in his last two races; that early speed should transfer well to a real dirt track.

Cozy Bar will be going for his third win in a row; and while he's in top form, it's fair to question how Cozy Bar will handle the stretchout combined with the move up in class.  Inexcess Time has disappointed as the Post Time Favorite in each of his last three races, and his form seems to be declining as he makes his way down the class ladder in search of victory.  Still, Inexcess Time cannot be totally dismissed, as a return to the form that he showed in the Fall would make him a top contender here.

RACE 5 - (F) Clm $5k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Wild Fibs (ML 9-5)

B’s

# 1 Barn Party (ML 5-2)

C's

# 6 Champion Risk (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 4 Copy Begone (ML 10-1)

Wild Fibs has finished in the Trifecta nine of the previous ten times that she has competed over this main track.  Barn Party was victorious at this class level last time out.  Champion Risk could move up on the class drop.

RACE 6 - (F) ALW N2L - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 3 Bullicious (ML 5-2)

B's

# 9 Don't Tell Judy (ML 2-1)

C's

# 5 Entitled Star (ML 3-1)
# 8 Formal Choice (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 6 Starry Cielo (ML 20-1) and # 7 Bottle Dance (ML 6-1)

Bullicious has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of her last two starts.  Don't Tell Judy tries winners for the first time after graduating by daylight last time out in her Turf Paradise debut.

Entitled Star could move forward in her return to one turn racing coupled with her first start on a Fast dirt track.  Formal Choice could improve in her second start off the freshening.

RACE 7 - ALW NC - Five Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 3 Rockin Home (ML 2-1)
# 4 Castletown (ML 3-1)

B's

None

C's

# 2 Alpine Luck (ML 5-2)
# 6 Mr Wild Kitty (ML 30-1)

# 8 Shrewd Move (ML 4-1)

Over at Turf Paradise's website it is noted that this contest is referred to as The Tom Metzen Classic Sprint Memorial.  It is named in honor of the late President of the Arizona Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA), who also served in a similar HBPA capacity at Canterbury Park.

Rockin Home has finished in the Exacta against stakes competition in each of his last two starts.  Castletown has won three of the four times that he has competed over this main track, and Trainer Robertino Diodoro tends to do well with runners returning from an extended vacation.

Alpine Luck, as trained by Diodoro, is a perfect three-for-three over this main track.  Mr Wild Kitty could be the one running best late.  Shrewd Move, shipping in from Kentucky, has done well in the past over this main track, and the sharp work on 12/17 suggests that he may be ready to do so again.

RACE 8 - Clm $6.25k - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Luz Atticus (ML 15-1)

B’s

# 4 Marv (ML 20-1)
# 5 Timber Faller (ML 15-1)
# 8 Northern Contract (ML 5-1)

C's

# 3 Compete Everyday (ML 6-1)
# 12 Corsa Di Cavalli (ML 9-2)

Scratch # 10 Coastal Breeze (ML 4-1)

Luz Atticus took the Show against more expensive two starts back.  Marv gets some much needed class relief.  Timber Faller was a winner against more expensive up at Emerald Downs the last time that he competed on real dirt.

Northern Contract was within a length of the winner at the wire against more expensive last time out; but the added real estate Northern Contract has to cover today is a concern.

Compete Everyday was a winner at this class level last time out, albeit on the grass.  Corsa Di Cavalli could move up in his second start off the layoff.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P5: 1 with 5 with 3 with 3,4 with 1 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P5: 1,8 with 1,5 with 3,9 with 3,4 with 1,4,5,8 $32.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P5: 4,5 with 5 with 3 with 3,4 with 1 $2.00
$0.50 P5: 1 with 6 with 3 with 3,4 with 1 $1.00
$0.50 P5: 1 with 5 with 5,8 with 3,4 with 1 $2.00
$0.50 P5: 1 with 5 with 3 with 2,6,8 with 1 $1.50
$0.50 P5: 1 with 5 with 3 with 3,4 with 3,12 $2.00

Total: $42.50

Post Time for Race 4 is 4:09 EST / 1:09 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

1/2/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 8 Jimmy the Juice (Final Odds 9.50) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 6 Matriculate (3.70) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 3 Gustnado (19.70) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 4 Tribal Again (11.40) - No Selection

Our big ticket managed to go oh-for-four, as we failed to get home a single "A" or "B" Selection Monday.  Well, if you're going to have a bad day, you might as well go all out; because miss one or miss 'em all, it's all the same to your bottom line.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  8 / 6 / 3 / 4  were rewarded with a payout of $9,994.55 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
