6/26/22 Woodbine Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - The Ballade - # 9 Artie's Princess (Final Odds 0.75*) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 2 Lucky Score (4.20) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 7 Rocket Joe Copper (3.75) - "A" Selection
Race 10 # 8 Luv to Win (5.90) - "C" Selection

Going five deep in the opening leg just to watch the odds-on Favorite win for fun was certainly not what I would call stellar handicapping on my part.  Still, the larger error that I made Sunday was, after strong consideration, choosing to leave Luv to Win off my main ticket.

I liked Luv to Win because his trainer, Norman McKnight, tends to do quite well with runners debuting in Maiden Claiming contests.  However, seeing as there were multiple runners who had previously finished in the money at this class level, as well as other runners in the field who were making a significant class drop, most of whom were older than the three year old Luv to Win, I thought that Luv to Win would be overmatched.  And I was wrong.  And because of that, Sunday was a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well, onto the next race.

For the record, here are the $0.20 Will Pays for the four runners to which I would have cashed in the last leg of the sequence:

# 3 Win the Draw (24.30) - $285.17 Finish: 11th
# 5 Bodie (6.50) - $92.91 Finish: 5th
# 6 Wicked Crazy (28.90) - $318.63 Finish: 9th
# 13 Dr Chrome (2.95*) - $ 102.09 Finish: 8th

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  9 / 2 / 7 / 8  were rewarded with a payout of $105.72 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

“Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new.” —Augustine Og Mandino

The $100k Ballade, a main track sprint for Ontario bred distaff runners, is Sunday's featured race in Toronto.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another un at The Late Pick Four at Woodbine.

RACE 7 - (F) [S] The Ballade $100k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 November Fog (Morning Line 6-1)

B's

# 6 Golden Vision (ML 4-1)
# 7 Silent Causeway (ML 12-1)
# 9 Artie's Princess (ML 3-1)
# 13 Spanish Ballerina (ML 8-1)

C's

# 2 Red Equinox (ML 15-1)
# 3 Jilli Marie (ML 15-1)
# 4 Hello Friends (ML 20-1)
# 8 Ishiyaya (ML 20-1)
# 10 Lorena (ML 5-1)
# 11 Souper Pecan (ML 30-1)
# 12 Trading Bay (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 5 Mrs. Del (ML 30-1)

Among the places where the wandering mind will travel is the consideration that the [S] designation should perhaps be replaced with a [P] when referencing races in Canada.  But as with all such things, consistency wins out.  Anyway, if it's not already clear, all runners in this contest are Ontario bred.

November Fog, making her third start off the layoff, should benefit from the cutback in distance.  Spanish Ballerina and Golden Vision filled out the Exacta against open OC N2X company last time out over this main track.

Silent Causeway got under the wire a couple of lengths ahead of November Fog in the $100k La Prevoyante back in December.  Artie's Princess has shown an affinity for this main track in the past, and Artie's Princess is getting some significant class relief today.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 8 - OC 50k B - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 8 Maclean's Posse (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Solidify (ML 4-1)
# 2 Lucky Score (ML 10-1)

C's

# 3 Circle of Friends (ML 6-1)
# 4 Sir Seamus (ML 12-1)
# 5 Hicksy (ML 8-1)
# 7 Malibu Secret (ML 15-1)
# 9 Tycoon (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 6 Real Money (ML 7-2)

For those who note such things, Solidify and Circle of Friends are the only two runners in this field that will be leaving the gate with the $50k price tag on their heads.

The Josie Carroll trained Maclean's Posse, a four year old colt making just his fourth career start, could be the real deal; in which case I'll look kinda foolish later today for having gone three deep in this leg.  But as I expect Maclean's Posse to face a more contentious pace Sunday than he has in his prior contests, I thought it prudent to have some backup.

Solidify and Lucky Score are both making a move down the class ladder, providing them both with an excellent opportunity to improve.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 9 - Clm $25k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 7 Rocket Joe Copper (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 3 Seguimi (ML 3-1)
# 6 Hyperfocus (ML 7-2)

C's

# 1 Mnemba Island (ML 5-2)
# 2 Ari Gold Speedwagn (ML 8-1)
# 4 Selfmade (ML 15-1)
# 5 Coleyville (ML 10-1)
# 8 Lion's Goldenheart (ML 20-1)

Rocket Joe Copper took the Show at this class level earlier this month, albeit for another barn.  Seguimi makes a move up the class ladder after winning by daylight against cheaper last time out.  Hyperfocus took the Place behind Seguimi last time out; perhaps the move from the inner turf to the outer course will aid Hyperfocus in what will almost certainly be another come from behind bid.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 10 - Md $15k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 13 Dr Chrome (ML 3-1)

B's

# 3 Win the Draw (ML 10-1)
# 5 Bodie (ML 9-2)
# 6 Wicked Crazy (ML 20-1)

C's

# 1 Take Charge Sousi (ML 15-1)
# 2 Trebuchet (ML 10-1)
# 4 Stormin' Humor (ML 12-1)
# 8 Luv to Win (ML 6-1)
# 9 Mystic Point (ML 15-1)
# 10 The Coachman (ML 20-1)
# 11 Determined Friend (ML 15-1)
# 14 View From Egbert (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 7 Painting the Moon (ML 15-1)

EDIT # 12 Northern Conquest (ML 12-1) has also been scratched

Dr Chrome took the Place at this class level last time out.  Win the Draw took the Show at this class level in his debut last time out.  Bodie and Wicked Crazy are two that could benefit from the move down the class ladder.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 8 with 7 with 13 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P4: 1,6,7,9,13 with 1,2,8 with 3,6,7 with 3,5,6,13 $36.00

A's with One C

$0.20 P4: 2,3,4,8,10,11,12 with 8 with 7 with 13 $1.40
$0.20 P4: 1 with 3,4,5,7,9 with 7 with 13 $1.00
$0.20 P4: 1 with 8 with 1,2,4,5,8 with 13 $1.00
$0.20 P4: 1 with 8 with 7 with 1,2,4,8,9,10,11,14 $1.60

Total: $42.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 4:27 EDT / 1:27 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

6/18/22 Woodbine Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - # 9 Goldstorm Glory (Final Odds 3.30) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 3 Endorphin Rush (4.20) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 3 Verdejo (2.20*) - "B" Selection
Race 10 - # 9 Late Surge (16.25) - "C" Selection

In Saturday's second leg (Race 8) my "A" Selection, # 5 Cheeky Pint (2.00*), was a neck too late in getting under the wire; while the nightcap saw # 8 Solis (11.85), one of my "B" Selections in that contest, settle for the Show, a little less than two lengths behind the winner.  So those were my two losses in the sequence; which, as you already know, is two losses too many if one is hoping to collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  9 / 3 / 3 / 9  were rewarded with a payout of $273.40 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

6/18/22 Woodbine Late Pick Four - Preview

“I'd seen John around—in the chip shop, on the bus, that sort of thing—and thought he looked quite cool, but would we have ever talked?  I don't know.  As it happened, though, I had a school friend who knew John.  And then I also happened to share a bus journey with George to school.  All these small coincidences had to happen to make the Beatles happen, and it does feel like some kind of magic.  It's one of the wonderful lessons about saying yes when life presents these opportunities to you.  You never know where they might lead.” - Paul McCartney

Horse Racing's Triple Crown Season has ended for 2022; but, of course, opportunities for success still abound. And, well, that's about all I've got by way of introduction.  So let's just get to it, as I take another un at The Late Pick Four at Woodbine.

RACE 7 - (F) MOC 25k - Seven and a Half Furlongs Inner Turf

A’s

# 8 Classic Queen (Morning Line 5-2)

B’s

# 2 Vlognier (ML 10-1)
# 4 Victoria Elizabeth (ML 12-1)
# 6 Suspicious Minds (ML 3-1)
# 9 Goldstorm Glory (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 Forest Vixen (ML 8-1)
# 3 Frac Tales (ML 20-1)
# 7 Laila's Charm (ML 12-1)
#10 Nadiablizniz (ML 20-1)
# 11 High Treason (ML 15-1)

Scratch # 5 Body of Law (ML 10-1), as well as all the Also Eligibles: # 12 Skinny Dippin (ML 15-1); # 13 Blue Twirlin (ML 9-5); # 14 Stole the Ring (ML 20-1); # 15 Smarty Illusion (ML 7-2); and # 16 Loaded Secret (ML 4-1)

For those who note such things, Frac Tales is the only runner in this field that will be leaving the gate without the $25k price tag on her head.

Classic Queen has taken the Show at this class level in each of her prior two starts.  Vlognier showed less than nothing in her debut last time out; but it's not unusual for Julia Carey trained runners to make a big move forward in their second career start.

Victoria Elizabeth is a first time starter in a field without a standout.  Also take note of Victoria Elizabeth's work on the grass on June 3.

Suspicious Minds finished in the Trifecta at this class level two and three starts back.  Goldstorm Glory may wake up with the class drop.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 8 - (F) OClm 10k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Cheeky Pint (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 4 Call Her Joey (ML 5-2)
# 8 Pluie d'Avril (ML 10-1)

C's

# 2 Ami's Link (ML 6-1)
# 3 Endorphin Rush (ML 3-1)
# 6 Crumblin Time (ML 8-1)
# 7 Anita Grigio (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 1 Cocotara (ML 20-1)

This contest is a Starter Optional Claimer; an Optional Claimer / Starter Allowance hybrid, if you will.  A distaff runner is eligible to compete here tag free if she has started for a claiming price of $5k or less this year or last.  Otherwise, an entrant will be eligible to be claimed for $10k.  For those who note such things, Ami's Link and Pluie d'Avril are the only two runners in here that cannot be claimed for the $10k price tag.

Cheeky Pint took the Show at this class level last time out, and Cheeky Pint has run well in her career on the turf.  Call Her Joey, making her 2022 debut, looks well meant here.

Pluie d'Avril took the Show at this class level last time out, and Pluie d'Avril has run well in the the past when stretching out.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 9 - (F) OC 40k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Basalt Street (ML 6-1)

B's

# 2 Dixie Morning (ML 2-1)
# 3 Verdejo (ML 5-2)

C's

# 1 American Gamble (ML 8-1)
# 4 Fourteen Days (ML 20-1)
# 6 Silent Ghost (ML 10-1)
# 7 Veery (ML 3-1)

Note that these entrants have visited the Winner's Circle just once in each of their respective careers.  Those that will be competing with the $40k price tag on their head are Verdejo, Basalt Street, and Silent Ghost.

Basalt Street ships in from Louisiana and will be competing on a synthetic surface for the first time.  Basalt Street's work over this main track at the beginning of the month suggests that she'll do quite well handling the fake stuff.

Dixie Morning took the Place at this class level while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite last time out.  Verdejo should appreciate the class drop.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 10 - Md $15k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 Free Shipping (ML 3-1)

B's

# 7 The Band Coming (ML 12-1)
# 8 Solis (ML 8-1)
# 11 Linmighty (ML 10-1)

C's

# 1 Hayroll (ML 20-1)
# 2 Why Not Bourbon (ML 12-1)
# 3 Suigu (ML 4-1)
# 5 Mr. Commish (ML 20-1)
# 6 Quiet Rebel (ML 15-1)
# 9 Late Surge (ML 6-1)
# 10 Lil Bit Gangsta (ML 5-1)

Free Shipping is out to prove that the sixteenth time's the charm.  Free Shipping has finished in the Trifecta against more expensive stock, and this is the lowest price for which Free Shipping has ever competed.

The Band Coming could improve with the stretch out.  Solis could move up with the class drop.  Linmighty might prove that grass was what he wanted all along.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 8 with 5 with 5 with 4 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P4: 2,4,6,8,9 with 4,5,8 with 2,3,5 with 4,7,8,11 $36.00

A's with One C

$0.20 P4: 1,3,7,10,11 with 5 with 5 with 4 $1.00
$0.20 P4: 8 with 2,3,6,7 with 5 with 4 $0.80
$0.20 P4: 8 with 5 with 1,4,6,7 with 4 $0.80
$0.20 P4: 8 with 5 with 5 with 1,2,3,5,6,9,10 $1.40

Total: $41.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 4:18 EDT / 1:18 PDT.  Good luck to all.

6/11/22 Belmont Park Belmont Stakes Pick Four - Results

Race 8 - The Jaipur - # 4 Casa Creed (Final Odds 4.20) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - The Metropolitan - # 1 Flightline (0.45*) - "C" Selection
Race 10 - The Manhattan - # 7 Tribhuvan (Fr) (19.10) - "C" Selection
Race 11 - The Belmont Stakes - # 6 Mo Donegal (2.60*) - "B" Selection

You know, while I was watching the Met Mile (aka the Metropolitan) and seeing Flightline get the poor break, get shut off trying to pass on the rail, etc., etc., I was feeling oh so smart about having played against him.  I was thinking I was going to have one of my all-time best days of horse racing wagering as I was watching Flightline struggle, unable to get to the pacesetter, # 2 Speaker’s Corner (2.75).

And then Flightline went wide on the turn, shifted gears, and flew right on by Speaker’s Corner as if Speaker’s Corner was a statue.  And Flightline did that without being asked for his best.  An absolutely amazing performance.

A performance that left me feeling not so smart after all.

Since there were other errors in my handicapping Saturday, when I look back upon how wrong I was regarding Flightline's ability, at least it wasn't a make-or-break mistake regarding my bottom line.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Belmont Stakes Pick Four sequence of  4 / 1 / 7 / 6  were rewarded with a payout of $221.25 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

6/11/22 Belmont Park Belmont Stakes Pick Four - Preview

“We're all being tested....That's what life is.” - Brad Meltzer

And so we arrive at the third and final leg of horse racing's Triple Crown, The Test of Champions, the Belmont Stakes.  As with any racing day, there are quite a few questions to be answered Saturday in Elmont, NY.  For example, is Flightline really all that?  Or is Flightline just another West Coast phenom that will fizzle out under the bright lights of New York?  Were Rich Strike's connections right to bypass the Preakness Stakes in order to focus on today's contest?  Can We the People conquer the Belmont Stakes in the same coast to coast manner that he did the Peter Pan?  Hopefully I'll land upon the correct replies to these and all other questions to be found in this sequence, as I take a run at The All Grade 1 Pick Four ending with The Test of Champions at beautiful Belmont Park.

RACE 8 - The Jaipur (Grade 1) - Six Furlongs Widener Turf

A's

# 8 Scuttlebuzz (Morning Line 6-1)

B's

# 3 True Valour (Ire) (ML 12-1)
# 4 Casa Creed (ML 9-2)
# 5 Arrest Me Red (ML 5-2)
# 13 Gregorian Chant (GB) (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Change of  Control (ML 15-1)
# 2 Omaha City (ML 20-1)
# 6 Greyes Creek (ML 30-1)
# 7 Whatmakessammyrun (ML 20-1)
# 9 Filo Di Arianna (Brz) (ML 20-1)
# 10 Smokin' Jay (ML 15-1)
# 11 Chasing Artie (ML 15-1)
# 12 Gear Jockey (ML 6-1)

Scuttlebuzz, a winner over this course last time out, has a proven affinity for today's distance.  True Valour (Ire) showed no ill effects last time out from his journey to Dubai.  Casa Creed won last year's running of this event, and I'm a sucker for defending champs.

Arrest Me Red, winner of the Grade 2 Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs last time out, appears to be in top form.  Gregorian Chant (GB), who took the Show behind Arrest Me Red in the aforementioned Turf Sprint, could move up with the increase in distance.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 9 - The Metropolitan Handicap (Grade 1) - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 2 Speaker's Corner (ML 8-5)

B's

# 4 Happy Saver (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Flightline (ML 3-5)
# 3 Aloha West (ML 6-1)
# 5 Informative (ML 50-1)

You know, if there's going to be one race Saturday that I'll be looking back on when all the running is done and shaking my head over, this one is the most likely candidate.  Flightline has all the makings of being one of the best of all time.  Flightline has won all three of his career starts by over ten lengths.  That's each; not combined.  And while Flightline is making his 2022 debut, Flightline's work tab shows that he is in form and ready to roll.

But I'm taking Speaker's Corner here.  Speaker's Corner has the undeniable edge over Flightline when it comes to experience.  Speaker's Corner is two-for-two at the mile distance; Flightline has yet to compete beyond seven furlongs.  Speaker's Corner is two-for-two over the Belmont Park main track; Flightline has yet to run outside of California.  So I'm giving Speaker's Corner the edge over Flightline.

But wait; there's more.  In what I may look upon later as a serious waste of money, I'm doubling the cost of my main ticket by adding a second runner.  Should Speaker's Corner and Flightline duel each other into submission before the wire, I believe that Happy Saver is talented enough to go past them both and collect the top prize.

So for better or worse, that's how I'm playing this leg.  Speaker's Corner on top.  Happy Saver making it two deep on the main ticket.  Flightline joining the rest of the field as backup "C" Selections.  And we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

RACE 10 - The Manhattan (Grade 1) - Ten Furlongs Inner Turf

A's

# 8 Highland Chief (Ire) (ML 6-1)

B's

# 2 Gufo (ML 3-1)
# 3 Tokyo Gold (Fr) (ML 30-1)
# 5 In Love (Brz) (ML 15-1)
# 9 Santin (ML 7-2)
# 10 Channel Maker (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 L'Imperator (Fr) (ML 15-1)
# 4 Adhamo (Ire) (ML 4-1)
# 6 Rockemperor (Ire) (ML 10-1)
# 7 Tribhuvan (Fr) (ML 8-1)

On paper, this contest has the makings of a classic.  In my opinion this is a Breeders' Cup quality event, with all entrants worthy of consideration.  Were it within my budget, I would simply punch the "ALL" button, sit back, and enjoy this race.

Highland Chief (Ire) and Gufo filled out the Exacta in the Grade 1 Man o' War over this turf course last time out.  Tokyo Gold (Fr) ran well over this course last year while taking the Place in the Grade 1 Belmont Derby.

In Love (Brz) has demonstrated the ability to win from anywhere in the field.  If In Love can return to the same form that he showed in 2021 while running off three straight Wins, then In Love can definitely pull off the upset.

Santin has shown steady improvement in each of his 2022 starts.  Channel Maker's victory last time out in the Grade 2 Elkhorn suggests that he might be having a resurgence.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 11 - The Belmont (Grade 1) - Twelve Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 3 Nest (ML 8-1)

B's

# 4 Rich Strike (ML 7-2)
# 6 Mo Donegal (ML 5-2)

C's

# 1 We the People (ML 2-1)
# 2 Skippylongstocking (ML 20-1)
# 5 Creative Minister (ML 6-1)
# 7 Golden Glider (ML 20-1)
# 8 Barber Road (ML 10-1)

Trainer Todd Pletcher won this contest in 2007 with the filly Rags to Riches; and in my opinion Pletcher stands an excellent chance of winning this year's running with another filly, Nest.  As a daughter of Curlin (who crossed the Finish Line just a head behind Rags to Riches in 2007) with 1992 Belmont Stakes winner A.P. Indy as her damsire, Nest is certainly well bred to handle the twelve furlong distance.

Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike may need to be closer to the pace than he was on the first Saturday in May; but Rich Strike's works suggest that he can be quick early if need be.  If the Todd Pletcher trained Mo Donegal can repeat the effort that he gave while winning the Grade 2 Wood Memorial, than Mo Donegal could be the one wearing the carnations when this contest is over.

And, no, I'm not using We the People on my main ticket.  I'm simply of the opinion that We the People's victory last time out in the Grade 3 Peter Pan was greatly enabled by the track being sealed, and that We the People's "effort" in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby is a more reliable indicator of We the People's overall ability.  So it's three deep for me in this leg, with We the People joining the rest of the field as a backup "C" Selection.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 8 with 2 with 8 with 3 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 3,4,5,8,13 with 2,4 with 2,3,5,8,9,10 with 3,4,6 $90.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,2,6,7,9,10,11,12 with 2 with 8 with 3 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 8 with 1,3,5 with 8 with 3 $1.50
$0.50 P4: 8 with 2 with 1,4,6,7 with 3 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 8 with 2 with 8 with 1,2,5,7,8 $2.50

Total: $101.00

Post Time for Race 8 is 3:53 EDT / 12:53 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

6/4/22 Woodbine Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - # 8 Mr Crowley (Final Odds 2.80) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - The Royal North - # 5 Boardroom (2.85*) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 3 Souper Munnings (2.25*) - "C" Selection
Race 10 - # 8 Commanders Palace (11.80) - "C" Selection

In Saturday's nightcap at Woodbine, "B" Selection # 7 Marais (29.40) was a half length too late in getting under the wire, and had to settle for the Place.  So it was probably for the best that "A" Selection # 6 Millennium Force (2.50) lost the photo to Souper Munnings in Saturday's penultimate race; because being alive to a 29-1 shot in the final leg of The Late Pick Four just to see them take the Place by less than daylight would have been a much worse beat than the events that actually transpired.

Oh well, onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  8 / 5 / 3 / 8  were rewarded with a payout of $293.59 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

“It's failure that gives you the proper perspective on success.” - Ellen DeGeneres

We're just a week away from the Belmont Stakes, the third and final leg of horse racing's Triple Crown.  So that leaves us with just seven days to build our respective bankrolls for what will certainly be a monster card in New York.  My attempt to increase my own stack of cash finds me once again scouring the card in Toronto, where Saturday's featured race is the Grade 2 Royal North.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take a run at The Late Pick Four at Woodbine.

RACE 7 - MOC 25k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 6 Dixie's Flatter (Morning Line 2-1)

B’s

# 3 Summer Sunset (ML 5-1)
# 4 Shambo (ML 20-1)
# 8 Mr Crowley (ML 3-1)

C's

# 1 Chocolate Run (ML 15-1)
# 2 Lilnmighty (ML 10-1)
# 5 Mr. Commish (ML 20-1)
# 7 Love the Game (ML 8-1)
# 9 Wicked Crazy (ML 20-1)
# 10 Determined Friend (ML 6-1)

For those who note such things, Mr. Commish is the only runner in this field to not be competing with the $25k price tag on his head.

Dixie's Flatter took the Show against more expensive stock last time out, and runners for Trainer Josie Carroll tend to do well going second off the layoff.  Summer Sunset took the Place at this class level last time out while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite.

Shambo is making his 2022 debut, and is doing so for a new barn; specifically, the barn of Trainer Zeljko Krcmar, who tends to do well with new hires.  Mr Crowley showed good early speed in his debut last time out.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 8 - (F) The Royal North (Grade 2) - Six and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 7 Gidgetta (ML 12-1)

B's

# 5 Boardroom (ML 2-1)
# 6 Amalfi Coast (ML 5-2)
# 8 Souper Sensational (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Lady War Machine (ML 12-1)
# 2 In Good Spirits (ML 4-1)
# 3 Jeanie B (GB) (ML 6-1)
# 4 La Libertee (ML 20-1)

Gidgetta is making her 2022 debut here, and Gidgetta could be the one running best late.  Boardroom took the Place last time out in the Grade 2 Whimsical.  This will be Boardroom's first try on the grass.  If Boardroom takes to the turf, then expect Boardroom to try to get the jump on Gidgetta and take first run at the leaders.

Amalfi Coast is the defending champ for this event, having emerged victorious when it was last run in August 2021.  Souper Sensational, like Boardroom, is also making her turf debut.  Souper Sensational is a daughter of Curlin, who has sired enough turf stakes winners to make it reasonable to expect Souper Sensational to maintain her form with the surface switch.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 9 - (F) OC 62.5k B - Five Furlongs Inner Turf

A’s

# 6 Millennium Force (ML 2-1)

B's

# 1 Owen's Tour Guide (ML 8-1)

C's

# 3 Souper Munnings (ML 5-2)
# 4 Roman d'Oro (ML 6-1)
# 5 Amalfi Sky (ML 10-1)
# 7 Billyjane (ML 15-1)

Scratch # 2 Hai Bobbi (ML 4-1)

For the record, Billyjane is the only runner here that will be leaving the gate with the $62.5k price tag on her head.

Millennium Force fits well at this level, and a strong case could be make for making Millennium Force a big ticket single.  However, I like how well Owen's Tour Guide has run on the Woodbine grass in the past; and because of that I'm willing to double the cost of my main ticket.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 10 - (F) ALW N1X - Seven Furlongs Turf

A's

# 3 Ready Lady (ML 3-1)

B's

# 4 Cheerupsleepyjean (Fr) (ML 4-1)
# 7 Marais (ML 15-1)
# 9 Sake (Fr) (ML 10-1)

C's

# 1 Teacher's Pet (ML 20-1)
# 2 Ann of Cleves (ML 20-1)
# 5 Quinte Road (ML 10-1)
# 6 She Makes a Point (ML 6-1)
# 8 Commanders Palace (ML 15-1)
# 10 Gloriannia (ML 30-1)
# 11 Sleek Lynx (GB) (ML 10-1)
# 12 English Biscuit (ML 30-1)
# 14 She's a Dream (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 13 Spider Belle (ML 20-1)

Ready Lady only prior career victory came at today's distance over this turf course.  Cheeupsleepyjean (Fr) is making her 2022 debut here, and can be expected to show more than she did last time out at Kentucky Downs.  Marais took the Place at this class level over the main track last time out.

Sake (Fr), making her 2022 debut, looks well meant here.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.
