3/26/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 5 Lota Spunk (Final Odds 10.70) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 5 Atta Boy Bear (0.40*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 3 Aly's Last Magic (11.00) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 4 Sharkzilla (2.10*) - "A" Selection

Our "A" Selection in the opening leg, # 4 Rock 'n On Home, was scratched close to Post Time by order of the track veterinarian.  Rather than cancel or change our play, we accepted the Post Time Favorite, # 3 Trelawny (0.90*) in his place.

We erred in not making Aly's Last Magic an "A" Selection; doing so would have allowed us to cash.  But we also erred by including # 2 Soolalmon (15.50) on our big ticket in the second leg, as Atta Boy Bear proved to be the standout on the track the he looked to be on paper.  On the other hand, we were proven correct in our decision to leave Morning Line and Post Time Favorite # 5 Dame Street (2.00*) off our big ticket; and we did have all the winners on our tickets; just not all on any one ticket.  But in the end the things we did wrong outweighed the things we did right, which made this a day for us to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  5 / 5 / 3 / 4  were rewarded with a payout of $475.85 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/26/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

"A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor." - Franklin D. Roosevelt

As promised in Saturday's preview, we'll be focusing on the final four contests on the program while we allow time for the Golden Pick Six jackpot to build back up (for those interested, Saturday's Golden Pick Six paid out $53.12 for a twenty cent wager).  So with that let's get to it, as we take another run at The Late Pick Four at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 6 - Clm $3.2k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Rock 'n On Home (Morning Line 2-1)

B’s

# 1 Outthink'em (ML 9-2)
# 3 Trelawny (ML 9-5)

C's

# 5 Lota Spunk (ML 10-1)
# 7 Fort Cady (ML 6-1)

Rock 'n On Home dead heated with a next out winner last time out in a contest that can be viewed as equal in class to today's race (the claiming price was higher, but that contest was conditioned, while today's is open).  Trelawny was the Show horse in that contest; but, unlike Rock 'n On Home, Trelawny has competed and won since that race.

Outthink'em goes first off the claim for Trainer Jack Steiner, who does very well with such.  Lota Spunk missed victory by just a head (while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite) two starts back.  Fort Cady may impove cutting back to one turn racing.

RACE 7 - MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Atta Boy Bear (ML 1-1)

B's

# 2 Soolalmon (ML 10-1)

C's

# 7 The Ice Box Kid (ML 7-2)

Races 7 and 9 are two divisions of the same event, having as they do identical conditions while being run over the same distance.

We're once again giving Atta Boy Bear, who has taken the Place at this class level in each of his three career starts, another chance to make us look like fools by giving him the top spot on our ticket.  If Atta Boy Bear runs to his true talent level, he wins.  Otherwise, Soolamon and The Ice Box Kid look like the two first time starters most likely to pull the upset.

RACE 8 - Clm $12.5k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 6 Exactamente (ML 6-1)
# 7 Pretty Emma (ML 9-2)

B’s

# 1 Reverchon (ML 12-1)
# 3 Aly's Last Magic (ML 8-1)

C's

# 2 Crimson Cloud (ML 5-2)
# 4 Sea Myrtle (ML 6-1)
# 5 Dame Street (ML 2-1)

Exactamente took the Show at this class level last time out.  Pretty Emma took the Place behind a next out winner last time out.

Toss Reverchon's last outing; prior to that contest Reverchon was showing a nice, steady pattern of improvement.  Aly's Last Magic defeater cheaper last time out, and now goes first off the claim for Trainer Bill Delia, who tends to do well with such.

Crimson Cloud has proven to be competitive at this class level, albeit considerably camera shy.  Sea Myrtle is on the ticket because everyone else is.  Dame Street took the Place against more expensive two starts back, but doesn't appear to be in top form.

RACE 9 - MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Sharkzilla (ML 2-1)
# 7 Robs Lucky Spirit (ML 5-2)

B's

# 3 Tiz Jims (ML 20-1)
# 6 Regal Born (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Elegant Tanner (ML 4-1)
# 2 Ceesway (ML 20-1)
# 5 Silken Chief (ML 3-1)

Races 7 and 9 are two divisions of the same event, having as they do identical conditions while being run over the same distance.

Sharkzilla took the Show at this class level (behind Race 7's Atta Boy Bear) last time out, with Robs Lucky Spirit (in his debut) crossing under the wire less than a length behind.  Tiz Jims, also making his debut, was in that event as well, and flashed some good early foot before fading.

Regal Born looks to be the best of the first time starters, who round out the ticket.  Silken Chief perhaps should rate higher; but the concern with Silken Chief is that he seems to need an extended recovery time whenever he records a sharp work.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 4 with 5 with 6,7 with 4,7 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,3,4 with 2,5 with 1,3,6,7 with 3,4,6,7 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 5,7 with 5 with 6,7 with 4,7 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 7 with 6,7 with 4,7 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 5 with 2,4,5 with 4,7 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 5 with 6,7 with 1,2,5 $3.00

Total: $64.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:19 EDT / 3:19 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/25/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 3 Mr. Shook (Final Odds 0.80*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 1 Eagle Screams (1.30*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 3 Happy Issue (4.30) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 5 Alliford Bay (3.50) - "B" Selection

Happy Issue has now won three straight races at the $12.5k Claiming level; all by a nose, none as the Post Time Favorite.  Happy Issue winning the photo today meant that we were alive to "ALL" in the nightcap, by virtue of having "A" Selections win the first three legs; but in retrospect, we almost defnitely would have been better served had the head bob in that contest gone to "B" Selection # 4 She Sang (7.30).

For the record, here are the $0.50 Will Pays for the other six runners to which we were alive in the finale:

# 1 I’m Passing Ya Now (8.10) - $204.50 Finish: 6th
# 3 Eccentric Spinster (1.20*) - $42.50 Finish: 2nd
# 4 C. R. Golden Queen (38.80) - $478.55 Finish: 7th
# 6 Bonnie’s Ransom (23.30) - $347.45 Finish: 5th
# 7 Kelseybelle (6.60) - $129.60 Finish: 4th
# 8 Fiery Lady (3.60) - $157.00 Finish: 3rd

# 2 Munnings Girl was a gate scratch; so had Eccentric Spinster won, we would have collected that $42.50 payout four times (once on our big ticket; twice on our "All A Entries" ticket; and once on one of our "A's with One C" tickets).

But that's what might have been.  What actually came to be was a correct Pick Four sequence of  3 / 1 / 3 / 5  which paid $77.80 for a fifty cent wager.  That makes for a profit of $21.80 on our $56 investment, or approximate odds of 0.39-1.  As that was the lowest of all possible amounts that we could have collected, it was obviously not the ideal result.  But we do profit; and one thing you will never see me do is turn up my nose at profit, irrespective of size.

I hope you all had it with me.  May God bless us as we spend our winnings.

Onto the next race!

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/25/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

The Golden Pick Six Jackpot getting hit Sunday the 19th gives us an excellent excuse to lighten our workload a bit this weekend, as we focus in on a shorter sequence.  The final four events on Saturday's program at Golden Gate are bookended by a pair of non-claiming maiden races with a few first time starters; perhaps one (or both) will feature a new star on the horizon.  So with that let's get to it, as we take a run at The Late Pick Four at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 6 - MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Mr. Shook (Morning Line 8-5)

B's

# 1 Mini Bar (ML 5-2)

C's

# 6 Luke Thirteen (ML 7-2)

Mr. Shook took the Place in his debut at this class level last time out, passing Mini Bar in the stretch.  Luke Thirteen is a first time starter who shows a nice, steady work pattern leading into this contest; a pattern that includes a sharp five furlong workout over this main track on the 9th.

RACE 7 - Clm $32k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Eagle Screams (ML 2-1)
# 3 Pepper Crown (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 5 On The Key (ML 12-1)
# 7 Emmett Park (ML 5-2)

C's

None

Pepper Crown nosed out Eagle Screams on the line last month, and these two look like the ones to beat again today.  On The Key looks to be the one that will be running best late.  Emmett Park goes first off the claim for Trainer John Martin, while returning to two turn racing.

RACE 8 - (F) Clm $12.5k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Happy Issue (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 4 She Sang (ML 6-1)
# 5 Upended (ML 5-2)
# 7 Nightengale Miss (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Happy Issue has visited the Winner's Circle in each of her last two races, both at today's class level.  Upended and She Sang took the Place and Show, respectively, behind Happy Issue last time out.  Nightengale Miss, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, was victorious the last time that she competed at this class level.

RACE 9 - (F) MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Eccentric Spinster (ML 2-1)

B's

# 5 Alliford Bay (ML 7-2)
# 8 Fiery Lady (ML 10-1)

C's

# 1 I'm Passing Ya Now (ML 6-1)
# 2 Munnings Girl (ML 10-1)

# 4 C. R. Golden Queen (ML 10-1)
# 6 Bonnie's Ransom (ML 8-1)
# 7 Kelseybelle (ML 9-2)

Eccentric Spinster, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, took the Show in her debut at this class level last time out.  Alliford Bay was sired by City Zip, whose progeny tend to do well at first asking.  Fiery Lady showed good early speed in her debut last time out; and while that effort was last May, Fiery Lady has been working well leading into this contest.

The "C" Selections are everyone else.  The most likely outcome of this contest is that Eccentric Spinster moves forward off her debut and wins for fun.  But the concern is that if she doesn't move forward, then this becomes a chaos race, as a legitimate case could be made for nearly every entrant in this field.  So for that reason, our backup dance card is full.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 3 with 1,3 with 3 with 3 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,3 with 1,3,5,7 with 3,4,5,7 with 3,5,8 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6 with 1,3 with 3 with 3 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 3 with 1,3 with 3 with 1,2,4,6,7 $5.00

Total: $56.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:23 EDT / 3:23 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/19/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

Sunday's promotion is a $100k Horseshoe Pitch, which is scheduled to be held after Race 7; so good luck to all those onsite who will be hoping to get the opportunity to toss a ringer.  Hopefully we'll still be in the game ourselves at that point, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - Clm $6.25k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Blazingulch (Morning Line 2-1)

B’s

# 4 Whatahandsomecat (ML 9-5)

C's

# 2 Blowmeaway (ML 3-1)

Note that none of the entrants in this contest finished in the money last time out; that's something you sure don't see often.  Blazingulch looks to be just a bit quicker than Whatahandsomecat.  I'm not concerned about the ten pound apprentice on Blazingulch, as the rider's strategy for this one should be simple enough: get out in front and ride the rail.  Blowmeaway could be the one running best late if the two front runners should falter.

RACE 5 - Clm $16k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Indygo Bo (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 1 Royal Banker (GB) (ML 3-1)
# 2 Sizzlin' Joe (ML 5-2)

C's

None

Indygo Bo and Royal Banker (GB) have been hitting the board of late against more expensive stock, and both look to be well meant here.  Sizzlin' Joe has visited the Winner's Circle five of the six times that he has competed over this main track, and looks to be the one that will pick up the pieces should Indygo Bo and Royal Banker duel each other into exhaustion.

RACE 6 - (F) Md $16k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Ron's Answer (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 La Canpamocha (ML 5-1)
# 7 Play Nice (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 5 Kykee (ML 9-2)

Ron's Answer took the Place against more expensive two starts back, and looks to be the quickest in this field.  La Canpamocha will try to defeat Ron's Answer on the front end by riding the rail, while Play Nice deserves another look based upon the way that she's been working since her debut last time out.

RACE 7 - (F) ALW N1X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 1 Roianna (ML 10-1)
# 4 Doris Johnson (ML 5-2)

B's

# 3 Anythingcanhappen (ML 9-2)
# 6 Rose Among Thorns (ML 3-1)

C's

# 7 Tiz a Tommy Town (ML 5-1)

Roianna won by daylight last time out; and while she is moving up in class off that contest, Roianna did take the Place at this approximate class level three starts back.  Doris Johnson looks to be quickest here, and could lead this field all the way around the track.

Anythingcanhappen advanced well in her first start among winners last time out.  Rose Among Thorns misses by two heads of being in the midst of a four race winning streak.  Tiz a Tommy Town took the Show at this class level two starts back.

RACE 8 - Clm $4k B - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Gurnick (ML 4-1)

B's

# 3 Super Indian (Fr) (ML 9-2)

C's

# 1 North Pacific (ML 12-1)
# 6 Rob's Pal (ML 5-2)
# 8 Lucky Shoes to Win (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 7 Athens (ML 2-1)

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race in 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a horse has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, than none of those Wins could have been this year in order for the horse to be entered here (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $3.5k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, Super Indian (Fr) and Rob's Pal are the only two runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

Gurnick took the Show at this class level last time out, and looks to be the best of this bunch.  The only concern for Gurnick is if there'll be enough pace for him to close into.  Super Indian (Fr) should be well placed early, and could get a nice rail trip, as there's no one quicker to his inside.

North Pacific won by as many as he pleased last time out against cheaper.  Rob's Pal has been showing steady improvement over his last few races.  Lucky Shoes to Win could get a nice stalking trip from the outermost post.

RACE 9 - (F) Md $12.5k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Deanns Mojave (ML 3-1)
# 9 Hellacious Hadlee (ML 9-2)

B's

# 1 Golden Bubbles (ML 10-1)
# 4 Kodianne (ML 6-1)
# 8 Her Big Moment (ML 7-2)

C's

None

Scratch # 2 Silver Minx (ML 10-1)

Deanns Mojave took the Show against more expensive in each of her two prior career starts.  Hellacious Hadlee missed graduation by just a head at this class level last time out, and should be the one leading the field early.

Golden Bubbles was right behind Hellacious Hadless at the wire last time out.  Kodianne missed graduation by just a head at this class level last time out, albeit while racing around just one turn.  Her Big Moment ships in from downstate, and could move up with the class drop.

OK, that's the analysis.  While this is a jackpot wager, we won't be putting all our selections on one ticket.  While we still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of our lives, budgetary constraints must be respected.  I think it's also safe to presume that our "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket, so we should be safe in pressing those up.  So with all that, playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 1 with 4 with 4 with 1,4 with 2 with 7,9 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 1,4 with 1,2,4 with 4 with 1,3,4,6 with 2,3 with 1,4,7,8,9 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 2 with 4 with 4 with 1,4 with 2 with 7,9 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 1 with 4 with 1,7 with 1,4 with 2 with 7,9 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 1 with 4 with 4 with 7 with 2 with 7,9 $0.40
$0.20 P6: 1 with 4 with 4 with 1,4 with 1,6,8 with 7,9 $2.40

Total: $57.20

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:19 EDT / 2:19 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/18/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 1 Better in Leather (Final Odds 2.00*) - "B" Selection
Race 5 - # 2 Letithappen (3.70) - "A" Selection
Race 6 - # 1 Gotham Desire (0.10*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - The Camilla Urso - # 5 Fast And Foxy (1.20*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 4 Street Lad (3.20) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 3 Mandala (5.80) - No Selection

We were in great position after getting our big ticket single home in The Camilla Urso; but we totally whiffed on the very next leg; having no part whatsoever, not just of the winner, but of any of the runners that finished in the Trifecta.  Which, in retrospect, was just as well, as we missed the winner of the nightcap as well.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  1 / 2 / 1 / 5 / 4 / 3  were rewarded with a payout of $505.20 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/18/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

The Camilla Urso, a six furlong sprint for older fillies and mares, is Saturday's featured race at Golden Gate Fields.  We'll be taking a look at that contest below, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - (F) Clm $22.5k N2L - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Hekawi (Morning Line 5-2)

B’s

# 1 Better in Leather (ML 2-1)

C's

# 5 Tricked Again (ML 4-1)
# 6 Hotter Than Sinn (ML 9-2)

Better in Leather and Hekawai took the Place and Show, respectively, in the same last out contest at today's class level.  I'm giving the edge to Hekawi today because Better in Leather has again drawn the rail, which means that, with her late running style, Better in Leather may find herself having to swing wide once again in order to find running room in the stretch.

Tricked Again has proven competitive at this class level, but seems to settle for too many minor awards.  Hotter Than Sinn moves up in class, but could be quick enough to be a pace presence at least, and perhaps the once getting first run at the leaders.

RACE 5 - Clm $40k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Letithappen (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 1 Administer (ML 3-1)
# 3 Cartoonist (ML 5-2)
# 6 Holdthismiss (ML 4-1)

C's

# 4 Yahoo Tahoe (ML 5-1)
# 5 Awesome Silver (ML 6-1)

Letithappen was victorious at this class level two starts back; last time out Letithappen missed by less than a length against Allowance N1X company.  Administer won ath this class level two starts back.  Cartoonist defeated several of these last time out, albeit by getting away with an easy early lead.

Holdthismiss had to settle for the Place against cheaper last time out; but Holdthismiss has proven in the past to be competitive at today's level.  Yahoo Tahoe fits well at this class level, but has been settling for too many minor awards.  Awesome Silver is on the ticket because everyone else in this contest is.

RACE 6 - (F) Alw 40000s N2L - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Gotham Desire (ML 1-1)

B’s

# 3 Dumont (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass for having one (and just one) win against winners, provided that win was for $16k or less.  Dumont is the only runner here that has visited the Winner's Circle twice; all other entrants in this contest have just one career Win.

Gotham Desire did pretty much everything that you could ask a first time starter to do last time out, running down the pacesetter and winning by the length of the stretch.  Even a slightly lesser effort than that should be enough to give Gotham Desire another victory today.  But in addition to facing winners for the first time today, this will be Gotham Desire's first try around two turns.  So while it means doubling the cost of our big ticket, I think it's prudent to use two in this leg; which is why Dumont, who won at today's class level two starts back, is being used as a "B" Selection.

RACE 7 - (F) The Camilia Urso $50k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Fast And Foxy (ML 8-5)

B's

None

C's

# 3 Turkish Tabby (ML 8-1)
# 7 Code Warrior (ML 7-2)

Scratch # 1 Precious Time (ML 10-1) and # 8 Calm The Sea (ML 20-1)

Fast And Foxy has proven herself the best of this bunch multiple times; so if Fast And Foxy runs her race today, she wins.  Turkish Tabby might catch her today if everything breaks right; while Code Warrior was able to take the Place in front of Fast And Foxy's Show finish three starts back.

RACE 8 - ALW N1X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 1 Undeniable U (ML 7-2)
# 8 Taelyns Prince (ML 6-1)

B's

# 5 Small Town Cop (ML 3-1)

C's

# 7 Shackleford Banks (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 3 He's a Pepper (ML 6-1)

Undeniable U ships in from downstate, going first time for the barn of Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.  Taelyns Prince has proven to be competitive at today's class level, and could work out a nice stalking trip today.

Small Town Cop has taken the Place at today's class level in two of his last three starts.  Shackleford Banks could improve with the cutback in distance.

RACE 9 - Clm $3.2k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Weirdhaircut Seth (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 1 Go Mojave Go (ML 9-5)
# 5 Rox the Fox (ML 6-1)
# 8 Whilly Pink (ML 9-2)

C's

# 4 Darcurts Hope (ML 20-1)

This contest is open to runners which have not won two races in 2016-2017 (So shouldn't this be N2Y instead of N2X?  Oh well; no time to argue).

Weirdhaircut Seth missed by just a neck at today's class level last time out.  Go Mojave Go has taken the Place against classier foes in each of his last two races; but Go Mojave Go has been absent from the Winner's Circle for quite some time.

Rox the Fox could wake up with the class drop.  Whilly Pink has been on the bench for a while, but Whilly Pink has been working well for this contest.  Darcurts Hope took the Show at this class level last time out; though last time out was over eleven months ago.

$1.00 P6: 3 with 2 with 1 with 5 with 1,8 with 7 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 1,3 with 1,2,3,6 with 1,3 with 5 with 1,5,8 with 1,5,7,8 $38.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 5,6 with 2 with 1 with 5 with 1,8 with 7 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 3 with 4,5 with 1 with 5 with 1,8 with 7 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 3 with 2 with 1 with 3,7 with 1,8 with 7 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 3 with 2 with 1 with 5 with 7 with 7 $0.20
$0.20 P6: 3 with 2 with 1 with 5 with 1,8 with 4 $0.40

Total: $43.40

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:19 EDT / 2:19 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

Race 7 - # 3 Floating Feather (1.00*) - "B" Selection

I think it's fair to say that hitting the "ALL" button in the opening leg worked out in our favor, as it gave us the second highest price on the board in the Race 2 field.  But unfortunately for us the rest of the sequence wasn't as kind; for while we had 'em all, having half the winners as backups only isn't anything of which to be especially proud.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  3 / 3 / 6 / 1 / 6 / 3  were rewarded with a payout of $321.22 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/16/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

I found myself with some extra time on this St Patrick's Day Eve; and while I will be keeping an eye on the NCAA Tournament, for me there's no better pastime than watching thoroughbreds do their thing.  So let's get to it, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 2 - (F) Clm $8k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 6 Crown On Tap (Morning Line 3-1)

B’s

# 1 Constant Craving (ML 5-2)
# 2 Ladiesablazin (ML 6-1)

# 3 Finish Wealthy (ML 4-1)
# 4 Silver Beauty (ML 20-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 5 Karma Queen (ML 2-1)

This contest has the smell of one of those events where the runners each take turns defeating the others.  Crown On Tap, despite having lost by half a length to Constant Craving last time out, appears to be the best of the lot; but really, any one of these five is capable of having their picture taken once this race is run.

RACE 3 - Clm $20k N2X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Mana Strike (ML 8-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 2 My Friend George (ML 8-1)
# 3 Bluegrass Bronco (ML 7-2)
# 4 Wings of the Wind (ML 2-1)

Mana Strike took the Show last time out against much classier competition.  Wings of the Wind took the Place at this class level last time out (albeit for a different barn) with My Friend George grabbing the Show behind him.  Bluegrass Bronco ships in from downstate to try the synthetic for the first time.  If Bluegrass Bronco takes to the surface, then he could be the one that they'll have to catch to win.

RACE 4 - (F) Md $8k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Keihl Crissia (ML 2-1)

B's

# 2 Wildcard Deb (ML 4-1)

C's

# 3 First Sicilian (ML 5-2)
# 6 Secret Agent Girl (ML 7-2)
# 7 Lady of Fire (ML 12-1)

Keihl Crissia took the Place at this approximate class level two starts back (yes, I know it was actually for a higher claiming price; but trust me, with all the class droppers in today's race, that contest earlier this month ranks about equal with this event).  Wildcard Deb showed some earlier quickness in her second career start last time out, and might have it all figured out today.

First Sicilian fits well with the contenders here, but appears to be on the wrong surface.  Secret Agent Girl might wake up with the relocation from downstate.  Lady of Fire has shown talent at this level, but, like First Sicilian, doesn't seem well suited to the synthetic.

RACE 5 - Clm $12.5k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Soul Prince (ML 5-2)
# 6 Loma Cat (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 4 Smoking Forty Five (ML 8-1)
# 5 Dixie Pistol (ML 6-5)

C's

None

Soul Prince took the Place at this class level last time out, and now goes first off the claim for Trainer Jonathan Wong, who tends to do well with such.  Loma Cat graduated by daylight last time out, and might have finally figured it out.

Smoking Forty Five looks to be the one that will be running best late.  Dixie Pistol projects to be part of the early pace, and could steal this one on the front end.

RACE 6 - OC 62k/N2X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Pure Comedy (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 1 Top Pirana (ML 5-2)

C's

# 4 Marino's Wild Cat (ML 12-1)
# 5 Mah Gellin (ML 6-1)
# 6 Westley (ML 2-1)

Pure Comedy was victorious at this level two starts back, with Top Pirana taking the Place behind him.  Marino's Wild Cat projects to be the one to know early.  Mah Gellin looks to improve going second off the freshening.  Westley looked good in each of his last two starts; but that was with a lot of things going his way.

RACE 7 - Clm $6.25k B - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Opsec (ML 6-1)

B's

# 1 Nahem (ML 6-1)
# 3 Floating Feather (ML 5-2)

C's

# 7 Ace Deuce (ML 6-1)

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race in 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a horse has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, than none of those Wins could have been this year in order for the horse to be entered here.  For the record, # 4 Zorrito (ML 5-1) and # 8 The Gray Hound (ML 12-1) are the only two runners here with fewer than four career Wins.

Opsec ran well off the freshening last time out, and could improve off that effort.  Nahem finished in the Trifecta at this class level two and three starts back.  Floating Feather and Ace Deuce each disappointed as the Post Time Favorite in their respective last out contests, both at this class level.

$1.00 P6: 6 with 1 with 5 with 1,6 with 2 with 5 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: ALL with 1 with 2,5 with 1,4,5,6 with 1,2 with 1,3,5 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 6 with 2,3,4 with 5 with 1,6 with 2 with 5 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 6 with 1 with 3,6,7 with 1,6 with 2 with 5 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 6 with 1 with 5 with 1,6 with 4,5,6 with 5 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 6 with 1 with 5 with 1,6 with 2 with 7 $0.40

Total: $54.00

Post Time for Race 2 is 4:15 EDT / 1:15 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/12/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 4 Bolt Up (Final Odds 0.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 5 - # 3 Engram (3.70) - "B" Selection
Race 6 - # 5 Architop (5.10) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 6 Merle (5.90) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 7 Sudden Sam (5.70) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 1 Night's Watch (6.60) - "C" Selection

The day began promisingly enough, as we got our big ticket single home in the opening leg to kick off the sequence.  However, it seems pretty clear in retrospect that today was destined to be a day of heartache, perhaps best symbolized by the head-bobbing defeat of our "A" Selection # 6 John Paul's Bet (1.30*) in the third leg.  We were oh so close, yet oh so far; because we had 'em all, but not all on any one ticket; which means that we collect just as much as if we hadn't had any.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  4 / 3 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 1  were rewarded with a payout of $2,765.28 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/12/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

Welcome to Daylight Saving Time!  Hopefully you've made it everywhere that you needed to be on time today, including the Post Time for whichever race you were hoping to begin your play.  For us, that would be Race 4 at Golden Gate Fields, as we move our action back upstate and take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - (F) Md $8k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Bolt Up (Morning Line 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Pridelander (ML 5-1)
# 2 Kadabadoo (ML 5-2)
# 6 Regil Girl (ML 3-1)

Bolt Up took the Place at this class level last time out and could benefit from the reduction in real estate.  Pridelander could be the one running best late.  Kadabadoo gets some much needed class relief.  Regil Girl, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, is being priced to sell after a significant layoff, but must be respected based upon the connections.

RACE 5 - MSW - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Georgia Blue (ML 7-5)

B's

# 1 Uber Star (ML 2-1)
# 3 Engram (ML 6-1)

C's

# 2 General Strelnikov (ML 10-1)
# 5 Lucky Patrick (ML 10-1)
# 6 Pageau (ML 9-2)

Uber Star and Engram took the Place and Show, respectively, at this class level back in February.  Georgia Blue ships in from downstate to try the synthetic surface for the first time.  If Georgia Blue takes to the new footing she (yes, she) wins; but since she's had no local public workout, there's no way to be sure that she will like the change.

The "C" Selections are everyone else.  I don't see this as a chaos race, but with the questions regarding the surface hovering over the Morning Line Favorite, I thought it best to get all the coverage that I could.

RACE 6 - Alw 40000s N2L - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Jimmy the Juice (ML 2-1)
# 6 John Paul's Bet (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 3 Village Kitten (ML 4-1)
# 5 Architop (ML 9-2)

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass for having one (and just one) win against winners, provided that win was for $16k or less.  # 2 Post Rock (ML 10-1) and Architop are the two runners in this field with just one Win; all others entered have visited the Winner's Circle twice in their career.

Jimmy the Juice projects to be the one to catch, provided that he takes to the new surroundings.  John Paul's Bet has finished out of the Trifecta just once since shipping in from Emerald Downs.

Village Kitten has proven that he can contend under these conditions; now he just has to find his way to the Winner's Circle.  Architop has finished in the Trifecta each of the two times that he has competed over this main track.

RACE 7 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 6 Merle (ML 8-1)
# 7 Academic Code (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 3 Seattle Windy (ML 5-1)
# 4 Radar Jammin (ML 7-2)

C's

# 1 Spot N the Line (ML 3-1)

Merle returns from an extended leave of absence; Trainer Debbie Winick has done well with such.  Merle will also be returning to his preferred surface.  Academic Code has done well under these conditions, including hitting the board against a few next out winners, suggesting that Academic Code may finally win by war of attrition.

Seattle Windy and Radar Jammin are both trying winners for the first time after graduating by daylight last time out.  Spot N the Line fits well here, but has been settling for too many minor awards to put in the top spot.

RACE 8 - ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 7 Sudden Sam (ML 7-2)
# 8 Mi Bouchon (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Squidward (ML 10-1)
# 5 Pulmarack (ML 3-1)

C's

None

Sudden Sam looks to be quickest in this field, provided that he takes to the surface switch.  Mi Bouchon ran out of gas while taking the scenic route to the wire last time out, after winning under these conditions two starts back.  Squidward returns from a six month vacation; if he's in shape, he fits well here.  Pulmarack took the Show at this class level last time out.

RACE 9 - MSW - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Pacific Surf (ML 2-1)

B's

# 9 Larrikin (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Night's Watch (ML 6-1)

Pacific Surf ships in from downstate for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, and should benefit from the cutback in distance.  Larrikin ran well in his debut last time out, once he figured out that there was a race going on and that he was in it.  Night's Watch could improve with the move to two turn racing.

$1.00 P6: 4 with 4 with 1,6 with 6,7 with 7,8 with 4 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 4 with 1,3,4 with 1,6 with 3,4,6,7 with 1,5,7,8 with 4,9 $38.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 1,2,6 with 4 with 1,6 with 6,7 with 7,8 with 4 $4.80
$0.20 P6: 4 with 2,5,6 with 1,6 with 6,7 with 7,8 with 4 $4.80
$0.20 P6: 4 with 4 with 3,5 with 6,7 with 7,8 with 4 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 4 with 4 with 1,6 with 1 with 7,8 with 4 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 4 with 4 with 1,6 with 6,7 with 7,8 with 1 $1.60

Total: $60.00

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:18 EDT / 2:18 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/11/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 8 - The Triple Bend - # 1 Denman's Call (Final Odds 16.70) - No Selection
Race 9 - The Frank E Kilroe Mile - # 1 Bal a Bali (Brz) - "B" Selection
Race 10 - The Santa Anita Handicap - # 3 Shaman Ghost (1.30*) - "A" Selection
Race 11 - The China Doll - # 5 Sircat Sally (1.20*) - "A" Selection

Our big ticket single, # 5 Masochistic (0.50*), crossed under the wire over four lengths in front of # 7 Conquest Cobra (19.90) and the rest of the field in the opening leg of the sequence.  Well, the rest of the field excepting Denman's Call, who caught Masochistic at the eighth pole and out-battled him in the final furlong to win the Triple Bend; thus turning all our tickets into trash.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  1 / 1 / 3 / 5  were rewarded with a payout of $1,346.45 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/11/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Saturday is Big Cap Day out in Arcadia, where a first rate card chock full of stakes, chief among them the 80th running of the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap, has been cobbled together for our enjoyment.  So let's get to it, as we take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 8 - The Triple Bend (Grade 1) - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Masochistic (Morning Line 1-1)

B's

None

C's

# 3 Kobe's Back (ML 5-2)
# 4 Silent Bird (ML 4-1)
# 7 Conquest Cobra (ML 10-1)

If this contest runs to form it will have the appearance of a greyhound race, with Masochistic playing the role of the rabbit while the rest of the field runs in the futile hope of perhaps someday, maybe, catching up with him.  However, should Masochistic just not have it today, then Kobe's Back (the Post Time Favorite in last year's running of this event), Silent Bird, and Conquest Cobra appear to be the ones most likely to be battling it out at the wire.

RACE 9 - The Frank E Kilroe Mile (Grade 1) - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 3 Bolo (ML 3-1)
# 7 What a View (ML 7-2)

B's

# 1 Bal a Bali (Brz) (ML 8-1)
# 4 Dortmund (ML 4-1)

# 5 Ring Weekend (ML 4-1)
# 6 Conquest Enforcer (ML 7-2)

C's

None

EDIT- SCRATCH # 2 Flamboyant (Fr) (ML 12-1)

Dortmund is the best horse in this field, but this will be his first race on turf rather than dirt, as well as being his first race away from the barn of Bob Baffert.  So how will Dortmund run today in his first try on the lawn?  I have no idea.

In addition, more than half this field was within a length of each other at the wire last time out in the Grade 2 Arcadia.  Put it all together and this contest screams chaos.  So it's everybody into the pool, as I'll be hitting the "ALL" button for this leg of the sequence.

RACE 10 - The Santa Anita Handicap (Grade 1) - Ten Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Midnight Storm (ML 8-5)
# 3 Shaman Ghost (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 6 Follow Me Crev (ML 8-1)
# 7 Twentytwentyvision (ML 12-1)
# 9 Imperative (ML 5-1)

The featured race has the potential to be a replay of The Triple Bend (Race 8 above), with Midnight Storm playing catch me if you can with the rest of the field.  But the difference here is distance; for while Masochistic is a perfect three-for-three in his career when competing at seven furlongs (the distance that he will be running today), Midnight Storm failed miserably the one time that he tried to cover the ten furlongs that he will need to run in the Big Cap.

The key difference for Midnight Storm today compared to that prior try at a mile and a quarter is that there does not appear to be anyone in this field who can challenge him during the opening stage of the event, therefore minimizing the risk that Midnight Storm will be dueled into the ground early and have nothing left late.  However, should Midnight Storm still find ten furlongs to be a bridge too far, expect Shaman Ghost to catch him late.

Twentytwentyvision has done well in his prior tries on a Fast dirt track.  Imperative could get first run at Midnight Storm and beat Shaman Ghost to the wire.  And if somehow, someway, it all falls apart, Follow Me Crev could be the one running best late.

RACE 11 - (F) The China Doll $75k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Sircat Sally (ML 5-2)
# 11 Miss Sunset (ML 6-1)

B's

# 1 Miss Sugars (GB) (ML 4-1)
# 2 Go On Mary (ML 10-1)
# 3 Bernina Star (ML 20-1)
# 4 How About Zero (ML 15-1)
# 10 Beau Recall (Ire) (ML 5-1)
# 13 Siberian Iris (Ire) (ML 12-1)

C's

# 9 Madam Dancealot (Ire) (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 12 Lady Beware (Ire) (ML 30-1) and # 14 Spy Ring (Ire) (ML 8-1).  Bring in # 13 Siberian Iris (Ire) (ML 12-1).

Sircat Sally will be making her first start in open company, but the form that Sircat Sally has shown in winning her initial three starts should hold up against this field.  Miss Sunset defeated several running here last time out in the Sweet Life.

Miss Sugars (GB) took the Place just behind Miss Sunset in The Sweet Life, with Go On Mary completing the Trifecta in that contest.  Bernina Star was a convincing winner going around two turns on the main track last time out; Trainer James Cassidy tends to do well when placing his last out winners.

How About Zero took the Place behind Sircat Sally in the California Cup Oaks two starts back.  Beau Recall (Ire) could be the one running best late.  Siberian Iris (Ire) was impressive in winning her three year old debut last time out.  Madam Dancealot (Ire) completed the Superfecta in the Sweet Life last time out.

OK, that's the analysis.  Yes, we are over budget; but I think it's justified based upon the anticipated size of the pool.  So with that, playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 5 with 3,7 with 1,3 with 5,11 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 5 with ALL with 1,3 with 1,2,3,4,5,10,11,13 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,4,7 with 3,7 with 1,3 with 5,11 $12.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 3,7 with 6,7,9 with 5,11 $6.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 3,7 with 1,3 with 9 $2.00

Total: $76.00

EDIT: TICKETS ADJUSTED TO REFLECT THE SCRATCH OF FLAMBOYANT (FR)

Post Time for Race 8 is 6:38 EDT / 3:38 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/5/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 5 King's to You (Final Odds 7.20) - No Selection
Race 5 - # 2 She's Justa Dream (0.60*) - "A" Selection
Race 6 - # 1 Valiant Flame (1.50*) - No Selection
Race 7 - # 3 Pulpit Hanna (3.50) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 7 Mended (2.10*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 6 Sweet River Baines (14.40) - "C" Selection

We got our big ticket single home in the second leg, as well as two other "A" Selections; but it was all for naught, as we were knocked out in the very first round, having no part of the winner of the opening leg.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  5 / 2 / 1 / 3 / 7 / 6  were rewarded with a payout of $2,131.74 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/5/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

The Pick 6 jackpot at Golden Gate managed to elude a single winning ticket yesterday; which means that we'll be using this Sunday to attempt to collect from that pool.  So let's just get to it, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - Clm $8k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Midnight Rambler (ML 8-5)

B’s

# 3 Gotham Sky (ML 3-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 1 We Own the Night (ML 5-1)

Midnight Rambler enters this contest riding a three race winning streak, and projects to be the speed of the speed.  Gotham Sky has recently entered the barn of Trainer Jonathan Wong and could be the one running best late.

RACE 5 - (F) Md $8k - Five Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 She's Justa Dream (ML 6-5)

B's

None

C's

# 4 Patti Kinsella (ML 5-2)
# 5 Tiz a Princess (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 6 Slightly (ML 7-2)

She's Justa Dream took the Place in her debut at this class level last time out.  Patti Kinsella ships in from downstate and could wake up with the class drop.  Tiz a Princess is a first time starter for Trainer Rene Amescua, who tends to do well with such.  Slightly took the Show in her debut at this class level last time out.

RACE 6 - Clm $10k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Tribal Dude (ML 9-5)
# 5 Hot Lightning (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 3 Athens (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 2 Preacher's Bluff (ML 10-1)

Tribal Dude and Hot Lightning took the Place and Show, respectively, at this class level last time out.  Athens returns to action after spending over a year on the bench for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.  The bullet works that Athens has been firing in his morning workouts suggest that he's ready to roll.

RACE 7 - (F) Clm $3.2k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Pulpit Hanna (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 2 Fab Four Ever (ML 5-1)
# 7 Ourprincessmelanie (ML 5-2)

C's

None

Pulpit Hanna took the Show last time out against classier stock.  Ourprincessmelanie was victorious at this class level last time out, with Fab Four Ever (who had done most of the heavy lifting in that contest) crossing the wire a couple of lengths behind her.

RACE 8 - (F) Clm $12.5k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Mended (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 3 Bow Tie Belle (ML 12-1)
# 5 With a Twist (ML 3-1)
# 6 Exactamente (ML 9-2)

C's

None

Mended moves up in class after a convincing win against conditioned claimers last time out.  Exacatamente disappointed as the Post Time Favorite last time out, and projects to be the one challenging Mended early, while Bow Tie Belle and With a Twist look to be the ones that will be running best late.

RACE 9 - MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Atta Boy Bear (ML 2-1)
# 10 J C's Nightcap (ML 4-1)

B's

# 8 Pamper Me Now (ML 7-2)

C's

# 1 Pirate Ship (ML 10-1)
# 6 Sweet River Baines (ML 10-1)

Atta Boy Bear took the Place at this class level last time out, with J C's Nightcap grabbing the Show behind him.  Pamper Me Now took the Show at this class level in his debut two starts back.  Pirate Ship and Sweet River Baines are a pair of first time starters by sires whose progeny tend to do well at first asking.

So with that, playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 2 with 2 with 4,5 with 3 with 7 with 2,10 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 2,3 with 2 with 3,4,5 with 2,3,7 with 3,5,6,7 with 2,8,10 $43.20

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 2 with 4,5 with 4,5 with 3 with 7 with 2,10 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 4,5 with 3 with 7 with 1,6 $0.80

Total: $49.60

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:14 EDT / 2:14 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/4/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Results

Race 4 - # 2 Saint Adalbert (Final Odds 2.30) - "A" Selection
Race 5 - # 3 Mr. Cartagena (2.40) - "C" Selection
Race 6 - # 6 Happy Issue (13.10) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 4 Lucky Christiana (6.70) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 4 War Moccasin (8.90) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 5 Black Sona (8.40) - "C" Selection

We we only able to get two of the runners on our big ticket home, and one of those two was in a contest where we hit the "ALL" button; so Saturday certainly wasn't one of our better days of handicapping.  But on the other hand we did have all but one of the winners on at least one of our tickets, so our picks weren't total garbage.  Still, miss one or miss 'em all, it's all the same to the bottom line.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Golden Pick Six sequence of  2 / 3 / 6 / 4 / 4 / 5  were rewarded with a payout of $2,661.12 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/4/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

“Each problem has hidden in it an opportunity so powerful that it literally dwarfs the problem. The greatest success stories were created by people who recognized a problem and turned it into an opportunity.” - Joseph Sugarman

The past two Saturdays have seen the Pick Six jackpot get scooped at Golden Gate; and while I've done no research on the subject, I suspect that some sort of record would be broken were it to happen again for the third week in a row.  And so, with that as backdrop, let's get to it, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - Clm $6.25k B - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Saint Adalbert (Morning Line 5-2)

B's

# 1 Synnin (ML 3-1)
# 6 Gold Chaser (ML 9-5)

C's

None

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race in 2017; OR
2) Have not won four races in their career.

Excepting claiming and starter races for $5k or less; they don't count.

So as long as a horse has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have been in 2017 in order for the horse to be entered here.

Saint Adalbert found six furlongs a bridge too far last time out, and should improve with the reduction in real estate that he'll need to cover.  One thing that is almost certain is that Saint Adalbert is the one that the others will have to catch if they want to win.

Synnin was victorious at this class level last time out.  Gold Chaser is taking a huge drop down the class ladder, and looks to be the one that will be running best late.

RACE 5 - Clm $3.2k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Fort Cady (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 4 Misdeed (ML 5-2)
# 6 Lota Spunk (ML 7-2)

C's

# 3 Mr. Cartagena (ML 3-1)

Fort Cady may have needed that last one, his first competitive action in 2017; and the fact that Fort Cady flashed some nice early foot in that contest suggests that he may be fully conditioned off the freshening.

Misdeed was a winner last time out for a higher claiming price but with conditions; consider this a sideways move on the class ladder.  Lota Spunk was victorious at this class level two starts back.  Mr. Cartegena seems to be just a stride or two below the top contenders here, though he is certainly capable of winning at this level.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $12.5k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Upended (ML 1-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Ravizzone (ML 4-1)
# 6 Happy Issue (ML 6-1)

Upended closed well against classier foes last time out (note that even though these are unrestricted claimers, Upended and Happy Issue are the only two runners in this contest with multiple victories, with two apiece).  Ravizzone took the Place in front of Happy Issue last time out; Happy Issue followed up that contest with a win at this class level.

RACE 7 - (F) MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Arabesque (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Red City Zip (ML 3-1)
# 3 Call Your Bluff (ML 12-1)
# 4 Lucky Christiana (ML 5-1)
# 5 What a Ten (ML 10-1)
# 7 Eccentric Spinster (ML 4-1)
# 8 I'm Passing Ya Now (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 6 Irish Luck (ML 12-1)

Arabesque missed graduation by just a neck last time out at this class level, making it the fourth time in five tries that Arabesque has settled for the Place.  Arabesque is certainly the best horse in this field; and perhaps today is the day that she figures it out.  But should Arabesque once again decide to cross the wire behind another runner, then this contest becomes open to anyone, as a legitimate case could be made for each of the other entrants in this field.

RACE 8 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Shari (ML 8-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Tiz Deliteful (ML 3-1)
# 5 She's Not a Lemon (ML 6-1)

Shari took the Show in the California Oaks last time out, and was victorious at this class level (via DQ) back in December.  Tiz Deliteful took the Place at this class level two and three starts back, and is stretching out to two turns for the first time.  She's Not a Lemon tries winners for the first time after graduating last time out; Trainer Steve Miyadi tends to do well when placing his last out runners.

RACE 9 - MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Engram (ML 8-1)
# 6 Mr. Shook (ML 8-5)

B's

# 1 Satin Ruler (ML 15-1)
# 3 Mini Bar (ML 2-1)

C's

# 2 Gio Mio (ML 5-1)
# 5 Black Sona (ML 10-1)

Engram took the Show at this class level last time out, and should show more early interest today with the addition of blinkers.  Mr. Shook is a first time starter trained by Jerry Hollendorfer and sired by Smart Strike, which suggests that he should be ready to roll.  Mr. Shook has been working well over this main track.

Satin Ruler showed some early quickness in his debut last time out.  Mini Bar missed graduation by a neck at this class level last time out.

Gio Mio has probably been placed here just to get some work off the bench, as he looks like he needs more distance to show his best.  But Gio Mio has shown prior ability at this class level, and must be respected for that reason.  Black Sona seems to have taken well to the synthetic surface, and may improve with the removal of the hood.

So with that, playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 2 with 2 with 5 with 2 with 2 with 4,6 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 1,2,6 with 2,4,6 with 5 with ALL with 2 with 1,3,4,6 $50.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 2 with 3 with 5 with 2 with 2 with 4,6 $0.40
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 1,6 with 2 with 2 with 4,6 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 5 with 2 with 1,5 with 4,6 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 5 with 2 with 2 with 2,5 $0.40

Total: $54.80

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:14 EDT / 2:14 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
