3/31/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 7 Fast Bid (Ire) (Final Odds 5.00) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 5 Karma King (1.30*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - The San Francisco Mile - # 7 Flamboyant (Fr) (11.60) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 4 That's My Gal (3.00) - "B" Selection

Flamboyant (Fr) got to the wire a neck in front of my "A" Selection in the Grade 3 San Francisco Mile, # 1 Editore (Brz) (3.50).  The victory was the first for Flamboyant since taking the prize in the Grade 2 San Marcos back on February 6, 2016, thus breaking his fourteen race losing streak.  As for my play, the neck that separated Flamboyant from Editore at the wire was the difference Saturday between collecting and contributing, as the other three winners in the sequence were all to be found on the big ticket.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  7 / 5 / 7 / 4  were rewarded with a payout of $342.35 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/31/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

It's San Francisco Mile Day up at Golden Gate Fields, as the Grade 3 event highlights the card as well as declaring that the turf course as open for business.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) Alw 50000s N2L - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 Loves the Crowd (Morning Line 2-1)

B’s

# 7 Fast Bid (Ire) (ML 8-1)

C's

# 3 Starring Role (ML 5-1)
# 4 Having Fun (ML 15-1)
# 6 Namorita (ML 12-1)

# 8 Queen of Troy (ML 3-1)

Note for future reference that this contest is for runners which have not won two races in their career; excepting that entrants are given a bye for having one (and just one) victory for $20k or less not counted toward their lifetime total.  For the record, # 2 Loves the Crowd is the only runner in this field with more than one lifetime Win.

As mentioned above, Loves the Crowd is the only entrant in this field to have visited the Winner's Circle more than once.  Loves the Crowd is also getting substantial class relief from her more recent starts.  The only concern with Loves the Crowd is that those more recent starts are from last Spring.

Queen of Troy and Fast Bid (Ire) filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta at this class level last time out, albeit over the main track.  I expect Fast Bid to benefit more from the surface switch.

Starring Role and Having Fun have won over this turf course in the past.  Namorita looks better suited to the main track; but Namorita fits well with the contenders here.

RACE 7 - ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 5 Karma King (ML 2-1)

B's

# 1 Thorny Weather (ML 6-1)
# 3 Hekili Storm (ML 5-1)
# 6 Regal Born (ML 3-1)

C's

None

Karma King is undefeated since joining the barn of Trainer John Martin, and looks well meant here.  Thorny Weather, Hekili Storm, and Regal Born were all close enough at the wire at this class level last time out to warrant consideration here.

RACE 8 - The San Francisco Mile (Grade 3) - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Editore (Brz) (ML 6-1)

B's

# 3 Syntax (Ire) (ML 4-1)

C's

# 2 Frank Conversation (ML 3-1)
# 7 Flamboyant (Fr) (ML 6-1)

# 10 Full of Luck (Chi) (ML 5-1)
# 11 Many Roses (ML 15-1)

Editore (Brz), Graded Stakes placed in both of his 2018 contests, looks to be in top form.  Syntax (Ire), trained by Phil D"Amato, should improve off his effort in the Kilroe Mile last time out.

Frank Conversation fits well here on class; but Frank Conversation may need more distance to show his best; and he may also need a race off the layoff.  Flamboyant (Fr) is another that may be better served with a longer distance.

Full of Luck (Chi) is a true dark horse; but Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer has done well with this type in the past.  Many Roses could upset if he can save something for the drive.

RACE 9 - (F) Md $12.5k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Filina (ML 8-1)

B's

# 2 Chazelle (ML 3-1)
# 3 Marina Del Mar (ML 8-1)
# 4 That's My Gal (ML 2-1)
# 5 Brandolina (ML 7-2)

C's

# 7 Cattering (ML 12-1)

Filina took the Place at this class level last time out.  Chazelle moves up in class after taking the Place against less expensive company last time out; Trainer Jedd Josephson has won in the past with this move.

That's My Gal and Marina Del Mar were part of the Superfecta at this class level last time out.  Brandolina, the Post Time Favorite in that contest, freaked (in the bad way) and finished fifth; perhaps Brandolina will be calmer today.  Cattering is a first time starter who may be over-matched here; but Cattering's breeding suggests that she'll be ready to run today.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2 with 5 with 1 with 1 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 2,7 with 1,3,5,6 with 1,3 with 1,2,3,4,5 $40.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,4,6,8 with 5 with 1 with 1 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 5 with 2,7,10,11 with 1 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 5 with 1 with 7 $0.50

Total: $45.50

Post Time for Race 6 is 5:56 EDT / 2:56 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/25/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 1 Rock Slinger (Final Odds 1.00*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 5 Table for Three (7.10) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 2 Accelerato (3.80) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 9 Hill Croome (2.10*) - "A" Selection

Accelerato proved Sunday that he was not only best on paper but best on the track as well; but I had Accelerato as a backup only and not on the big ticket, as I am not a big fan of the "Thirty-Ninth Time's The Charm" angle in maiden races.  So that, combined with me also using Table for Three as a backup only, made Sunday a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  1 / 5 / 2 / 9  were rewarded with a payout of $255.55 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/25/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Closing the weekend by shifting my action upstate, for no profound reason other than for the sake of change; or maybe just to give myself an extra forty-five minutes rest before first post.  So with that as introduction let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - Md $8k - Five Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Rock Slinger (Morning Line 8-5)

B's

# 4 Pepper Sings (ML 3-1)
# 7 Ur Not My President (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 2 Blackhawk Beauty (ML 8-1) and # 6 Sierra Dance (ML 10-1)

Rock Slinger took the Place in his debut last time out, crossing under the wire a little less than a length in front of Ur Not My President.  Blackhawk Beauty has taken the Show at this class level in each of his last two starts.  Pepper Sings took the Show at this class level two starts back.

RACE 7 - (F) ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 6 Savannah Slew (GB) (ML 7-5)

B's

# 2 Reginella (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 Shari (ML 15-1)
# 3 Sweet Rafaela (ML 5-1)
# 4 Vronilla Parfait (ML 2-1)
# 5 Table for Three (ML 6-1)

Savannah Slew (GB) took the Place at this class level last time out.  Reginella returns to the Golden Gate main track, where she has earned both of her lifetime wins.  The "C" Selections are everyone else, as in my opinion this field, while small, looks to be quite competitive; especially if Savannah Slew should bounce in her second North American start.

RACE 8 - Md $5k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 6 El Monarca (ML 7-2)

B's

# 4 Pepper Sharp (ML 2-1)
# 5 Musket Hunter (ML 8-1)

C's

# 2 Accelerato (ML 5-1)

Scratch # 3 Cash Pilot (ML 5-2)

El Monarca and Pepper Sharp filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta at this class level last time out.  As their reward for finishing in the money in that prior performance, both runners will be competing Sunday as first time geldings.

Cash Pilot failed to hit the board in each of his seven career starts downstate; perhaps the change of scenery will do him well.  Musket Hunter took the Place against more expensive two starts back.  Accelerato, who has finished in the money at this class level and higher, may finally decide that Sunday, in his thirty-ninth try, that he'll allow his picture to be taken after the race.

RACE 9 - Clm $4k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 9 Hill Croome (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 3 Got Tobe Awesome (ML 8-1)
# 4 Confirmed (ML 4-1)
# 6 Knust (ML 5-2)

C's

# 5 Gio's Gold (ML 9-2)

Scratch # 2 The Real McCann (ML 20-1)

Hill Croome has taken the Place at this class level in each of his last two starts.  Conversely, Hill Croome has failed as the Post Time Favorite in each of his last two starts; so there is that to consider.

Got Tobe Awesome could be the one running best late.  Confirmed, ambitiously placed last time out, drops back to a more suitable class level.  Knust is talented enough to win here; but the concern is that Knust seems to settle for too many minor awards.  Gio's Gold graduated last time out by daylight in his first try over a synthetic surface.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 6 with 6 with 9 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,4,7 with 2,6 with 4,5,6 with 3,4,6,9 $36.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1 with 1,3,4,5 with 6 with 9 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 6 with 2 with 9 $0.50
$0.50 P4: 1 with 6 with 6 with 5 $0.50

Total: $40.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 5:58 EDT / 2:58 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/24/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - # 1 Rainbow Squall (Final Odds 8.80) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 8 My Princess Taylor (2.50*) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - The San Luis Rey - # 2 Itsinthepost (Fr) (1.10*) - "A" Selection
Race 10 - # 7 Velvet Jones (1.90*) - "B" Selection

I totally whiffed on Rainbow Squall, the winner of the initial leg of the sequence.  The four year old gelding by City Zip was nowhere to be found on any of my tickets, as he picked up career victory number two in his twenty-third contest.  And that was all it took to make Saturday a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  1 / 8 / 2 / 7  were rewarded with a payout of $165.90 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/24/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Santa Anita's Saturday card features a pair of Graded Stakes; one a dirt sprint for fillies and mares (the Grade 2 Santa Monica) and the other a turf marathon for open company (the Grade 2 San Luis Rey).  I'll be taking a look at the latter of those two contests below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 7 - Alw 50000s N2L - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Quick Finish (Morning Line 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 3 Caray (ML 6-1)
# 7 Bad Boy Leroy (ML 3-1)

Scratch # 5 Treasure Hunter (ML 6-1)

Note for future reference that this contest is for runners which have not won two races in their career; a tidbit of information which for some reason never seems to find its way into the running lines of the Past Performances.

Quick Finish took the Place at this class level last time out, and could benefit from having to cover less real estate.  Caray could move up with a quicker break today.  Bad Boy Leroy tries winners for the first time after defeating state bred company by the length of the stretch last time out.

RACE 8 - (F) Md $30k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Wampus (ML 3-1)

B's

# 1 Calimonco Action (ML 30-1)
# 2 Mongolian Humor (ML 10-1)
# 5 Ride Lady Ride (ML 6-1)
# 6 Venice (ML 5-2)
# 7 Heather's Wish (ML 15-1)
# 8 My Princess Taylor (ML 4-1)

# 9 Dee Way to Go (ML 5-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 3 Oh My Soul (ML 12-1)

Wampus, out of Peppers Pride, took the Show at this class level last time out.  The "B" Selections are everyone else.  Yes, I'm going "ALL" on the big ticket for this leg.  There doesn't appear to be any true standout in this field, in my opinion.  In addition, many of the runners here have most recently competed over something other than a Fast dirt track, thus complicating any attempts to discern their current form.  So, since I'm already going light in a couple of the other legs, there's no reason for me to force an opinion upon this contest, which I think could be a true chaos race.

RACE 9 - The San Luis Rey (Grade 2) - Twelve Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 Itsinthepost (Fr) (ML 6-5)
# 9 Hayabusa One (Fr) (ML 5-2)

B's

None

C's

# 4 Saltini (ML 10-1)
# 6 Aquaphobia (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 10 Frank Conversation (ML 12-1)

Itsinthepost (Fr) and Hayabusa One (Fr) were separated by just a nose at the wire last time out in the Grade 2 San Marcos.  Perhaps the added distance today will give Hayabusa One the edge over the defending champ of this event.  Saltini could move up with the additional real estate to be covered.  Aquaphobia appears to be well meant here.

RACE 10 - (F) Clm $12.5k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Anita G. (ML 5-1)

B’s

# 6 Reckless Charm (ML 5-1)
# 7 Velvet Jones (ML 9-5)
# 9 Pray Anyway (ML 15-1)

C's

None

Anita G. returns from an extended leave for Trainer Steve Miyadi, who tends to do well with such.  Reckless Charm seems to settle for too many minor awards; perhaps the rider switch will make the difference today.

Velvet Jones took the Place at this class level last time out, albeit over a muddy track.  Pray Anyway ships in from upstate, dons the hood, and cuts back to one turn racing; perhaps one or more of those changes will get Pray Anyway to the Winner's Circle Saturday.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 4 with 4 with 2,9 with 2 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 4 with ALL with 2,9 with 2,6,7,9 $32.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,7 with 4 with 2,9 with 2 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 4 with 4,6 with 2 $1.00

Total: $37.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 6:14 EDT / 3:14 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/18/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 1 Spectator (Final Odds 1.00*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 5 Quality Line (6.30) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - The Santa Ana - # 1 Madam Dancealot (1.30*) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 9 Donut Girl (3.50) - "B" Selection

So as it turned out Spectator should have been a single on the big ticket, thus cutting its cost in half.  Such mistakes are somewhat more forgivable when you collect than when you don't; but it's something to keep in mind for future reference.

For the record, here are the $0.50 Will Pays for the other four runners to which I would have cashed in the nightcap:

# 2 I Adore You (36.80) - $1,022.90 Finish: 7th
# 5 Whatyouciswhatuget (8.70) - $273.05 Finish: 6th
# 6 Boom Boom Bango (3.40) - $114.15 - Finish: DNF
# 8 Champagne Honey (1.80*) - $90.65 Finish: 3rd

But that's what might have been.  What actually came to be was a correct Late Pick Four sequence of  1 / 5 / 1 / 9  which paid $93.45 for a fifty cent wager.  That makes for a profit of $39.45 on my initial $54.00 investment, or approximate odds of 0.73-1.

I hope you all had it with me.  May God bless us as we spend our winnings.

Onto the next race!

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/18/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

The Grade 2 Santa Ana, a nine furlong romp in the grass for older fillies and mares, is Sunday's featured race at Santa Anita.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - (F) OC 62.5k/N2X - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Spectator (ML 8-5)

B’s

# 5 She's No Drama (ML 5-1)

C's

# 2 Phantom Proton (ML 7-2)
# 3 Yuvetsi (ML 3-1)

For me, some of the most difficult contests to handicap are Allowance races featuring a Graded Stakes winner coming off a layoff; and that's what we have here.  Spectator, winner of the Grade 2 Sorrento last Summer, is returning from a six month vacation to run against non-winners of two other than Optional Claimers (none of whom are in for a tag).  Now it's obvious that Spectator's connections have not brought her back to the track just to win at this level; rather, Spectator is being prepped here with the expectation of returning her to the highest levels of competition.

And that creates the dilemma: just how hard will Spectator be pushed in this contest?  And, equally important, how hard will Spectator need to be pushed to be victorious against this field?  Because, even without giving her very best, Spectator's talent level is such that she could find herself in the Winner's Circle even without firing on all cylinders.

Ultimately (as you can see above) I decided to go two deep on the big ticket.  I think She's No Drama is the likely pacesetter in this contest; so she's the one that Spectator will have to catch to win.  Whether or not Spectator is primed to run for victory in this event will show in the stretch when they're in sight of the wire.  If Spectator is on her game, then she should run right past She's No Drama as if the latter were a statue.  If not, then it falls to Phantom Proton or Yuvesti to try to catch the rabbit.

RACE 7 - OC 40k/N1X - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Quality Line (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 1 Tony Blackjack (ML 4-1)
# 3 Stringent (ML 5-1)
# 4 Tina's Exchange (ML 5-2)
# 8 Hoffenheim (ML 6-1)

C's

# 2 Elwood J (ML 6-1)
# 6 Royal Opera House (Ire) (ML 12-1)
# 7 Grazen Sky (ML 6-1)

Quality Line appears ready to make a nice move forward Sunday in his third start of 2018.  Tony Blackjack should benefit from the return to the main track.  Stringent and Tina's Exchange appear to be the two quickest here, and if one should shake the other early they may not be caught.

Hoffenheim could be the one running best late.  The "C" Selections are everyone else, as this contest looks like a good one for those with the budget large enough to do so to punch the "ALL" button.

RACE 8 - (F) The Santa Ana (Grade 2) - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 9 Sassy Little Lila (ML 7-2)

B's

# 1 Madam Dancealot (Ire) (ML 5-2)

C's

# 8 Midnight Crossing (Ire) (ML 9-2)

Scratch # 2 Fault (ML 3-1), the winner of Saturday's Grade 1 Santa Margarita

With Fault out of the picture, this race looks to come down to either Sassy Little Lila early or Madam Dancealot (Ire) late.  In an ideal world, that would mean Madam Dancealot should have drawn the furthest outside post, with Sassy Little Lila getting the rail; but providence deemed that the Post Positions should go the opposite way.  Because of that, I think the possibility of Madam Dancealot encountering traffic issues late as she needs to come off the rail is sufficient enough for me to give a slim edge to her rival.

Midnight Crossing (Ire) has been running as a need to lead type of late.  But Midnight Crossing has shown the ability to press the pace in the past; and if Midnight Crossing can return to that form Sunday, then she should get first run at the leader ahead of Madam Dancealot, and just might beat that one to the wire.

RACE 9 - (F) [S] Md $50k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 8 Champagne Honey (ML 5-2)

B's

# 2 I Adore You (ML 20-1)
# 5 Whatyouciswhatuget (ML 6-1)
# 6 Boom Boom Bango (ML 7-2)
# 9 Donut Girl (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Champagne Honey and Whatyouciswhatuget, the only two experienced runners in this field, filled out the bottom two rungs of the Trifecta at this class level last time out.  I Adore You, Boom Boom Bango, and Donut Girl look to be the best of the debut starters.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 5 with 9 with 8 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,5 with 1,3,4,5,8 with 1,9 with 2,5,6,8,9 $50.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 2,3 with 5 with 9 with 8 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 2,6,7 with 9 with 8 $1.50
$0.50 P4: 1 with 5 with 8 with 8 $0.50

Total: $54.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 5:15 EDT / 2:15 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/17/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - # 5 Two Hail Marys (Final Odds 1.60*) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - The Pasadena - # 3 River Boyne (Ire) (1.40*) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - The Santa Margarita - # 10 Fault (3.50) - "C" Selection
Race 10 - # 7 Coil Me Home (1.60*) - "A" Selection

It's not easy to miss a sequence where the winner with the highest odds paid seven dollars; but I thought River Boyne (Ire) was out-classed in the Pasadena, and I thought # 9 Mopotism (1.70*) would do a better job on the stretch out in the Santa Margarita.  Bottom Line: I thought wrong, making Saturday a day to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  5 / 3 / 10 / 7  were rewarded with a payout of $59.35 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/17/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Saturday's featured race at Santa Anita is the Grade 1 Santa Margarita, an event made much more competitive by the absence of Unique Bella.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 7 - [S] Md $50k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Schooley (Morning Line 5-1)

B's

# 5 Two Hail Marys (ML 4-1)
# 8 Jerry's Thunder (ML 8-1)
# 11 Lil Milo (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Write Me a Song (ML 5-1)
# 3 Johnny Ray (ML 7-2)

# 9 Yes I'm Ready (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 2 Seattle Encounter (ML 8-1)

Schooley returns to the main track and drops in for a tag for the first time and returns to one turn racing; all of which portend to bring about an improved effort.  Jerry's Thunder took the Show at this class level last time out, and could improve greatly if he can relax early.  Lil Milo is a first time starter by Rocky Bar, whose progeny have been doing well in their initial attempts.

Two Hail Marys drops in for a tag for the first time after having hit the board against non-claiming Maidens two starts back.  The primary concern here is that two starts back for Two Hail Marys was over a year ago; but Two Hail Marys shows a nice steady work tab entering this contest.  The second concern is the flip side to the primary positive: Two Hail Marys is dropping in for a tag for the first time in this, his return from a long layoff.  It's fair to wonder just how much confidence the connections of Two Hail Marys have in his ability if they're willing to part with him right off the layoff.  But I ultimately decided to include Two Hail Marys on the big ticket because if he can run back to his best, or near best, efforts of 2017, then Two Hail Marys can win here.

Write Me a Song could be the speed of the speed on the rail.  Johnny Ray is now in the barn of Trainer Blake Heap, who tends to do well with runners returning from an extended layoff.  Yes I'm Ready ran the best two races of his career with blinkers off, and returns to that mode today.

RACE 8 - The Pasadena $200k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 9 Inscom (ML 7-2)

B's

# 5 Heck Yeah (ML 5-1)

C's

# 1 Afleet Ascent (ML 6-1)
# 3 River Boyne (Ire) (ML 3-1)

Scratch # 4 Pubilius Syrus (ML 5-2) and # 7 Ax Man (ML 4-1)

Pubilius Syrus enters this event with two consecutive stakes wins, having defeated Afleet Ascent by a length last time out, and Inscom by a head two starts back.  Inscom just a nose behind Pubilius Syrus at the wire last Fall (when both were still maidens) and a head behind Pubilius Syrus in the Eddie Logan, looks to be best with the removal of that rival.  Heck Yeah, the Bob Baffert trainee that is not scratched, is a stakes winner on both turf and dirt, albeit of the state bred variety.

Afleet Ascent may have improved fortunes with the move from the hill to the flats; though stamina may be a concern.  River Boyne (Ire) could be the one running best late.

RACE 9 - (F) The Santa Margarita (Grade 1) - Nine Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 9 Mopotism (ML 7-2)

B's

# 6 Majestic Heat (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 La Force (Ger) (ML 6-1)
# 3 Mended (ML 6-1)
# 10 Fault (ML 4-1)

Mopotism was nine lengths back of the winner in the Grade 2 Santa Maria last time out.  But that winner was Unique Bella, who is absent from this field.  Remove Unique Bella from the Santa Maria and Mopotism enters this contest with two consecutive Graded Stakes wins.

Majestic Heat was a length and a quarter behind Mopotism at the wire in the Santa Maria; but there's a lot of early speed here, and that could set things up nicely for the late running Majestic Heat.

La Force (Ger) and Mended were in the photo with Mopotism in the Grade 2 La Canada; but I think the additional real estate here favors Mopotism.  Fault has been running quite well on the grass, and Trainer Phil D'Amato tends to do well when taking his charges off the turf and putting them on the main track; but Fault will need her very best if she's to get her picture taken today.

RACE 10 - [S] MSW - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 7 Coil Me Home (ML 3-1)
# 10 Fashionably Fast (ML 7-2)

B's

# 2 Baby Gronk (ML 4-1)
# 4 Soul Owner (ML 6-1)

C's

# 3 Gringo Star (ML 12-1)
# 9 Ultimate Bango (ML 10-1)
# 11 Famous Rock Star (ML 6-1)

Coil Me Home and Fashionably Fast filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta at this class level last time out.  Baby Gronk suffered from a bad beginning in his debut at Del Mar last summer, and has been working well for this contest.  Soul Owner is a first time starter who has tossed out some very fine workouts over this main track.

Gringo Star could improve with a return to the main track.  Ultimate Bango and Famous Rock Star are a pair of debut runners whose breeding suggests that they will run well at first asking.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 4 with 9 with 9 with 7,10 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 4,5,8,11 with 5,9 with 6,9 with 2,4,7,10 $32.00

$0.50 P4: 4 with 9 with 1,3,10 with 7,10 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 9 with 9 with 3,9,11 $1.50

Total: $43.50

3/11/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 4 Team Hollywood (Final Odds 4.00) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 7 Quick and Silver (1.30*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 1 Staintondale Lass (Ire) (19.00) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 4 Barton Lodge (Ire) (1.30*) - "A" Selection

When I drew up my play, I thought that there was an excellent chance that the final three races in the sequence would chalk out.  Well, Post Time Favorites did in fact win two of those three contests.  But unfortunately for me, the one where the Post Time Favorite did not come through was the one where I had the Post Time Favorite singled on the big ticket.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  4 / 7 / 1 / 4  were rewarded with a payout of $285.85 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/11/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Changing it up a bit Sunday by shifting my action back upstate, where I need not be concerned with any sudden surface switches from the turf to the main track.  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Our Bold Princess (Morning Line 6-1)

B’s

# 3 Streetwithnoname (ML 2-1)
# 4 Team Hollywood (ML 3-1)
# 5 Blessed Lady (ML 5-2)
# 6 Shylock Eddie (ML 10-1)

C's

None

Our Bold Princess graduated last time out after having come oh so close several times prior; perhaps Our Bold Princess has finally figured it out.  Streetwithnoname and Blessed Lady are two that should benefit from class relief; while Team Hollywood and Shylock Eddie are both coming off victories where they ran well enough to suggest that they can win again here today.

RACE 7 - OC 62.5k/N2X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Quick and Silver (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 2 Percy's Bluff (ML 9-2)
# 5 Outside Nashville (ML 3-1)

C's

None

Quick and Silver filled out the bottom rung of the Superfecta in the Lost in the Fog last time out, and looks to be best here.  Percy's Bluff and Outside Nashville, both trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, have both recently finished behind Quick and Silver; but both ran well enough to suggest that either (or both) could turn the tables today.

RACE 8 - (F) ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 6 Please Do (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 2 Hal's Buddy (ML 8-1)
# 5 Dahlia Azul (ML 10-1)
# 8 Strip It Down (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 4 Sheeza Sassy Girl (ML 9-2)

Please Do missed victory by just a neck at this class level last time out.  Hal's Buddy just didn't feel like running last time out; perhaps that will change today.

Dahlia Azul is jumping up quite a bit in class; but Trainer Jonathan Wong does so well when placing his last out winners that his opinion to send Dahlia Azul here must be respected.  Strip It Down closed well to graduate last time out, and could improve with the stretch out to two turns.

RACE 9 - Clm $12.5k N2X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Barton Lodge (Ire) (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 3 Night's Watch (ML 4-1)
# 6 Call Saul (ML 6-1)
# 7 Desert Express (ML 5-1)
# 8 The Ref (ML 10-1)

C's

None

Barton Lodge (Ire) has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his last two starts, both times behind next out winners.  Night's Watch may have needed that last race off the layoff.

Call Saul and Desert Express filled out the bottom two rungs of the Trifecta at this class level last time out.  The Ref enters this contest with a two race winning streak, albeit against lesser company.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 7 with 7 with 6 with 4 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 3,4,5,6,7 with 2,5,7 with 6 with 3,4,6,7,8 $37.50

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 7 with 7 with 2,5,8 with 4 $1.50

Total: $40.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 5:55 EDT / 2:55 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/10/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

It's Big 'Cap Day at Santa Anita, with a card featuring four Graded Stakes, including the $600k Santa Anita Handicap itself.  I'll be taking a look at that event below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 8 - (F) The China Doll $75k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Ms Bad Behavior (Morning Line 7-2)

B's

# 9 Ippodamia's Girl (ML 3-1)

C's

# 5 Slick Trick (ML 8-1)
# 11 Casino Red (Ire) (ML 6-1)
# 12 Proud Heroine (ML 15-1)

Scratch # 4 Californiagoldrush (ML 6-1)

Ms Bad Behavior took the Place in the Sweet Life last time out, and should be quick enough to take advantage of the rail draw.  Ippodamia's Girl, winner of the Blue Norther last time, is undefeated since having Jockey Rafael Bejarano get on her back.

Slick Trick and Proud Heroine are both recent graduates who look to be on the improve.  Casino Red (Ire), three back of Californiagoldrush at the wire last time out, could move up going second off the layoff.

RACE 9 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 12 Liberty Jack (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 3 Celebrate Life (ML 6-1)
# 4 Rocky's Show (ML 8-1)
# 5 Dad's a Gambler (ML 4-1)
# 9 Marvelous Max (ML 15-1)

C's

# 1 Gotta Get Lucky (ML 15-1)
# 6 Liberation (ML 15-1)

Scratch # 11 Bitte (ML 4-1)

Liberty Jack drops back to a more realistic class level for his abilities.  Celebrate Life, Rocky's Show, and Dad's a Gambler all finished in the Trifecta at this class level last time out.  Marvelous Max probably needed that last race after having been on the shelf for over a year.  If Marvelous Max can return to the form that he showed prior to getting injured, then he could be the one getting his picture taken when this contest is completed.

Gotta Get Lucky could improve with the cutback in distance.  Liberation could improve with a softer footing should the rains come as forecast.

RACE 10 - The Santa Anita Handicap (Grade 1) - Ten Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Fear the Cowboy (ML 3-1)

B's

# 7 Accelerate (ML 5-2)

C's

# 1 Top of the Game (ML 10-1)
# 2 Prime Attraction (ML 8-1)
# 3 Curlin Road (ML 12-1)
# 4 Giant Expectations (ML 5-1)
# 5 Hoppertunity (ML 7-2)
# 8 Mubtaahij (Ire) (ML 4-1)

Fear the Cowboy and Accelerate look to be the clear two best here; but it's fair to wonder about their ability to make the distance.  Top of the Game is on the ticket because everyone else is; because should both the top two contenders fail, then this becomes a wide open contest.

Prime Attraction could move up with a better trip.  Curlin Road could improve off the freshening.  Giant Expectations could be quickest in this field.

Hoppertunity can be expected to contend; but there doesn't appear to be enough pace for Hoppertunity to chase here.  Mubtaahij (Ire) may run to his full ability Saturday; if he does, he could win.  But running to his full ability is not something Mubtaahij can be reasonably expected to do.

RACE 11 - (F) MSW - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 12 Curlin's Journey (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 1 Hope Wins (ML 4-1)
# 3 Pacific Strike (ML 7-2)
# 5 Rancor (ML 5-1)
# 6 Heliocentricity (ML 20-1)

C's

None

Curlin's Journey could improve going third off the layoff.  Hope Wins took the Show at this class level last time out behind a next out winner.  Pacific Strike has taken the Show in each of her last two starts at this class level.

Rancor looks quickest here, and could be the controlling speed.  Heliocentricity adds the blinkers for her second career start; perhaps that will make the difference.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 12 with 6 with 12 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,9 with 3,4,5,9,12 with 6,7 with 1,3,5,6,12 $50.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 5,11,12 with 12 with 6 with 12 $1.50
$0.50 P4: 1 with 1,6 with 6 with 12 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 12 with 1,2,3,4,5,8 with 12 $3.00

Total: $56.50

Post Time for Race is 6:54 EST / 3:54 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/4/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 6 He'saruler (Final Odds 5.20) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 1 Spot N the Line (6.70) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 3 Rebarules Again (7.70) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 9 J T's A. T. M. (1.40*) - "A" Selection

As feared, after everything was said and done, J T's A. T. M. proved to be much the best in the nightcap, thus giving me my lone "A" Selection winner in the race where I punched the "ALL" button on the big ticket.  Greater confidence in J T's A. T. M.'s ability would have led to a better allocation of resources, which might have led to a more competitive play.  But such is just speculative; what's known for sure is that Sunday was a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  6 / 1 / 3 / 9  were rewarded with a payout of $599.95 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/4/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Closing out the weekend where I began, with the Sunday card at Golden Gate.  And since I have nothing to add by way of introduction let's just get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - Clm $8k B - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Preacher's Bluff (Morning Line 15-1)

B's

# 4 Macho Marini (ML 8-1)
# 6 He'saruler (ML 4-1)

C's

# 2 Storm Fashion (ML 9-2)
# 7 El Koreano (ML 3-1)

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since December 31, 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as an entrant has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If an entrant has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come in 2018 (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $6.25k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, all of these runners have visited the Winner's Circle at least four times in their career.

Preacher's Bluff took the Show at this class level behind a next out winner last time out.  Macho Marini crossed under the wire less than a length behind Preacher's Bluff last time out while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite.

He'saruler, going first time out for Trainer John Martin, will be making his debut at Golden Gate Sunday; though He'saruler has won multiple times over the Polytrack at Arlington Park.  Storm Fashion and El Koreano each notched wire-to-wire victories against lesser company last time out.

RACE 7 - Clm $6.25k B - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 6 Gotham Sky (ML 4-1)

B's

# 7 Top Drawer (ML 3-1)
# 8 Tribal Again (ML 5-2)

C's

None

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since December 31, 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as an entrant has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If an entrant has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come in 2018 (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $5k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, # 2 Looks Good N a Tux (ML 20-1) and # 4 Boleo (ML 20-1) are the only runners in this field to have gotten their picture taken fewer than four times.

Gotham Sky has three Wins in four tries since joining the barn of Trainer Jonathan Wong.  Top Drawer won by daylight last time out; Trainer Felix Rondan tends to do well when placing his last out winners.  Tribal Again fits well here on class, but seems to settle for too many minor awards.

RACE 8 - (F) ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 2 Vronilla Parfait (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 4 Peaked (ML 8-1)
# 5 Bezzy (ML 10-1)
# 7 Savannah Slew (GB) (ML 15-1)

Scratch # 8 Kelly (ML 7-2)

Vronilla Parfait took the Place at this class level last time out.  Peaked could be the one running best late.  Bezzy graduated last time out in her first try with blinkers off; perhaps that was the change that she needed.  Savannah Slew (GB) makes her North American debut here, and appears to be getting some class relief over the competition that she had been facing overseas.

RACE 9 - MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 9 J T's A. T. M. (ML 4-1)

B's

# 2 Snow Feather (ML 8-1)
# 3 Will Get Lucky (ML 20-1)
# 4 Legitimate Cause (ML 15-1)
# 5 Imalocomotive (ML 6-1)
# 6 Halfmoon Bearcat (ML 12-1)
# 7 Powerful Angrified (ML 15-1)
# 8 Fightinirishtabit (ML 3-1)
# 10 Autumn Day (ML 10-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 1 Lord Rayleigh (ML 7-2)

J T's A. T. M. has finished in the Trifecta in each of his three career starts, all at this class level.  But J T's A. T. M. has also backed up in the stretch in each of his three career starts, which isn't an encouraging sign.  Anyway, J T's A. T. M. looks best here, and after everything is said and done I may find myself regretting not making him a single instead of punching the "ALL" button.  But unfortunately they won't let me wager after everything is said and done; so this is the way I'm going to go.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 6 with 2 with 9 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,4,6 with 6,7,8 with 2 with ALL $40.50

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 2,7 with 6 with 2 with 9 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 6 with 4,5,7 with 9 $1.50

Total: $44.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:25 EST / 3:25 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/3/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 6 Mangita (Final Odds 3.40) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 5 Redneck Girl (1.70) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 4 The Perfect Square (6.30) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 8 Castle (5.30) - "B" Selection

I'll give Saturday's effort a "Fair" rather than "Poor" grade, as my single in the opening leg, # 4 Exactamente (0.70*) missed victory by just a head; while finding room on my tickets for The Perfect Square in the third leg would have required advance knowledge that # 1 Candy's Martini (2.70), who had finished well in front of The Perfect Square in each of the latter's prior two contests, would be pulled up and walked off in the early stages.  Or I could just say that I needed one over the track after having been playing dirt tracks most of 2018, and hope for better results next time out.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  6 / 5 / 4 / 8  were rewarded with a payout of $196.10 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

3/3/18 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

The rainy weather Arcadia, CA is currently experiencing makes for a nice excuse for me to change things up a bit; so for this weekend I'll be shifting my action upstate to Golden Gate, where the Tapeta surface stands stands up better than real dirt to the inclement weather.  So with that let's get to it, as I take a run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $8k B - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Exactamente (Morning Line 8-5)

B's

None

C's

# 3 Desert Smoke (ML 10-1)
# 6 Mangita (ML 2-1)

This contest is restricted to distaff runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since December 31, 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a filly or mare has fewer than four career Wins, she's eligible to run in this race.  If an entrant has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come in 2018 (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $6.25k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, # 3 Desert Smoke (ML 10-1) and # 5 Gold Finga (ML 5-2) are the only two runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

Exactamente crossed first under the wire nearly two lengths in front of a next out winner last time out.  Trainer Jonathan Wong tends to do well when placing his last out winners.

Desert Smoke likewise crossed first under the wire nearly two lengths in front of a next out winner last time out; but that contest came against lesser company, and for Desert Smoke's prior connections.  Mangita could improve off the class drop for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

RACE 7 - (F) Clm $10k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Foxy Lover (ML 9-5)
# 5 Redneck Girl (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 2 Copy Begone (ML 3-1)

C's

# 4 Elle Woods Too (ML 10-1)
# 6 Our Favorite City (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 1 Run Sophia Run (ML 9-2)

Foxy Lover and Redneck Girl have been taking turns beating each other to the wire of late, and both appear to be in top form.  Run Sophia Run seems to settle for too many minor awards; but Run Sophia Run did hold on to win last time out, and Trainer Samuel Calvario tends to do well with his last out winners.

Copy Begone ships in from the North, and could be tough to beat if she takes to the Tapeta surface.  Elle Woods Too has shown the ability to finish in front of the top contenders here in the past.  Our Favorite City is on the tickets because everyone else is.

RACE 8 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Candy's Martini (ML 3-1)
# 6 Red Car Mac (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 2 Confirmed (ML 9-2)
# 3 A New Trend (ML 2-1)

C's

None

Candy's Martini took the Place at this class level last time out.  Red Car Mac will be tough to beat if he can return to the form he showed before going on the shelf.

Confirmed graduated last time out in his first try on the synthetic surface; perhaps the Tapeta was the footing that he'd been looking for all along.  A New Trend ships in from downstate and is being priced to sell.  My instincts tell me that A New Trend probably needs one off the layoff, and besides, this isn't his best distance; but Trainer John Martin wins with too many of these to leave A New Trend off the big ticket.

RACE 9 - ALW N1X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 7 Excavation (ML 2-1)

B's

# 1 River of Champagne (ML 6-1)
# 8 Castle (ML 9-5)
# 9 Taelyns Prince (ML 6-1)

C's

# 4 Bountiful Desert (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 6 Monsajem Accrete (ML 20-1)

Excavation, Taelyns Prince, and River of Champagne filled out the bottom three slots of the Superfecta at this class level last time out.  Castle missed victory by a neck at this class level last time out, and Castle's breeding suggests that he should do well with the increase in real estate.  Bountiful Desert has either won or been within a neck of the winner at the wire in each of his last seven contests, albeit against lesser company.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 4 with 3,5 with 1,6 with 7 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 4 with 2,3,5 with 1,2,3,6 with 1,7,8,9 $24.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,6 with 3,5 with 1,6 with 7 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 4,6 with 1,6 with 7 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 3,5 with 1,6 with 4 $2.00

Total: $36.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:19 EST / 3:19 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
