10/26/19 Remington Park Primetime Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 3 Eurobadguy (Final Odds 1.10*) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 7 Alternate Time (9.70) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 4 Acosta (6.30) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 5 Brenda's Fever (6.70) - "B" Selection

Perhaps the blinkers made the difference, as there was no getting near Eurobadguy in the opening leg, as he won by nearly five lengths.  Brenda's Fever winning the nightcap made for a nice way to end the card, and serves as a reminder that class droppers rule.  Acosta is just one of things that happen when races come off the turf and the logical Favorite scratches; while first time starter Alternate Time ran like a well kept secret, getting under the wire in the second leg a head in front of Post Time Favorite (and "A" Selection) # 4 Tap Attack (0.80*).

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Primetime Pick Four sequence of  3 / 7 / 4 / 5  were rewarded with a payout of $522.10 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

10/26/19 Remington Park Primetime Pick Four - Preview

Can you believe it?  Day One of the Breeders' Cup is less than a week away!  So this will be my last shot at increasing my bankroll prior to that event.  Also, a programming note of sorts: Good Lord willing, this space will be focused on the Breeders' Cup next Friday and Saturday.  However, those of you who plan on also (or only) playing Remington Park those two days, please be aware that, while Friday's card (featuring the $100k Clever Trevor Stakes for two year olds) will begin at its usual time of 8:00 EDT / 5 PDT, Post Time Saturday, November 2, has been moved up to 2:30 EDT / 11:30 PDT.  So with all that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Primetime Pick Four at Remington Park.

Eurobadguy failed to make it into the Trifecta last time out at this class level while leaving the gate as the 9-10 Post Time Favorite.  That marks the second time in his six race career that Eurobadguy failed to finish in the money as the Post Time Favorite.  Perhaps adding the hood today will make a difference; but I'm not convinced.  So even though Eurobadguy looks best here, and is in my opinion too good to leave completely off the main ticket, I decided to go elsewhere for the top spot.

D C Hero is a debut runner who shows a nice, steady work tab since August.  The rail has been playing well at Remington Park this meet, which should offset any fears about a first time starter having to compete from the innermost post.

So D C Hero will be the "A" Selection in my play, over Eurobadguy.  Add What Thinking, who took the Place at this class level last time out, to the main ticket; while all others will be used as backup "C" Selections.

EDIT - Well, this race has been taken off the turf, and Theoryintopractice has been scratched.  So back to work.  

Valentine Street could be quickest here.  Bo Tee has finished in the Exacta in half his dirt track starts.  Attentive ran well in his last dirt race two starts back.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

So as long as a filly or mare has fewer than four career Wins, then she's eligible to run in this race.  If a distaff runner has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come in the last three months (note that races where the runner was entered for $4k or less don't count).  For the record Willtheresaway, Georgeouswitha G, Hey Roxy, and Lil Miss de Buy are the four runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.  And, as per usual at Remington Park, Oklahoma breds cost more; or, at least, they would if there were any running in this contest.

Willtheresaway seemed to wake up last time out with the drop in class.  Georgeouswitha G has been in the Exacta in each of her last three dirt tack starts.  Brenda's Fever is getting some much needed class relief here.

Lil Miss de Buy took the Place at this class level last time out.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

10/19/19 Remington Park Primetime Pick Four - Results

Not much good to say about a play where seventy-five percent of the winners weren't on the main ticket.  Still, there is some satisfaction in seeing a $26.80 "B" Selection find his way into the Winner's Circle; so the night wasn't a total washout.  But the bottom line is the bottom line; and it's probably best to just look at results like tonight's and say,

Oh well; onto the next race.

Friday night was Oklahoma Classics Night at Remington Park, and hopeful all of you got to watch and enjoy 2015 Oklahoma Derby winner Shotgun Kowboy win the Oklahoma Classics Cup for the fourth year in a row.  Congrats to Shotgun Kowboy and Owner, Breeder, and Trainer C.R. Trout on an outstanding accomplishment.  And with that news from Friday we move on to Saturday, as I take another run at The Primetime Pick Four at Remington Park.

Right Lane Lukasz and Molleck look best here, as both were recent winners against classier competition.  I'm giving the edge to Right Lane Lukasz because I think Right Lane Lukasz' late running style fits well in this field filled with front runners.  All other contestants will be used in my play as backup "C" Selections.

As is typical for Claiming Races at Remington Park, the price for Oklahoma breds is higher than it is for the rest of the field.  So if you're looking to purchase Ladie Go or Euroeast, it'll cost you $10k, rather than $7.5k.  However, Calculating King and Three Times Charmer are also Oklahoma breds; but their claiming price in the Past Performances (at least, in the PPs that I am using) is given as $7.5k.  So I'm not sure what that's all about; my most likely guess being that there was just an error in the PPs.  If anyone reading this should know the full story, please let us all know in the comments below.

Euroeast took the Place at this class level last time out.  Calculating King and Malibu Mo both graduated (in separate contests) last time out, and both seem capable of making it two Wins in a row.  Hot Harvey took the Show at this class level last time out, and Hot Harvey could improve off the freshening.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

Needless to say, the scratch of the Morning Line Favorite in this contest has made this a wide open affair.  It'll be interesting to see which way the wagering public chooses to go.

She Stops Traffic drops in for a tag for the first time in her career.  Special Sky could move up with the drop in class.  Fine Cut Diamond showed good earlier speed last time out in her first start of 2019.

Adverse Possession goes first off the claim for Trainer Stetson Mitchell, who tends to do well with such.  Affirmatif Star and She's Earthbound are two that fit well here and should contend; but I feel that they've had more than enough chances to graduate at this class level; so I'll be using those two, as well as the rest of the field, as backup "C" Selections.

Heavens Whisper, who disappointed last time out as the Post Time Favorite, should benefit greatly from the drop in class.  Don't Tell Lydia began her career by losing twelve straight starts.  Don't Tell Lydia has since won five in a row; albeit for different connections than the ones sending her to the post today.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

Polly Tiz has taken the Place at the this class level in each of her last two starts.  Okie Logic is a first time starter for Trainer Mike Biehler, who really doesn't win much with debut runners.  But Okie Logic had a nice five furlong work over this track last Saturday, and Okie Logic is sired by 2013 Preakness winner Oxbow, and her mare won multiple times; so, maybe.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

Note that the claiming price for Oklahoma bred runners in this race is $20k.  The Oklahoma bred entrants that you would have to pay an extra $5k to own are: My Coyn; Northern Dynasty; Sarala; and Smashbox.  

Fancy Fox ships in for Trainer Bret Calhoun, and she's getting some serious class relief here.  But Fancy Fox is routing for the first time here, as well as putting the blinkers on for the first time; so there is some room for caution here.

Gone Awry didn't show much in either of her two prior turf starts; but perhaps the added distance will make a difference.  Beryl's Flight took the Place at this class level two starts back.  Northern Dynasty seems to have the breeding to handle the move to the turf.
