10/29/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 7 Krsto Skye (Final Odds 1.10*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 2 Holdthismiss (2.90) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 4 Belisarius (Ire) (7.30) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 10 Hot Lightning (2.20) - "B" Selection

Among the final decisions I made when putting together Sunday's play was to single Krsto Skye on the big ticket in the opening leg, shifting # 2 Soap Box (2.80) from a "B" Selection to a "C" Selection.  When Krsto Skye won the photo to take Race 6, that was proven to be the right move.

Also among my final decisions was to relegate # 5 Macho Marini (2.10*) in the second leg to backup status as a "C" Selection.  At first, I was planning on using Macho Marini as an "A" Selection, based upon his wide margin of victory in his last race, his prior record over the Golden Gate main track, and Trainer John Martin's success with last out winners in the claiming ranks.  As can be seen by Macho Marini's status as the Post Time Favorite, more than a few punters agreed with my initial assessment.  But I ultimately decided that Macho Marini's speed just wasn't up to par with his classier opponents, so I dropped Macho Marini from an "A" Selection to a "C" Selection.  When Macho Marini had to settle for the Show, that was proven to be the right move.

In the third leg I decided in the final analysis that Belisarius (Ire) simply did not deserve a spot on the big ticket.  As I mentioned in the preview, Belisarius is a very talented horse; but a very talented horse that consistently fails to run to his full ability, as evidenced by his lifetime record of one-for-twenty-five on the turf entering Sunday's action.  Well, Belisarius is now two-for-twenty-six lifetime on the turf, and my decision to leave him off the big ticket was proven to be the wrong one.

Oh well; onto the next race.

For the record, here is the $0.50 Will Pay for the runner to which I would have cashed in the finale:

# 9 Zarqa Star (1.10*) - $84.35 Finish: 4th

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  7 / 2 / 4 / 10  were rewarded with a payout of $101.95 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/29/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Following a Saturday card where seventy-five percent of the final four races were written for distaff runners, the ending quartet on Sunday's card will be of the all-male variety.  And that's pretty much all I have by way of introduction; so let's just get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - Alw 8000s - Five Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 7 Krsto Skye (Morning Line 7-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 2 Soap Box (ML 3-1)
# 4 Thirty Pepperonis (ML 5-1)
# 5 You Play the Bench (ML 9-2)
# 6 Kochees (ML 7-2)

Note for future reference that this event has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any runner that has started for a claiming price of $8k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Krsto Skye, a Listed Stakes winner sprinting over this turf course back in June, holds a clear class edge over the rest of this field.  Soap Box took the Place behind a next out winner last time out.  Soap Box could be the speed of the speed here, and find himself with a nice rail trip, leading the pack in the early going.

Thirty Pepperonis and You Play the Bench filled out the Exacta at Santa Rosa the last time they competed on some California grass.  Kochees returns from an extended vacation, so it's possible that Trainer Blaine Wright may just want to give him a race on the softer surface before moving Kochees to the synthetic main track, where this runner has enjoyed most of his success.  But if Kochees is ready he certainly fits well with the contenders here, and Kochees' back class could be a determining factor in this contest.

RACE 7 - Clm $10k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Holdthismiss (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 3 Next Speaker (ML 7-2)

C's

# 1 Reasonable Pride (ML 3-1)
# 5 Macho Marini (ML 9-2)

Holdthismiss returns from downstate, and should appreciate the class relief.  The last time Next Speaker competed over this main track, he hit the wire a head in front of Holdthismiss.  Reasonable Pride was victorious at this class level two starts back.  Macho Marini won by as many as he wanted to last time out; Trainer John Martin tends to do well when placing his last out winners.

RACE 8 - Clm $12.5k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Eddie and the King (ML 12-1)
# 3 Pepper Crown (ML 7-2)
# 7 Abbey Vale (Ire) (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 2 Solomon Bay (ML 4-1)
# 5 Awesome Return (ML 9-2)

C's

# 4 Belisarius (Ire) (ML 6-1)

Eddie and the King is the only runner in this field to have finished in the Trifecta last time out, and he could improve with a return to the lawn.  Pepper Crown and Abbey Vale (Ire) are two that could improve with the drop in class.

Solomon Bay was victorious at this class level two starts back.  Awesome Return was a winner in his only prior try over this turf course.  Perhaps today is the day that Belisarius (Ire) finally overcomes his camera shyness and runs to his full ability.

RACE 9 - ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 9 Zarqa Star (ML 2-1)

B's

# 2 Stellar Sea (ML 8-1)
# 3 Sunset Dragunn (ML 15-1)
# 6 Fiddler Goldseeker (ML 12-1)
# 10 Hot Lightning (ML 3-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 1 Oil (ML 4-1), # 4 Blue Ridge Storm (ML 20-1), and # 5 Skidoo (ML 20-1)

Zarqa Star ships in from downstate and should appreciate the class relief.  Note that Zarqa was victorious in his only prior try over this main track.  Stellar Sea took the Show at this class level last time out.  Sunset Dragunn looks to be fast enough to handle the class jump; and if his early speed holds up, Sunset Dragunn just may be the one that they'll have to catch to cash.

Fiddler Goldseeker took the Place at this class level last time out; and while last time out for Fiddler Goldseeker was over a year ago, he seems to have been working well for his return.  Hot Lightning has finished in the Exacta the last three times that he competed at this class level.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 7 with 2 with 1,3,7 with 9 $3.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 7 with 2,3 with 1,2,3,5,7 with 2,3,6,9,10 $25.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 2,4,5,6 with 2 with 1,3,7 with 9 $6.00
$0.50 P4: 7 with 1,5 with 1,3,7 with 9 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 7 with 2 with 4 with 9 $0.50

Total: $37.50

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:35 EDT / 3:35 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/28/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 3 Smoke and Burn (Final Odds 5.90) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - The Pike Place Dancer - # 4 Multiplayer (1,10*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 1 Mother of Dragons (4.20) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 6 Passionate Emotion (2.70) - "B" Selection

In the opening leg, # 1 Red Car Mac (1.20*) and # 2 Twice as Fast (2.30) got hooked up in a speed duel right out of the gate, with Twice as Fast putting Red Car Mac away in the turn and getting a clear lead in the stretch.  In my preview, I had hoped that "B" Selection # 5 Endless Mile would be the one running best late; but Endless Mile was a gate scratch, so he wasn't running at all.  Instead Smoke and Burn was the one who came charging through the drive, nipping Twice as Fast at the wire by a nose.  And that nose was the difference Saturday between me collecting or contributing, as the next three winners were all on the big ticket.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  3 / 4 / 1 / 6  were rewarded with a payout of $299.95 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/28/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Saturday's featured race at Golden Gate Fields is the Pike Place Dancer, a mile turf route for two year old fillies.  I'll be looking at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) Alw 40000s N2L - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Red Car Mac (Morning Line 8-5)

B’s

# 2 Twice as Fast (ML 9-2)
# 5 Endless Mile (ML 5-1)
# 6 Looks Good N a Tux (ML 7-2)

C's

# 3 Smoke and Burn (ML 6-1)

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass by having one (and just one) win not considered, if one of their two career wins was for $16k or less.  For the record, none of the runners in this field have visited the winner's circle more than once; so this contest is very much for non-winners of two lifetime.

Red Car Mac has taken the Place at this class level in each of his last two outings.  Twice as Fast had a rough go of it last time out, and could move up with a better trip today.  Endless Mile took the Show behind Red Car Mac last time out, and could be the one running best late.

Looks Good N a Tux could improve with the return to one turn racing.  Smoke and Burn took the Show at this class level last time out.

RACE 7 - (F) The Pike Place Dancer $75k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 Multiplayer (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Blessed Lady (ML 2-1)
# 7 Neon Gypsy (ML 9-2)

C's

# 3 Cash Cannon (ML 20-1)
# 9 Little Doe (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 5 Amers (ML 8-1)

Multiplayer and Cash Cannon are the only two runners here to have won on the turf; Cash Cannon's victory having come in her debut last time out in the maiden claiming ranks.  Multiplayer took the Show in the Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf two starts back.  Blessed Lady is a perfect two-for-two in her career, though both races were sprints on surfaces other than grass.

Neon Gypsy was a winner sprinting on the synthetic in her debut last time out.  Little Doe, victorious in the Wine Country Debutante at Santa Rosa two starts back, will be trying turf and two turn racing for the first time.

RACE 8 - (F) ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 9 Motutapu (ML 9-2)

B's

# 1 Mother of Dragons (ML 7-2)
# 5 Spring Heat (ML 5-1)

C's

# 6 Papaclem'smidnight (ML 6-1)
# 10 Hot in the City (ML 6-1)

Motutapu enters this contest with a two race winning streak and is clearly the horse for the course, having won four of her five races over this main track.  Mother of Dragons took the Show in an N1X Optional Claimer downstate last time out.  Spring Heat was a winner over the real dirt at Fresno at this class level last time out.

Papaclem'smidnight was a winner at this class level the last time that she competed over this main track.  Hot in the City ships in from downstate, and could move up with the change in scenery.

RACE 9 - (F) Clm $12.5k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Goliath's Girl (ML 3-1)
# 4 Irish Luck (ML 5-1)

B’s

# 6 Passionate Emotion (ML 7-2)

C's

# 3 Forest Wildflower (ML 8-1)
# 7 Cinzia (ML 8-1)
# 9 Swiss Script (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 11 Lirica Heat (Arg) (ML 8-1)

Goliath's Girl and Passionate Emotion filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta last time out, against somewhat classier company.  Irish Luck took the Show against $12.5 claimers sans conditions last time out; so this is a pretty significant class drop for Irish Luck.

Forest Wildflower could move up with the class drop.  Cinzia won by as many as she wanted to in her last start over this main track (albeit against lesser company) and could work out a nice stalking trip behind the leaders.  Swiss Script fits well here on class, though she's had trouble holding her form in her two prior tries over this main track.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 4 with 9 with 2,4 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2,5,6 with 1,4,7 with 1,5,9 with 2,4,6 $54.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3 with 4 with 9 with 2,4 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 3,9 with 9 with 2,4 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 4 with 6,10 with 2,4 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 4 with 9 with 3,7,9 $1.50

Total: $62.50

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:35 EDT / 3:35 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Jimbo

10/27/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 5 - # 4 Lady Chrome (Final Odds 4.30) - "C" Selection
Race 6 - # 1 Playing Through (1.50*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 7 Union Wine (13.00) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 4 Central Heat (1.50*) - "A" Selection

Union Wine's form held Friday despite the rise in class and change in surface.  That happens sometimes.  Sometimes I even have it when it does.  Friday was not one of those times.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  4 / 1 / 7 / 4  were rewarded with a payout of $412.55 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/27/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Found myself with some free time this Friday afternoon; and what better way to spend it than playing the ponies?  It's closing weekend for Santa Anita in Southern California; were it opening weekend for Del Mar I would probably be playing there the next few days, just to get a few in over the track prior to The Breeders' Cup, which is just a week from today.  But the place where the turf meets the surf doesn't begin its Bing Crosby Meet until Wednesday, November 1; so I'll be keeping my action this weekend at Golden Gate Fields.  So with all that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 5 - (F) Alw 40000s N2L - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 No Spin Zone (Morning Line 2-1)

B’s

# 3 Our Renee (ML 6-1)
# 5 Table for Three (ML 7-2)

C's

# 2 My Foolish Heart (ML 12-1)
# 4 Lady Chrome (ML 5-2)

Note for future reference that this one is for fillies and mares which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass by having one (and just one) win not considered, if one of their two career wins was for $16k or less.  For the record, # 1 No Spin Zone and # 2 My Foolish Heart are the only runners in this field to have visited the winner's circle multiple times.

No Spin Zone has finished in the Trifecta (including one victory) at this class level in each of her last four starts.  Our Renee was a length behind No Spin Zone at the wire last time out; perhaps Our Renee can make up that distance Friday with No Spin Zone on the rail; as No Spin Zone isn't particularly quick, and therefore may find herself trapped inside if Jockey Juan Hernandez isn't careful.

Table for Three ships in from downstate and should appreciate the class relief.  My Foolish Heart, as mentioned above, is the only runner here besides No Spin Zone to have defeated winners.  Lady Chrome may move up off the freshening and with the return to one turn racing.

RACE 6 - Md $32k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Playing Through (ML 2-1)
# 6 Iwishiwaspecial (ML 4-1)

B's

# 2 High Rize (ML 6-1)
# 10 Trust N Liberty (ML 6-1)

C's

# 8 Cook Up a Storm (ML 9-2)

Scratch # 3 Askin' for Trouble (ML 15-1)

Playing Through took the Show against non-claiming maidens last the out.  The concern is that Playing Through will be trying grass and two turns for the first time Friday, and that just may be a bit too much to ask of this juvenile.

Iwishiwaspecial took the Place at this class level last time out.  High Rize and Trust N Liberty are a pair trained by Steve Sherman.  High Rize tries turf for the first time, and his breeding looks like he should handle it well; while Trust N Liberty showed good early speed against non-claiming maidens on the grass last time out.  Cook Up a Storm took the Show behind Iwishiwaspecial last time out.

RACE 7 - Clm $5k N2X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Dizzy Dancer (ML 9-2)

B’s

# 4 Woody's Folly (ML 2-1)
# 5 Dynamite Ride (ML 6-1)
# 8 Aglimpseofgabby (ML 3-1)

C's

# 2 West Coast Indy (ML 10-1)

Dizzy Dancer takes a step down on the class ladder after finishing in the Trifecta against more expensive stock in each of his last two starts.  Woody's Folly ships in from downstate and should appreciate the class relief.

Dynamite Ride took the Place at this class level last time out, albeit on the real dirt at Pleasanton.  Aglimpseofgabby is another invader from Southern California who could improve with the change of scenery.  West Coast Indy may be able to hold form with the class rise.

RACE 8 - (F) OC 62.5k/N2X - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 Central Heat (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 1 Charming Starlet (ML 7-2)

C's

# 7 Fiery Lady (ML 6-1)
# 10 Causeway Carolyn (ML 15-1)

Scratch # 3 Fervent Femme (ML 9-2)

Central Heat was victorious at this class level last time out, with Charming Starlet taking the Show just a length behind.  Fiery Lady is a lifetime three-for-three on the grass, albeit against lesser company.  Causeway Carolyn could improve with the stretchout in distance.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 1,6 with 3 with 4 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,3,5 with 1,2,6,10 with 3,4,5,8 with 1,4 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 2,4 with 1,6 with 3 with 4 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 8 with 3 with 4 $0.50
$5.50 P4: 1 with 1,6 with 2 with 4 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 1 with 1,6 with 3 with 7,10 $2.00

Total: $55.50

Post Time for Race 5 is 5:45 EDT / 2:45 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/22/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 9 Former Graduate (Final Odds 6.40) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 8 American Aristocat (1.80*) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 8 Cash Limit (1.20*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 6 Manila Mischief (5.80) - "B" Selection

My "A" Selection in the opening leg, # 1 Cool Hunter (0.90*), led the way through the early going, but was through when the field hit the stretch, and had to settle for fourth.  Meanwhile, my "B" Selection, # 4 Zoristo (3.20) was well positioned to pick up the pieces; but Zoristo could do no better than second, as he was outfinished by Former Graduate, who came on from seventh, seven lengths back with a half mile to go, to win by three quarters of a length.  And that three quarters of a length was the difference Sunday between me cashing or trashing my tickets.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  9 / 8 / 8 / 6  were rewarded with a payout of $211.95 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/22/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Two maiden claimers on the main track, and two contests on the turf; that's how the final four races at Golden Gate Fields breaks down on Sunday.  So with that as introduction let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - Md $8k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Cool Hunter (Morning Line 2-1)

B's

# 4 Zoristo (ML 5-2)

C's

# 6 Let's Havanuther (ML 8-1)
# 7 The Ice Box Kid (ML 6-1)

# 9 Former Graduate (ML 7-2)

Cool Hunter ships in from downstate, and should appreciate the class relief.  Expect Cool Hunter to be speed on the rail early.

Zoristo will try to prove that the sixteenth time's the charm, as he seeks to overcome his penchant for settling for minor awards.  On the positive side, this is the cheapest price tag that Zoristo has ever been offered for, and Zoristo's form does look much better if you eliminate his tries over a Fast dirt track.

Let's Havanuther took the Place at this class level last time out; though it's fair to wonder if Let's Havanuther wants any part of two turn racing.

The Ice Box Kid, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, took the Show at this class level last time out while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite.  Former Graduate tries the synthetic for the first time, and could move up with the drop in class.

RACE 7 - Clm $6.25k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 Small Town Cop (ML 7-2)
# 6 Sizzlin' Joe (ML 6-1)
# 7 Gurnick (ML 9-2)

B’s

# 1 Hittheroadrunning (ML 6-1)
# 4 Greeley Awesome (ML 20-1)
# 5 Danas Best (ML 5-1)
# 8 American Aristocat (ML 5-2)

C's

None

Scratch # 3 Neptune's Spear (ML 10-1)

Small Town Cop defeated several of these two starts back, the last time that he was on the turf.  Sizzlin' Joe may be sitting on a big one.  The "B" Selections are everyone else, as this looks like a field lacking a legitimate standout, where they all just keep taking turns getting their picture taken.

RACE 8 - Md $25k - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 8 Cash Limit (ML 2-1)

B's

# 7 A Little Bit Cocky (ML 5-2)

C's

# 4 Could Be the One (ML 6-1)
# 5 English Investor (ML 6-1)
# 6 Lucky Cleric (ML 4-1)

Scratch # 2 Tiz Amazing Bud (ML 20-1)

Cash Limit drops in for a tag for the first time after having finished in the Trifecta against non-claiming maidens in two of his three career tries.  A Little Bit Cocky has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his last two starts.

Could Be the One could move up with the return to synthetic.  English Investor is a first time starter in a field where none of the runners appear to be world beaters.  Lucky Cleric took the Show against non-claiming maidens in his debut at Santa Rosa in August.

RACE 9 - Clm $12.5k N2X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 9 Nowhere Man (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 1 Call Saul (ML 4-1)
# 6 Manila Mischief (ML 9-2)

C's

# 4 Smoked too Many (ML 8-1)
# 5 Barton Lodge (Ire) (ML 6-1)

Nowhere Man goes first time for the barn of Trainer Bill Delia, who tends to do well with such.  Nowhere Man should improve with the drop in class.

Call Saul has taken the Place at this class level in three of his last four races, all for this claiming price or higher.  Manila Mischief, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, drops in for a tag for the first time in his career.  Smoked too Many and Barton Lodge (Ire) are coming into this contest off victories against lesser competition.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 1 with 2,6,7 with 8 with 9 $3.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,4 with ALL with 7,8 with 1,6,9 $42.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6,7,9 with 2,6,7 with 8 with 9 $4.50
$0.50 P4: 1 with 2,6,7 with 4,5,6 with 9 $4.50
$0.50 P4: 1 with 2,6,7 with 8 with 4,5 $3.00

Total: $57.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:20 EDT / 3:20 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/21/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 4 Shypen (GB) (Final Odds 19.20) - "C" Selection*
Race 7 - # 4 We're Just Sayin (1.50*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 4 Lovenseek (5.40) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 1 Coachwhip (2.50) - "C" Selection

* # 7 Alliford Bay (2.30*), "B" Selection, crossed under the wire first, but was disqualified and placed 4th

The disqualification in the opening leg in no way changes my bottom line, as a clean win by Alliford Bay still leaves me with all the winners in my play, but not all the winners on any one ticket.  The big disappointment was, of course, the failure of my big ticket single, # 1 Broken Up (2.00*) to reach the line first in the third leg, as he took the Place, over two lengths back of the winner.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  4 / 4 / 4 / 1  were rewarded with a payout of $1,156.15 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/21/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

It's opening weekend at Golden Gate Fields, with today being the first Saturday of the Autumn Meet.  However, despite the meet still being in its infancy, the Golden Pick Six pool has already been scooped, with one lucky bettor collecting $7,765.62 Friday on their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

So, with the Jackpot Pick Six carryover pool currently sitting at zero, I'm going to lighten my workload by focusing my attention on just the final four races on the card.  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) ALW NC - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 2 Isa Firecracker (Morning Line 6-1)
# 5 Fast and Foxy (ML 9-2)

B's

# 1 Emmy and I (ML 6-1)
# 3 Deb's Wildcard (ML 8-1)
# 7 Alliford Bay (ML 5-2)
# 8 Princess Ashlyn (ML 2-1)

C's

# 4 Shypen (GB) (ML 20-1)
# 6 Propeppy (ML 20-1)

There are no conditions for this allowance race; so if you have a filly or mare, three years old or upward, and you wanted to run her here, you could have done so.

Isa Firecracker didn't show much in her recent journeys downstate, but she's a perfect three-for-three lifetime over this main track.  Fast and Foxy, who finished in the Trifecta in each of her last two starts on the California Fairgrounds circuit, should improve with the return to her preferred surface.

Emmy and I is another that could move up with the return to the synthetic.  Deb's Wildcard seems to be rounding into top form.  Alliford Bay has down little wrong in her four race career.  Princess Ashlyn defeated several of these last time out, albeit on real dirt.  A concern with Princess Ashlyn is that she is zero-for-three lifetime when competing on a synthetic surface.

Shypen (GB), making her North American debut, was a stakes winner on the synthetic overseas.  Propeppy is on my tickets because every other runner in this field is.

RACE 7 - Alw 40000s N2L - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 We're Just Sayin (ML 9-5)

B’s

# 5 Kittenmeister (ML 5-2)

C's

# 2 Whisky N Roses (ML 10-1)
# 6 Singaprayer (ML 12-1)
# 7 Reno Johnny (ML 12-1)
# 8 Max the Kitty (ML 10-1)

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass by having one (and just one) win not considered, if one of their two career wins was for $16k or less.  For the record, # 8 Max the Kitty (ML 10-1) is the only runner in this field to have visited the winner's circle multiple times.

We're Just Sayin missed victory by just a neck last time out over this turf course at today's distance.  Kittenmeister could be the one running best late.

Whisky N Roses could move up going third off the layoff; but Whisky N Roses' oh-for-eight lifetime record on the grass is a concern.  Singaprayer has performed well in each of his prior turf starts.  Reno Johnny could be quickest here, and may be the one that they'll have to run down.  Max the Kitty, as mentioned above, is the only runner here with two career Wins, though neither victory came while competing on the grass.

RACE 8 - OC 32k/N1X - Eight and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Broken Up (ML 5-2)

B’s

None

C's

# 4 Lovenseek (ML 7-2)
# 6 Sonneteer (ML 9-2)

# 7 Bronzino (Fr) (ML 10-1)

Broken Up, trained by John Martin, took the Show against classier competition last time out, albeit on the dirt at Sacramento.  Broken Up is a lifetime four-for-six over this main track, and looks to be very much the one to beat here.

Lovenseek, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, looks to be on the wrong surface, as all of Lovenseek's career Wins have come on the grass.  But Lovenseek can certainly win going around two turns, and he should at the least be an early pace presence.

Sonneteer took the Show in the Super Derby down in Louisiana two starts back.  Bronzino (Fr) could move up with the return to the synthetic.

RACE 9 - (F) MSW - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 Tiz My Love (ML 3-1)
# 5 Austria (ML 6-1)
# 8 A Lucky Carry (ML 5-2)

B's

# 2 C C Rocks (ML 10-1)
# 7 One Eyed Mama (ML 9-2)

# 9 Irish Streetsinger (ML 20-1)

C's

# 1 Coachwhip (ML 4-1)
# 3 Flir Power (ML 20-1)
# 6 Holladay Visit (ML 20-1)

Tiz My Love and A Lucky Carry, both trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, fit well here on class, and both could improve with their second try on the grass.  Austria took the Place at this class level last time out over this turf course, a half length in front of A Lucky Carry.

C C Rocks took the Show last time out in her first try on the turf, albeit with a price tag on her head.  One Eyed Mama could move up with the surface change and added real estate.  Irish Streetsinger is a first time start who looks well bred for the grass.

Flir Power, sired by Heatseeker (Ire), should improve with the move to the turf.  Coachwhip and Holladay Visit are on the ticket because, well, why not.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2,5 with 4 with 1 with 4,5,8 $6.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2,3,5,7,8 with 4,5 with 1 with 2,4,5,7,8,9 $36.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 4,6 with 4 with 1 with 4,5,8 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 2,5 with 2,6,7,8 with 1 with 4,5,8 $12.00
$0.50 P4: 2,5 with 4 with 4,6,7 with 4,5,8 $9.00
$0.50 P4: 2,5 with 4 with 1 with 1,3,6 $3.00

Total: $69.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:18 EDT / 3:18 PDT.  Good luck to all.

10/15/17 Fresno Gold Rush Pick Six - Results

Race 3 - # 2 Awhitesportscoat (Final Odds 1.00*) - "A" Selection
Race 4 - # 2 Bolt Up (0.10*) - "A" Selection
Race 5 - # 6 Two Steps of Glory (3.70) - "A" Selection
Race 6 - # 1 Ralph Jacobs (0.50*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - The Bull Dog - # 8 Seattle Serenade (7.30) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 7 Stocked (3.00) - "A" Selection

Seattle Serenade had finished well back of both # 7 Force (Ire) (1.90*) and # 5 G. G. Ryder (3.70) his previous time out in The Rolling Green.  But whatever Seattle Serenade had lacked that day he found today, crossing under the wire a head in front of # 3 Street Moxie (9.90) to win the Bull Dog Handicap.

For the record, here are the $0.20 Will Pays for the other three runners to which I would have cashed in the finale:

# 1 Thrilling Ron (17.70) - $792.94 Finish: 6th
# 3 Hedoesitinstyle (2.60) - $146.90 Finish: 3rd
# 4 Call the Boss (0.90*) - $73.58 Finish: 2nd

But that's what might have been.  What actually came to be was a correct Gold Rush Pick Six sequence of  2 / 2 / 6 / 1 / 8 / 7  which paid $169.12 for a twenty cent wager.  That makes for a profit of $112.72 on the initial $56.40 investment, or approximate odds of 2.00-1.  Considering the three winning Post Time Favorites were even money or less, that's not too shabby a payout.

I hope you all had it with me.  May God bless us as we spend our winnings.

Onto the next race!

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/15/17 Fresno Gold Rush Pick Six - Preview

Sunday is closing day, not just for Fresno, but for the entire 2017 California State Fair meet; and that means everything must go, including the Gold Rush Pick Six Jackpot (currently sitting at $19,985).  So with a mandatory payout as incentive let's get to it, as I take another run at The Gold Rush Pick Six at The Big Fresno Fair.

RACE 3 - MSW - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Awhitesportscoat (Morning Line 8-5)

B's

# 3 Seau (ML 9-5)

C's

# 1 Dark and Dandy (ML 8-1)

Awhitesportscoat took the Place last time out against non-claiming maidens on the synthetic main track at Golden Gate.  Seau took the Show up at Emerald Downs while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite last time out.  Dark and Dandy is a first time starter who had a nice five furlong work over at Golden Gate back in early September, and could be well meant here (else why not just save him a few days to run at Golden Gate?).

RACE 4 - (F) Clm $5k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Bolt Up (ML 1-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 3 Cacica Dulima (ML 2-1)

Bolt Up, trained by Jonathan Wong, won by as many as she wanted to on Columbus Day, after having taken the Place at this class level two starts back.  Cacica Dulima, the "other" Wong, could improve with the turn back in distance.

RACE 5 - (F) Clm $3.2k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Two Steps of Glory (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 1 Misty Moni (ML 5-1)
# 2 Unwanted (ML 9-5)
# 4 Secret Agent Girl (ML 5-2)

C's

None

Two Steps of Glory took the Place at this class level last time out on Columbus Day.  Misty Moni graduated last time out over this main track after shipping in from downstate.  Misty Moni just might be the quickest in this field.

Unwanted has disappointed in each of her last two starts against more expensive stock, and could benefit from the class relief.  Secret Agent Girl could move up with the change in barn.

RACE 6 - Md $5k - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Ralph Jacobs (ML 7-5)

B's

None

C's

# 5 Colony's Pepper (ML 8-1)
# 6 Mister Charmer (ML 3-1)

Ralph Jacobs took the Show against more expensive stock downstate last time out.  Ralph Jacobs will be going first time for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.

Colony's Pepper is a first time starter from a dam who has produced three winners from four starters.  Mister Charmer took the Place at this class level last time out.

RACE 7 - The Bull Dog $50k - Nine Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 G. G. Ryder (ML 3-1)
# 7 Force (Ire) (ML 5-2)

B's

# 2 Point Piper (ML 5-1)
# 4 Street Lad (ML 9-2)
# 6 Dixie Pistol (ML 8-1)
# 8 Seattle Serenade (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 Pass Due Payment (ML 20-1)
# 3 Street Moxie (ML 12-1)

G. G. Ryder, a stakes winner on the Santa Rosa turf two starts back, tries real dirt for the first time for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who tend to do well when moving his runners between the two surfaces.  Force (Ire) won the Rolling Green on the Golden Gate turf last time out, over three lengths in front of G. G. Ryder.

Point Piper, Street Lad, and Seattle Serenade are the other three runners in this field trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.  Dixie Pistol, stepping up in class, could be the speed of the speed.  The "C" Selections are the rest of the field because, why not?

RACE 8 - Md $25k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Thrilling Ron (ML 12-1)
# 3 Hedoesitinstyle (ML 4-1)
# 4 Call the Boss (ML 9-5)
# 7 Stocked (ML 3-1)

B's

None

C's

None

Scratch # 6 Chief Barbara (ML 6-1)

Hedoesitinstyle took the Place against cheaper last time out, and should have enough early speed to handle the rise in class today.  Call the Boss, trained by John Martin, runs with a price tag on his head for the first time in his career.

Stocked has taken the Place in each of his two prior career starts, and could improve with the change in surface.  Thrilling Ron is a first time starter from a dam who has produced four runners from five starters.

OK, that's the analysis.  As mentioned above, it's a mandatory payout day, so there are no worries about pressing up a potential single winning combination ticket.  So, with all that, playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 2 with 2 with 6 with 1 with 5,7 with 1,3,4,7 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 2,3 with 2 with 1,2,4,6 with 1 with 2,4,5,6,7,8 with 1,3,4,7 $38.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 1 with 2 with 6 with 1 with 5,7 with 1,3,4,7 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 2 with 3 with 6 with 1 with 5,7 with 1,3,4,7 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 6 with 5,6 with 5,7 with 1,3,4,7 $3.20
$0.20 P6: 2 with 2 with 6 with 1 with 1,3 with 1,3,4,7 $1.60

Total: $56.40

Post Time for Race 3 is 4:45 EDT / 1:45 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

10/14/17 Fresno Gold Rush Pick Six - Results

Race 4 - # 3 Contessa B. (Final Odds 3.50) - "B" Selection
Race 5 - # 1 Frankie (1.20*) - "B" Selection
Race 6 - # 2 Gummy (1.20*) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 4 Kern Ridge (11.30) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 5 Carville (2.00*) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 5 Wise Tale (0.50*) - "B" Selection

Kern Ridge, the longest shot on the board in Race 7, wired the field while being nowhere to be found on my tickets; a key reason why Saturday was a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Gold Rush Pick Six sequence of  3 / 1 / 2 / 4 / 5 / 5  were rewarded with a payout of $148.46 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/14/17 Fresno Gold Rush Pick Six - Preview

We've come to the final weekend of the 2017 California State Fair circuit, the last two days of thoroughbred racing on a real dirt track in Northern California until 2018.  So with that as backdrop let's get to it, as I take another run at The Gold Rush Pick Six at The Big Fresno Fair.

RACE 4 - (F) Clm $4k B - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Winter's Nest (Morning Line 2-1)

B's

# 2 Hallie Jae (ML 9-5)
# 3 Contessa B. (ML 7-2)
# 4 Bench Ruling (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 1 Blooming Hannah (ML 9-2)

This contest is restricted to fillies and mares which have either:

1) Not won a race since August 1, 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a distaff runner has fewer than four career Wins, she's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come since the end of July (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $3.5k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, # 1 Blooming Hannah (ML 9-2) and # 5 Winter's Nest (ML 2-1) are the two runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

Winter's Nest was victorious at this approximate class level last time out (higher price tag, but N2X) in front of a next out winner.  Hallie Jae, who has disappointed as the Post Time Favorite in each of her last two races, is on the ticket because everyone else is.  Contessa B. defeated Winter's Nest at Sacramento back in July.  Bench Ruling has won two of her three career races over this track.

RACE 5 - (F) Md $5k - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Sharemyway (ML 2-1)

B's

# 1 Frankie (ML 7-5)

C's

# 2 Gunny (ML 7-2)
# 4 Papa Said Ya (ML 10-1)

Sharemyway missed graduation by just a neck last time out at this class level.  Frankie took the Place at this class level two starts back.  Frankie has finished in the Trifecta in each of her two career starts on a Fast dirt track.

Gunny will be attempting to prove that the twenty-ninth's time is the charm.  She may very well be the most talented runner in this field; but Gunny has demonstrated a refusal on multiple occasions to be the first to cross under the wire.  Papa Said Ya is a first time starter in a field where the experienced runners aren't all that impressive.

RACE 6 - Clm $3.2k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Gummy (ML 9-5)
# 4 Whatahandsomecat (ML 2-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 The Gotham Year (ML 6-1)
# 5 Little Mustard (ML 3-1)

Gummy ships in from downstate and goes first time for the barn of Trainer Jonathan Wong, who tends to do well with such.  Whatahandsomecat took the Place just six days ago in his first career try over a Fast dirt track.

The Gotham Year could be the one running best late.  Little Mustard fits well here on class, though real dirt is not Little Mustard's preferred surface.

RACE 7 - Clm $12.5k N2X - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Weyand (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 1 Prince Charmant (ML 5-2)

C's

# 5 Bargaining (ML 4-1)

Scratch # 3 Bunker Buster (ML 8-1)

Weyand has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his last two starts.  Prince Charmant could be the one running best late.  Bargaining could be quick enough to contend even with the class rise.

RACE 8 - Clm $16k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Freddies Dream (ML 5-1)
# 7 King Budrick (ML 4-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 2 Canada (ML 8-1)
# 3 Drouillard (ML 3-1)
# 5 Carville (ML 9-5)

Freddies Dream ships in from downstate after taking the Show last time out for this claiming price.  King Budrick could improve with the return from downstate and with the blinkers being put back on.

Canada has been showing steady improvement in each of his last three dirt starts.  Drouillard defeated more expensive last time out, but that was on the turf at Golden Gate.  Carville goes first off the claim for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.

RACE 9 - Clm $2.5k - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Zoe's Cajun (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 5 Wise Tale (ML 8-5)

C's

# 1 Secret Lass (ML 12-1)
# 4 Eddie Could Go (ML 3-1)

Zoe's Cajun took the Show behind two next out winners last time out.  Wise Tale was victorious the last time Jockey Catalino Martinez was on his back.  Secret Lass could be speed on the rail.  Eddie Could Go took the Show at this class level last time out.

OK, that's the analysis.  While this is a jackpot wager, I won't be putting all my selections on one ticket.  While I still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of my life, budgetary constraints must be respected.  I also think it's safe to presume that my "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket; so I should be safe in pressing those up.  So with all that, playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 5 with 5 with 2,4 with 2 with 4,7 with 6 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: ALL with 1,5 with 2,4 with 1,2 with 4,7 with 5,6 $25.60

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 5 with 2,4 with 2,4 with 2 with 4,7 with 6 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 5 with 5 with 1,5 with 2 with 4,7 with 6 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 5 with 5 with 2,4 with 5 with 4,7 with 6 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 5 with 5 with 2,4 with 2 with 2,3,5 with 6 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 5 with 5 with 2,4 with 2 with 4,7 with 1,4 $1.60

Total: $35.60

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:15 EDT / 2:15 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/8/17 Fresno Gold Rush Pick Six - Results

Race 3 - # 3 Sunday Nap (Final Odds 1.30*) - "A" Selection
Race 4 - # 1 Silver Jester (4.20) - No Selection
Race 5 - # 3 Gift Giver Linda (1.50*) - "A" Selection
Race 6 - # 3 Ron Again (3.90) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 2 Top Pirana (6.60) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 2 Hot Gem (4.20) - "B" Selection

Had you given me the bad news prior to the running of the sequence that only half of my two singles was going to find their way to the winner's circle Sunday, I would not have guessed that Gift Giver Linda would be that one.  But the Peter Miller trained # 5 Distinctive B (0.30*) just didn't have it today, having to settle for the Show behind the Hollendorfer pair of Top Pirana and # 6 Bronze Star (7.00) in Race 7.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Gold Rush Pick Six sequence of  3 / 1 / 3 / 3 / 2 / 2  were rewarded with a payout of $821.34 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/8/17 Fresno Gold Rush Pick Six - Preview

Non-Winners of One are featured on Sunday's card on the California Fairgrounds circuit, as half of the final half-dozen contests were carded for maidens.  I'll be looking at those races below, as I take another run at The Gold Rush Pick Six at The Big Fresno Fair.

RACE 3 - Md $16k - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Easy Game (Morning Line 2-1)
# 3 Sunday Nap (ML 9-5)

B's

# 1 Hedoesitinstyle (ML 3-1)
# 5 Inforcing Order (ML 8-1)
# 6 Particle of Energy (ML 8-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 4 Joshuas Glory (ML 12-1)

While carded for open company, note for future reference that all runners in this field are, in fact, California bred.  Also note that none of these runners finished in the Trifecta in their respective most recent race; which, as I mentioned yesterday, serves as a pretty good sign that this could be a chaos race.  Finally, it's worth pointing out that all four experienced runners are shipping in from downstate.

Easy Game is running with a price tag on his head for the first time in his career.  Sunday Nap has thrice taken the Show against more expensive stock.  The "B" Selections are everyone else in the field, including the two first time starters, Inforcing Orders and Particle of Energy.

RACE 4 - Clm $5k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Bullseye (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 3 Whatahandsomecat (ML 7-2)
# 5 On Fire (ML 2-1)

C's

# 4 Cuatro Cinco (ML 6-1)

Bullseye took the Place in front of a next out winner at Ferndale last time out.  Whatahandsomecat took the Place against open (no conditions) claimers last time out, albeit on the synthetic track at Golden Gate.  On Fire fits well here on class, though On Fire may be settling for too many minor awards.  Cuatro Cinco drops in class, turns back in distance, and switches surfaces; perhaps one (or more) of those changes will allow Cuatro Cinco to get his picture taken today.

RACE 5 - (F) Md $8k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Gift Giver Linda (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Riverka (ML 6-1)
# 2 Frankie (ML 7-2)
# 4 Kolocha (ML 9-2)
# 5 Tiz Seeking a Win (ML 3-1)
# 6 Mexicat (ML 8-1)

Gift Giver Linda ships in from downstate and runs for the cheapest tag of her career.  Riverka ships in from downstate, and could move up with the class drop.  Frankie is on the ticket because everyone else is.

Kolocha took the Show at this class level two starts back, albeit on the synthetic.  Tiz Seeking a Win took the Show at this class level last time out while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite.  Mexicat took the Place at this class time out.

RACE 6 - Md $8k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Melvinized (ML 3-1)

B's

# 1 El Nino Fable (ML 5-2)
# 7 Cheap O Charlie (ML 7-2)

C's

# 2 Let's Havanuther (ML 6-1)
# 3 Ron Again (ML 5-1)

Note that, like Race 3 above, this contest was carded for open company, but drew only California bred runners.  Melvinized goes for the first time for Trainer Rene Amescua, who tends to do well with such.  El Nino Fable ships in from downstate, and could move up with the class drop and cutback in real estate.

Cheap O Charlie took the Show behind Melvinized against more expensive last time out, albeit on the grass.  Let's Havanuther and Ron Again could be the quickest here, in a field without much early speed.

RACE 7 - OC $62.5k/N2X - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Distinctive B (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 6 Bronze Star (ML 9-2)

Distinctive B ships in from downstate for Trainer Peter Miller after taking the Place at this class level in each of his last three starts.  Bronze Star was a listed stakes winner the last time he competed over a Fast dirt track.

RACE 8 - (F) Clm $5k N2X - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Peppered Gold (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 2 Hot Gem (ML 4-1)
# 8 Who Said Lucky (ML 9-2)

C's

# 1 Panshir (ML 3-1)
# 7 Unwanted (ML 5-1)

Peppered Gold was victorious at this comparable class level last time out, and took the Show at this class level two starts back.  Hot Gem goes first off the claim for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.  Who Said Lucky could move up with the drop in class.

Panshir could be the one running best late, though traffic could be a problem with the rail draw.  Unwanted took the Place at this class level last time out, while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite.

$1.00 P6: 2,3 with 6 with 3 with 6 with 5 with 3 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: ALL with 3,5,6 with 3 with 1,6,7 with 5 with 2,3,8 $27.00

Race 7 - # 3 Private Marini (0.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - The Harris Farms - # 7 Tribal Storm (13.70) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 7 Sheila's Footsteps (1.70*) - "B" Selection

The third leg of the sequence was pretty much the definition of a chaos race, as none of the seven runners in the field had managed to finish in the Trifecta in their respective last time out.  Such contests virtually cry out for the "ALL" button; even when they contain a heavy Favorite like # 5 Lucky With you (0.30*), who wound up third (and who, incidentally, has now failed as the Post Time Favorite in five of his six career races).  Of course, using the entire field in one leg requires greater precision in the others; so even had I played the third leg correctly, I played too many of the others incorrectly for it to make a difference to my bottom line.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Gold Rush Pick Six sequence of  1 / 3 / 4 / 3 / 7 / 7  were non-existent.  Nobody picked six on Saturday.  Nobody.  Those who correctly picked five out of six were rewarded with a payout of $79.12 for their twenty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/7/17 Fresno Gold Rush Pick Six - Preview

Back to the California Fairgrounds circuit to kick off the three day weekend; but I begin with the notice that it's not a three day weekend for me, as I will be back at my paying job Monday.  So be forewarned that there will not be any selections here for Columbus Day, so you'll have to seek your amusement elsewhere.

Returning back to Saturday's action, the featured race in Northern California is the Harris Farms stakes, for California bred or California sired three years old and upward.  I'll be looking at that contest below, as well as the other final half dozen races on the card, as I take a run at The Gold Rush Pick Six at The Big Fresno Fair.

RACE 4 - Alw 4000s - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Sir Vronski (Morning Line 9-5)
# 2 Prince Charmant (ML 7-2)

B’s

None

C's

# 5 Omdurman (ML 9-2)

Note for future reference that this event has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any runner that has started for a claiming price of $4k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Sir Vronski looks to benefit from the class drop as well as the turn back in distance.  Prince Charmant is a re-claim returning to the barn of Trainer John Martin, with whom he has enjoyed prior success.  Omdurman was victorious at this class level last time out.

RACE 5 - Clm $4k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Gone With It (ML 2-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 2 Ptolemy (ML 4-1)
# 3 Redneck Crazy (ML 5-1)

Scratch # 4 Song for the Crowd (ML 7-2)

Gone With It ships in from downstate after taking the Place against more expensive stock.  Hopefully Jockey Aaron Gryder can get Gone with it across the wire before he has the chance to hang.  Ptolemy, trained by Bob Hess, Sr, could be the one running best late.  Redneck Crazy sheds the blinkers and more sensitive equipment.

RACE 6 - Md $5k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Lucky With You (ML 2-1)

B's

# 2 Stormin Cowboy (ML 5-2)
# 3 El Sundar (ML 6-1)
# 6 Manning (ML 3-1)

C's

# 7 Tailored (ML 10-1)

Lucky With You, trained by Doug O'Neill, gets a ton of class relief after failing as the Post Time Favorite in each of his last three starts.  Stormin Cowboy, trained by Marty Jones, is another making the trip in from downstate in search of class relief.  El Sundar exits a key race.

Manning could be the one running best late.  Tailored had a rough time of it last time out, after taking the Place at this class level two starts back.

RACE 7 - ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 3 Private Marini (ML 5-2)
# 6 Brownie Finale (ML 3-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 All Star Parade (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 2 Skidoo

Private Marini looks to be quickest here; and Private Marini has a prior Win over this track.  Brownie Finale has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his last two starts, albeit on non-dirt surfaces.  All Star Parade ships in from downstate, and seems to have been working well for this contest.

RACE 8 - [S] The Harris Farms $100k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Solid Wager (ML 4-1)

B's

# 3 Love My Bud (ML 12-1)
# 4 Algenon (ML 8-1)

C's

# 8 Chief of Staff (ML 10-1)
# 9 Prime Issue (ML 6-1)

# 10 Jimmy Bouncer (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 1 Mr. Hinx (ML 5-2)

Solid Wager, trained by Peter Miller, could return to the form that he was showing earlier this year with the class drop.  Love My Bud looks to get first run at the pacesetters.  Algenon may be on the wrong surface; but if Algenon can bring his speed from the Golden Gate synthetics to this track, he could be tough to catch.

Chief of Staff could move up with the class drop.  Prime Issue is the "other" Peter Miller, and should be prominent early.  Jimmy Bouncer is the only runner here with a Win over this track.  Jimmy Bouncer should appreciate the surface switch.

RACE 9 - Clm $4k B - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Snappy Jack (ML 2-1)
# 5 Press Baron (GB) (ML 4-1)

B's

# 4 Mighty Marino (ML 5-1)
# 7 Sheila's Footsteps (GB) (ML 7-2)

C's

None

EDIT: # 1 Condiment (ML 15-1) has been scratched.  The tickets below have been adjusted accordingly

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since June 18, 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a runner has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come since the middle of June (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $3.5k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, # 3 Snappy Jack (ML 2-1), # 4 Mighty Marino (ML 5-1), and # 7 Sheila's Footsteps (ML 7-2) are the three runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

Snappy Jack quit early last time out when he couldn't catch the pacesetter; expect Snappy Jack to get a better set up today.  Press Baron (GB) is a last out winner going first off the claim for Trainer Jonathan Wong, who tends to do well with such.  Condiment should appreciate the surface switch.

Mighty Marino and Sheila's Footsteps (GB) are the two in this field trying a Fast dirt track for the first time.  Perhaps either or both will take to it well.

$1.00 P6: 1,2 with 1 with 5 with 3,6 with 5 with 3,5 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 1,2 with 1 with 2,3,5,6 with 3,6 with 3,4,5 with 3,4,5,7 $38.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 5 with 1 with 5 with 3,6 with 5 with 3,5 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 1,2 with 2,3 with 5 with 3,6 with 5 with 3,5 $3.20
$0.20 P6: 1,2 with 1 with 7 with 3,6 with 5 with 3,5 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 1,2 with 1 with 5 with 1 with 5 with 3,5 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 1,2 with 1 with 5 with 3,6 with 8,9,10 with 3,5 $4.80

Total: $57.60

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:16 EDT / 2:16 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/1/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 4 My Boo (Final Odds 2.50*) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - The John Henry Turf Championship - # 1 Itsinthepost (1.60*) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - # 6 Just a Little Hope (5.90) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 4 Kristi's Copilot (14.10) - "C" Selection

You know how this song goes: had 'em all, but not all on any one ticket.  Itsinthepost could easily have been on the big ticket, being how tight he and # 8 Hunt (Ire) (2.30) were at the wire in their prior match up in the Del Mar Handicap.  But you have to be willing to take a stand somewhere in the sequence; and besides, putting Itsinthepost on the big ticket with Hunt would have doubled its cost while just setting the stage for a larger disappointment when Kristi's Copilot crossed first under the wire after setting all the fractions in the nightcap.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  4 / 1 / 6 / 4  were rewarded with a payout of $823.85 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

10/1/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

"Remember that guy that gave up? Neither does anyone else." - Anonymous

Welcome to October!  I decided to finish the weekend where I began by keeping my action at Santa Anita; and why not?  They've still got my money from yesterday!  Anyway, the featured race on Sunday's card is the Grade 2 John Henry Turf Championship, to be run at a distance of ten furlongs on some California grass.  I'll be looking at the contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - [S] MSW - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Gringo Star (Morning Line 7-2)

B's

# 1 Raven Creek (ML 3-1)
# 4 My Boo (ML 5-2)
# 7 Powerful Thirst (ML 3-1)

C's

# 2 Mavericks (ML 8-1)
# 3 Rhettbutler (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 5 Prevail (ML 15-1)

Gringo Star and Powerful Thirst filled out the bottom two thirds of the Trifecta at this class level at Del Mar in early September, while My Boo and Raven Creek did likewise in mid-August.  The "C" Selections are the two first time starters.

RACE 7 - The John Henry Turf Championship (Grade 2) - Ten Furlongs Turf

A's

# 8 Hunt (ML 5-2)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Itsinthepost (ML 2-1)
# 4 Chicago Style (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 9 Win the Space (ML 12-1), who took the Show in Saturday's running of the Awesome Again

Hunt hit the wire a little less than a length in front of Itsinthepost last time out in the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap.  I anticipate that having to cover one fewer furlong today will benefit Hunt more than it does Itsinthepost.

Chicago Style has lost just once in six lifetime starts while steadily making his way up the class ladder.  This is a pretty big step up in the quality of competition for Chicago Style; but it's not inconceivable that he could pull the upset, especially if the pacesetters burn themselves out early, as Chicago Style looks to be the one that will be running best late.

RACE 8 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Six and a Third Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Anonymity (ML 8-5)

B’s

# 6 Just a Little Hope (ML 8-1)
# 9 Dominating Woman (ML 5-2)

C's

None

Anonymity was a clear winner in her debut at Del Mar last time out, and looks to be lone speed on the rail today.  Just a Little Hope could improve with the return to one turn racing.  Dominating Woman won by as many as she wanted to over this main track in February, and seems to have been training well for her return to competition for Trainer Peter Miller.

RACE 9 - Clm $25k - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Sky Preacher (ML 7-2)
# 7 Rye Patch (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 1 Abbey Vale (Ire) (ML 4-1)
# 9 Ebadan (Ire) (ML 6-1)

# 10 Malko (Ire) (ML 6-1)

C's

# 4 Kristi's Copilot (ML 8-1)

Scratch #12 Crown the Kitten (ML 8-1) who fails to draw in off the Also Eligible list

Sky Preacher took the Place in front of a next out winner last time out.  Rye Patch won by daylight at this class level last time out.

Abbey Vale (Ire) could compete if he returns to the form the he showed in his last three races over this turf course.  Ebadan (Ire) took the Show behind Abbey Vale and Rye Patch the last time he competed over this turf course, and could improve with the blinkers being put back on.  Malko (Ire) has finished in the Trifecta in each of his last two starts at this class level, and could move up with the added distance.  Kristi's Copilot could improve with the class drop coupled with the surface switch.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6 with 8 with 1 with 5,7 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,4,6,7 with 8 with 1,6,9 with 1,5,7,9,10 $30.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 2,3 with 8 with 1 with 5,7 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 1,4 with 1 with 5,7 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 8 with 1 with 4 $0.50

Total: $36.50

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:00 EDT / 3:00 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
