2/23/19 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - # 6 Jimmy the Juice (Final Odds 8.20) - "C" Selection
Race 8 - The Buena Vista - # 9 Vasilika (0.80*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 2 Kenzou's Rhythm (5.70) - "B" Selection
Race 10 - # 9 Mirth (6.30) - "C" Selection

Positives included getting my big ticket single home, as Vasilika showed the rest of field her class while convincingly winning the Buena Vista; and also getting a double digit winner home in Kenzou's Rhythm in the third leg, which is just what you hope for when you punch the "ALL" button.  But "B" Selection # 4 Croissant (29.60) was a half length too late in getting to the wire in the opening leg; and "B" Selection # 2 Stradella Road (4.20) was just a neck too slow in the nightcap; which made Saturday a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  6 / 9 / 2 / 9  were rewarded with a payout of $448.85 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

“Hard work is a talent. You keep going. You keep fighting. You know how not to quit under pressure.“ - Gary Kasparov

Saturday's featured race is the Grade 2 Buena Vista, a one mile contest on the turf course for older fillies and mares.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 7 - Clm $12.5k - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Papa Turf (Morning Line 4-1)

B’s

# 1 Tough But Nice (ML 3-1)
# 4 Croissant (ML 12-1)
# 7 Boy Howdy (ML 7-2)

C's

# 3 Market Sentiment (ML 6-1)
# 5 Bargaining (ML 20-1)
# 6 Jimmy the Juice (ML 5-1)
# 8 Burn Me Twice (ML 4-1)

Papa Turf looks to move up with the drop down in class; but a concern with Papa Turf is that he may be spent early, even at the short distance.  Tough But Nice is another that can be expected to improve while getting some class relief.

Croissant and Boy Howdy have both finished behind Papa Turf in recent starts; but either or both could be running better than Papa Turf in the drive Saturday.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 8 - The Buena Vista (Grade 2) - Eight Furlongs Turf

A's

# 9 Vasilika (ML 8-5)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Take These Chains (Ire) (ML 12-1)
# 2 Ms Bad Behavior (ML 5-1)
# 4 Fahan Mura (ML 6-1)
# 5 Compelled (ML 12-1)
# 6 Amandine (GB) (ML 8-1)
# 7 English Dancer (ML 20-1)

# 8 Elysea's World (Ire) (ML 4-1)
# 10 Streak of Luck (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 3 Zaffinah (Ire) (ML 12-1)

Believe it or not, this was a tough call for me; for as good as Vasilika is, I think Take These Chains (Ire), the shipper from the east, has a shot in this contest.  Take These Chains has shown the ability to win on the lead and to come from off the pace; and it's fair to presume that Trainer Brad Cox would not be sending Take These Chains to Southern California if he didn't think that she had a legitimate chance to win.

Ultimately I decided that the likelihood of Take These Chains winning the Buena Vista was insufficient to justify doubling the cost of the big ticket; and Take These Chains is therefore being included with the rest of the field as a backup "C" Selection.  However, I may hedge a bit here, a put a bit of a saver Win wager on Take These Chains, just in case.

RACE 9 - Clm $20k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Curlin Road (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 1 Impression (ML 6-1)
# 2 Kenzou's Rhythm (ML 5-1)
# 3 Holland Road (ML 5-1)
# 5 Bedeviled (ML 8-1)

# 6 Clear the Mine (ML 8-1)
# 7 Pioneerof the West (ML 3-1)

# 8 Little Scotty (ML 12-1)

C's

None

It was just five starts ago that Curlin Road won the Grade 3 Cougar II Handicap.  Saturday Curlin Road runs with a $20k price tag on his head.  Life comes at you fast.

The fact that Curlin Road is dropping so steeply off a layoff is a huge red flag, as well as solid confirmation that Curlin Road is no longer the competitor that he used to be.  But the question is, just how much of his old self does Curlin Road have to be to win at this class level?

Anyway, in my opinion, if this contest isn't dominated by Curlin Road, then it becomes anybody's race to win.  So rather than outsmarting myself by trying to determine which two or three runners in this field are over-matched, I'm just going "ALL" in on this leg, and moving on.

RACE 10 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 8 K P Pergoliscious (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 2 Stradella Road (ML 4-1)
# 3 Tammy's Window (ML 10-1)

C's

# 1 Zusha (ML 20-1)
# 4 Lady Mamba (ML 10-1)
# 5 Sutro (ML 8-1)
# 6 Copper Fever (ML 15-1)
# 7 Super Patriot (ML 12-1)
# 9 Mirth (ML 6-1)
# 10 Drift Away (ML 8-1)
# 11 Qafilah (Ire) (ML 10-1)

K P Pergoliscious, Graded Stakes placed in each of her last two races, should benefit from the class relief here.  Stardella Road should improve with the return to the lawn.  Tammy's Window looks to be the one that will be running best late.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2 with 9 with 4 with 8 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2,4,7 with 9 with ALL with 2,3,8 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,5,6,8 with 9 with 4 with 8 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 1,2,4,5,6,7,8,10 with 4 with 8 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 9 with 4 with 1,4,5,6,7,9,10,11 $4.00

Total: $59.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 6:50 EST / 3:50 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/16/19 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 2 Fairly Lucky (Final Odds 3.30) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - The El Camino Real Derby - # 4 Anothertwistafate (1.20*) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 1 Journey to Run (3.70) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 9 Chatterman (3.40) - "B" Selection

A tremendous effort by the Scat Daddy sophomore Anothertwistafate in winning the El Camino Real Derby, making it a perfect three-for-three in his career on the synthetic Saturday, and punching his ticket to the Preakness Stakes in May.  Best of luck to Anothertwistafate and his connections going forward.  As for my handicapping effort Saturday, perhaps the kindest thing that can be said is,

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  2 / 4 / 1 / 9  were rewarded with a payout of $333.30 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/16/19 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Saturday finds the road to the Kentucky Derby, or, more accurately, the road to the Preakness Stakes, winding its way through the intersection of Albany and Berkeley, California; as the winner of today's running of the El Camino Real Derby will automatically be given an entrance to May's running of the Preakness.  So with that as backdrop let's get to it, as I take a run at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) [S] MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 8 Tanya Komarova (Morning Line 9-5)

B's

# 6 Check Out (ML 5-1)

C's

# 1 Sure Magic (ML 15-1)
# 2 Fairly Lucky (ML 4-1)
# 3 Thunder Woman (ML 15-1)

# 4 Sarah's Smirk (ML 8-1)
# 5 Native Mesquite (ML 8-1)

# 7 Sweet Susan B (ML 8-1)
# 9 My Three Kids (ML 15-1)
# 10 Donveras Cat (ML 30-1)
# 11 California Canter (ML 20-1)

Not making Tanya Komarova a big ticket single is quite possibly a mistake, as Tanya Komarova has twice finished in the Trifecta at this class level; which is two times more than any other runner in this field.

But Check Out has also finished in the Trifecta in each of her last two races; and while those contests were versus maiden claimers, they were open maiden claimers; that is, not restricted to runners that were either California bred or California sired.  So I don't think this is all the significant a rise in class for Check Out; and if Check Out closes Saturday as she did two weeks ago, then Check Out just might be the getting her picture taken when this race is over.

RACE 7 - The El Camino Real Derby $100k - Nine Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 9 Kingly (ML 2-1)

B's

# 4 Anothertwistafate (ML 5-2)
# 12 More Ice (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Angelo's Pride (ML 30-1)
# 2 King of Speed (ML 10-1)

# 3 Data Hawk (ML 30-1)
# 5 The Creep (ML 12-1)
# 6 Weekly Call (ML 12-1)
# 8 Rey Coliman (ML 30-1)
# 10 Knight's Cross (ML 20-1)
# 13 Mayor Cobb (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 7 Eagle Song (Ire) (ML 5-1) and # 11 Royal Insider (ML 30-1)

For over thirty years the El Camino Real Derby was a Grade 3 event; but that streak ended after its 2017 running, as last year the contest was lowered to the Listed Stakes level.  So, to boost up the status of the El Camino Real Derby, The Stronach Group, owners of multiple race tracks, including Golden Gate Fields and Pimlico Race Course (home of the Preakness Stakes) has decided to make the El Camino Real Derby a "Win and You're In" contest for the second jewel of Triple Crown.  Note that in order for today's winner to be given that automatic entrance into the Preakness, the horse must be nominated to the Triple Crown.  For the record, the runners in this field not nominated to the Triple Crown are: Data Hawk; The Creep; Weekly Call; and Rey Coliman.

Kingly, trained by Bob Baffert, is trying the synthetic for the first time; but if Kingly can handle the surface, then he should do this fine here.  Anothertwistafate is undefeated since moving from dirt sprints downstate to synthetic surface routes here.

Eagle Song (Ire) was a two-time winner on the synthetic in his native Ireland.  More Ice, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, closed well in the Eddie Logan on the Santa Anita turf course last time out.  The backup "C" Selections are, as they are in every race, the rest of the field.

RACE 8 - Clm $8k B - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 7 Indygo Bo (ML 5-2)

B's

# 5 Street Moxie (ML 9-5)
# 6 Royal Banker (GB) (ML 15-1)

C's

# 1 Journey to Run (ML 6-1)
# 2 Smoked too Many (ML 8-1)
# 3 Sizzling Eddie (ML 5-1)
# 4 Smoke and Burn (ML 15-1)
# 8 Pepper Crown (ML 10-1)

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since November 15, 2018; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a runner has fewer than four career Wins, then he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, then none of those Wins could have come since the middle of November (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $6.25k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record Journey to Run, Smoked too Many, and Smoke and Burn are the three runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

Street Moxie and Indygo Bo were just a head apart at the wire at this class level last time out, while filling out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta.  Royal Banker (GB) could be the one running best late.

RACE 9 - Clm $3.2k N2X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Ultra Fame (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 6 Little Jack (ML 4-1)
# 9 Chatterman (ML 5-1)

C's

# 1 Time to Go Robo (ML 30-1)
# 4 Fair Advantage (ML 15-1)
# 5 Merle (ML 9-2)

# 7 Six Gun Smokin (ML 10-1)
# 10 Vending Machine (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 2 Gone My Way and # 8 Tiz Buff (ML 12-1)

This contest is given as an N2X; but it's really an N2Y, as it's limited to runners which have not won two races in 2018-2019, not counting Maiden, Claiming and Starter Races for $2.5k or less.

Ultra Fame and Chatterman were just a head apart at the wire while filling out the Exacta last time out.  Little Jack's career record looks much better if you focus only upon his races over this main track.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 8 with 9 with 7 with 3 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 6,8 with 4,9,12 with 5,6,7 with 3,6,9 $27.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,2,3,4,5,7,9,10,11 with 9 with 7 with 3 $4.50
$0.50 P4: 8 with 1,2,3,5,6,8,10,13 with 7 with 3 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 8 with 9 with 1,2,3,4,8 with 3 $2.50
$0.50 P4: 8 with 9 with 7 with 1,4,5,7,10 $2.50

Total: $41.50

Post Time for Race 8 is 6:23 EST / 3:23 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/9/19 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 8 - # 6 Much Better (Final Odds 0.40*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - The San Marcos - # 5 Platinum Warrior (Ire) (16.20) - "C" Selection
Race 10 - # 1 Tanners Pride (5.40) - "C" Selection
Race 11 - # 11 Settle It (8.20) - "C" Selection

Getting my big ticket single home to kick things off certainly made for an excellent beginning to the sequence.  However, Much Better proved to be the only one of my big ticket selections to find their way to the winner's circle, making for a not so complimentary commentary on my handicapping on the day.  So, bottom line is that a wonderful beginning followed by three straight misses made Saturday a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  6 / 5 / 1 / 11  were rewarded with a payout of $848.00 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/9/19 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

It's a Tripleheader of Graded Stakes Saturday at Santa Anita, with the Las Virgenes, the Thunder Road, and the San Marcos all on the card.  As it's the only one of the trio to fall amongst the final four events on the program, I'll be taking a look at the San Marcos below; as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 8 - OC 80k/N1X - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Much Better (Morning Line 8-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Toothless Wonder (ML 5-1)
# 2 Unbridled's Skye (ML 8-1)

# 3 Spin Lightning (ML 4-1)
# 4 Mr Paytience (ML 8-1)
# 5 Asano (ML 5-1)
# 7 Principe Carlo (ML 5-1)

These are all three year olds; hence the $80k price tag in the conditions; though, for the record, none of these are actually up for sale.

The Bob Baffert trained Much Better, Show finisher in the Grade 3 Sham last month, just looks too classy for this field.  If there is a concern with Much Better it would be the addition of blinkers for the first time (in his fifth career start), which suggests that Baffert may still be trying to figure things out with this runner.

If you wanted to go deeper in this leg, you might want to consider either or both of Principe Carlo and Mr Paytience, who could give Much Better trouble on the front end; or, to go in a different direction, Spin Lightning, who could be the one running best late.  But for me, Much Better will be going solo on the big ticket, with all others being used as backup "C" Selections.

RACE 9 - The San Marcos (Grade 2) - Ten Furlongs Turf

A's

# 3 Chicago Style (ML 3-1)

B's

# 4 Epical (ML 7-2)
# 7 Dabster (ML 5-1)
# 8 Beach View (ML 5-1)
# 12 Ya Gotta Wanna (ML 12-1)

C's

# 1 Unapologetic (ML 10-1)
# 2 Roman Rosso (Arg) (ML 12-1)
# 5 Platinum Warrior (Ire) (ML 12-1)

# 6 Sejo (Ire) (ML 12-1)
# 9 Lucky Soul (ML 30-1)
# 10 Flamboyant (Fr) (ML 12-1)

# 11 India Mantuana (ML 20-1)
# 13 Prince of Arabia (ML 30-1)

Chicago Style looks best here, though Chicago Style's failure to hit the board in his three prior tries over this turf course is a concern.  Epical is one that you might consider leaving off your main ticket in order to lower your costs, as Epical could just be cheap speed that will fade in the drive; but as Epical has been hot of late, I'm going to see if his early speed can carry him to the wire.

Dabster is trying the grass for the first time; and typically Trainer Bob Baffert doesn't send one of his runners to the turf unless he's run out of other options.  But Dabster has been doing quite well against Graded Stakes company on the main track; and Dabster does have the breeding for the lawn; so I'm going to give Dabster a slot on the big ticket.

Beach View could be the one running best late.  Ya Gotta Wanna could improve with the hood being removed.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 10 - Clm $16k N3L - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 8 Shifty Dancer (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 3 Crazy Uncle Rick (ML 10-1)
# 5 Saratoga Morning (ML 7-2)
# 9 Honeymoonz Over (ML 3-1)

C's

# 1 Tanners Pride (ML 4-1)
# 2 Zippy Groom (ML 8-1)
# 4 Neighborhood Bully (ML 15-1)
# 6 Rhettbutler (ML 30-1)
# 7 Candy Zip (ML 15-1)
# 10 Hollywood Dancer (ML 15-1)

Shifty Dancer was a convincing winner in his one prior try sprinting over the main track; and the fact that Shifty Dancer is making just his fourth career start is certainly a solid mark in his favor in a race conditioned by total lifetime victories.  The concern with Shifty Dancer is that he is coming off a considerably layoff; but Shifty Dancer did win his career debut, which shows that he can win off just works.

Crazy Uncle Rick is competing above his conditions here, as Crazy Uncle Rick has visited the winner's circle just once in his career.  But Crazy Uncle Rick looks quick enough to be forwardly placed early, and his one lifetime Win came at today's distance in rather convincing fashion.

Saratoga Morning is dropping considerably in class.  Honeymoonz Over took the Show against more expensive stock last time out.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 11 - (F) [S] MSW - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 5 Scarlet Heat (ML 5-1)

B's

# 3 Dr Wysong (ML 7-2)
# 4 Tip Top Gal (ML 30-1)
# 7 Ruby Bradley (ML 4-1)

C's

# 1 Lucky Stepper (ML 12-1)
# 2 Winterbreak (ML 20-1)
# 6 Luckiest Lady Ever (ML 20-1)
# 8 Lucky Lately (ML 10-1)
# 9 Shanghai Barbie (ML 12-1)
# 10 Spanish Channel (ML 15-1)
# 11 Settle It (ML 5-1)
# 12 Stylin Ocean (ML 6-1)

Scratch the Also Eligible, # 13 A Dime for Me (ML 15-1)

Scarlet Heat took the Show charging down the Santa Anita hill at this class level in her debut last time out.  Dr Wysong makes her turf debut after taking the Show at this class level over the main track last time out.

Tip Top Gal has proven herself to be quick on the dirt and on the synthetic; and as Tip Top Gal is out of a Royal Anthem broodmare, it's fair to presume that she will do well on the grass.  Ruby Bradley, a first time starter for Trainer Phil D'Amato, looks to be well bred for the turf.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6 with 3 with 8 with 5 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 6 with 3,4,7,8,12 with 3,5,8,9 with 3,4,5,7 $40.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,2,3,4,5,7 with 3 with 8 with 5 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 1,2,5,6,9,10,11,13 with 8 with 5 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 3 with 1,2,4,6,7,10 with 5 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 3 with 8 with 1,2,6,8,9,10,11,12 $4.00

Total: $55.00

Post Time for Race 8 is 6:10 EST / 3:10 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/2/19 Santa Anita Rainbow Pick Six - Preview

Saturday brings us a triple header in Triple Crown preps, with the Withers in New York, the Holy Bull in Florida, and the Robert B Lewis in California.  In addition, the good folks in Arcadia have decided to make Saturday a mandatory payout day for their Jackpot Pick Six wager.  So while my better sense says to pass on the card due to the horrible weather that is being forecast for SoCal, a mandatory payout of a pool that just might hit eight figures is much too tempting to let go by.  So with all that said let's get to it, as I take a run at The Rainbow Pick Six at The Great Race Place.

RACE 5 - MSW - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Omaha Beach (Morning Line 8-5)

B's

# 8 One Bad Boy (ML 3-1)
# 9 Mo Reserve (ML 8-1)

C's

# 1 Polar (ML 4-1)
# 3 Nolde (ML 30-1)
# 4 Alleva (ML 8-1)
# 7 Moonoverthebayou (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 2 Koa (ML 15-1) and # 6 Air Boss (ML 15-1)

Omaha Beach has finished in the Trifecta in each of his four career starts, all at this class level.  One Bad Boy closed well in his debut last time out.  Mo Reserve could move up with the return to one turn racing.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 6 - The Robert B Lewis (Grade 3) - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 4 Gunmetal Gray (ML 9-5)

B's

# 5 Mucho Gusto (ML 8-5)

C's

# 1 Kid Cantina (ML 20-1)
# 2 Magnificient McCool (ML 8-1)

# 3 Easy Shot (ML 8-1)
# 6 Nolo Contesto (ML 5-2)

Mucho Gusto may be the better horse, but Gunmetal Gray is the one that has already proven that he can win going around two turns.  Of course, this one could come down to who does the better job of handling the off track Saturday.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 7 - Md $30k - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 9 R B Eye (ML 7-2)

B's

# 3 Calder Vale (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 Command the Moment (ML 8-1)
# 2 Camzul (ML 4-1)

# 4 Cowboy Tommy (ML 20-1)
# 5 Toby Time (ML 5-1)
# 6 Ministersdon'tlie (ML 6-1)
# 7 Blue Skye Jade (ML 12-1)

# 8 Royal Aspirations (ML 6-1)
# 10 Sword Master (ML 12-1)

I was very tempted to make R B Eye a big ticket single here, as R B Eye has shown the ability to hit the board at this level, and I really believe that R B Eye will benefit from having to go around just one turn Saturday.  But ultimately I decided that I wanted a little more coverage; so Calder Vale, who has taken the Place at this class level in the past, goes on the big ticket as well; while all other entrants will be used as backup "C" Selections.

RACE 8 - MSW - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 My Mandate (ML 3-1)

B's

# 4 Parsimony (ML 6-1)
# 7 C Falls (ML 20-1)

C's

# 1 Time Is Now (ML 5-1)
# 2 Platinum Nights (ML 8-1)
# 3 Scalper (ML 6-1)

# 6 Whitehouse Road (ML 4-1)
# 8 Norski (ML 6-1)
# 9 Young Phillip (ML 10-1)

My Mandate has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his last two races, and My Mandate looks to be the one that they'll have to catch if they want to win.  Parsimony could improve going second off the layoff.

C Falls is a debut runner out of the unraced Maiden America, who also foaled Graded Stakes winner Ten City.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 9 - The San Pasqual (Grade 2) - Nine Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 8 Battle of Midway (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Pavel (ML 8-1)
# 7 McKinzie (ML 4-5)

C's

# 2 Dalmore (ML 20-1)
# 5 Giant Expectations (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 3 Dabster (ML 5-1); # 4 Shivermetimbers (ML 30-1); and # 6 Sonneteer (ML 20-1)

Going three deep in a five horse contest with a 4-5 Morning Line Favorite is rarely a good idea; but the only poor race of McKinzie's career is also the only prior race where he wasn't facing runners that were all the same age as he; so it makes sense to be cautious of his chances here.  Therefore, I'm making Battle of Midway my top selection; and I'm including the classy Pavel on the big ticket.  The rest of the field comprise my backup "C" Selections.

RACE 10 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Isee It in Hiseyes (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 1 Candyman Garret (ML 7-2)
# 4 Das Bear (ML 8-1)
# 10 Cayate (ML 3-1)

C's

Isee It in Hiseyes has taken the Place twice in his last three races at this class level; though it's fair to wonder if perhaps Isee It in Hiseyes settles for too many minor awards.  Candyman Garret could improve off the freshening.

Das Bear ships in from out of state after winning impressively last time out.  Cayate could move up with the drop in class.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:
