2/25/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 6 Dragon Flower (Final Odds 11.40) - "C" Selection
Race 7 - # 3 Masked (0.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 5 Clear the Mine (5.70) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 5 Travieza (3.50) - "B" Selection

This was a tough one to swallow, as a better ordered play would have collected.  But what's done cannot be undone; so lesson learned, and hopefully mistakes made will not be repeated.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  6 / 3 / 5 / 5  were rewarded with a payout of $530.15 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/25/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Believe it or not, Sunday marks the final racing date for Santa Anita for the month of February.  And, believe it or not, that's about all I have by way of introduction.  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $8k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Pomp and Party (Morning Line 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Fruity (Ire) (ML 3-1)
# 3 Sweetwater Gal (ML 2-1)
# 6 Dragon Flower (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 7 Herunbridledpower (ML 4-1)

Pomp and Party looks quickest here; but Pomp and Party has failed as the Post Time Favorite in three of her last four starts, which suggests that using her as a single is not advisable.  But with the scratch of Herunbridledpower, it's difficult to make a case for inclusion of any one of the other entrants above the others.  So it's either single Pomp and Party, or use at least four of this remaining field of six.

Fruity (Ire) and Dragon Flower are two that could move up with the class drop.  Sweetwater Gal, trained by John Martin, has run well in the past over this main track.

RACE 7 - OC 75k/N1X - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 3 Masked (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 1 Magic Musketier (ML 9-2)
# 5 Colonel Cash (ML 5-1)

C's

# 7 La La Land (Ire) (ML 6-1)

Masked was much the best graduating last time out charging down the hill for Trainer Bob Baffert.  Baffert tends to do well when placing his last out maiden winners.  Today might finally be the day that Magic Musketier gets a clean trip.  Colonel Cash took the Show at this class level last time out.    La La Land (Ire) is making his North American debut; maybe La La Land will appreciate the change of scenery, though it appears that he may prefer synthetic to turf.

RACE 8 - Clm $40k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Just Kidding (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 2 Raagheb (ML 3-1)
# 3 Stormin Monarcho (ML 7-2)
# 4 Mr. Opportunist (ML 8-1)
# 5 Clear the Mine (ML 8-1)
# 6 Ike Walker (ML 8-5)

C's

None

Just Kidding is the only runner in this field to have finished in the Trifecta last time out.  Just Kidding is also the only runner in this field to have left the gate last time out at single digit odds.  Quite frankly, excepting Just Kidding, this is a field of entrants that have been running against mush classier competition and finding themselves in way over their heads; so now that they're finally facing foes with whom they fit on class, any one of them is capable of stepping forward and getting their picture taken today.

RACE 9 - (F) MSW - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 12 Sensible Myth (ML 3-1)

B's

# 1 Sea Glass (ML 10-1)
# 2 Spiel (ML 6-1)
# 3 Stradella Road (ML 5-1)
# 5 Travieza (ML 4-1)
# 10 Rockin Ready (ML 5-2)

C's

# 8 My Princess Taylor (ML 20-1)
# 11 Sutro (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 9 Ladybug (ML 6-1).  Bring in # 12 Sensible Myth (ML 3-1) off the Also Eligible List.

Sensible Myth missed victory by a nose charging down the hill last time out against a next out winner.  Sea Glass is a first time starter who has been working so well over the main track its fair to wonder why she's not making her debut there; but Sea Glass' breeding suggests that she'll do well on the grass.

Rocking Ready and Strandella Road filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta charging down the hill at this class level last time out.  Travieza and Spiel likewise completed the Trifecta over this course last time out.

My Princess Taylor could move up off the freshening.  Sutro could improve with a cleaner break.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 4 with 3 with 1 with 12 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 4 with 1,3,5 with ALL with 1,2,3,5,10,12 $54.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,3,6 with 3 with 1 with 12 $1.50
$0.50 P4: 4 with 7 with 1 with 12 $0.50
$0.50 P4: 4 with 3 with 1 with 8,11 $1.00

Total: $58.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:10 EST / 3:10 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/24/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - # 5 Trifecta (Final Odds 6.10) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 10 Karmic Affinity (0.70*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 6 Phantom Proton (7.40) - "C" Selection
Race 10 - The Wishing Well - # 11 Mongolian Shopper (23.10) - "C" Selection

I thought I was in good position halfway through the sequence, having gotten my single Karmic Affinity home and being alive to five on the big ticket in both the third and fourth legs; but it was not to be, as Saturday quickly turned into a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  5 / 10 / 6 / 11  were rewarded with a payout of $1,070.95 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/24/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

The featured race on Saturday's Santa Anita card is the Grade 3 Daytona; a contest which, unfortunately, did not find it's way onto the final four events on the program.  However, another stakes, the Wishing Well, is the nightcap Saturday; so I will be examining that race below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 7 - Clm $20k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 6 For Greater Glory (Morning Line 7-2)

B’s

# 1 Conquest Sabre Cat (ML 5-1)
# 5 Trifecta (ML 6-1)

C's

# 3 Cardiac (ML 12-1)
# 7 Malko (Ire) (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 10 Preacher Roe (ML 8-1), # 12 True Valor (ML 12-1), and # 13 Lewis Vale (ML 6-1)

For Greater Glory was victorious at this class level two starts back, with Trifecta taking the Place behind him.  Conquest Sabre Cat defeated more expensive two starts back; but Conquest Sabre Cat crossed the line well behind For Greater Glory last time out in the Super Bowl Starter Handicap, a race in which neither of those two did much running.  Expect Cardiac to be forwardly placed early, while Malko (Ire) could be the one running best late.

RACE 8 - (F) [S] MSW - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 10 Karmic Affinity (ML 3-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Warm It Up (ML 6-1)
# 2 Get Yourself Home (ML 5-2)

# 4 Madam Sophia (ML 12-1)
# 9 Easydoes It Please (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 6 Irish Cream N Kafe (ML 12-1)

Karmic Affinity took the Place at this class level in her debut last time out.  Warm It Up fits well here on class; but Warm It Up seems to settle for too many minor awards.

Get Yourself Home should improve with the return to the main track.  Madam Sofia and Easydoes It Please are first time starters out of dams whose produce have proven successful.

RACE 9 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 7 Life's Blessings (ML 8-5)

B’s

# 2 Bar Scene (ML 12-1)
# 3 Be a Lady (ML 6-1)
# 5 Powder (ML 6-1)
# 8 Rockport Babe (ML 4-1)

C's

# 4 Time for Ebby (ML 20-1)
# 6 Phantom Proton (ML 6-1)
# 9 Late 'n Left (ML 5-1)

Scratch # 1 Bad Ju Ju (ML 8-1)

Life's Blessings took the Place at this class level last time out.  Bar Scene probably needed that last one after the extended vacation.  Be a Lady goes first off the claim for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who tends to do well with such.

Powder should improve with the return to the main track.  Rockport Babe could be the speed of the speed.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.  The most logical runner in this field, Life's Blessings, has failed as the Post Time Favorite in three of her five career starts; a record that doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.  But once you get past Life's Blessing, this becomes a wide open race where all runners have respectable chances.  The "ALL" button is probably a good option here.

RACE 10 - (F) [R] The Wishing Well $70k - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 10 Algorhythmic (ML 6-1)

B's

# 1 Princess Princess (ML 12-1)
# 2 Miss Southern Miss (ML 6-1)
# 5 Samba (Arg) (ML 5-2)
# 8 Malibu Stacy (ML 15-1)

C's

# 6 Anita Partner (Ire) (ML 20-1)
# 7 Gliding By (ML 8-1)
# 11 Mongolian Shopper (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 3 Cuyathy (ML 15-1), # 4 Bendable (ML 3-1), and # 9 Barbara Beatrice (ML 15-1)

The [R] in the race description above is because any runner who has won a Graded Stakes since July 1, 2017 is not eligible to run here.  Algorhythmic, returning from an extended leave, enters this contest with a four race winning streak, all charging down the hill, all since joining the barn of Trainer Michael Machowsky.  Princess Princess took the Show in the Grade 3 Las Cienegas last time out.  Miss Southern Miss won by daylight charging down the hill last time out.

Samba (Arg) is making her North American debut for Trainer Bob Baffert, who has been enjoying turf success as of late.  Malibu Stacy has shown good early speed when routing on the flat turf course; perhaps that will carry over to her charge down the hill today.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else, as this is another contest that looks to me  to be wide open.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6 with 10 with 7 with 10 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,5,6 with 10 with 2,3,5,7,8 with 1,2,5,8,10 $37.50

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,7 with 10 with 7 with 10 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 1,2,4,9 with 7 with 10 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 6 with 10 with 4,6,9 with 10 $1.50
$0.50 P4: 6 with 10 with 7 with 6,7,11 $1.50

Total: $44.50

Post Time for Race 7 is 6:36 EST / 3:36 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/18/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 3 The Tulip (Ire) (Final Odds 5.00) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 3 Ransomed (4.40) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - The Las Flores - # 6 Selcourt (1.10*) - "C" Selection
Race 9 - # 1 Bunny Yogurt (3.20) - "A" Selection

My big ticket single, # 5 Skye Diamonds (2.00) was three-quarters of a length too slow in getting to the wire in the Grade 3 Las Flores; and that three-quarters of a length was the difference Sunday between collecting and contributing.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  3 / 3 / 6 / 1  were rewarded with a payout of $148.85 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/18/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Sunday's featured race at Santa Anita is the Grade 3 Las Flores, a six furlong sprint for fillies and mares four years old and upward.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 7 Girl Downstairs (Morning Line 7-2)

B’s

# 2 Candy Swirls (ML 6-1)
# 3 The Tulip (Ire) (ML 3-1)
# 4 Siberian Iris (Ire) (ML 5-2)
# 5 Cynthiana (ML 12-1)
# 6 Glory and Power (ML 8-1)
# 8 Quinn Murphy (ML 20-1)

C's

# 1 Literary Critic (ML 15-1)
# 9 Proud 'n' Ready (ML 8-1)

Girl Downstairs goes first off the claim for Trainer Mike Puype, who tends to do well with such.  Candy Swirls is a Lifetime two-for-two over this turf course, albeit against lesser company.  The Tulip (Ire) and Quinn Murphy look like the two that will be running best late.

Siberian Iris (Ire) took the Place at this class level charging down the hill last time out.  Cynthiana could improve going second off the layoff.  Glory and Power could improve with the turn back in distance.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 7 - (F) Clm $12.5k N2L - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Ransomed (ML 5-2)
# 8 Velvet Jones (ML 6-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 5 Sharp Holiday (ML 6-1)

Ransomed and Sharp Holiday filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta at this class level last time out.  Velvet Jones should move up with the class drop.

RACE 8 - (F) The Las Flores (Grade 3) - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 Skye Diamonds (ML 8-5)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Princess Karen (ML 6-1)
# 3 Coniah (ML 4-1)
# 6 Selcourt (ML 6-5)

Skye Diamonds makes her 2018 debut here, and if she's ready to roll then this race is hers for the taking.  Selcourt and Princess Karen project to be the early leaders in this field.  Coniah fits well here on class, though I'm not convinced that taking her off the grass is in her best interests.

RACE 9 - (F) Md $75k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Bunny Yogurt (ML 7-2)
# 7 Curlin's Journey (ML 5-2)

B's

# 2 International Diva (Ire) (ML 12-1)
# 3 Mischievous Song (ML 4-1)
# 4 Sekhmet's Revenge (ML 6-1)
# 6 Biscate (ML 12-1)
# 9 Swallows Inn Gal (ML 30-1)
# 10 It's Alexus (ML 6-1)

C's

# 5 Roses and Candy (ML 12-1)
# 8 Gal Factor (ML 15-1)

Scratch the Also Eligibles: # 11 Super Patriot (ML 4-1); # 12 Mongolian Window (ML 10-1); # 13 Sweet Congrats (ML 15-1); and # 14 Seattle Drop (ML 6-1)

Bunny Yogurt could improve with the drop in class and the return to the flat course.  Curlin's Journey could improve with the drop in class and going second off the layoff.

International Diva (Ire), Sekhmet's Revenge, and It's Alexus are the three debut runners here; as none of the experienced entrants have shown themselves to be a standout, it seems wise to use all three first timers.  Mischievous Song is trying the turf for the first time; perhaps she'll like it.

Biscate could move up with the class drop.  Swallows Inn Gal could improve with the surface switch.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 7 with 3,8 with 5 with 1,7 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 2,3,4,5,6,7,8 with 3,8 with 5 with 1,2,3,4,6,7,9,10 $56.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,9 with 3,8 with 5 with 1,7 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 7 with 5 with 5 with 1,7 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 7 with 3,8 with 1,3,6 with 1,7 $6.00
$0.50 P4: 7 with 3,8 with 5 with 5,8 $2.00

Total: $73.00

2/17/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - The Buena Vista - # 7 Fault (Final Odds 12.10) - No Selection
Race 8 - # 10 Horse Greedy (40.00) - No Selection
Race 9 - # 9 Royal Trump (1.60*) - "A" Selection
Race 10 - # 3 Saltini (2.40*) - "A" Selection

Good job by you if you singled the two Post Time Favorites in the second half of the sequence and went "ALL" in the other two contests, as you were well rewarded.  Congrats to you on your handicapping skills if you collected without having to go "ALL" in either or both of the first two races.  And if you played this pool as I did, the best thing you can do is say along with me:

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  7 / 10 / 9 / 3  were rewarded with a payout of $1,650.45 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/17/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

The Grade 2 Buena Vista is the featured race on Saturday's Santa Anita card, kicking off a three day holiday weekend in the USA (and, just to let you know now, I won't be posting selections Monday).  I'll be looking at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 7 - (F) The Buena Vista (Grade 2) - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 Madam Dancealot (Ire) (Morning Line 7-2)

B's

# 1 Insta Irma (ML 7-2)
# 4 Madame Stripes (Arg) (ML 3-1)
# 5 Thundering Sky (ML 8-1)

C's

# 6 Sassy Little Lila (ML 4-1)
# 8 Pricedtoperfection (ML 15-1)

# 9 Juno (Brz) (ML 12-1)

Madame Danealot (Ire) makes her four year old debut here, and she appears ready to pick up where she left off last year.  Madame Stripes (Arg), Insta Irma, and Thundering Sky filled out the Trifecta in the Grade 3 Megahertz last time out.

Sassy Little Lila may be able to go gate to wire on the lead.  Pricedtoperfection ships in from the east and could improve with the change of scenery.  Juno (Brz) could get a nice stalking trip with the outside draw.

RACE 8 - OC 40k/N1X - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Lookie Loo (ML 7-2)
# 9 Midnight Pleasure (ML 10-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 2 Sheer Flattery (ML 8-1)
# 3 Boy Howdy (ML 5-1)
# 4 Best Two Minutes (ML 12-1)
# 5 Sigur Ros (ML 6-1)
# 7 Clear the Mine (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 6 Solid Wager (ML 6-1)

Lookie Loo, trained by Bob Baffert, graduated convincingly in his second career start last time out.  Midnight Pleasure looks to be the one that will be running best late in a field filled with early speed.

Sheer Flattery could be the one that Midnight Pleasure will have to beat to the wire in the stretch.  Boy Howdy has been showing steady improvement in each of his more recent races, and I don't expect the voided claim last time out to keep Boy Howdy from being up on the pace.

Best Two Minutes could improve off the freshening.  Sigur Ros defeated a next out winner while graduating last time out.  Clear the Mine goes first off the claim for Trainer John Sadler, who tends to do well with such.

RACE 9 - Clm $25k - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 9 Royal Trump (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 2 Lipster (ML 12-1)
# 3 Mesa Jones (ML 3-1)
# 6 Builder (ML 7-2)

C's

# 1 Oso Strong (ML 6-1)
# 4 Ridgefield Rocket (ML 6-1)
# 7 Bright Autism Mind (ML 12-1)

Royal Trump could move up with the drop in class.  Lipster closed well to graduate last time out, and could improve with the added distance.  Mesa Jones, shipping in from upstate, is the only runner in here with multiple victories.  Builder could improve with the cutback to one turn racing.

Oso Strong, shipping in from upstate, could improve with the surface switch.  Ridgefield Rocket could move up with the drop in class.  Bright Autism Mind could be the speed of the speed, especially with the hood being added.

RACE 10 - OC 40k/N1X - Ten Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 3 Saltini (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 9 Oscar Dominguez (Ire) (ML 6-1)
# 10 Gio's Calling (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 Excessive Kid (ML 6-1)
# 4 Plain Wrap (ML 30-1)

Scratch the Also Eligibles, # 13 Malko (Ire) (ML 15-1) and # 14 For Greater Glory (ML 15-1)

Saltini took the Place at this class level last time out.  Oscar Dominguez (Ire) goes first off the claim for Trainer John Sadler, who tends to do well with such.  Gio's Calling could move up with the drop in class.

Excessive Kid could be the one running best late.  Plain Wrap could improve with the increase in real estate.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2 with 1,9 with 9 with 3 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2,4,5 with 1,9 with 2,3,6,9 with 3,9,10 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6,8,9 with 1,9 with 9 with 3 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 2,3,4,5,7 with 9 with 3 $2.50
$0.50 P4: 2 with 1,9 with 1,4,7 with 3 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 1,9 with 9 with 1,4 $2.00

Total: $60.50

Post Time for Race 7 is 6:10 EST / 3:10 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/11/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 6 Old School Ike (Final Odds 0.40*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 3 Lucy De (3.80) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 1 Backintheacademy (1.30*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - The Sweet Life - # 4 War Heroine (4.60) - "B" Selection

Not much to say when the horses run true to form, other than to give a sigh of relief that I didn't talk myself off any of the logical contenders.  The sequence played pretty much as expected; not just by me, but also as envisioned by many other punters as well.

For the record, here are the $0.50 Will Pays for the other three runners to which I would have cashed in the nightcap:

# 1 Out of The Flames (GB) (2.40) - $38.10 Finish: 3rd
# 5 Finess Bere (Fr) (4.10) - $61.85 Finish: 4th
# 8 Ms Bad Behavior (2.20*) - $35.40 Finish: 2nd

Had either Out of The Flames (GB) or Ms Bad Behavior been victorious the above amounts would have been trebled, as I would have cashed the "All A Selections" ticket in addition to the big ticket.

But that's what might have been.  What actually came to be was a correct Late Pick Four sequence of  6 / 3 / 1 / 4  which paid $61.85 for a fifty cent wager.  That makes for a profit of $5.85 on my initial $56.00 investment, or approximate odds of 0.10-1.  Which sure ain't much; but as my close personal friend Sully likes to say, no one ever went broke cashing tickets.

I hope you all had it with me.  May God bless us as we spend our winnings.

Onto the next race!

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/11/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Sunday's featured race at Santa Anita is the Sweet Life, a six and a half furlong charge down the hill for three year old fillies.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - Md $30k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Old School Ike (Morning Line  3-5)

B's

None

C's

# 3 Nine Issues (ML 30-1)
# 7 Shackalov (ML 4-1)

A Morning Line of 3-5 tells you that I'm not alone in liking Old School Ike's chances in this contest.  If the Peter Miller trained Old School Ike repeats his last performance, when he took the Place at this class level, then he wins today.  If there's a concern here it's that it's not exactly clear what caused such a big move forward last time out for Old School Ike in his sixth career start.  Perhaps he just needed Tyler Baze on his back to impress upon him that the time to go forward fast was as soon as the gates open.  But even if Old School Ike takes a step back off his last outing, he still looks to be a legitimate Favorite in this field.

Nine Issues could improve in his second career start, as runners for Trainer Dallas Keen tend to do.  Shakalov took the Show against more expensive stock two starts back.

RACE 7 - (F) OC 62k/N2X - Ten Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Laseen (Ire) (ML 5-2)
# 3 Lucy De (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 2 Beautiful Becca (ML 8-1)
# 4 Nodiac (Ire) (ML 4-1)
# 7 Coachwhip (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Laseen (Ire), Graded Stakes placed two and three starts back, should appreciate the class relief.  Lucy De looks to be in top form.  Beautiful Becca should be forwardly placed early, and may steal this one on the front end.

Nodiac (Ire) fits well at this class level, and could improve off the freshening.  Coachwhip found herself battling for the early lead last time out in the Grade 1 American Oaks; the class drop coupled with a ride somewhat off the pace may just get Coachwhip into the winner's circle Sunday.

RACE 8 - (F) Clm $6.25k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Backintheacademy (ML 5-2)
# 3 Ipray (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 6 Liar's Smoke (ML 2-1)
# 7 Jill Madden (ML 5-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 8 Yes Mongolia (ML 10-1)

Backintheacademy finished in the Exacta two and three starts back against more expensive stock.  Backintheacademy should be quicker off the mark today than she was last time out, when she disappointed as the Post Time Favorite.

Ipray could move up with the return to two turn racing.  Liar's Smoke is getting some much needed class relief here.  It should be noted that Liar's Smoke did not fare well the one prior time that she competed over a Fast dirt track; while Jill Madden has run well in her prior starts on real dirt, and can therefore be expected to improve over her most recent outing.

RACE 9 - (F) The Sweet Life $75k - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 1 Out of The Flames (GB) (ML 3-1)
# 8 Ms Bad Behavior (ML 7-2)

B's

# 4 War Heroine (ML 4-1)
# 5 Finess Bere (Fr) (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Ms Bad Behavior was a neck in front of Out of The Flames (GB) at the wire charging down the hill last time out.  War Heroine is trying grass for the first time; her breeding suggests that she'll like it.  Finess Bere (Fr) is trained by Bob Baffert, whose turf starters have been doing quite well of late.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6 with 1,3 with 1,3 with 1,8 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 6 with 1,2,3,4,7 with 1,3,6,7 with 1,4,5,8 $40.00

Total: $56.00

2/10/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 7 - # 2 Seau (Final Odds 3.10) - "B" Selection
Race 8 - # 6 Sawyer's Hill (2.60*) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 9 Conqueror (1.90*) - "C" Selection
Race 10 - # 10 Masked (9.40) - No Selection

Sawyer's Hill proved my concerns (expressed in the preview) were completely unfounded; as he showed himself to be much the best Saturday, easily defeating the field in the second leg of the sequence.  A lack of faith in Sawyer's Hill was undeniably an error on my part, as my 20/20 hindsight clearly sees that he should have been a big ticket single.

Incidentally, Sawyer's Hill was claimed away from Trainer Kristin Mulhall and Owner Red Castle Farms, and now joins the barn of Trainer/Owner David Jacobson, the winner of a three way shake.  In my opinion this is quite a nice pickup for Jacobson; not just because Sawyer's Hill has proven that he can still run; but also because the seven year old Sawyer's Hill is still a horse (not a gelding) and is multiple times Graded Stakes placed.  So good luck to Jacobson on his $40k purchase, and congratulations to him for displaying greater faith in Sawyer's Hill than I did.

Another error on my part was missing a obvious tell; as Trainer Bob Baffert's decision to scratch first time starter Phoenix Fire in the nightcap should have been a clear sign that he was confident that his second time starter, Masked, was primed and ready to go Saturday.  So two errors on my part in a game that rarely forgives one meant that Saturday was a day for me to contribute instead of collect.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  2 / 6 / 9 / 10  were rewarded with a payout of $339.70 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/10/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

There's a trio of Graded Stakes on the Santa Anita card Saturday; none of which made their way onto the final four contests on the program.  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 7 - Md $20k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Is Trevor Clever (Morning Line  3-1)

B's

# 2 Seau (ML 4-1)
# 3 Wise Curlin (ML 5-2)
# 5 Path of Exile (ML 9-2)
# 8 Black Storm (ML 9-2)

C's

# 1 Second Gear (ML 30-1)
# 6 Son of the South (ML 20-1)
# 7 Kewanee Coyne (ML 15-1)
# 9 Bryan Habana (Arg) (ML 15-1)

Scratch # 10 Traffic Thief (ML 10-1)

Is Trevor Clever has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his last three starts; perhaps today will be the day that Is Trevor Clever breaks clean from the gate.  Seau took the Show behind Is Trevor Clever at the wire his last time out on Jan 20; while Path of Exile took the Show behind Is Trevor Clever his last time out, back on Jan 6.

Wise Curlin could move up with the return to the main track.  Black Storm may be quicker than these with the class drop.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else, as this one looks to be wide open, as the field seems to have several that prefer to settle for minor awards.

RACE 8 - OC 40k/N1X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 6 Sawyer's Hill (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 5 Van Cortlandt (ML 3-1)
# 7 Tony Blackjack (ML 5-1)
# 8 Lord Admiral (ML 20-1)

C's

# 1 Tartini (ML 4-1)
# 9 Incredible Luck (ML 10-1)

Sawyer's Hill is the clear class of this field, and off his prior record over this track could make for a tempting single; but the concern with Sawyer's Hill is that the extended layoff, coupled with his connections willingness to enter him in a contest where they could lose him for the $40k price tag, suggests that Sawyer's Hill may not be the same horse that he was last Summer.

Van Corlandt took the Show at this class level last time out.  Tony Blackjack's pedigree suggests that he'll do well on the lawn.  Lord Admiral could move up with the cutback in distance.

Tartini is another that could improve thanks to having to cover less real estate.  Incredible Luck could move up off the freshening.

RACE 9 - Alw 50000s N2L - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 12 Desert General (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 10 Quick Finish (ML 3-1)

C's

# 3 Caray (ML 10-1)
# 7 Bacoli (ML 10-1)
# 9 Conqueror (ML 5-2)
# 11 Liberty Jack (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 6 Fire to the Wire (ML 15-1)

Note for future reference that this one is for runners which have not won two races in their career; a tidbit of information which for some reason never seems to find its way into the running lines of the Past Performances.

Desert General has proven to be competitive at this class level in the recent past.  Quick Finish tries winners for the first time, after defeating non-Claiming state-bred maidens convincingly last time out.

Caray seems to have improved with the blinkers being removed.  Bacoli took the Place at this class level last time out, albeit on the turf.  Conqueror disappointed as the Post Time Favorite at this class level last time out.  Liberty Jack was much improved last time out in his first start for Trainer Billy Morey.

RACE 10 - MSW - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 8 Eskimo Roses (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Jungle Warfare (ML 3-1)
# 11 Pointed (ML 6-1)

C's

# 5 Frenchmen Street (ML 6-1)
# 9 Majestic Eagle (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 2 Phoenix Fire (ML 10-1)

Eskimo Roses, Jungle Warfare, and Pointed filled out the bottom three slots of the Superfecta at this class level when they charged down the hill together back on January 7.  Frenchmen Street showed good early speed routing on the flats last time out; such tend to do well when charging down the hill.  Majestic Eagle could move up with the move to the lawn.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 4 with 6 with 12 with 8 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 2,3,4,5,8 with 5,6,7,8 with 10,12 with 1,8,11 $60.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,6,7,9 with 6 with 12 with 8 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 1,9 with 12 with 8 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 6 with 3,7,9,11 with 8 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 4 with 6 with 12 with 5,9 $1.00

Total: $67.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 6:19 EST / 3:19 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/4/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 2 Aquaphobia (Final Odds 1.80*) - "A" Selection
Race 7 - # 7 Tapitha Bonita (11.60) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 10 Kochees (2.50*) - "B" Selection
Race 9 - # 6 Paddy Jean (8.50) - "B" Selection

My single in the sequence, Aquaphobia, benefited from an excellent ride from Jockey Corey Nakatani in the opening leg; and you can't win 'em all if you don't win that first one.

For the record, here are the $0.50 Will Pays for the other five runners to which I would have cashed in the nightcap:

# 2 Tell Me More (2.90) - $332.90 Finish: 3rd
# 5 Diva La Mousse (6.20) - $403.15 Finish: 2nd
# 8 My Party Girl (2.70*) - $339.15 Finish: 10th
# 9 Bissou Bissou (68.10) - $6,647.95 Finish: 8th
# 11 Arrowsphere (3.60) - $392.75 Finish: 7th

But that's what might have been.  What actually came to be was a correct Late Pick Four sequence of  2 / 7 / 10 / 6  which paid $636.00 for a fifty cent wager.  That makes for a profit of $555.00 on my initial $81.00 investment, or approximate odds of 6.85-1.

I hope you all had it with me.  May God bless us as we spend our winnings.

Onto the next race!

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/4/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

It's Super Bowl Sunday, which means an early Post Time for Santa Anita and other west coast race tracks.  It also means the annual Super Bowl Starter Handicap will be contested; a race which I'll be looking at below, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - Hcp 25000s - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 Aquaphobia (Morning Line 5-2)

B’s

None

C's

# 4 Rye Patch (ML 20-1)
# 5 Lazzam (GB) (ML 7-2)
# 6 Urban Bourbon (ML 4-1)
# 9 Kristi's Copilot (ML 8-1)

This is the Super Bowl Handicap; an event open to any runner four years old and upward which has started for a claiming price of $25k either this year or last.  Aquaphobia, shipping in from the east, looks by far the classiest in this field.  Singling in a turf race isn't something I relish; but if Aquaphobia repeats any of his more recent efforts, then he'll be unbeatable today.

Rye Patch and Kristi's Copilot are the most likely pacesetters, while Lazzam (GB) looks to be the one that will be running best late.  Urban Bourbon is trained by Billy Morey, whose runners have been doing quite well this meet, even when not well backed at the windows.

RACE 7 - (F) Md $30k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 7 Tapitha Bonita (ML 8-1)
# 9 Mischievious Lass (ML 3-1)

B's

# 4 All Net (ML 5-2)
# 6 Taylorealswift (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Mischievious Lass, Taylorealswift, and Tapitha Bonita filled out the bottom three rungs of the Superfecta at this class level last time out.  I think Tapitha Bonita, who was trying two turn racing for the first time in that contest, may be in position to make the biggest move forward today.  All Net, running for the first time for a tag as well as for the first time on a Fast dirt track, may respond well to the changes.

RACE 8 - Clm $8k - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 South Texas Lingo (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 4 Freddies Dream (ML 6-1)
# 5 Sense of Glory (ML 15-1)
# 10 Kochees (ML 3-1)
# 11 Roman Tizzy (ML 5-1)
# 12 Winning Causeway (ML 15-1)

C's

# 8 Private Prospect (ML 8-1)
# 9 Chromium (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 2 Ajac (ML 30-1)

South Texas Lingo enters this contest with a two race winning streak, both at today's class level.  Freddies Dream took the Place against more expensive stock last time out.  Sense of Glory could move up with one less turn to navigate.

Kochees ships in from upstate for Trainer Jonathan Wong, and could move up with the return to real dirt.  Winning Causeway and Roman Tizzy filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta last time out competing just one run below this contest on the class ladder, and both could move up with the reduction in real estate.  Chromiun and Private Prospect are two more that are moving up a notch in class Sunday after having run well last time out.

RACE 9 - (F) MSW - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 5 Diva La Mousse (ML 4-1)

B's

# 2 Tell Me More (ML 6-1)
# 6 Paddy Jean (ML 7-2)
# 8 My Party Girl (ML 5-1)
# 9 Bissou Bissou (ML 20-1)
# 11 Arrowsphere (ML 4-1)

C's

# 4 Foxtail (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 7 Del Mar Diva (ML 20-1)

Diva La Mousse drops in for a tag for the first time after having twice hit the board while charging down the hill against non-Claiming Maidens.  Tell Me More and Bissou Bissou, both trained by Peter Miller, are trying turf for the first time; and the breeding for each suggests that they will do well with the surface switch.

Paddy Jean seems to settle for too many minor awards; but perhaps today she'll figure it out.  My Party Girl is a second time starter for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who tends to do well with such.

Arrowsphere should improve with the return to turf.  Foxtail is a first time starter who has trained well for this contest, though she may be in over her head in this field.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2 with 7,9 with 1 with 5 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 2 with 4,6,7,9 with 1,4,5,10,11,12 with 2,5,6,8,9,11 $72.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 4,5,6,9 with 7,9 with 1 with 5 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 7,9 with 8,9 with 5 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 7,9 with 1 with 4 $1.00

Total: $81.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 4:24 EST / 1:34 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/3/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 3 Mercer Island (Final Odds 3.20) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - The San Marcos - # 5 Itsinthepost (Fr) (0.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - The San Pasqual - # 3 Accelerate (3.70) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - # 11 Bowie (3.00*) - "B" Selection

Fortunately this isn't billiards, where you have to call your shot, because it was Accelerate passing a tiring # 2 Mubtaahij (Ire) (3.10) in the stretch (rather than the other way around, as I had written it might play out) to win the Grade 2 San Pasqual.  Combine that result with Itsinthepost (Fr) winning the Grade 2 San Marcos by the slimmest of margins in a photo with # 7 Hayabusa One (Fr) (14.90), and you have a quality example of a day where it was better to have been lucky than good.

For the record, here are the $0.50 Will Pays for the other four runners to which I would have cashed in the nightcap:

# 3 Ms Wakaya (12.80) - $416.50 Finish: 2nd
# 5 Gotham Desire (9.60) - $301.95 Finish: 10th
# 8 Beau Square (3.20) - $112.00 Finish: 3rd
# 10 Del Mar Ann (4.30) - $128.85 Finish: 7th

But that's what might have been.  What actually came to be was a correct Late Pick Four sequence of  3 / 5 / 3 / 11  which paid $106.40 for a fifty cent wager.  That makes for a profit of $59.90 on my initial $46.50 investment, or approximate odds of 1.29-1.

I hope you all had it with me.  May God bless us as we spend our winnings.

Onto the next race!

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/3/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

Saturday is a big day for Kentucky Derby prep races across the United States, and Santa Anita is no exception, with the scheduled running of the Grade 3 Robert B Lewis.  Unfortunately that contest will fall outside my purview, being carded, as it were, outside the final four races on Saturday's card.  But I will be looking at the Grade 2 San Marcos, as well as the Grade 2 San Pasqual, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Reverend Al (Morning Line 6-1)

B’s

# 1 Summer Buddha (ML 30-1)
# 3 Mercer Island (ML 5-2)
# 8 Moonlight Blue (ML 3-1)

C's

# 4 Southern Thunder (ML 6-1)
# 7 Moonman (ML 7-2)

Reverend Al is getting some much needed class relief here.  Summer Buddha took the Show behind a next out winner two starts back, which was the last time Summer Buddha went around two turns.  Summer Buddha may also move up off the freshening.

Mercer Island could move up with the class drop.  Moonlight Blue and Southern Thunder filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta at this class level last time out.  Moonman took the Show at this class level two starts back.

RACE 7 - The San Marcos (Grade 2) - Ten Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Itsinthepost (Fr) (ML 9-5)

B's

# 4 Isotherm (ML 3-1)

C's

# 6 Flamboyant (Fr) (ML 4-1)
# 7 Hayabusa One (Fr) (ML 6-1)
# 8 Editore (Brz) (ML 6-1)

Itsinthepost (Fr) was a half length behind Isotherm in last year's running of this event, and while Isotherm probably needed that last race (the Grade 2 San Gabriel) and should improve off the effort, I think Itsinthepost's form going into Saturday is much the better.

Flamboyant (Fr) took the Show in this event last year, and seems to be settling for too many minor awards.  Hayabusa One (Fr) closed well last time out in his first try for Trainer Peter Miller, and may be able to handle this class jump.  Editore (Brz) could move up with a better trip.

RACE 8 - The San Pasqual (Grade 2) - Nine Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Accelerate (ML 4-1)

B's

# 2 Mubtaahij (Ire) (ML 7-2)

C's

# 1 Pavel (ML 4-1)
# 7 Irish Freedom (ML 6-1)
# 8 Prime Attraction (ML 6-1)

# 9 Top of the Game (ML 3-1)

Accelerate looks to be best here; the only question is can Accelerate keep it going for the full nine furlongs.  If he can't, then Mubtaahij (Ire) appears to be the most likely candidate to run by him late.

Pavel can contend if he can find the form that led him to his Show finish in the Jockey Club Gold Cup; but the rail draw here certainly did Pavel no favors.  Irish Freedom, the "other" Baffert here, had a reasonably nice work over this track the day after Christmas, taking the scenic route around the track while the other horses were competing in the Grade 1 Malibu.  I expect Irish Freedom to be more seriously ridden for this event.

Prime Attraction can contend if he can bring the form from Del Mar over to Acadia.  On the other hand, Top of the Game has yet to lose in four tries over this main track, albeit all against lesser company.

RACE 9 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

A’s

# 8 Beau Square (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 3 Ms Wakaya (ML 12-1)
# 5 Gotham Desire (ML 6-1)
# 10 Del Mar Ann (ML 4-1)
# 11 Bowie (ML 4-1)

C's

# 2 Rooms (ML 30-1)
# 7 Sturdy One (ML 12-1)

Beau Square took the Show at this class level charging down the hill last time out.  Ms Wakaya displayed good early speed routing on the flat last time out; runners such as that tend to do well when trying the downhill course for the first time.

Gotham Desire was much improved with the hood being added, and may be able to make the jumpt to open company.  Del Mar Ann took the Place at this class level two starts back.  Bowie showed good form in her turf debut down at Del Mar last time out, and may be quickest here.

Rooms might improve with the blinkers being put back on.  Sturdy One fits well here on class, though it's unclear why Sturdy One would be put back on the lawn after a solid victory last time out over the main track.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2 with 5 with 3 with 8 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2,3,8 with 4,5 with 2,3 with 3,5,8,10,11 $40.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 4,7 with 5 with 3 with 8 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 6,7,8 with 3 with 8 $1.50
$0.50 P4: 2 with 5 with 1,7,8,9 with 8 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 5 with 3 with 2,7 $1.00

Total: $46.50

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:06 EST / 3:06 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/1/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 5 - # 7 Allaboutaction (Final Odds 29.20) - No Selection
Race 6 - # 2 C. C. Zipp (0.50*) - "A" Selection & "C" Selection*
Race 7 - # 5 Pantsonfire (Ire) (1.90*) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - # 5 Proudly Elegant (23.90) - No Selection

*In Race 6, # 6 Princess Dorian (a "C" Selection) was a late scratch, so I received C. C. Zipp in her stead

Allaboutaction certainly deserved greater consideration than that which I had given him, if only because of the lifetime record of this Jerry Hollendorfer trainee on Fast dirt tracks (one-for-four, with two Place finishes) prior to Thursday's running.  Meanwhile Proudly Elegant, a first time starter, probably warranted a role in The Late Pick Four play based upon the fact that only one of the experienced runners in Thursday's nightcap had finished in the Superfecta their last time out.  On the positive side my big ticket single, C. C. Zipp, won as expected; though as can be seen from the Final Odds of 1-2 (from a Morning Line of 5-2) the win was expected by virtually all the punters.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Late Pick Four sequence of  7 / 2 / 5 / 5  were rewarded with a payout of $1,642.20 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo

2/1/18 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

And so we say goodbye to January, a month seemingly filled with Mondays, and enter into February, with the promise that Springtime is soon approaching.  Yeah, that's pretty much all I have by way of introduction, other than to note that it's great to have some spare time in the middle of the week; and what better way is there to spend such time other than by watching horses run around in circles?  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 5 - Clm $25k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Rocket Heat (Morning Line 3-1)

B’s

# 1 Papa Turf (ML 6-1)
# 3 Beantown Boys (ML 8-1)
# 4 True Valor (ML 6-1)
# 5 Well Measured (ML 5-2)

C's

None

Rocket Heat looks to be the speed of the speed here, and Rocket Heat could move up with the return to the main track.  Papa Turf also can be quick early when motivated, and having the blinkers put back on combined with the rail draw could help get him going right out of the gate.

Beantown Boys, one of the few non-class droppers in this field, took the Place at this class level last time out.  True Valor may move up with the quick turn around, having last competed just six days ago.  Well Measured has disappointed as the Post Time Favorite in five of his last seven starts; but Well Measured has also been within a length of the winner in four of his last five starts, all against more expensive stock; so Well Measured is not easily dismissed.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $25k N2L - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 C. C. Zipp (ML 5-2)

B’s

None

C's

# 4 Christy Jackson (ML 8-1)
# 5 Tiki Bar Logic (ML 6-1)
# 6 Princess Dorian (ML 8-1)
# 8 Fly Far Away (ML 7-2)
# 9 Road Test (ML 4-1)

Scratch # 1 Chay Up and Away (ML 12-1)

C. C. Zipp runs for the first time with a price tag on her head, and she looks to be quickest here.  C. C. Zipp is also going third off the layoff for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, which adds to the appeal.

Christy Jackson took the Show at this class level last time out.  Tiki Bar Logic will be tough to catch if she can grab the early lead.  Princess Dorian goes first off the claim for Trainer Reed Saldana, who tends to do well with such.  Fly Far Away and Road Test have taken turns finishing in front of each other in the Trifecta at this class level recently; perhaps one will motivate the other to find the winner's circle today.

RACE 7 - (F) OC 40k/N1X - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 Scandal (ML 7-2)
# 5 Pantsonfire (Ire) (ML 3-1)
# 11 Causeforcommotion (ML 5-1)

B’s

# 2 Bombilate (ML 7-2)
# 7 The Tulip (Ire) (ML 7-2)
# 8 Night Time Inc (Arg) (ML 20-1)
# 9 Pistol Packin Rose (ML 8-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 1 Proud 'n' Ready (ML 15-1).  Bring in # 11 Causeforcommotion (ML 5-1) off the Also Eligible list to take her place; but leave # 12 Siberian Iris (Ire) (ML 4-1) and # 13 Lynne's Legacy (ML 12-1) in the barn, as those two do not draw in.

Scandal was victorious at this class level last time out.  Pantsonfire (Ire) could move up with the cutback in distance.  Causeforcommotion hit the wire a length in front of Scandal three starts back.

Bombilate seems to always be good enough to win without ever getting her picture taken; still, Bombilate is too talented to leave off the big ticket.  The Tulip (Ire) could be the one running best late.  Night Time Inc (Arg), Graded Stakes placed in her native Argentina, could pull the upset in a field lacking a true standout.  Pistol Packin Rose looks to be quickest, and should thus avoid any traffic issues that may arise late.

RACE 8 - (F) [S] Md $50k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Impecunious (ML 6-5)

B's

# 3 Lucky Lula (ML 5-2)

C's

# 8 My Claw (ML 6-1)
# 9 Dee Way to Go (ML 12-1)

Impecunious took the Place at this class level while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite last time out.  Lucky Lula goes first time for a tag, and should benefit from the return to the main track.

My Claw could move up with the added distance.  Dee Way to Go may get a nice stalking trip with the outside draw.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6 with 2 with 4,5,11 with 6 $3.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,3,4,5,6 with 2 with 2,4,5,7,8,9,11 with 3,6 $35.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6 with 4,5,6,8,9 with 4,5,11 with 6 $7.50
$0.50 P4: 6 with 2 with 4,5,11 with 8,9 $3.00

Total: $48.50

Post Time for Race 5 is 6:06 EST / 3:06 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
