1/2/17 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Preview

So we come to the second day of 2017, a holiday in the US courtesy of the first of the year having fallen on a Sunday.  As such, there's a holiday card for us to enjoy at Santa Anita.  And while the exact condition of the track as I type this is unknown, a check of the overnight weather and current conditions tell me that the track should be in much better shape than it was the first two days of this weekend.  So with that let's get to it, as we take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.

RACE 6 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 10 Curly Road (Morning Line 6-1)

B's

# 3 Carulli (ML 15-1)
# 7 And Then Some (ML 10-1)
# 12 True Ranger (ML 6-1)

C's

# 2 Keeping the Faith (ML 15-1)
# 4 Redneck Crazy (ML 5-1)
# 8 Jimmy the Juice (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 1 Dr. Crabby (ML 12-1) and # 6 Big Champion (ML 5-2)

Curly Road took the Place against more expensive last time out.  Two starts back, Curly Road was within a length of the winner at the wire at today's class level.

Carulli missed victory by a nose at this class level two starts back.  And Them Some moves up in class after having finished in the Exacta in six of his last seven starts.  If And Then Some's early speed holds up at this class level, he could proved tough to catch.

True Ranger took the Place against more expensive last time out, with Keeping the Faith taking the Show behind him.  Redneck Crazy has proven to be competitive at this class level; the concern is that he seems to settle for too many minor awards.  Jimmy the Juice gets some much needed class relief.

RACE 7 - [S] OC 20k/N1X - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Well Measured (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 3 Pray Hard (ML 3-1)

C's

# 4 Eddie's First (ML 4-1)
# 6 Matriculate (ML 9-2)

# 8 Jonny's Choice (ML 5-1)

Scratch # 2 Lambo Luxx (ML 12-1); # 5 Boy Howdy (ML 10-1); # 7 Kenny Benny (ML 20-1); and # 9 Touching Rainbows (No Line)

All the scratches have turned this contest into a field of five; and we'll be using all five, in some shape or form.

Well Measured took the Place in the state bred restricted Harris Farms Stakes two starts back.  Pray Hard defeated open company (non-state bred restricted) OC 25/N1X competition the last time that he competed on real dirt.

Eddie's First took the Place at this approximate class level last time out.  Matriculate took the Show at this class level last time out.  Jonny's Choice misses by just a neck of entering this contest with three Wins in his last four starts, all against open company.

RACE 8 - OC 62k/N2X - Nine Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 1 Royal Albert Hall (GB) (ML 7-2)
# 2 Curlin Rules (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 8 McHeat (ML 4-1)

C's

# 4 Sky Preacher (ML 8-1)
# 7 Ward 'n Jerry (ML 4-1)
# 9 Gangster (ML 6-1)

Scratch the Also Eligibles: # 11 Patriots Rule (ML 9-2); # 12 Crown the Kitten (ML 5-1); and # 13 Sawyer's Hill

Royal Albert Hall (GB) took the Show at this class level two starts back.  Curlin Rules took the Place a this class level as the Post Time Favorite two starts back, and could have things all his own way through the early going.

McHeat ran well at this class level last time out, and could move up off the freshening.  Sky Preacher moves up in class while showing a steadily improving form since adding blinkers.  Ward 'n Jerry enters this contest with a three race winning streak, albeit all against lesser company.  Gangster moves up in class after winning his turf debut last time out.

RACE 9 - Clm $8k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 9 Door's Open (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 2 Pat the Bear (ML 6-1)
# 3 Prohibition Repeal (ML 6-1)
# 8 Malibu Mogul (ML 4-1)

C's

# 12 Changing Karma (ML 12-1)
# 13 Aikau (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 1 Outthink'em (ML 12-1)

Door's Open takes a big drop down the class ladder while coming back from an extended vacation; generally, those two traits combined constitute a huge red flag.  Still, even if Door's Open is less than one hundred percent, he should still triumph here.

Pat the Bear took the Show at this class level two starts back.  Prohibition Repeal was a winner the last time that he ran with a price tag on his head.  Malibu Mogul is another in here taking a significant drop in class.

Changing Karma took the Show against more expensive two starts back.  Aikau moves up in class after winning his last two starts by daylight.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries with All B Entries

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
