1/1/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Happy New Year everyone!  Here’s wishing you all all the best in the coming year.  May The Almighty grant each of you all your heart’s desires, along with a steady stream of signers.

Arrogate was scheduled to run Sunday in the Grade 2 San Pasqual at Santa Anita, but his connections did not like the condition of the main track; and to be quite honest, neither did I.  So for that reason we're going to move our action upstate today to Golden Gate Fields, as we take a run at The Late Pick Four at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 6 - Clm $12.5k N2L - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Midnight Rambler (Morning Line 8-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Spot N the Line (ML 9-2)
# 2 Land of Oz (ML 4-1)
# 4 My Son John (ML 6-1)

This is Midnight Rambler's first time in for a tag, so it's fair to wonder just how badly hurt he may have been when he was bumped last time out.  It's also possible that Midnight Rambler's prior effort two starts back, when he took the Place against first level Allowance company two starts back over this main track, may have been too much for him.  After all, the last time Midnight Rambler ran a number that big he found himself on the shelf for a year.  But I'm going to presume that, even if he's not one hundred percent, Midnight Rambler is still clearly the one to beat here, and that the rest of the field will have a tough time catching him in the stretch.

Spot N the Line crossed the wire first at this class level two starts back only to have his number taken down.  Spot N the Line could also improve over his last effort with the blinkers being put back on.

Land of Oz drops in for a tag for the first time.  My Son John moves in from down state and runs first time for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.

RACE 7 - (F) ALW N1X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A's

# 1 Tiz a Tommy Town (ML 7-2)

B's

# 5 Optimism And Hope (Ire) (ML 3-1)
# 6 An Unusual Group (ML 5-2)
# 8 Hal's Buddy (ML 9-2)

C's

# 2 Doris Johnson (ML 6-1)
# 3 Close the Show Lo (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 4 Papaclem'smidnight (ML 15-1) and # 7 Roianna (ML 20-1)

Tiz a Tommy Town missed victory by just a head at this class level two stars back, the last time that she was on some California grass.  Optimism and Hope (Ire), like My Son John in the prior contest, moves in from down state and runs first time for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.

An Unusual Group has been in the Trifecta five of the six times that she has competed on this turf course.  Hal's Buddy could be the one running best late, while Doris Johnson and Close the Show Lo will be trying to steal this one early, provided that one can shake free from the other.

RACE 8 - (F) Clm $4k N2L - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 2 Sexy Code (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 4 Sundar Creek (ML 7-2)
# 7 Heart's Melody (ML 5-1)
# 8 She'll Get'er Done (ML 4-1)
# 9 Call My Bluff (ML 9-2)
# 11 Azure Dream (ML 10-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 5 Diablo's Angel (No Line)

As you can tell, I think this contest is pretty wide open, and would not blame anybody for choosing to punch the "ALL" button for this leg.

Sexy Code took the Place at this class level last time out, a length in front of the Post Time Favorite in that contest, Azure Dream.  Sundar Creek is a solid contender here if she can carry her dirt form over onto the fake stuff.

Heart's Melody missed victory by less than a length last time out against more expensive stock.  Call My Bluff tries winners for the first time after pacing herself last time out instead of trying to run on the lead.

RACE 9 - (F) Clm $12.5k N2L - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 3 Esperanza's Mobile (ML 4-1)
# 9 Pray Anyway (ML 15-1)

B's

# 4 Tricked Again (ML 6-1)
# 6 Better in Leather (ML 5-2)
# 8 Padawon (ML 7-2)

C's

# 5 Deep Thought (ML 20-1)
# 7 Gold Finga (ML 5-1)

Esperanza's Mobile took the Show at this class level last time out.  The concern is that "last time out" was over a year ago; but if Esperanza's Mobile is ready to go, then she could get her picture taken today.

Pray Anyway took the Place at this class level last time out, and will try to smoke the grass and steal this one on the front end.  Tricked Again, Better in Leather, and Padawon were all within a length and a quarter of the winner at the wire at this class level last time out (albeit on a contest that had been taken off the grass); though Padawon did have to settle for a lower placing due to a DQ.

Deep Thought returns to the grass, which seems to be her preferred surface.  Gold Finga will be trying grass for the first time; Trainer Frank Lucarelli has had some success with such.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 5 with 1 with 2 with 3,9 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 5 with 1,5,6,8 with 2,4,7,8,9,11 with 3,4,6,8,9 $60.00

A's with One C

$0.50 pick P4: 1,2,4 with 1 with 2 with 3,9 $3.00
$0.50 pick P4: 5 with 2,3 with 2 with 3,9 $2.00
$0.50 pick P4: 5 with 1 with 2 with 5,7 $1.00

Total: $68.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 6:15 EST / 3:15 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
