1/4/20 Turfway Park Late Pick Four - Preview

“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.” - Albert Einstein

Welcome to the first post of the New Year, everybody!  And, yes, I made sure to check multiple times that I did put "20" in the date in today's title.  A quick heads up for those who swim in that pool that the Super Hi 5 in Saturday's nightcap (Race 8) has a carryover of $2,750, having gone un-hit Friday evening.  So with that let's get to it, as I take another run at The Late Pick Four at Turfway Park.

RACE 5 - Clm $5k N3L - Six and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 8 Regal Look (ML 7-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 Fred's Country Boy (ML 15-1)
# 3 Spectacularxchange (ML 20-1)
# 5 J Dub (ML 15-1)
# 6 Taurus C (ML 15-1)
# 7 Kielbasa (ML 15-1)
# 9 Muny Me Too (ML 5-1)
# 10 Numbers Never Lie (ML 15-1)
# 11 Fetching Gold (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 2 Menace the Dennis (ML 15-1) and # 4 Haunted Mesa (ML 4-1)

I actually scratched into using Regal Look as a big ticket single, as I really liked the chances of Haunted Mesa here, being as Haunted Mesa's two career victories have come in only five lifetime starts; and that includes a Win in his debut at Arlington Park this past September (at Final Odds of 4-1; something for those of you who won't wager upon first time starters in Maiden Claiming races to consider).

Muny Me Too looks quickest here; so those of you squeamish about singling in this leg might wish to consider adding him to you main ticket.  But as for me, I'll just be going one deep here, with all others being used as backup "C" Selections.

RACE 6 - (F) Md $7.5k - Six and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Headline Kitten / # 1A Smarty Artie (ML 3-1)

B's

# 2 Bat Bat (ML 5-1)
# 4 Alexa G (ML 5-1)
# 6 Larry's Baby (ML 4-1)
# 8 Ticker (ML 15-1)
# 10 Thirst Trap (ML 12-1)

C's

# 3 Phone Bookin It (ML 30-1)
# 5 Melanie May (ML 30-1)
# 7 Cyclone Millie (ML 15-1)
# 9 Almighty War (ML 5-1)
# 11 West Virginia Pam (ML 8-1)

Smarty Artie, trained by Wesley Ward, took the Show at this class level over this track last time out; while the Michael Maker trained Headline Kitten is a first time starter who is being priced to sell.  Both runners are owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsey; hence the coupling.

Bat Bat, Alexa G, Larry's Baby, and Ticker are all stepping down on the class ladder.  Thirst Trap took the Place at this class level last time out, albeit while going around two turns.  The backup "C" Selections are everyone else.

RACE 7 - (F) Clm $12.5k - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 No Interest (ML 2-1)

B’s

# 3 Vortices (ML 6-1)
# 4 Musabaqa (ML 4-1)
# 7 Spearette (ML 6-1)

C's

# 1 Maria Rose (ML 8-1)
# 2 Sagara (ML 10-1)

# 6 Tempestuous Amy (ML 12-1)
# 8 Lady Leah (ML 6-1)
# 9 Blueberry Shine (ML 12-1)

No Interest won at this class level last time out in her first try over this track, with Vortices crossing under the wire just a nose behind her.  Musabaqa, winner of four of her last six versus classier competition, will be making her first start over a synthetic surface.

Spearette has been victorious in three of her last four starts, including last time out over this track.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

RACE 8 - Clm $5k B - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 U S Marshal (ML 3-1)

B's

# 2 Warrior's March (ML 10-1)
# 3 Kid Perfect (ML 3-1)
# 6 Stay in Yo Lane (ML 7-2)

C's

# 1 Rollin Smoke (ML 8-1)
# 5 Double Deringer (ML 10-1)
# 7 South Upper (ML 20-1)
# 8 Gallant Cause (ML 15-1)
# 9 Kitten for Granny (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 10 Anteros (ML 15-1)

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won three races since January 4, 2018; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a runner has fewer than four career Wins, then he's eligible to run in this race.  If a runner has four career Wins or more, then no more than two of those Wins could have come in the last twenty-four months.  For the record Rollin Smoke, Warrior's March, Stay in Yo Lane, South Upper, and Gallant Cause are the five runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

U S Marshal wired the field last time out in his first try over this track.  Warrior's March could move up with the cutback in distance.

Kid Perfect could be the speed of the speed in this contest; and Kid Perfect is getting significant class relief here.  Stay in Yo Lane, owned and trained by Billy Morey, has won each of his last races and missed by just a neck three starts back of being ineligible to run here.  The backup "C" Selections are the rest of the field.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 8 with 1 with 5 with 4 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 8 with 1,2,4,6,8,10 with 3,4,5,7 with 2,3,4,6 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 1,3,5,6,7,9,10,11 with 1 with 5 with 4 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 8 with 3,5,7,9,11 with 5 with 4 $2.50
$0.50 P4: 8 with 1 with 1,2,6,8,9 with 4 $2.50
$0.50 P4: 8 with 1 with 5 with 1,5,7,8,9 $2.50

Total: $60.50

Post Time for Race 5 is 8:12 EST / 5:12 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
