2/28/13 GG R3 - Horse Watch Follow-Up

If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you're well aware of the saga of City Chapel, a four year old gelding that we've been following since he was claimed by Owner / Trainer Victor Trujillo out of a $4k Claiming Race last August; a race in which City Chapel went to post at 29.8-1.  And if you've been paying attention to this story, you're also well aware that City Chapel has proven to be quite a successful pickup, having already brought back more than twice his purchase price in purse winnings in his first eight starts for the Trujillo barn.

However, a new chapter was added to the story Thursday, as City Chapel, in the twenty-sixth start of his career, finally attained his second lifetime victory.  Breaking from Post Position 3 in Race 3 at Golden Gate, (Claiming $6,250 NW2L) City Chapel (Final Odds 4.1-1) was fifth in the field of seven at first call, three back of the leader, He's a Sure Call.  City Chapel then, in the words of the chart caller, "responded once set down in the lane to rally from the outside and won going away," covering the five and a half furlongs on the synthetic main track in a final time of 1:05.42.

This was City Chapel's first win for the Trujillo barn, and the $4950 it brings in purse money well exceeds the amount for which Trujillo had claimed him.  Congratulations to the athlete and his connections, and best wishes for their continued success.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
