4/21/16 Los Alamitos Race Course Late Pick Four - Preview

Found myself with some spare time today, so decided to have a little mid-week fun by taking another run at The Late Pick Four at Orange County's own Los Alamitos Race Course.

RACE 5 - Clm $8k N2L - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Templar (Morning Line 2-1)

B’s

# 1 Espirito Bueno (ML 5-1)
# 3 Dance the Waltz (ML 6-1)

C's

# 4 Ebony Gold (ML 3-1)
# 5 Senor Pegasus (ML 10-1)
# 6 Outthink 'em (ML 5-2)

Templar drops in class while cutting back in distance; either of those moves should be sufficient to spark an improvement; the combination just might land Templar in the Winner's Circle.

Espirito Bueno showed good early speed against more expensive last time out after spending a year and a half on the sidelines.  Dance the Waltz returns to daylight racing after graduating here under the lights last time out.  Ebony Gold, Senor Pegasus, and Outthink 'em have a combined career record of three Wins in seventy-six starts; but someone has to win this race.

RACE 6 - (F) MSW - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 3 Caradini (ML 3-1)

B's

# 2 Crayon (ML 6-1)
# 5 Goodlookinwife (ML 4-1)
# 6 Lily (ML 5-2)

C's

# 1 Holiday Movie (ML 7-2)
# 4 Gust (ML 5-1)

Caradini took the Place at this class level last time out.  Caradini's form looks much better once you toss the one turn efforts as well as the two back start where they made her wear the hood.

Crayon and Goodlookinwife go from turf to dirt for trainers (John Shirreffs and Phil D'Amato, respectively) who tend to do well when making that move.  Lily took the Show at this class level last time out.

Holiday Movie may take a less scenic route around the track than she did in her debut last time out.  Gust ran best two starts back when she had the price tag on her head; but it could be that she just didn't like being on the lawn last time out.

RACE 7 - OC 40k/N$Y - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Seventh Sense (Tur) (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 1 Roy H (ML 5-1)
# 3 Justin Squared (ML 9-2)
# 7 American Pride (ML 5-1)

C's

# 10 Gutsy Ruler (ML 12-1)

Scratch # 5 One More Roll (ML 15-1) and # 9 Dead Easy (No Line).

Seventh Sense (Tur). trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, graduated last time out in his second career start after having disappointed as the Post Time Favorite in his debut.  Roy H missed by just a head at this approximate class level last time out, after leaving the gate as the betting Favorite.

Justin Squared and American Pride are a pair trained by Bob Baffert, whose runners seem to excel at disappointing when competing at this track.  Gutsy Ruler moves up in class to open company after enjoying some success against state bred competition.

RACE 8 - Clm $10k N1X - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Jonny's Choice (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 6 Okaad (ML 7-2)

C's

# 3 Tripski (ML 3-1)
# 5 Runaway Wildcat (ML 12-1)
# 9 Hope 'n Pray (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 1 Pulla Train (ML 9-2) and # 2 Changing Karma (ML 20-1)

The "X" in the conditions limit this contest to those have yet to visit the Winner's Circle in 2016, not counting Maiden, Claiming, and Starter races for $8k or less.

Jonny's Choice gets some much needed class relief after defeating more expensive stock three starts back.  Okaad returns to the barn of Trainer Paul Aguirre, for whom he won twice in six starts during the previous Fall and Winter.

Tripski returns to dirt and a more realistic class level.  Runaway Wildcat won under the lights last time out in his return from an extended layoff.  Hope n' Pray has finished in the Trifecta in half of his career starts on a fast dirt track.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2 with 3 with 2 with 4 $1.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2,3 with 2,3,5,6 with 1,2,3,7 with 4,6 $48.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 2 with 1,4 with 2 with 4 $1.00
$0.50 P4: 2 with 3 with 10 with 4 $0.50

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
