2/11/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

Back we go to upstate California for this weekend's action.  The current plan regarding the immediate future is to keep our weekend action in the Bay Area; certainly for the remainder of the month of February.  In fact, let's go further; one weekend further, to be precise; and state that, Good Lord willing, the plan for this blog is to focus its weekend action on Golden Gate Fields from now until Big Cap Day at Santa Anita (Saturday, March 11).  So with that bit of scheduling out of the way, let's get to it, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - Clm $6.25k B - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Sizzlin' Joe (Morning Line 6-5)

B's

# 3 Underwrite (ML 15-1)

C's

# 5 Bay Area (ML 7-5)

This contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since December 1, 2016; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a horse has fewer than four career Wins, he's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four or more career Wins, then none of those Wins could have come since 12/1/2016 in order for the horse to be entered here.

Sizzlin' Joe missed the Winner's Circle by less than a length last time out against classier competition.  Underwrite looks to be the quickest in this field, and could steal it on the front end.  Bay Area could wake up with the class drop.

RACE 5 - (F) Md $8k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 Sarumba (ML 5-2)

B's

# 2 Willie's Angel (ML 15-1)
# 3 One Afleet Star (ML 7-5)

C's

# 7 Intwo Mypossession (ML 6-1)

Sarumba took the Place at this class level two starts back, and could be the one running best late.  Willie's Angel took the Show in her debut last time out against more expensive; however, that last time out was over seventeen months ago.

One Afleet Star has failed as the Post Time Favorite at this class level in two of her last three starts.  Intwo Mypossession could improve with the drop in class.

RACE 6 - MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Pageau (ML 7-2)
# 5 Kaluha (ML 3-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 General Strelnikov (ML 6-1)
# 2 Black Sona (ML 8-1)
# 3 Mini Bar (ML 4-1)
# 6 Arch Kisser (ML 2-1)

Arch Kisser is the only one of the experienced runners in this field to have ever finished in the money at this class level.  It's also worth noting that all of the experienced runners in this field made their respective debuts versus weaker company.  Finally, the experienced runners all seem devoid of early speed.  For those reasons I've placed the two first time starters at the top of our ticket, and have decided to let the fate of our big ticket rest with them.

RACE 7 - Clm $3.2k - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Barrel Knot (ML 9-2)
# 5 Trelawny (ML 2-1)

B's

# 1 Bargaining (ML 12-1)
# 2 One More Roll (ML 3-1)
# 3 Himalaya Star (ML 9-2)
# 6 Go Mojave Go (ML 4-1)
# 7 Broderick Street (ML 20-1)

C's

None

Trelawny won at this class level last time out against several that are also in this field.  Barrel Knot seems to be the best of the new shooters.  As regards our big ticket it's everyone into the pool, as Trelawny's win was not all that convincing, and all runners here show in their respective forms recent failures as the Post Time Favorite; which suggests that they all have a tendency to just mail it in on days when they should be getting their picture taken.

RACE 8 - (F) The California Oaks $50k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 9 Simmy's Temple (ML 5-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Tap It All (ML 5-2)
# 3 Tapped (ML 7-5)

Simmy's Temple was victorious by three quarters of a length over Tapped last Fall in the Pike Place Dancer, the only time that either of these two runners have competed on a synthetic surface in their respective careers.  In my mind, Tap It All and Tapped may be at least the equal to Simmy's Temple; perhaps even better, on the turf; but not on synthetic.  If this contest was being held on the lawn then my ranking of these three contenders would no doubt be different; but on the fake stuff I think Simmy's Temple's edge over the other two is clear; and for that reason I decided to make Simmy's Temple our big ticket single.

RACE 9 - (F) MSW - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Reginella (ML 4-1)

B's

# 9 Irish Luck (ML 6-1)
# 11 Arabesque (ML 7-2)

C's

None

Scratch # 3 Alliford Bay (ML 9-2)

Reginella took the Place at this class level last time out.  Irish Luck could move up with the cutback to one turn racing.  Arabesquein has taken the Place at this class level in three of his four career starts over this main track.

OK, that's the analysis.  While this is a jackpot wager, we won't be putting all our selections on one ticket.  While we still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of our lives, budgetary constraints must be respected.  I think it's also safe to presume that our "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket, so we should be safe in pressing those up.  So with that, playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 4 with 5 with 4,5 with 4,5 with 9 with 1 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: 3,4 with 2,3,5 with 4,5 with ALL with 9 with 1,9,11 $50.40

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 5 with 5 with 4,5 with 4,5 with 9 with 1 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 4 with 7 with 4,5 with 4,5 with 9 with 1 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 4 with 5 with 1,2,3,6 with 4,5 with 9 with 1 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 4 with 5 with 4,5 with 4,5 with 1,3 with 1 $1.60

Total: $59.20

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:14 EDT / 2:14 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
