Chiefs Lil Pearl and We Will Re Joyce, both winners last time out, are the only two entrants in this field to have finished in the Trifecta last time out. Most of the others in this field are runners that have contended against more expensive stock and are now being priced to sell. Perhaps you can sort out a few that won't wake up even with a class drop; but I'm just going "ALL" out in this leg and moving on.

These are all two year olds, and they are all making their debut. So this is another contest where punching the "ALL" button is a very reasonable option. Actually, having a sequence with these two races back-to-back makes skipping The Late Pick Four altogether a very reasonable option; but what fun is that? Anyway, I think I've sorted the field properly, with half the runners being placed on the big ticket, and the other half being used as backup "C" Selections.

Scratch # 4 Chosen Vessel (ML 15-1) and # 7 Italiano (ML 6-1)
The scratch of the Jerry Hollendorfer trained Italiano went a long way towards keeping this play under budget while still having a reasonable expectation of cashing. Granted, singling East Rand means that I have to beat the top two turf riders on this circuit: Jockey Flavien Prat (aboard Shadow Spinx) and Jockey Drayden Van Dyke (on top of Upo).
But while I think all four of my backup "C" Selections have realistic chances of winning, I think East Rand is a standout here with the class drop. East Rand has also run well in the past over this turf course, having taken the Show in last year's running the Grade 3 Cecil B DeMille. So this is where I'm taking my stand; East Rand must win Sunday if the big ticket is to be cashed instead of trashed.

These are juveniles; though, unlike Race 7 above, most have prior racing experience.
Pretty Hussar missed graduation by just a neck at this class level last time out. Athleisure was squeezed at the start in her debut last time out; which makes it somewhat surprising that her connections are dropping her in for a tag without giving her another shot against non-claiming maidens. Gracie Belle took the Show at this class level last time out. The backup "C" Selections are the three first time starters.
