8/14/13 Del Mar Late Pick Four - Results

Hey, lookit that!  We've got a ticket with four winners!  Too bad one of them managed to get disqualified.

The Pick Four kicked off with one of our "C" contenders, # 4 Tiz a Kiss (Final Odds 2.60*) crossing the wire first in Race 5 at Del Mar.  Race 6 also went to the Post Time Favorite, our sole "A" selection in the contest, # 8 Unbridled Giant (2.10*); which simultaneously justified our use of Unbridled Giant as our single "A", while mocking our use of two "C's" in that race as backup.

Let's skip the third leg for now.

Race 8, the finale, went to # 8 Dolphin Shorts (6.60), one of the three "A" selections that we used in that contest.

So, with the above results, we have the following ticket:

RACE 5: 3, 4, 9

RACE 6: 8

RACE 7: 4, 5

RACE 8: 2, 8, 11

Cost: $9.00

with winners in Races 5, 6, and 8; and. with two horses covered in Race 7, I have to admit, we look pretty good.

And we looked even better when one of our two selections, # 4 Distinctiv Passion (2.60*) crossed the wire ahead of the rest of the field.  But Distinctiv Passion bumped with # 5 Strong Wind (4.70) late in the stretch, which caused Distinctiv Passion to be disqualified and placed behind Strong Wind.  Which would have been fine; indeed, preferable, since Strong Wind was our other selection in this event, at higher odds.

There was just one problem.  Strong Wind didn't hold the Place.

After being bumped near the wire by Distinctiv Passion, Jockey Gary Stevens stood up in the saddle, a move that allowed # 1 Sirocco Strike (7.20) to cross the wire a nose in front of Strong Wind.  Thus, after the smoke cleared from the Stewards' Inquiry, Sirocco Strike took the Place and got the Win, leaving us with a rather bad taste in our mouth, to go along with a ticket that would wind up with three out of four winners, and a net loss on our play of $43.00.

Oh well; onto the next race.

So when all was said and done, the correct Pick Four sequence at Del Mar Wednesday was  4 / 8 / 1 / 8 .  Those who played it were rewarded with a payout of $351.85 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
