8/4/13 SAR R7 - Horse Watch Follow-Up

We put Hurricane Jackie on our watch list in June based upon her performance while breaking her maiden at Belmont Park.  On Sunday, in Race 7 at Saratoga, Hurricane Jackie made her first start against winners.  The results were not good.

Hurricane Jackie (Final Odds 3.80) found herself caught up in an early speed duel, with fractions of 22.14 for the opening quarter and 46.06 for the half.  Unsurprisingly, the early pace collapsed; no horse who was in  the front five at the half mile mark finished better than sixth.  As for Hurricane Jackie, she was third at the half, just two lengths back of that blistering pace; she would finish last, over twenty-five lengths back of the winner, Funny Money (4.00).

We'll keep our eye on Hurricane Jackie for at least a couple more starts, to see if Trainer Todd Pletcher can teach this three year old filly to rate, and improve upon the ability that she showed back in June.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
