Gypsy Friday, a four year old filly that we've been following for a little over a year, made her third start off the layoff Friday evening at Del Mar. The event, a Maiden Special Weights restricted to state bred fillies and mares, was contested over eight furlongs of California grass; making it Gypsy Friday's first route of year, after having twice competed around just one turn.
Gypsy Friday (Final Odds 9.80) broke to the front early, and was ahead by over two lengths after six furlongs. According to the chart caller, Gypsy Friday fought back some in the stretch but weakened late, and wound up sixth, a little two and a half lengths behind the winner, Van Dien Avenue (4.00).
