9/28/13 Belmont Park All-Grade 1 Stakes Pick Four - Results

How close did we come to hitting the Pick Four at Belmont Park Saturday?  This close.

We anticipated chaos in two of the four legs of the All Grade 1 Stakes Pick Four; specifically, the first and last races.  And while chaos did come to pass in the final leg of the sequence - Race 10 (The Jockey Club Gold Cup) which was won by # 1 Ron the Greek (Final Odds 21.00), Race 7 (The Vosburgh) was decidedly un-chaotic; as the second choice on the board, # 8 Private Zone (3.60) showed that the early speed in his form was no mirage in the desert, as he led the field around the track and held on for the Win after doing The Bump with Place finisher # 2 Justin Phillip (2.70*) down the stretch.

So we got one big price out of the two races where we (effectively) punched the "ALL" button; now it was just a matter of getting the odds-on favorites home in the middle two legs.  And we did just that with ease in Race 8 (The Flower Bowl) as # 1A Laughing (0.60*) and entry mate # 1 Tannery (Ire) crossed the wire one-two.  But such was not the case in Race 9 (The Joe Hirsch Turf Classic) as # 7 Little Mike (7.40) returned to the form that won him last year's Breeder's Cup Turf Classic as he sat just off the pace, took the lead in the stretch, and held on for dear life, winning the head bob over # 2 Big Blue Kitten (0.90*) with # 2B Real Solution taking the Show one length back.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Those who played the correct winning Pick Four sequence of  8 / 1 / 7 / 1  were rewarded with a payout of $1810.25 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
