One of the chances you take when you play against the Favorite (either by leaving them off the ticket completely or by making them a "C" Selection) is that, if they turn out to be legitimate, they can make you look awfully foolish. So it was when Emmynency, the only Favorite in the sequence that we did not use as an "A" Selection, became the only Favorite in the sequence to Win (indeed, the only Favorite in the sequence to finish in the money), as she was in the right place at the right time when the rail opened up out of the turn and she burst through it, winning The Surfer Girl by over two and a half lengths. Of course, the point became moot as far as our play was concerned when first time starter Acceptance, who was nowhere to be found on our tickets, won the finale by as many as he pleased, after being bet down by the public from his Morning Line of 12-1.
Oh well; onto the next race.
