12/20/15 Los Alamitos Race Course Late Pick Four - Preview

Today's the closing day of the Los Al mini-meet, so this marks our final chance in 2015 to take another run at The Late Pick Four at Orange County's own Los Alamitos Race Course.

RACE 6 - MSW - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 10 Blue Navy Blue (ML 7-2)

B's

# 3 Basinca (ML 5-1)
# 4 Cupid (ML 9-2)
# 7 Legitimate (ML 5-1)

C's

# 9 Good for It (ML 6-1)
# 12 It's Just Bob (ML 20-1)

# 1 One More Orman (ML 8-1) has been scratched.

Blue Navy Blue was a well beaten second in his debut behind Drefong at Del Mar last month.  Blue Navy Blue is trained by John Sadler, whose chargers tend to move forward when making their second attempt to graduate.  Basinca disappointed as the Post Time Favorite in his second career start last time out, but could rebound back to his debut performance for Trainer Doug O'Neill.

Cupid is a first time starter sired by Tapit and trained by Bob Baffert.  Cupid was purchased for $900k as a yearling, so it's fair to say that his connections are expecting big things from him.  Still, it's worth considering that they've decided to debut Cupid here, rather than wait a week for the higher MSW purses at Santa Anita; especially since Santa Anita is where Cupid has been working out.

Legitimate was the Show horse behind Blue Navy Blue last time out.  Good for It adds the hood today, which may help him return to the form that he showed in his debut.  It's Just Bob is a first time starter sired by Big Drama, whose progeny tend to do well at first asking.

RACE 7 - Alw 25000s - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 My Secret Affair (ML 4-1)
# 7 Limited Response (ML 15-1)

B’s

# 3 No Contingency (ML 8-1)

C's

None

# 1 Athens (ML 3-1) and # 8 Bandido Too (ML 6-1) have been scratched.

Note for future reference that there are no lifetime Win restrictions on this contest.  This race is open to all runners which have started for a claiming price of $25k or less either this year or last, and have not since that race won a claiming, starter, or optional claiming race exceeding $25k.

My Secret Affair took a nice step forward last time out after getting some much needed class relief, missing by just a neck while running in a $25k open claimer.  Limited Response closed well two starts back to win a $25k claimer, and could get a similar pace set up today.  No Contingency is a front runner who has been doing well against cheaper stock and could be a danger if he gets loose on the lead.

RACE 8 - OC 62k/N$Y - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Just Kidding (ML 5-2)
# 2 Texas Two Step (ML 7-2)
# 6 Cyrus Alexander (ML 6-1)

B’s

# 5 Prime Issue (ML 9-2)
# 7 Alfa Bird (ML 4-1)

C's

None

Just Kidding took the Place at this approximate class level last time out, earning this field's best last out Beyer Speed Figure in the process.  Texas Two Step arrives from the East having shown himself to be competitive at this approximate class level.  Cyrus Alexander returns to action for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who does quite well when bringing runners back from an extended vacation.

Prime Issue, also trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, showed good early speed in his return to competition last time out, and should improve with the stretch out in distance.  Alpha Bird, another returning from an extended time on the bench, shows a nice, steady work pattern leading into this.  Note especially the stamina building back-to-back seven furlong works.

RACE 9 - (F) Md $20k - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 9 Mad Mango (ML 7-2)

B's

# 8 Daphne's Day (ML 9-2)

C's

# 7 Sarah Bell (ML 8-1)
# 10 Zeekid (ML 5-1)

# 2 Amitie Pour La Vie (ML 6-1) has been scratched.  # 11 Sailor's Cry (ML 15-1) does not draw in off the Also Eligible List; but # 12 Punk Fever (ML 30-1) will run.

Mad Mango goes first off the claim for Trainer Doug O'Neill, after having taken the Place at this class level last time out.  Daphne's Day, making her sixth career start, was the Show horse behind Mad Mango in that contest.

Sarah Bell took the Show at this class level last time out.  Zeekid was claimed last time out after having taken the Place at this class level; but the claim was voided, and Zeekid went on the shelf for about seven months.  Still, Zeekid has proven to be competitive at this class level, and Trainer Jorge Periban has had some success in bringing runners back from extended layoffs.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 10 with 6,7 with 1,2,6 with 9  $6.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 3,4,7,10 with 3,6,7 with 1,2,5,6,7 with 8,9 $60.00

Total: $78.00

Post Time for Race 6 is 5:58 EST / 2:58 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
