12/6/15 Los Alamitos Race Course Late Pick Four - Preview

No stakes on the card Sunday in SoCal, so an Optional Claimer will have to suffice as the featured race.  Still, what the card may lack in class it more than makes up for in competitiveness, as the quartet of races that we'll be examining all look as if they will be closely contested.  So with that, let's get ready to take a run at The Late Pick Four at Orange County's own Los Alamitos Race Course.

RACE 6 - (F) Clm $8k N2X - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Mudge (Morning Line 5-2)

B’s

# 1 Flyin for a Livin (ML 2-1)

C's

# 3 Summers Dignity (ML 4-1)
# 4 Hidden Reality (ML 3-1)

Mudge, two-for-two lifetime over this main track, took the Show at this class level last time out at Del Mar at today's distance.  Flyin for a Livin gets some much needed class relief.

Summer Dignity took the Place against more expensive stock the last time she routed on a fast dirt track.  Hidden Reality has finished in the Trifecta two of the three times in her career that she has competed on dirt.

RACE 7 - Clm $32k - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 4 Basmati (ML 8-5)

B’s

# 3 Juansagain (ML 5-1)
# 6 Guns Loaded (ML 3-1)

C's

None

# 7 Oh Daddy Oh (ML 15-1) has been scratched.

Basmati won at this level last time out, but his claim was voided due to unsoundness; so will he be healthy enough to win at this level again today?  Basmati has worked a couple of times since that win/voided claim; and while those works weren't all that sharp, his works prior to winning last time out weren't all that sharp either.  Without much more to go on, I'm going to presume that if the track vet lets him compete today, then that means that Basmati is healthy enough to win.

Juansagain has the best last out Beyer's Speed Figure in this field; but Juansagain had things pretty much all his own way in that one, and this will be a much tougher class test.  Guns Loaded took the Show behind Basmati last time out, and may improve with the turn back in distance.

RACE 8 - OC 40k/N$Y - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 5 J Serino (ML 5-1)
# 6 Grazen (ML 7-2)

B’s

# 2 Avanti Bello (ML 3-1)
# 9 Follow Me Crev (ML 6-1)

C's

# 3 Waymond Boyd (ML 20-1)
# 7 Dream Team (ML 5-1)

J Serino, going third off the layoff, is the possessor of this field's best last out Beyer's Speed Figure, earned at this approximate class level.  Grazen Sky took the Place at this approximate class level two starts back.  Avanti Bello has earned speed figures of late that fit well with the contends here; but this will be his first start this year in a race not restricted to California bred runners.  Follow Me Crev had a sharp workout over the Santa Anita main track on 11/23, which is a pretty good indicator that his turf form will carry over to dirt.

Waymond Boyd and Dream Team, both trained by Bob Baffert, are a little light in the speed figure department to be considered among the top contenders here; but when else are you going to get these kinds of odds on a pair of Baffert horses?

RACE 9 - Md $30k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 7 William Crotty (ML 3-1)
# 8 Afleet Domination (ML 5-2)

B's

# 3 Academic Affair (ML 3-1)
# 4 Dominic's Way (ML 6-1)

C's

# 6 Sunny Truce (ML 6-1)

William Crotty, running for the first time with a price tag on his head, looks to be the speed of the speed here, especially with the addition of blinkers.  Afleet Domination took the Show against more expensive last time out.

Academic Affair's sire and dam sire were both Grade One Stakes winners on the dirt; it therefore would not be a surprise to see Academic Affair improve moving from synthetic to dirt.  Dominic's Way showed good early speed in his debut two starts back.  Sunny Truce may improve with the stretch out to two turns.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 2 with 4 with 5,6 with 7,8 $4.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,2 with 3,4,6 with 2,5,6,9 with 3,4,7,8 $48.00
