4/2/17 Golden Gate Fields Golden Pick 6 - Preview

I don't know what the occasion is, but the final six on Sunday's card at Golden Gate seems to be quite classy, containing as it does a pair of pure Allowance contests as well as an Allowance Optional Claimer.  Quite a change from the level of competition that we're used to seeing on a Northern California card that doesn't contain an actual stakes.  Anyway, we'll be looking at all those contests below, as we take another run at The Golden Pick Six at the place where the Bay comes to play.

RACE 4 - (F) Clm $4k B - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Pulpit Hanna (Morning Line 9-5)

B's

# 1 One Putt Par (ML 3-1)
# 2 Sharp Cookie (ML 7-2)
# 4 Life No Parole (ML 8-1)
# 5 Hallie Jae (ML 9-2)
# 6 That's Your Story (ML 6-1)

C's

None

We saw these same conditions Saturday in Race 7, which was a contest for male sprinters.  Just to refresh, this contest is restricted to runners which have either:

1) Not won a race since February 1, 2017; OR
2) Which have never won four races.

So as long as a horse has fewer than four career Wins, she's eligible to run in this race.  If a horse has four career Wins or more, than none of those Wins could have come in the past two months (note that Claiming and Starter Races for $3.5k or less don't count when computing the Win totals).  For the record, One Putt Par and That's your Story are the only two runners in this field with fewer than four career Wins.

Pulpit Hanna won by daylight last time out against a similar level of competition (a lower claiming price, but no restrictions).  My concern with Pulpit Hanna is that last race was a sprint; today she returns to two turn racing.  And while Pulpit Hanna has shown proficiency both sprinting and routing, typically a runner will need a race at the longer distance before returning to their true talent level.

Today's situation is further complicated by the fact that this field does not contain any standouts apart from Pulpit Hanna; that is, the rest of the field outside of Pulpit Hanna looks to be very evenly matched.  So in my opinion, this is a race where the options are to either single Pulpit Hanna on our big ticket or go for the "ALL" button; and I've chosen to do the latter.

RACE 5 - MSW - Eight and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Pacific Surf (ML 6-5)

B's

None

C's

# 3 White Falcon (ML 8-1)
# 5 Pick One (2-1)

Pacific Surf missed graduation at this class level last time out by less than a length, with Pick One crossing under the wire a little over a length behind him in third.  White Falcon was in that contest as well, and was well beaten.  But White Falcon had a bit of a troubled trip in that race, and can be expected to improve on that effort today.

RACE 6 - ALW NC - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 4 Alert Bay (ML 8-5)

B's

# 2 G. G. Ryder (ML 3-1)

C's

# 1 Bronze Star (ML 7-2)
# 6 Many Roses (ML 4-1)

Alert Bay returns to action from a seven month vacation, and appears to have been working well for this contest.  Alert Bay has finished in the Exacta all five times that he has competed over this main track.

G. G. Ryder was victorious at this class level last time out.  Bronze Star and Many Roses project to be the early leaders; if either one gets loose early, they could be tough to catch.

RACE 7 - (F) MSW - Eight and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 4 Georgia Blue (ML 7-5)

B's

# 2 She's My First (ML 9-2)

C's

# 1 Andapinkcarnation (ML 6-1)
# 3 Hawk's Journey (ML 6-1)

# 6 Blushing Bug (ML 4-1)
# 7 Chapter Ten (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 5 Say Your Grace (ML 20-1)

Georgia Blue returns to distaff competition after taking the Show against the boys last time out.  The concern with Georgia Blue is that she has backed up in the stretch in each of her prior career starts.

She's My First has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of her last two starts.  Andapinkcarnation is a first time starter sired by Uncle Mo, whose progeny tend to do well at first asking.

Hawk's Journey is on the ticket because everyone else is.  Blushing Bug took the Place at this class level last time out.  Chapter Ten looks to be the one that they'll have to catch, especially with the addition of blinkers today.

RACE 8 - OC 40k/N1X - Eight Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 3 Perfect Come Back (ML 9-5)

B’s

None

C's

# 1 The Common Man (ML 10-1)
# 6 Mr Larson (ML 9-2)
# 7 Carville (ML 3-1)

Scratch # 5 Golden Doughnut (ML 12-1)

Perfect Come Back took the Place at this class level last time out, with Carville taking the Show well behind him.  The Common Man was a well beaten fourth in that contest; but The Common Man could move up today by being the speed on the rail.  Mr Larson ships in from downstate for Trainer Doug O'Neill, who has been doing well when moving his runners from dirt to the synthetic surface.

RACE 9 - ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 2 Sir Samson (ML 2-1)
# 7 Sir Vronski (ML 7-2)

B's

# 4 Mr Kerry Hara (ML 10-1)
# 5 Lovenseek (ML 9-2)
# 6 Paynes Prairie (ML 6-1)

C's

# 3 Hot Lightning (ML 6-1)

Sir Samson ships in from downstate, where he has been running well against classier competition.  Sir Vronski won clear against $25k Claimers last time out; and while this is a move up the class ladder, a repeat of that effort would probably land Sir Vronski in the Winner's Circle again today.

Lovenseek returns to action for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer after spending the past thirteen months on the bench.  Lovenseek has been working well for this contest.

Hot Lightning has run well in each of his last four starts over this main track.  Mr Kerry Hara took the Show at this class level last time out.  Paynes Prairie goes first time for the barn of Trainer Jonathan Wong, who tends to do well with such.

OK, that's the analysis.  While this is a jackpot wager, we won't be putting all our selections on one ticket.  While we still hold out hope that this could be the luckiest day of our lives, budgetary constraints must be respected.  I think it's also safe to presume that our "A" Selections won't form the basis of a unique ticket, so we should be safe in pressing those up.  So with all that, playing our tickets in Crist fashion, we get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P6: 3 with 4 with 4 with 4 with 3 with 2,7 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.20 P6: ALL with 4 with 2,4 with 2,4 with 3 with 2,4,5,6,7 $24.00

A's with One C

$0.20 P6: 3 with 3,5 with 4 with 4 with 3 with 2,7 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 3 with 4 with 1,6 with 4 with 3 with 2,7 $0.80
$0.20 P6: 3 with 4 with 4 with 1,3,6,7 with 3 with 2,7 $1.60
$0.20 P6: 3 with 4 with 4 with 4 with 1,6,7 with 2,7 $1.20
$0.20 P6: 3 with 4 with 4 with 4 with 3 with 3 $0.20

Total: $30.60

Post Time for Race 4 is 5:16 EDT / 2:16 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
