8/12/17 Santa Rosa Late Pick Four - Preview

Thoroughbred racing continues at The Sonoma County Fair at Santa Rosa Saturday, with The Joseph T Grace Handicap serving as the featured race.  I'll be taking a look at that contest below, as I take another run at Wine Country Racing's Late Pick Four at Santa Rosa.

RACE 7 - Md $25k - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 5 Cedar Rapids (ML 9-2)

B's

# 1 Girls and Guts (ML 15-1)
# 4 Mini Bar (ML 6-1)
# 6 The Ice Box Kid (ML 5-1)

C's

# 3 Day 'n Night (ML 7-2)

Scratch # 7 Six Cider (ML 8-5)

Cedar Rapids goes first time for the barn of Trainer Jonathan Wong, who tends to do well with such.  Girls and Guts took the Show the only prior time that he ran with a price tag on his head.  Mini Bar took the Show each of the last three times that he competed in a turf route.

The Ice Box Kid took the Place the last time that he competed around two turns on the grass for Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.  Day 'n Night, trained by Neil Drysdale, is a first time starter that shows a good turf pedigree; though the gaps in the published works are a concern.

RACE 8 - Clm $12.5k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 2 Hidden Zensation (ML 2-1)
# 5 Eddie and the King (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 3 Presidentsky (ML 4-1)
# 4 King Budrick (ML 9-2)
# 6 Drouillard (ML 5-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 1 Zorrito (ML 12-1)

Hidden Zensation wired the field against more expensive last time out, defeating a next out winner in the process.  The drop after a win could be a concern, but it could also be a sign that the connections would prefer not to pay the shipping costs as the circuit moves on to its next stop.

Eddie and the King, trained by Steve Sherman, looks ready to move up in class after defeating $10k claimers last time out.  Presidentsky goes first off the claim for Quinn Howey, and might appreciate the return to upstate California.  King Burdrick will have the hood off today; Trainer Jeff Bonde tends to do well with runners making that equipment change.  Drouillard is on the ticket because everyone else is.

RACE 9 - The Joseph T Grace $50k - Eight and a Half Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 7 G. G. Ryder (ML 5-2)
# 8 A Red Tie Day (ML 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 1 Squidward (ML 12-1)
# 6 Anythingscookin (ML 6-1)

G. G. Ryder defeated class competition on the synthetic surface at Gulfstream Park two starts back.  A Red Tie Day gets some much needed class relief, as well as a reduction in real estate.  Anythingscookin and Squidward filled out the Exacta in an OC $62.5k/N2X last time out, and could be the front running pair that the others will have to catch in order to win.

RACE 10 - Md $5k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 Bobby Magic (ML 4-5)
# 5 Magik Pepper (ML 9-5)

B's

None

C's

# 2 Mookie's Wish (ML 5-1)

Bobby Magic has taken the Place at this class level in each of his last two starts.  Magik Pepper, trained by Steve Sherman, has finished behind Bobby Magic in each of his last two starts; but Magik Pepper could improve with the rider switch.  Mookie's Wish took the Show against more expensive two starts back.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 5 with 2,5 with 7,8 with 1,5 $8.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 1,4,5,6 with ALL with 7,8 with 1,5 $40.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3 with 2,5 with 7,8 with 1,5 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 2,5 with 1,6 with 1,5 $4.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 2,5 with 7,8 with 2 $2.00

Total: $58.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 7:18 EDT / 4:18 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
