8/13/17 Santa Rosa Late Pick Four - Preview

Two year olds highlight Sunday's card at The Sonoma County Fair at Santa Rosa, with the $50k Jess Jackson Juvenile serving as the featured race.  I'll be looking at that contest below, but before I do I want to look ahead just a bit to next weekend.  Saturday, September 19 is Pacific Classic Day at Del Mar; so, good Lord willing, I'll be focusing my efforts next weekend on the southern California racetrack.  So with that let's return back to today's action, as I take another run at Wine Country Racing's Late Pick Four at Santa Rosa.

RACE 7 - Clm $12.5k N2X - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Weyand (Morning Line 3-1)
# 7 Private Marini (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 1 Tough Timber (ML 4-1)
# 3 Brave Julian (ML 20-1)
# 4 Tribal Again (ML 9-2)
# 8 Nevadan (ML 12-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 2 Wise Tale (ML 8-1) and # 5 Monsajem Accrete (ML 8-1)

Weyand took the Place at this class level last time out, and will be going second off the claim for Trainer Rene Asescua, who tends to do well with such.  Private Marini could be the speed of the speed in this field, and will be going first off the claim for Trainer Jonathan Wong, who has frequent success with such.

Tough Timber missed the Winner's Circle by less than a length at this class level last time out.  Brave Julian ships in from downstate; perhaps he'll appreciate the change of scenery.  Tribal Again could be the one running best late.  Nevadan is on the ticket because everyone else is.

RACE 8 - (F) Alw 4000s - Five Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 7 Matter of Luck (ML 5-2)

B’s

None

C's

# 2 Foreverinsummer (ML 7-2)
# 6 Shez a Griller (ML 8-1)
# 9 Croix Du Soleil (ML 3-1)

Scratch # 8 Panshir (ML 10-1)

Note for future reference that, unlike many Starter Allowances run in California, this event has no lifetime Win restrictions for entry.  So any filly or mare that has started for a claiming price of $4k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here.

Matter of Luck took the Place at this class level in front of a next out winner last time out.  Foreverinsummer fits well here on class; but Foreverinsummer may be better suited to longer distances.

Shez a Griller closed well sprinting on the turf course just ten days ago.  Croix Du Soleil goes first off the claim for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.

RACE 9 - The Jess Jackson Juvenile $50k - Six Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Artie B Good (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Walk On Water (ML 6-1)
# 4 Holy Yodeler (ML 10-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 3 Jacks Masterpiece (ML 2-1)

Artie B Good won by daylight in his debut last time out, and looks to be at least on par with many of those running here.  Walk On Water and Holy Yodeler are two that can contend, if they can rebound off their respective performance in the Everett Nevin and return to the form they displayed when graduating.

RACE 10 - (F) OC 25k/N1X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 2 Fiery Lady (ML 3-1)

B’s

# 3 Dreamy Gal (Ire) (ML 9-2)
# 4 The Incident (ML 12-1)
# 6 Hal's Buddy (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Fiery Lady was victorious at this approximate class level last time over the Golden Gate turf course.  Dreamy Gal (Ire) could improve with the return to grass, and should certainly be forwardly placed early.

The Incident's only prior grass experience was navigating the Santa Anita hill; perhaps she'll prefer the flats.  Hal's Buddy fits well here on class, though her time away from the Winner's Circle is a concern.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6,7 with 7 with 6 with 2 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: ALL with 7 with 1,4,6 with 2,3,4,6 $36.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6,7 with 2,6,9 with 6 with 2 $3.00

Total: $41.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 7:18 EDT / 4:18 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
