8/17/17 Del Mar Pick Four - Preview

As I mentioned last weekend, good Lord willing I'll be playing the Pacific Classic card at Del Mar on Saturday.  That being the plan, it seemed wise to get one in over the track, if you will, prior to that day.  So, with that as added incentive to go along with the usual motivation of having some fun, let's get to it, as I take a run at The Pick Four at The Place Where The Turf Meets The Surf.

RACE 5 - (F) [S] MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Callie Mesa (Morning Line 20-1)
# 7 Super Patriot (ML 3-1)
# 9 Star of Kobol (ML 6-1)

B's

# 3 Sweet Sophie Grace (ML 7-2)
# 8 My Claw (ML 9-2)

C's

None

Scratch # 5 It's About Alex (ML 8-1)

These are juvenile fillies; and, with the exception of My Claw, all are first time starters.  Since experience should count for something, My Claw is on the ticket.

Callie Mesa, Super Patriot, and Star of Kobol are trained by conditioners (Tim Yakteen. Bob Baffert, and Bob Hess, Jr., respectively) whose runners tend to do well at first asking.  Sweet Sophie Grace was sired by Curlin, whose progeny tend to do well when debuting.

RACE 6 - (F) [S] ALW N1X - Eight Furlongs Turf

A's

# 4 Sea Smoke (ML 5-2)
# 6 Lethal Legacy (ML 6-1)

B's

None

C's

# 2 Moonshine Annie (ML 3-1)
# 7 Jennyway U Want It (ML 10-1)

Scratch # 3 Easy Song (ML 5-1)

Sea Smoke, Lethal Legacy, and Moonshine Annie filled out the bottom seventy-five percent of the Superfecta at this class level over this turf course last time out.  Jennyway U Want It could be the one running best late.

RACE 7 - OC $62.5k/N2X - Six and a Half Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Avicii (ML 5-2)

B’s

# 2 Noted and Quoted (ML 9-5)

C's

# 3 Auntjenn (ML 6-1)
# 5 Fact of Life (ML 6-1)

Scratch # 8 Dis Smart Cat (ML 8-1)

Avicii was victorious at this class level three starts back, and finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of her two most recent contests.  Noted and Quoted gets some class relief while returning to one turn racing.  Auntjenn could move up with the return to the main track.  Fact of Life, trained by Bob Baffert, moves up in class after defeating OC $40k/N1X company by daylight last time out.

RACE 8 - Md $20k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Harrovian (ML 4-1)

B's

# 1 Marq One (ML 5-2)
# 2 Big Day Tomorrow (ML 10-1)
# 8 Sumday Sumday (ML 6-1)
# 9 Go Ghetto (ML 9-2)
# 11 Rick's Dream (ML 6-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 10 Alpha Uno (ML 30-1).  Bring in # 11 Rick's Dream (ML 6-1) off the Also Eligible List; but not # 12 Second Gear (ML 20-1), who gets to stay in the barn.

Harrovian gets some class relief here, and seems well suited to the distance.  Marq One took the Show against more expensive stock last time out, albeit on the turf.  Big Day Tomorrow could move up with the class drop.

Sumday Sumday missed graduation by less than a length at this class level last time out.  Go Ghetto could move up with the drop in class and the surface switch.  Rick's Dream has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his five career starts.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6,7,9 with 4,6 with 6 with 6 $6.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 3,6,7,8,9 with 4,6 with 2,6 with 1,2,6,8,9,11 $60.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6,7,9 with 2,7 with 6 with 6 $3.00
$0.50 P4: 6,7,9 with 4,6 with 3,5 with 6 $6.00

Total: $75.00

Post Time for Race 5 is 7:03 EDT / 4:03 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
