8/26/17 Golden Gate Fields Late Pick Four - Preview

Yes, Golden Gate Fields; not Ferndale.  After giving the matter careful consideration I decided that, despite the jackpot carryover (of which a not insignificant amount is my money) I will not be following the Gold Rush Pick Six to Ferndale / Humbolt County Fair.  Having looked at the card, I feel, for one, that I’d just rather not get involved with the quarter horse racing (which would be at least one leg of the sequence each day) at the fair; not because I think quarter horse races are lesser events, but rather because I know those are contests that I am not presently skilled at handicapping.

Another factor are the diminished fields (even by Northern California standards) that Ferndale offers; no doubt due to having to run concurrently with Golden Gate Fields.  So for the above reasons, I will be focusing on the contests over at Golden Gate Fields rather than at Ferndale; at least for this weekend.  So with all that let's get to it, as I take a run at at The Late Pick Four at The Bay's Best Bet.

RACE 6 - (F) [S] MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 5 She's an Eagle (Morning Line 2-1)

B's

None

C's

# 3 Perfect for Me (ML 3-1)
# 4 Well Spoken Lady (ML 20-1)
# 7 Pasz the Pepper (ML 10-1)
# 8 Evening Jazz (ML 12-1)

# 11 Amba (ML 20-1)

Scratch # 6 Lista Lucca and # 10 A Brides Song (ML 20-1)

These are juveniles, with She's an Eagle and # 1 Hot Honey Carol (ML 12-1) being the only two experienced runners in the field.  She's an Eagle missed graduation by just a head last time out at Sacramento; and while that contest was run over real dirt, Trainer Ed Moger tends to do well when moving his charges from dirt to the synthetic surface.

Perfect for Me has been working well for this event.  Well Spoken Lady and A Brides Song are both trained by Cliff DeLima, who is reasonably successful when sending out debut runners.

Pasz the Pepper has posted a couple of bullet works over this surface.  Evening Jazz has Indian Charlie as a grandsire; the progeny of Indian Charlie tended to do well as juveniles.  Amba was sired by Tribal Rule, whose descendants tend to do well at first asking.

RACE 7 - (F) Alw 40000s N2L - Eight Furlongs Turf

A’s

# 4 Flika (ML 4-1)

B’s

# 2 Namorita (ML 6-1)
# 5 Pequena Maty (ML 10-1)

# 7 Almost Carla (ML 5-2)

C's

# 6 Lady Chrome (ML 7-2)
# 8 Call Your Bluff (ML 12-1)

Note for future reference that this one is for horses which have not won two races in their career; but with one exemption, as runners get a pass by having one (and just one) win not considered, if one of their two career wins was for $16k or less.  For the record, # 4 Flika (ML 4-1) and # 8 Call Your Bluff (ML 12-1) are only two runners in this field to have made multiple trips to the Winner's Circle.

Flika enters this contest with a two race winning streak and seems to have learned how to rate.  Namorita has taken the Show at this class level in each of her last two contests; and while those two events were on the dirt, Namorita's breeding suggests that she'll do well with the move to the turf.

Pequena Maty graduated against non-claiming maidens last time out, albeit on the dirt.  Almost Carla graduated by open lengths last time out, and she has done well in her prior tries on this turf course.  Lady Chrome could improve with the return to the grass.  Call Your Bluff has finished in the Trifecta in each of her five career races around two turns.

RACE 8 - (F) ALW N1X - Six Furlongs Synthetic

A's

# 7 Whyugottabesomean (ML 5-2)

B's

# 1 Rebarules Again (ML 5-1)
# 6 Glamsquad (ML 6-1)
# 8 Propeppy (ML 6-1)

C's

# 5 Syndrome (ML 15-1)
# 9 Papaclem'smidnight (ML 4-1)

Scratch # 4 Tribal Headdress (ML 15-1)

Whyugottabesomean, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, steps up in class after wiring the field against $20k claimers at Santa Rosa last time out.  Rebarules Again took the Show at this class level two starts back, albeit on the dirt.

Glamsquad is another returning from an extended leave who has done well in the past over this main track.  Propeppy took the Show at this class level last time out.  Syndrome graduated by daylight over this main track last time out.  Papaclem'smidnight has proven to be competitive at this class level; but Papaclem'smidnight seems to settle for too many minor awards.

RACE 9 - MSW - Five and a Half Furlongs Synthetic

A’s

# 1 Sunset Dragunn (ML 2-1)
# 9 Uncle Hal (ML 6-1)

B's

# 2 Awhitesportscoat (ML 5-2)
# 8 Ice Cream Fame (ML 5-1)

C's

# 5 Out At Eight (ML 6-1)
# 6 Hawthorne Lane (ML 20-1)
# 7 Many Moods (ML 15-1)

Sunset Dragunn took the Place while disappointing as the Post Time Favorite last time out.  Uncle Hal has finished in the Trifecta at this class level in each of his three career starts.  Awhitesportscoat took the Show at this class level two starts back, and could improve with the turn back in distance.

Ice Cream Fame has taken the Show at this class level in two of his last three starts.  Out At Eight showed good early speed in his debut last time out, albeit against lesser company.  Hawthorne Lane is a first time starter sired by Oh Tanner, whose progeny have shown good ability in their debuts.  Many Moods showed good early speed in her debut last time.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 5 with 4 with 7 with 1,9 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: 5 with 2,4,5,7 with 1,6,7,8 with 1,2,8,9 $32.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 3,4,7,8,11 with 4 with 7 with 1,9 $5.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 6,8 with 7 with 1,9 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 4 with 5,9 with 1,9 $2.00
$0.50 P4: 5 with 4 with 7 with 5,6,7 $1.50

Total: $44.50

Post Time for Race 6 is 7:15 EDT / 4:15 PDT.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
