The California Fair Circuit makes its way to Sonoma County; but note that (correcting what I wrote last weekend) the Gold Rush Pick Six does not travel with it. Sonoma County / Santa Rosa has a standard two dollar Pick Six; not a twenty cent jackpot. So the $22,085 currently sitting in the pool will rest easy for the next three weeks, until racing moves onto Humbolt County / Ferndale.
So, with no jackpot to shoot for, and a Pick Six minimum wager that would destroy my budget, I'll be taking a semi-vacation this weekend and focusing my energies on The Late Pick Four. And, quite frankly, it's not a bad little Pick Four at that. Turf racing is back, as seventy-five percent of the final four races will be run on some California grass, including The Luther Burbank Handicap. So with all that let's get to it, as I take a run at Wine Country Racing's Late Pick Four at Santa Rosa.
RACE 7 - Clm $16k N2X - Eight and a Half furlongs Turf

Thirty Pepperonis won by daylight two starts back, the last time that he competed on the lawn. Thirty Pepperonis will also be going first off the claim for Trainer John Martin, who tends to do well with such.
Carville should move up with the return to turf. Call Saul and Urban Bourbon filled out the bottom two slots of the Trifecta last time out over the Gold Gate turf against slightly cheaper company. Undeniable U fits well here on class, but seems to settle for too many minor awards.
RACE 8 - Clm $6.25k N1Y - Six Furlongs Dirt

This contest is for three year olds and upward that have not won a race in 2017, excluding Maiden races, and Claiming, and Starter contests for $5k or less.
North Pacific took the Place against open (no conditions) $6.25k claimers last time out. Small Town Shuffle missed the Winner's Circle by just a nose last time out against $6.25k N2Y company, with Outlook taking the Show behind him.
Royal Alexei is expected to be a pace presence early, and could be tough to catch if he gets loose on the lead. Jet Seeker ships in from downstate, and may appreciate the change of scenery.

Lady Valeur (Ire) has demonstrated the ability to win at this level in the past, and is getting some serious class relief over her more recent starts. Elegant Bel and Central Heat are past winners of this event, in 2016 and 2015, respectively.
Laseen (Ire) fits well here on class, though she may need more distance to display her best. Charming Starlet appears to be in top form, and could be the one running best late.
RACE 10 - Md $25k - Five Furlongs Turf

Into Kings joins the barn of Trainer Jonathan Wong after taking the Show in each of his last two starts, both against classier competition downstate. River House, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, took the Place at this class level on the dirt last time out.
Tune to Win took the Place at this class level on the dirt last time out. Patience Ofa Saint fits well with the contenders here; but Patience Ofa Saint may need more distance to show her best. Cocktails At Six and Reno Johnny are a pair of first time starters whose breeding suggests that they should handle the turf well.
