12/23/17 Delta Downs Late Pick Four - Preview

What's this?  A Saturday with no thoroughbred racing in California?  Well, what to do?  Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park are running; but that's much too early in the day for my tastes.  Likewise the other daytime tracks.  So considering all my options, I decided to take my play Saturday to just outside Vinton, Louisiana.  So with that let's get to it, as I take a run at The Late Pick Four at Delta Downs.

RACE 7 - Clm $15k N3L - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 6 Q' Mark (Morning Line 6-1)

B’s

# 1 Colt Silver Bullet (ML 5-1)
# 2 Saved by Zero (ML 5-2)
# 3 Smart Prospector (ML 6-1)
# 4 Arlen's Prospect (ML 3-1)
# 7 Walking in Faith (ML 15-1)

C's

None

Scratch # 5 Go Gone Gone (ML 7-2)

Q' Mark, ambitiously placed last time out, drops back down to a more realistic class level.  Q'Mark's late running style should serve him well in this field, and the outside draw adds to the appeal.

Colt Silver Bullet should move up by getting off the lawn.  Saved by Zero took the Show at this class level last time out.  Smart Prospector may have needed that last race.  Arlen's Prospect may improve with the change of scenery.  Walking in Faith is on the ticket because everyone else is.

RACE 8 - OC 10k - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 8 Forerun (ML 1-1)

B’s

None

C's

# 3 Say Charlie (ML 6-1)
# 5 River Bobcat (ML 5-1)
# 9 It's Time to B (ML 8-1)

Scratch # 1 He's All Ours (ML 12-1) and # 11 Prince Isaac (ML 15-1).  Bring in # 1A Red Production (ML 12-1) off the Also Eligible List.  #1A Red Production will run as an uncoupled entry.

Note that entry in this contest without being eligible to be claimed is not based upon lifetime Wins; that's why there's no "N1X" or "N2L", etc. following the claiming price above.  Rather, this contest is written more as a Optional Claimer / Starter Allowance hybrid, as any runner that has started for a claiming price of $5k or less, either this year or last, is eligible to run here without fear of changing hands at the claiming box.  As near as I can tell, all runners in this field fit under the Starter Allowance condition, as it doesn't appear that any of these are running Saturday for a tag.

Forerun, trained by Tom Amoss, enters this contest with a three race winning streak, the most recent at a class level similar to today's event.  Say Charlie, a well beaten Place behind Forerun last time out, could be the one running best late.

River Bobcat finished in the Exacta under similar conditions in two of his last three starts.  It's Time to B may have needed that last race, and could improve going second off the layoff.

RACE 9 - (F) [S] ALW N3L - Seven Furlongs Dirt

A's

# 2 Kiss That Dude (ML 5-2)

B's

# 5 Sashimi Blaster (ML 8-5)

C's

None

Scratch # 6 My Gal Layla (ML 3-1)

Kiss That Dude returns to Delta Downs after a visit to the Fair Grounds turf course last time, and should improve upon that outing.  Sashimi Blaster took the Place at this class level last time out; but the cutback in distance Saturday may compromise Sashimi Blaster's late running style.  My Gal Layla may have needed that last one, and she could improve going second off the layoff.

RACE 10 - (F) Md $10k - Five Furlongs Dirt

A’s

# 1 D D's Delight (ML 5-2)
# 8 Andale Girl (ML 7-2)

B's

# 2 Carellie's Candy (ML 6-1)
# 4 Anydayoftheweek (ML 15-1)
# 7 Itsbouttime (ML 5-1)
# 9 Aprojectformike (ML 15-1)
# 10 Ginky Lou Winky (ML 9-2)

C's

None

Scratch the Also Eligibles, # 11 Tax Money (ML 7-2) and # 12 Tania's Song (ML 15-1)

D D's Delight missed graduation by just a neck at this class level last time out.  Andale Girl has been working reasonably well for her return from an extended layoff.

Carellie's Candy seems to prefer the turf; but if Carellie's Candy can bring her grass form to this track Saturday, then she can certainly win.  Anydayoftheweek could move up with the drop in class and change of scenery.

Itsbouttime could improve with the cutback in distance.  Aprojectformike is a first time starter for Trainer Alan Klanfer, who tends to do well with such.  Ginky Lou Winky took the Show at this class level last time out.

OK, that's the analysis.  Playing my tickets in modified Crist fashion, I get:

All A Entries

$1.00 P4: 6 with 8 with 2 with 1,8 $2.00

All A Entries with All B Entries

$0.50 P4: ALL with 8 with 2,5 with 1,2,4,7,8,9,10 $42.00

A's with One C

$0.50 P4: 6 with 3,5,9 with 2 with 1,8 $3.00

Total: $47.00

Post Time for Race 7 is 9:27 EST / 6:27 PST.  Good luck to all.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
