6/25/16 Santa Anita Late Pick Four - Results

Race 6 - # 7 Taman Guard (Final Odds 1.50*) - "B" Selection
Race 7 - # 2 Westfest (1.70) - "A" Selection
Race 8 - The Triple Bend - # 4 Lord Nelson (2.10) - "A" Selection
Race 9 - The Gold Cup at Santa Anita - # 7 Melatonin (1.80*) - "B" Selection

Few things will make a handicapper feel more foolish than using all eight runners in a leg of a multi-race wager just to see the 9-5 Favorite make his way to the Winner's Circle; which is what happened to us in The No Longer In Hollywood Gold Cup.  And while it was nice to beat the Post Time Favorite in half of the races in the sequence, it wasn't so nice that those two winners were just 8-5 and 2-1, respectively.  Our best shot at having a price on our ticket was with "B" Selection # 9 Curlin Road (22.80) taking the Place behind Westfest in Race 7 by just under three lengths.

For the record, here are the $0.50 Will Pays for the other four runners to which we were alive in the finale:

# 1 Bal a Bali (Brz) (9.50) - $119.95 Finish: 8th
# 2 Second Summer (5.60) - $84.65 Finish: 7th
# 3 Hard Aces (8.20) - $132.95 Finish: 3rd
# 4 Lieutenant Colonel (13.60) - $104.80 Finish: 6th

But that's what might have been.  What actually came to be was a correct Pick Four sequence of  7 / 2 / 4 / 7  which paid $50.05 for a fifty cent wager.  Since our investment was $87.00, we cash at a loss; and while that definitely beats not cashing at all, it certainly isn’t what we had in mind when we placed our wagers.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
