And so we reach the end of New Year's weekend, and our featured event today is fillies and mares charging down the hill. That's the Grade 2 Monrovia, and we'll be looking at it below as we take another run at The Late Pick Four at The Great Race Place.
RACE 6 - (F) MSW - Seven Furlongs Dirt

Rockantharos flashed good early speed while taking the Show in her debut at this class level last time out. Edgy Girl has finished in the Trifecta in each of her two career starts, and could improve with the turn back in distance.
Faithfully is a first time starter sired by Smart Strike and trained by Bob Baffert. The Baffert barn has been ice cold of late, but that can't last forever. Really a Gem showed good early speed in her debut last time out; but the concern is that runners for Trainer Cesar Dominguez don't often move forward when making their second attempt at graduating.
RACE 7 - The Monrovia (Grade 2) - Six and a Half Furlongs Downhill Turf

Ageless enters this contest having won three of her last four races, all against stakes competition. Shrinking Violet's form looks a lot better if you toss that last one where she ran out of gas; so perhaps the layoff is just what she needed.
Singing Kelly looked sharp in her only prior try charging down the hill, two starts back when she won The Unzip Me. The last time that she competed on some California grass Our Pure Creation took the Show behind Shrinking Violet in The Daisy Cutter. Our Pure Creation may not win today, but she stands an excellent chance of outrunning her odds.

Real Big Deal took the Show at this class level last time out, and should appreciate the turn back in distance. Apollo Ten gets some class relief from the open company that he's been facing.
Gutsy Ruler is three-for-six lifetime over this main track, and has finished in the Trifecta in each of his last three starts at this class level. Rolo Tamaci should improve with the turn back in distance.
Sundar Drums looked impressive graduating last time out in his fifth attempt. It seems like whenever Lambo Luxx hits a peak effort on dirt, Trainer Jack Carava moves him to the turf. Not sure what that is all about; but Lambo Luxx should improve with the switch back to the main track.
RACE 9 - Clm $50k - Eight Furlongs Turf

Yes Yes Yes took the Place against more expensive stock two starts back, over this turf course at today's distance. Hobbits Hero missed victory by less than a length against classier foes in his most recent contest. Husband's Folly settles for a great many minor awards; but he can certainly win at this class level.
Image of Joplin should improve with the turn back in distance. Image of Joplin may also find himself loose on an early lead. Lovenseek won at this class level two starts back, and should also be forwardly placed. Tattenham returns to the claiming ranks after being outclassed on the OC 60k/N2X level last time out.
