1/4/15 Santa Anita Pick Five - Results

Race 1 - # 2 McKenzies Way (Final Odds 7.20) - "C" Selection
Race 2 - # 1 Logan's Moon (2.00*) - "C" Selection
Race 3 - # 1 Suva Harbor (3.70) - No Selection
Race 4 - # 7 Metaboss (0.80*) - "A" Selection
Race 5 - # 6 Kill Shot (0.90*) - "A" Selection

We tried too hard to beat a couple of Favorites that proved to be legit.  We used Logan's Moon as a backup rather than as an "A", and he was an easy winner.  Likewise with Kill Shot; for while we did use Kill Shot as an "A", we also used four other runners in that leg (one other "A" and three backups); and while the final margin was of victory in Race 5 was close, that was primarily a function of pace, as Kill Shot was indeed much the best.

So failing to respect a pair of legitimate Favorites doomed our play; but, to be honest, even if we had honed in on the eventual winners in those two legs, there's a good chance that I still would not have placed the winner of Race 3, Suva Harbor, on our tickets.  For one thing, I had preferred the chances of # 3 Miss Mandate (4.60), the eventual Place finisher, over that of Suva Harbor.  In addition, I probably would have been more inclined to use the "other" Hollendorfer, # 5 Taparri (17.00), liking as I would the odds on Taparri over Suva Harbor, especially in light of the fact that Taparri had won her only prior start on a fast dirt track.  So even had we played the other legs correctly, Suva Harbor's victory probably would have sunk our tickets anyway.

Oh well; onto the next race.

Meanwhile, those who had the correct Pick Five sequence of  2 / 1 / 1 / 7 / 6  were rewarded with a payout of $710.15 for their fifty cent wager.  May God bless them as they spend their winnings.

Peace and Love,

Jimbo
