7/24/16 Del Mar Pick Four - Preview

Alert Bay and Poshdky have their rematch in the eleventh running of The California Dreamin', Sunday's featured race at Del Mar.  We'll be taking a look at that contest below as we take another run at the Pick Four at The Place Where The Turf Meets The Surf.

RACE 7 - Clm $32k - Eight Furlongs Dirt

Dream Team (trained by Bob Baffert) and Alex Rossi (Arg) (trained by Doug O'Neill) are both dropping out of the Optional Claiming ranks (where they have been competitive) into this contest.  Dream Team appears to be the superior runner, but Alex Rossi could steal it on the front end.  Fly Lexis Fly, also trained by O'Neill, took the Place at this class level last time out.

Poshky and Alert Bay meet again after hitting the wire just a neck apart last time out in The Crystal Water, with Poshky getting the edge that day.  It would not surprise me to see a similar result today.  Soi Phet and Avanti Bello both ran well at this level on the main track at Santa Anita recently; runners making the dirt-to-turf surface switch don't seem to be encountering many difficulties this meet.

Boozer was over a half-dozen lengths behind Alert Bay and Poshsky at the wire in The Crystal Water; but Boozer has enjoyed success over this turf course, so perhaps he improves with the change of venue.  Patriots Rule could be the one running best late.

These are juveniles; and Dangerfield, making his second career start, is the only experienced runner in the field.  Farley was sired by Distorted Humor, whose offspring tend to do well at first asking.  Orejas had a sharp gate work over this main track on the 18th.

As already mentioned, Dangerfield is making his second career start; runners for Trainer Doug O'Neil frequently move forward with one try under their belt.  Term of Art, like Dangerfield and Farley, is trained by Doug O'Neill; perhaps Term of Art will outshine his stablemates today.  Surf Shack was sired by Malibu Moon, whose progeny tend to do well at first asking.

Tribal Tribute defeated more expensive last time out.  Image of Joplin was a winner the last time that he dropped in for a tag.  Professor Berns drops in for a tag for the first time since graduating over this turf course last Fall.

Macro Access (Arg) moves up in class after winning for fun against cheaper in each of his last two races.  Macro Access also goes first off the claim for Trainer Jeff Bonde, who tends to do well with such.

Street Moxie goes first off the claim for Trainer Hector Palma, who frequently wins with such.  Yes Yes Yes gets some much needed class relief.  Zinvor won for fun in his only prior try over this turf course.
